View Full Version : BD-Rebuilder, Feature Requests

So, i learned now a little bit more on forced subtitles.
Great would be if BD Rebuilder extracts ONLY the forced subtitles of a subtitle track. (e.g. Pavtube Blu-Ray ripper has such a feature, but makes not as good conversions as Elgato).
Then in Elgato i can select these subtitles and then its hardcoded.
@jdobbs would this be possible? Thx! Individual subtitles (not a complete stream) are "forced". In other words, you may have a complete stream of "English" subtitles that reflect all spoken words -- but only a few (for example when a different language is spoken) might be "forced".
Subtitles are so small that they virtually no impact on the output quality -- why even bother worrying about it? Just keep all subtitles all the time (that's what I do).
Of course, now that I think about it, sometimes European titles can have a huge number of subs... I guess just having to select from that list during playback might be a factor. I'll take a look at it. Unfortuantely it would mean I have to scan the entire set of subtitle streams to see if any are "forced".

The "problem" is that when i select the subtitles in Elgato Turbo.264 then all subtitles (Extracted from BD Rebuilder) are visible all the time in the Video.
When BD Rebuilder extracts only the forced (Option), then only the forced would be visible.

Yes, maybe if "Forced" option is enabled to scan before are there any forced ones and afterwards to extract them. I don't know if it is possible to do it "on the fly".
Also i don't know how Pavtube Blu-Ray Ripper is doing it.
I select the stream and then there is no visible scan for forced subs, encoding starts from the beginning (to e.g. AppleTV Format).

Here's my workflow for forced subs:
Rip to HD with AnyDVDHD.
BDRB Movie Only with 1 English Soundrack and all English Subs.
Use BDSub2Sup to examine the subs in the BDRB workfiles folder. It will report if there are forced subs in each sub track. If there are none, that just makes it easier. (You can skip the rest and just use the built in function in BDRB to output for a different device. Since there aren't any forced subs you don't need to mess with them.)
Use RipBot264 and load the single .mt2s file created by BDRB. I adjust settings to 2 pass encoding with 1024 bitrate, no cropping, and resize to whatever I need. (Usually this is for my iPad so I do 1024xwhatever is needed for the aspect ratio of the movie. RipBot264 will Demux the mt2s and then let you pick which sub/audio streams to put back in your movie. (If you didn't check the subs out in the BDRB/Workfiles folder you can do that now with BDsub2sup. They are in the Temp/Work/YourMovie folder that RipBot created) In the subtitle selection in Ripbot I just pick the stream that has the forced subs and then make sure it is only going to display the forced ones. You can also use the preview function and see the subtitles as they will end up. If all looks good, I add it to the queue and then start the reencode. RipBot is definitely slower than BDRB, but you will eventually end up with a good looking/sounding movie that displays the forced subs and plays on your device.
It's worked for me so far on all the movies I've tried (Avatar extended collectors, Taken, Tourist, Da Vinci Code, Angels and Demons to mention a few).

Thanks, I'll try.
Nevertheless if BD Rebuilder extracts only the forced ones, it would be much easier (at least for me ;) )

Till now i check with HdBrStreamExtractor and SupRip if there are forced ones.
If then i would convert it with pavtube blu ray ripper (option only forced subtitles checked), maybe before extract main movie with BDRebuilder (didn't have enough time if Pavtube markes the Main movie exactly) , finished.
If not, extract main movie with BDRebuilder, convert with Elgato H.264, finished.

The latest "game" studios are playing with released BDs is to have disguised, bogus and multiple playlists in order to confound backing up a title in movie only mode. It can be tricky to identify which playlist is the correct one. Sometimes these multiple playlists are legitimate (dynamic branching of different language titles, etc. in films - Disney does this a bit). At other times, it is just intended to convince a program or person to process an incorrect playlist. As an example . . the animated feature "Anastasia" has 4 playlists that look alike (same length, # of chapters, etc.). BDRB defaults to the lowest numbered one. How can we be certain that is the one we want? Is there a way to reliably determine which playlist is being run by the main menu on the disc, so we can be sure to pick the right one when backing it up or converting it? Is there a player program that will handle the menus and show which playlist has been selected and is running?

