Thanks for uploading your sample...
But I cannot reproduce your issue. I tried to replicate your settings as good as I could, but I got a very nice result. BatchMux had no complaints. I used the first 3 subtitle tracks, and something is wrong here. Only the first subs track shows English subs, the other 2 just show question marks. Weird...
I know almost nothing about subs, might well be that BatchMux stumbled upon one of your subtitle tracks. But it sure has nothing to do with the PAL Speedup option. At least not on my machine.
Get my test results here:
https://www.sendspace.com/file/k6ul79
very odd, if i have speedup selected i get the error about not being able to create thumbnail, but if i unselect speed up dvd menu creation works as normal

The key line in your DVD log is this one:
Created File (Menu Page 1): C:\Users\mike7\Videos\DVD_1_MenuPage1.m2v (0 Byte)
AVStoDVD always uses FFMpeg to create the motion menu video even if HCenc is selected as the video encoder. And this encoding step fails on your computer.
First thing I thought was that the reason could be that you had selected a duration of 25 sec for the motion menu while the source only has a duration of 12 sec. But this was wrong, my computer had no problem using 25 sec as the menu duration.
You could try anyways to shorten the menu duration to no more than 12 sec, but if this does not help then I believe that AVS+ is the reason.
//EDIT//
Or did you update your FFmpeg version in AVStoDVD without observing this?
FFmpeg:
The included version 2.2.3 is from 2014 and is slowly getting a little old. For the purpose of AVStoDVD it probably has everything it needs, though...
If you want to upgrade to a later version, there are a few things to keep in mind:
Starting with version 3.1.2 the FFmpeg AVS interface has changed. To work with A2D it is necessary to include the folder "...\AVStoDVD\Lib" in your "PATH" environment variable. It is also recommended to include the folder "...\AviSynth\Plugins" in the "PATH" variable.
Current FFmpeg versions do NOT work under Win XP. There are a couple of fairly recent builds by CoRoNe, rogerdpack and Sherpya which do work under Win XP, though.
The latest and highly recommended version which works under Win XP and does not require to modify the "PATH" variable is this one from July 2016 by rogerdpack:
https://sourceforge.net/projects/ffmpegwindowsbi/files/2016-07-18/ffmpeg.static.2016-07-18-g450cf40.32-bit.ffmpeg-static-xp-compatible.zip/download

no worries, my work around is enable menu, let it moan about not being able to create thumbnail, encode, it will fail when it gets to encoding and creating the menu, keep assest files , start new project, add the .m2v files, edit menu, re prosses but it wont do any encoding, but it will finish making the menue and then creat the dvd struture

I opened AVStoDVD to start a conversion and something told me to go to the codecs setting. Well everything was under ffdshow, and of course LAV is installed. So, is it Windows or something else that kicks it back to other than LAV filters? Or is it the program itself that picks best settings fir a project? Should I always check and make sure LAV is default? How other than going down one by one and hitting LAV can I do this? Thanks. Also should I just delete FFDShow out of my system? What's using it? Is it old and true MPC-HC 64 bit the one that's using it? Or DVDFab, VidCoder,...? That way I'll always have LAV as default for AvstoDVD. Thanks.

This should not happen. If you are under Win10 it may be that after a feature update the preferred DS filters will be reset, but it will certainly reset the filters to the MS default filters and not to ffdshow.
So I believe that either yourself or some software you are using has changed the preferred filter settings to ffdshow. MPC-HC 64 has been using LAV Filters for quite some time, if your version still uses ffdshow it must be pretty old. Time to upgrade...
If you do not need the newer LAV features (supporting newer video codecs or current hardware assisted decoding features) then ffdshow is really not so bad. AVStoDVD fully supports it, and if you are not getting any problems like audio/video sync problems then you could probably stay with ffdshow. I have no idea which of your other installed software might insist on ffdshow, this is something you need to find out yourself by uninstalling ffdshow and check all your video playback or conversion software.
Cheers

I keep getting this error. Never got it before. After I close the command window it tells me if I want to proceed with something about FFMPeg etc... and then it turns out ok. Here's the screenshot I attached. Thanks.

