@jdobbs, I've followed with great interest the products and software you have developed. Own DVDRB and am using BDRB for blue rays now.
Seems while following the threads everyone is changing settings, upgrading ffdshow, Matroska, AVISYNTH, x264 etc and having problems. I am certainly no exception, I use other software which often automatically upgrades ffdshow and Matroska to the latest. Moving back to BDRB, I often forget to downgrade back to the original, or even realize it's been changed.
Is there a way to a) check the version of the 3rd party software and alert the user to either downgrade or proceed at their own risk. b) set up ffdshow to the appropriate settings before starting the encode (this one seems to be a common error). I know this might seem like nagging the user, but it could shorten the Bug Reports section considerably.
Or automatically download and install the correct versions which work with BDRB overwritting the current version - although this probably isn't a great practice, again give the user warning first.
I think Zoom Player has a function buried somewhere in the settings which allows the user to upgrade various 3rd party software, one at a time to the most recent. It's like a pick list for upgrading components.
Anyway, great products and work.

hello jdobbs et al,
as i was/am a big fan and contributor of dvd rebuilder since its starting days i'd like to suggest some innovations ...
so here are some post xmas wishes for bdrb :
0. allow the use of CUDA compatible graphic cards for re-encoding ---- that is the most important one, should speed up the re-encode process by the factor 10-30 !!!
1. remove extras and/or trailers (especially forced ones at the beginning b4 seeing the main menu the very 1st time !!!) and/or any warnings and jump to the start either of the main flick or the main menu ---- quite important to me ;)
2a. remove main menu but keep pop up menu (if any) ---- this additional choice would be great
2b. remove pop up menu but keep main menu ---- that additional choice would be great either
3. disable selection of the removed audio/subtitle track selections in main, menu/pop up, on the remote ---- if possible another great one ;)
4. keeping the main movie only should keep - the main menu and the pop up menu as well as the chapter markers (animated menu items become high compressed or still images by choice)
5. always create a ps3/avchd compatible structure - except if that causes problems with any stand alone players
i too would suggest a lite (free) and (reasonably priced) pro version splitting - if the pro version includes some advantages and if the fee would help to speed up the developing process ;) ...
all the best for 2010 you all and keep on your good work
cheers - ahab666

What I would like to see is a dynamic Compression/Quality Percentage preview based on the language tracks kept/removed. It's hard to tell before the fact, especially music titles with chunky LPCM sound tracks.

...dont know if someone already mentioned this one:
...1) estimate time to encode (overall) by average fps. there is an ETA for the current track...but not for the whole disc
...2) save config presets/profiles...so i can create my own settings for quick and for quality encoding
...overall i luv ure tool ;)

After checking yet another Blu-ray and continuing to find that every single Blu-ray out there is lowpassed, I was thinking it might make sense for BD-5 backups to downscale to 720p. Since there's almost never any detail that's actually lost by doing so, it might compress significantly better at such low bitrates.

Well, I may be using BDR differently than most here. I build movies to .m2ts files with AVC video and DD 640 audio for streaming to my PS3.
So where BDR really helps me is in greatly simplifying the conversion from VC-1 and the lossless audio codecs that the PS3 can't stream. I try to keep the best video quality possible, so currently I have to micromanage the custom output size, setting it to 50GB for AVC BDs (so no video re-encoding happens), and then using trial and error to find the maximum size setting that will force a reencode for VC-1 BDs.
So really what I'm saying is that an output option of forced AVC video with unlimited size would be a godsend.

FORCE_ENCODE=1
I'd also recommend you use:
FIXED_CRF=15
and select "One Pass (CRF) Encoding"
That way you will be assured very high quality -- and it will always reencode.

oh really? i never came across a disc that has a PCM 5.1 as it's main track so i wouldn't know if BD-RB would actually do it and convert the PCM track to DD or DTS.

Have the option check box during first install not have a check in the cce field. Make the user choose not un choose cce support. I know this would have saved me a lot of hassle and I am sure a little less hate by some of the support questions I asked :(

I discovered one other item that would be very helpful to me--the ability to optionally "burn" hard subtitles directly into the converted video. My media server doesn't have the horsepower to transcode on the fly, so burned subs are probably my only option for streaming.
I came across SupTitle, an AVISynth plugin that will perform this feature. Could this be optionally called by BD-Rebuilder during conversion?

http://www.zachsaw.co.cc/?pg=suptitle_pgs_avisynth_plugin I can decode the subtitles to a bitmap easily enough, I've already written code for that. I'll have to look at AVISYNTH and see how I can overlay them onto the picture.