Some of them (like "Source Code") have a ridiculous number of choices -- and most are goofy (with repeated scenes). There's no easy way to tell which is the "real" feature.

If you are using AnyDVDHD to decrypt the movie it will tell you the valid playlists (it works fine for Source Code).

I do not use AnyDVD. I'm not working with "Source Code".
I was actually playing around with the animated title "Anastasia" which indicates 4 full feature playlists - all valid, the same length and all the same number of chapters. I expect they are related to language selections where dynamic branching is used to change the language being displayed in credits, titles, etc. within the movie itself. Disney uses this approach also. That's why I was inquiring about a method to indicate or tell which playlist the BD disc menu process has selected and is using/playing as a way to select the desired playlist to be processed within BD-RB.

I believe the newest versions of these decrypting programs (Slysoft & Fengtao) are requiring internet connections to handle newer titles. I wonder if the programs need access to file servers to access data telling the program which playlist, etc. to default to. If AnyDVD knows which playlist to default to in a title such as "Source Code", is that because the program can figure it out? Or because someone figured it out and made the info available to the program via the Slysoft program server. Just some thoughts . . .

http://forum.slysoft.com/showthread.php?t=49011Ahh... so it only applies to Java protected discs. I'm guessing (a questionable guess) the BD-J code is scanned for a text string then. Of course that probably wouldn't work for 99% of titles.

@rick86: you're wrong about anydvd "requiring" internet to handle newer protections. The online database speeds up decryption but is not a requirement. If you disable the database in settings it will still decrypt just might take a bit longer. And if it fails to decrypt you can then try the online BD.

OK - I was basing my comments on posts in the Fengtao & Slysoft forums where server updates were applied to handle new titles (where before it seemed to always require a new release to handle something they had not anticipated).

server updates are applied yes and that results in the increased decryption but it's not mandatory. hell i've had it use the local database on newer discs. If it would NEED the online database then there wouldn't be a local one anymore + there would be no need for Peer to create special BDPHash.bin's (for blu-rays) to get a local decryption. Even with the online database if they're really new or have a new protection there's no guarantee that the online database will be able to decrypt. Thats why a local DB will always be usefull, that and the fact that not every computer is hooked up to the internet. If they were making it mandatory to have online access (like that crappy passkey or DVDFab itself), then a bucketload of users would get screwed over that don't hook their computer up to the net. They'd be unable to decrypt the discs. That's not a slysoft way, thats the fengtao "screw you" way.

I, on the other hand, always try to leave no room for doubt.
Your remarks regarding AnyDVD vis-vis the competing software sold by "fengtao" are uncalled for - and in one instance, downright silly. As far as I know, the only legitimate way to acquire any of "fengtao's" software is via the Internet...

Well my oppinions are my own and based on personal experience with both products, i've tried em both and anydvd+cloneDVD2/BD-Rebuilder is just the superior one imo. The output of those combo's compared to the output of that single product suite is easy. Slysoft wins, and the fact that DVDCrap (what i like to call it) used (and probably still uses) code that was supposed to be freewhare and slapped his own mark on it and then charges for it, just doesn't sit right with me. However i won't argue with the fact "to each his own". We also werent discussing HOW to acquire any of the software. The "internet" part was referring to some (ifnot all) of DVDFab's part needing to have a permanent internet link to decrypt. This is something that's not the same with AnyDVD. It has an online database yes, but it's not mandatory to have it active. So you misunderstood everything on that part.

Not to belabor the point (And I won't comment further) but the FULL thought I was expressing would have been:
As far as I know, the only legitimate way to acquire any of "fengtao's" software is via the Internet. Therefore, it's obvious that any legitimate user of the software would NOT be at risk of not being able to use it for lack of an Internet connection.(Again, I won't comment any further)

Will do, got a re-request for you and i really hope you can implement it soon. I just noticed that my drive's S.M.A.R.T. health status got changed from: Good (in green color) to WARNING (in yellowish color) on my main drive. From the research i've done that sort of thing happens when the drive's health drops below 70% or something. I'm pretty sure its because of the drive overhead created by having to demux, recoded and remux again all on the same drive. Resulting in drive overhead, that just can't be good. So i really really hope you can and will implement that 3rd output selection box soon (below the workfiles one). Having a different target for each operation will result in significant performance, i'm sure of it. Cause right now when it is done demuxing and recoding is finished it has to read the recoded files and remux them into the new m2ts file all on the same drive. That drive head must be going all over the place constantly.
So please implement that feature soon, can't be too big of a deal (i hope).