@ dr_ml422
It looks like your AviSynth script for the project cannot be opened. The file is located in your local Windows temp folder.
Do you have enough free space on your Windows system drive?
Have you tried to run AVStoDVD as an administrator?
You could try to move your A2D temp folder to a different drive and / or partition. This is done under "Preferences -> Paths".
And the last thing I can think of is to use a different method for extracting the audio, You are using the default "Wavi + Aften" method. Try to change it to "FFmpeg(AviSynth)".
For debugging it would be helpful if you could open your temp folder right after the crash message appears. Then copy the AVS file to a different folder, open it with NotePad and post the content here,
Good luck

//EDIT//
Don't forget to try to disable your antivirus software temporarily...
And I almost forgot:
Please post your AVStoDVD log file here.

This never happened before and when I close the command window with the error and proceed with FFMPeg etc... as suggested everything comes out fine. Couldn't find any logs. Probably deleted. I should uncheck that preference to delete them in the main window. I don't know anything about Aften etc... so I just left defaults asis. Is the FFMPeg option better? It says it'll automatically switch to FFMPeg if Temp Wav bigger than 4GB. There's more than enough space as it's my C drive and only my apps and regular associated stuff is there. Maybe it's the type of file being processed, or that I had 2 other encoding jobs happening at the same time? Let me run a solo job and keep the logs. They're in the AVSDVD output folder correct? Thanks.

Thanks for posting your log...
I cannot see any problems in your AVS2DVD setup, so I can only make an educated guess. The path+filename string in your Wavi commandline is technically correct, but it is awfully long. In theory the command processor can handle a much longer parameter string, but I do not know if Wavi and/or Aften can handle such a long parameter string.
I suppose that Wavi and Aften parse the commandline and put it into a string variable. And this string variable might be limited in length. My recommendation is to put your source file into a folder with a short name plus rename the file itself to a short name. If this works then my suspicion is correct.
And the other option would be to use "FFmpeg (AviSynth)" instead of "Wavi + Aften" as your audio conversion method. According to your log file FFmpeg has no problems with long parameter strings, and at least for current FFmpeg versions the AC3 encoding quality in FFmpeg is even better than in Aften.
Cheers

Thanks. I kinda thought the title name had something to do with it as sometimes it would even tell me it couldn't recognize the file. Then I would load it directly in with the Add+ button and it would take. It's been making some really nice outputs and so I need it in my arsenal. Not too many out there except DVDStyler, ConvertXToDVD, and w/e DVDFab has.

Now I found a new bug if at all. I can't edit the titles when more than one title is present in a project. It will come up with all the title's names plus the edited name in the Menu after hitting the Menu Wizard. Is there anything I'm missing here?
Ok so now everything went back to normal after restting the menu. One thing is that if you hit save preferences and have the name of your previous DVD in the Label instead of DVD, it will bring that back again unless you change it again. So it's better to just leave it as DVD because one could easily miss that and then have to do it over.

I have a question. What can I do in preferences etc... so that on startup or just after, I don't get that "I couldn't find so and so drive" popup? I had a burner I took out and it was still searching for it apperently. Do I have to go into settings somewhere and change something? Thanks.
manolito
12th November 2019, 01:33
Three possible solutions I can think of...
Under AVStoDVD preferences -> Authoring/Burning you can try to remove the offending burner from the dropdown list and save the preferences as default.
Or open RegEdit and go to HKCU/Software/AVStoDVD. There is a value "DVDBurningDrive" in the right pane, you can doubleclick it and delete the burner string.
If all this does not work then there is a nifty little tool by Uwe Sieber called DriveCleanup.
https://www.uwe-sieber.de/files/drivecleanup.zip
This tool will remove all non present drives from the device tree of device manager.
Good luck

Thanks Manolito, everything is working fine now, especially after switching to FFmpeg for the Audio encoding. The DVDs are really nice, and I noticed that AVStoDVD preserves menu functionality when using the PC to watch it. I couldn't get that with ConvertXToDVD. I'm experimenting with the subtitle output as the regular Tahoma kinda gives a shadow effect. I switched to Bold and will see soon if it looks clearer.

