for the psp profile we will have to decide : 1 or many different profiles ??
meaning xvid or x264 for video codec?
it depends of the firmware of the psp
btw in cas of the psp profile..resize/crop/fps will be automatic (in firmware 2.6 psp can handle 24fps, not only 30fps...but not 25fps...argggg)

@damrod
There will be 1 profile for PSP where you can choose xvid or x264. Also, the profile is free to set filtering (GUI), then the user is free to change them.

I added RMVB, ASF, WMV as supported input.
That's a very nice feature :) ... Aspacially RMVB input is highly apraciated :)
As for the downloads ... Hope u do not mind these increase?

I'm working on a "Profile" thing:
http://img371.imageshack.us/img371/8798/profil4sk.th.jpg (http://img371.imageshack.us/my.php?image=profil4sk.jpg)
So it will be more user friendly and more effective. When you select a profil, codecs that can be used with it will be removed, same for containers. Filtering will be set too.
and the GP2x ? :D

If i manage to this today I will see how h264 lib works under linux... it's a beta but I just found that avidemux (a linux program similliar to Virtualdub) can use experimentaly x264 .... Though they writed on forum that the results are worst then xvid :(

Sounds like misconfiguration (in /etc/fstab, or there was a kernel update and you don't have the correct IDE drivers anymore), or perhaps a hardware failure.

What are you actually looking for? How to use x264 in Linux, an encoding GUI or an editor? Personally I just use mencoder, which supports transcoding from almost any source to H.264 through newest self-built x264. I use it through scripts and command line, but there are some frontends (http://www.mplayerhq.hu/homepage/design7/projects.html) (GUIs) that run on Linux and may even support x264 options, although I haven't tried them. Also Handbrake (http://handbrake.m0k.org/) may be useful.
Avidemux looks promising, but I've never tried it? What problems did you have?

Sirber, it appears that the reason why it did not show the info for the mkv file is because it had chinese characters in it. Is it possible to have unicode or some kind of other language support for it (of course, once I change the name of the file to English it worked fine)?

2 pass h264 not working quite well.. Devs of avidemux say the full support will be in next realese 2.2 ......
I also had some problems with compilation of avidemux , but that's another story ;)
What I'm looking for? Basicly I wanted sth to encode rmvb ... as this is a format most my media are, and I used it in windows.
Unfortunately realproducer for linux can encode only from uncompressed files :( This seriously sucks.
As for mencoder .. I used it (with a GUI as I prefer using gui then cli) It was called gmencoder ... It was a very good software, but unfortunately with old codecks.
Is h264 a feature in newest mencoder? Do u have to compile it from source to have h264 enabled or is a pre-made distro package also good?

Yes, most of the frontends probably lack the most recent stuff that is available in MPlayer CVS. They also don't include x264 since it is external to the MPlayer source code tree and therefore not available in most Mencoder binary packages.
Is h264 a feature in newest mencoder? Do u have to compile it from source to have h264 enabled or is a pre-made distro package also good?
Mencoder has had x264 support at least since 2004, but you'll probably need to compile it yourself. That is not hard once you know what to do. Learning this stuff will open a lot of new possibilities, so IMO it is time well spent. Perhaps some binaries include x264 support too, so you could try them first. Run "mencoder -ovc help" in a terminal and see if the list of codecs includes x264.

So are you trying to encode TO rmvb or FROM rmvb to H.264?
Yes ...
Well I downloaded mencoder from marillat debian repo ... and it works with x264 :P
mencoder -ovc x264 -x264encopts bitrate=300 /home/valgaav/Anime/Midorinohibi/midori12.avi -o /home/valgaav/test.avi -oac mp3lame -lameopts mode=3 vbr=0:br=32
Am i doing this command in a good way?
Still I'm a lazy guy and would prefer a gui ... but none of them has h264 option just as u said.
As for compilation I know how to do it, I had compiled several programs, yet it takes time so I prefer to use packages whenever I can

RealAnime 4 PowerPack 4.0.0 RC3:
Playing RealAnime encoded *.mkv files in Media Player Classic while utilizing the "audio delay" function within MPC to find out how much delay is inherent within the files, I can tell that it is about 130ms. Configuring RealAnime to encode with a delay of -130ms results in properly synchronized matroska files. However, this is not the case with *.mp4 files, as files encoded into this container format need only a -40ms to correct the delay, and sych-errors are much harder to notice in uncorrected files (when compared to its matroska counterparts). How exactly does RealAnimes's delay function work? And, aren't all container formats supposed to respond identically to a single delay-value within RealAnime?
All of the above are specific only to AAC+ v2 encoding.
How low is "very very low"? (i.e- when exactly to use low bitrate matrix?)
Bug: Minimizing RealAnime and then re-opening through start-menu shortcut leads to the message "RealAnime is already running" and Real-Anime's tabs to cease functioning. Minimizing RealAnime and then re-opening from the system-tray restores the tab functionality.
Some suggestions: An option to disable audio normalization. A feature to edit and disable "Clip Text" (Currently it is "Encoded with : RealAnime 4 PowerPack 4.0.0 RC3"). It would be nice having RealAnime free from typographical, grammatical and other textual errors; do you welcome these kind of suggestions/corrections?
Although it is advised to switch off all post-processing, noise etc. in the decoder before encoding, I got better results encoding into "x264, no filtering, bitrate190" from an "xvid, bitrate386" source while having ffdshow's postprocessing switched on to "full, mplayer, accurate deblocking". However, this might be due to the source and encode being of low bitrate.

All of the above are specific only to AAC+ v2 encoding.I think the delay is a container issue. Maybe if I add the flag "--audio-is-sbr" to matroska it would help. The delay is not noticable with most source. If you find it too "delayed", you can use the MKV gui to remerge it with a delay. No need of recoding :)
How low is "very very low"? (i.e- when exactly to use low bitrate matrix?)I'd say bellow 200kbps for 640x480@24 fps. I never used it since it's incompatible with most decoders.
Bug: Minimizing RealAnime and then re-opening through start-menu shortcut leads to the message "RealAnime is already running" and Real-Anime's tabs to cease functioning. Minimizing RealAnime and then re-opening from the system-tray restores the tab functionality.Yeah, RealAnime thinks it's still "minimised".
Some suggestions: An option to disable audio normalization. A feature to edit and disable "Clip Text" (Currently it is "Encoded with : RealAnime 4 PowerPack 4.0.0 RC3").Ok to the first one, not sure for the second.

so, is it recommended to have postprocessing switched on to "full, mplayer, accurate deblocking" for all sources, or which ones?

And my small wish list :D :
1. Nothing to do (exit program or turn of pc) if error occurred.
2. Add a Hibernate in to do list.
3. Show dialog after encoding (for example: "Do you want to turn off pc (or hibernate)?" buttons "Yes"/"No" and timer for 10 seconds).

what Trellis option does RA use, when it is checked in advanced tab?
--trellis 1
or --trellis 2 ?
if the answer is 1, does mean that if a select Medium or High Preset, it will use just --trellis 1 with both ones, no?
can u post the profiles' code of current RC3?
// Presets

1: // Med
2: // High

I prefer not so use filtering (aka ffdshow) unless the source is really bad.
About the profiles, best get a SVN client and look in the code directly. Half of the settings aren't in the "quality profiles" and are general.
Xvid and AVC in the same MKV :D Nice! :D