I usually [Write to ISO] and then use ImgBurn to create the BD. I'd like to burn directly to BD auto-magically using ImgBurn and be able to specify the burn speed, thus bypassing the ISO creation. Perhaps something that could be set in the config file? Example: IMGBURN_WRITE_SPEED=n n = 0/1/2/4/6/8 0=max 1=1x 2=2x 4=4x etc.

Using BD-RB to create a menu + extras disc - feedback:
Source = "Death Race 2" BD ripped to hard drive using DVDFabHD.
This title has 4 separate playlists for the main feature (rated and unrated @ 2 & 28 chapters each).
I played around in "other movie only playlist" mode to ensure I could select a mpeg file to blank that would blank all 4 main feature playlists.
Then, in "full backup" & "edit mode", I blanked that selection, and ran the program (D; drive input, C: drive output) in "High-Speed Option (25gb)" mode.
It ran fine, quickly and to conclusion. The output files look fine. I used imgburn to burn to a BD-RE disc. That worked fine.
I tested the disc on my Sony player - I did not watch it all, but bounced around the menu & selections enough to satisfy myself the movie playlists were blanked but all the extras were still there. All looks well. This is a very nicely featured program.
Question (or suggestion):
Is there a way to select the main title playlists to be blanked by choosing the playlists themselves - like shown in the "Other Movie-Only Playlist" dialog box?
I may have missed it, but I could not see a way to do that - hence the exercise to find a specific file that looked like it was common to all 4 main feature playlists.

this might be a bit down the line after other feature requests like *blanking and *separate workpath and output path, but
once blanking becomes implemented, I would like to be able to designate not only the ratio of video compression like DVD-RB uses, but also if I want to keep an audio track or not, or whether to re-encode, but possibly apply different re-encoding values (or not re-encoding) on a track-by track basis. So that, depending on available space I can dictate how much goes to a commentary track, and how much to give to the main audio, or maybe how much to leave for the dub for the kids if it is foreign animation, etc.
Along the same lines is this would enable me to keep the main movie's (retained) audio and video untouched, and re-encode only the extras of those I am keeping (obviously only if the main movie is smaller than BD25, or is smaller after removing audio tracks I don't want), and possibly reencode different extras at different rates, depending on need or which i like best of them. Right now there is no nice way that i know of to do this other than me doing it manually track by track.
sorry if it is a bit wordy and I miss the mark of what i am trying to say :
basically I would love to see something like a segment viewer, but being able to take into account audio as well as video, with the full gamut of options (for each audio we keep be able to pick no re-encode, core, encode LPCM / or re-encode "a" to "x")
thanks again for some awesome software and all the time you put into it to share with us.

Use BDSub2Sup to examine the subs in the BDRB workfiles folder. It will report if there are forced subs in each sub track.

Thanks for this hint!
Works fine with the Workfiles folder (i usually deleted it automatically) and BDSub2Sup.
If there are forced ones i encode it with Pavtube, if not with Elgato H.264.

Thanks for the blanking feature in the hidden edit (aka advanced mode) in latest release. Testing now.
One request, tsmuxer gives ability to cut from front and back of streams. MultiAVCHD has a split and cut tab. I know that I have tried it with full backup and it seems to work fine. Not sure if multiAVCHD has to modify the playlists or not since length is effected if cutting.
But with regards to the request, if possible, in edit mode, please allow us to enter a start and end cut value that program will then use to pass into tsmuxer cmdline. Start should default to zero so users know that is default for not cutting from front of movie. Hopefully, this can work in movies/menus and full backup mode as well as multiAVCHD seems to accomplish.
BTW, can you add ability to resize the window. Now with edit mode, it would be nice to lengthen the window vertical since it displays more streams, etc.