Been away for a while so kinda lost track
Id love to be able to choose where the working and output files are created seperatly instead of being combined in the working path
A TMP for the temporary stuff
and a finished output folder.
The reason is I would like these to be on separate disks
Thanks :thanks:

Partly because I have a drive for use with large constantly changing temporary files like the workfiles folder to save constant rewrites to the main drive to try and limit fragmentation and although its ok for a single disc its no good for batch processing because theres not enough room for more than one.

Hey Jdobbs. Been using your wonderful piece of software for a while now and so far everything has been running smoothly on my system. Just wanted to give my thanks for saving me a bundle in being able to buy single layer discs instead of the incredibly expensive double layer discs for my backups. Just one question though, what's changed since the latest beta. I saw a new version in the bug reports thread but no post about what's changed.
Anyway keep up the good work and i look forward to seeing this application out of beta. 0 issues have occured here so far :)
** edit ** nvm about the changes post. Saw a changes.txt file in the bd-rb dir ;)

The following 3 features would help to make life easier:
1. BD/AVCHD Rebuilder
Any chance to make BD Rebuilder accept and rebuild AVCHD?
Ok, I know, it's BD Rebuilder. Well, but I would also need to rebuild AVCHD. Isn't AVCHD asubset of BD?
Why? My Sony Camcorder produces an AVCHD (up to 16 GB with many .MTS - one for each recorded scene) which I would like to rebuild to DVD9 or DVD5.
2. BD/AVCHD 2 DVD Rebuilder
Any chance to add an option to rebuild to DVD structure and to transcode to DVD compliant mpeg2?
Why? To make a quick, 1-click 'VIDEO_TS' copy (including chapters and subtitles) for my not-HD-ready netbook.
Maybe some synergy with DVD-RB for the output section?
3. Custom target size option for DVD Rebuilder (Pro v1.28.2)
Quote of BD Rebuilder Beta's rule 7:
"If you decide to write to dual layer DVDs (BD-9/DVD-9), use ONLY HIGH QUALITY DUAL LAYER DISCS. I have found numerous cases where the same image works flawlessly with a quality (e.g. Verbatim) disc and fails (hangs) on a cheap one."
Even Verbatim does not guarantee success any longer!? Systematic testing with my current 50 Verbatim DL pack tought me, that I should not fill the DVD9 more than 7366 MiB, which is ~90.36% of the full 8152 MiB (1.885.696 LB sectors KiB).
So, I would need an option "Custom target size" in DVD-RB Pro as there is in BD Rebuilder Beta.
Any chance?

Any chance?1. I'll look at it. Unfortunately I don't have any examples to work with. Any chance you could create a small ISO from your camera that I could use?
2. That would be a lot more work than I really want to get into. I'd have to transport the entire authoring engine for DVD into BD Rebuilder.
3. DVD Rebuilder Pro has several custom target sizes that are added via the INI. They are based on 2048 byte sectors that are adjusted for overhead:
DVD-5/9 general sizing
TargetSectors=
DLTargetSectors=
The default values are TargetSectors=2236400 and DLTargetSectors=4050000 -- you can use this as a baseline for sizing based upon what you get with the defaults.
Therea are also settings for specific encoders that will override the general setting, like:
HCTargetSectors=
HCDLTargetSectors=
CCETargetSectors=
CCEDLTargetSectors=

I will provide a copy of the AVCHD folder after recording some short scenes with the camera. There is no ISO at that stage in the workflow.

What would be a simple, quick & dirty workaround?
>> 3. DVD Rebuilder Pro has several custom target sizes that are added via the INI. They are based on 2048 byte sectors that are adjusted for overhead... <<
There were none of these lines in my REBUILDER.INI.
Now, I added a line
DLTargetSectors=3771000
in C:\Program Files\DVD-RB PRO\REBUILDER.INI,
which should yield the layer break below 1.885.696 sectors (of 2048 bytes) at a 50%/50% ratio for L0 and L1.