Can you add to the following to the output log file:
1. average fps for the main video encode
2. size of main movie stream for: original, after demux (that is with deselected audio, video, subs), after recoding. So one can compare the main movie stream sizes:
- original
- selected video/audio/subs
- after recode
From this one can determine the percentage of shrinkage needed during the recode. This would provide some nice metrics.
3. indicate x264 engine used (if any recoding done)

If you've got a BIG bloody rare porterhouse on the grill for me, thanks to fellowmember "Justin Chase", I'll share the secret with you - the secret being how to get viewable PGS subtitles in an MKV container WITHOUT having to bother with OCR ;>}
It's not really a secret, if you're a careful reader (Seems to me I've mentioned this to you at one or two forums before)
Carefully read the following earlier posts to this thread by me and "Justin Chase":
Start with my post dated 1/21/10 and read through and including the 1/24/10 post by "Justin Chase".
To summarize:
1) Use the newly available "MKVCleaver" to automatically extract the PGS subtitle stream as a .SUP file.
2) Load the .SUP file into "BD Sup2Sub"
3) Save as "SUB/IDX"
4) Load original MKV into "MKVMerge" GUI ("mmg.exe")
5) "ADD" "SUB" file ("IDX" file will be rejected - not needed anyway)
6) "MOVE" "SUB" file up until it is one position higher than the matching PGS file (So that it precedes the PGS file when reading from the top down)
7) Set an output filename and location and click on the "Start muxing" radiobutton.
And that's all she wrote ;>}
And because I have a sense of with whom I'm dealing:
Step 1 = 5-10 minutes (Depending on system)
Steps 2-6 combined = How fast can you type? One to two minutes for input, with one hand tie behind your back
Step 7 = 10-15 minutes
Mmmmm, smells like that steak is just about ready ;>}

Feature to blank by playlist for multiple main movie discs (i.e. Directors Cut and Original).
Blue Brothers movie has several m2ts files which make up the main movie. This movie is has 2 versions and are not setup as branching, so its difficult to determine what to blank out.
I would like to do "movies and menu" backup but with the ability to choose only one of the main movie playlist versions. Or choose the playlist version to blank.

Long GOP for BD-5/BD-9 would by nice, BD-Rebuilder already uses "--vbv-bufsize" and "--vbv-maxrate" <= than 15000, but uses 1 second gop (24 frames), using Long GOP (2 seconds, 48 frames) should give a free 2-3% boost on video quality and is totally compliant, IMHO on BD-5 even a small gain is important.

I'll use Cars2 as an example. I have a need for a BD25 and a BD5.
In batch mode if I select BD25 first then save to batch then add the same movie as BD5 the completed batch mode output will only have a BD5 as it replaced the BD25 of the same name.
Can BD Rebuilder apply a suffix to the file the same as it does to a DVD5 such as BD25, BD5 or even 1,2 or 3 as necessary.
Thanks for an outstanding product, your time, patience and support!!

Thanks for an outstanding product, your time, patience and support!! I'll come up with something. I'll probably just automatically suffix the name so it doesn't overwrite in batch mode.

I have a small request too that hopefully shouldnt be too difficult to add (next to that 3rd destination path browse option), and that's to play a (user selectable or maybe the default imgburn) sound when the rebuild with imgburn is complete. With the new methods of blanking and dts-e i burn iso's first to see if they play ok. The thing is that imgburn only plays the sound if burning to a physical disc is completed. My request would be to play (imgburns?) sound when it tells BDRB iso creation has been completed.

Small request, not sure if it's feasible.
Could the copying of BD structure be done at the start of the process? This is mostly for backups directly from physical discs, I have to leave the disc in the drive all the way thru the encode process because it copies the structure at the end. If this were done at the beginning, I could remove the disc, insert a blank and turn on write to disc for an unattended backup. Having to leave the original disc in during the whole encode seems pointless once all tracks have been extracted.

That is why you rip the disc to the hard drive. ;) If BD-RB did what you request, you are not saving much hard drive space anyway!