My answer to your question has nothing to do with multiAVCHD (nor ISO images for that matter).
I advised that your use a tool to rename 8.3 AVCHD for SDHC/USB structure to [long-name] AVCHD for DVD/BD structure.
1) Copy your original AVCHD folder to a temp location
2) Download AVCHD Manager
3) Copy it into the same folder which has your AVCHD folder
4) Start AVCHD Manager
5) Select your AVCHD folder and click AVCHDme-undo
OR rename all files in Windows Explorer yourself.
then load BDMV folder into BD-Rebuilder.
BD-Rebuilder needs BDMV folder and all files compliant to long-name standard.... Make sure you have all .BDM -> .bdmv (MOVIEOBJ.BDM->MovieObject.bdmv), .CPI -> .clpi, .MTS -> .m2ts and .MPL -> .mpls.
It is as simple as that.

But, why should BD-RB not accept the AVCHD as it is?
2. I used my camcorder AVCHD to resume using multiAVCHD after a fairly long pause. At first sight, a lot has changed, chapters for example. Therefore, I will need some additional learning in your forum.

First of all thanks jdobbs for an absolutely brilliant piece of software. My apologies if this has been requested before. Searched and could not find a reference.
My question/request involves the above title hidden option paramater that as of now is only enabled for BD25. Are there plans to enable it for BD5/BD9, or is this not possible?
Reason I ask is that I like to use Full Disc mode with BD9 after blanking warnings, trailers and some useless "special features" with multiAVCHD (and await these features for BDrebuilder).
Like others I have had problems with certain menus when they are re-encoded. If I could use MIN_M2TS_SIZE on BD9 that would be great.
If I'm mistaken or am doing something wrong, please let me know. Thanks again and keep up the great work!
PS. Anyone who quotes Ferret Face is OK in my book!

Well, I ran into something, thought I would post it here to get any feedback. I have Win 7 Ult x64, been doing alot of discs with no problem. Then recently, I noticed when I mounted the iso's (to qual before burning) that I had no sound. Following the tip that some other program might have grabbed some file rights, I un-installed (rebooted) and re-installed all BDRB pgms. After that, things worked great. So the feature that seems wld be great is for BDRB to double check the file extensions it needs to work with (as well as the pgms it uses to work) to make sure they are all aligned with the pgms that they need to be to ensure correct result in BDRB. If that wld be too much work, how can I check myself to make sure before I run BDRB? I mean, I do check all my BDRB settings before each time backing up, but it looks like I need to check associated file ext also, especially after installing or updating any kind of media pgm.
As I said, any advice on this wld be welcome.

Jdobbs,
Is there a chance to add 256 or 384 kbps to the AC3 re-encoding? I'm looking at making DVD-5 backups of my HD-DVD movies, and would like to use the following specs (which I've used withanother prog, but I like the results of your encoder settings better.) 1280X720 23.976fps, 5.1 256kbps AC3, Movie only. Dropping the audio allows more headroom for the video, which is more important to me on a small dvd-5 backup.
Thanks for the great program!

For a 2 hours movie on a DVD5 the bitrate increase for the video at the expense of the audio isn't too exciting: about 1.5% (per audio track) when reducing from 448 to 384, and 4.5% when reducing 448 to 256. The loss in audio quality is probably more critical than the gain in video quality, I would say.

First of all thank you for your hard work and great piece of software you've created!
Just one simple request if possible. I've come across some situations when keeping the lossless audio track from the original blu-ray into a BD9 would not hurt the video bitrate (small movies for example) and it would be nice if you could made available the option to keep HD audio in the process of making bd9's. Thanks in advance.
Cheers

Hi jdobbs,
Can you add the option to allow the use of the x64 bit version of x264 r1471 (NAL-HRD v1.32 patched) in a similar way that Ripbot264 allows you to use the x64 bit version?
As I do see a up to 10% speed increase during encoding when using the x64 bit version.
:thanks:

:thanks: It don't think it works with AVISYNTH, but I'll try it.

There's avisynth64 (http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?t=152800) being worked on, the few filters BDRB uses are available. Also if you don't resize or deinterlace you can feed the m2ts into x264 directly and get another 5-10% speed increase without depending on haali, avisynth, directshow.