Damn, another report that the A2D preview is not working under Win10...
You are not the first user with this problem. A2D uses the ancient Quartz.dll for the preview, but I never found something that MS has stopped supporting this method under Win10. I am on Win7-64, and I have no problem with the A2D preview. If there is no way to make the preview work, you know that you can specify a different software player for the preview under preferences? Just no editing...
Here is something you could try:
The batch file in the linked archive restores a couple of AviSynth Registry entries which get altered by installing LAV filters. It may or may not help, but it sure does not do any damage.
https://www.sendspace.com/file/l9zgsz
The other file in the archive is VCF2AVS which you need if you want to use the VDub method to edit your source files.
There's only one single A2D developer, and this is MrC. Unfortunately he does only have very limited time lately to work on AVStoDVD, I try to help out with user support as much as I can, but of course my contributions are limited - I am just an informed user, not a developer.

Unfortunately no update to this issue...
I reuploaded my archive, will be available for 30 days:

For the jagged edges this could have several reasons. Aliasing caused by downscaling maybe. Could you upload a short sample? There are some blurring filters which can improve aliasing, but I am not really too familiar with this.

I'm getting way better results lately after taking manolito's suggestion and using FFmpeg to encode my audio. There's definitely something better going on when you use FFmpeg instead of the Aften encoder. My DVDs aren't darker anymore where they were using the Aften encoder. I know it's kind of weird being it's an audio setting, though the results definitely tell another story. I also set my output to DVD-9 to get the best possible picture without further compression. Also AVStoDVD always has DVD Menu functionality on the PC which ConvertXToDVD as of now doesn't. I'm staying with AVStoDVD right now. So if you haven't already tried using the FFmpeg for Audio together with the recommended Video settings go ahead and give it a try.

This really puzzles me... :scared:
Using FFmpeg instead of Aften for audio encoding should not affect the video conversion at all. There must be something else going on.
The only way to find out would be to make 2 different conversions of a short clip, using your previous settings with Aften first and then using your new settings with using FFmpeg for the audio conversion. Save both log files and post them here.

After going to DVDVOB2Mpg's site and reading his explanation of how the DVD structure, mainly VTS Folders and their Vob files contain all sorts of data, and how this can easily get corrupt, I believe it. Especially after clearly seeing the results I'm getting with FFmpeg and DVD-9. The exact file when converted to .iso which should preserve everything, won't have Menu functionality and even not play sometimes. Sometimes fast forwarding it will bring up the main video, sometimes not. Now that same .iso when I convert back to a DVD VTS Folder using either DVD-RB Pro or Shrink, will not only play, it will have menu functionality and the timing also would come back, as with the .iso it was off as well. Kept posting a 37... minute for Full Video.
Better yet you run a video or short clip using Aften as Audio and then FFmpeg with the same Video settings which would be DVD-9 output, DVD Title same as Disc Label, and run the menu preview, then the Avisynth Frame Serving Check.
You'll see how crisp that resulting DVD will be with the FFmpeg Audio settings. I'm now having to go through my whole .iso collection and running them through DVD-RB Pro or Shrink to have a workable VTS folder. Also reason for the VTS folder is when burning and wanting to add it's high-def counterpart, it will burn as data only with the .iso. With the VTS folder I will get both my DVD and it's mp4 or mkv counterpart on the same disc size permitting, and when I play that DVD I will get playback from the VTS folder. Not with the exact .iso on that same disc as it'll not be burned as DVD video but data. Now on the PC that .iso will play from the disc, but only AVStoDVD will make the .iso alone functionable with menu. Using a disc with the PC is ok but kinda defeats the purpose of converting etc...

hmm odd I tried to do some comparisons myself, but I cant get avs2dvd to work with wavi+aften or ffmpeg+aften as it either says unsupported number of channels, or if I choose an ac3 stream it just freezes HCEnc ? so I can only use ffmpeg

Really odd...
Can you post your log file?
//EDIT//
Just guessing, but could it be that you updated MediaInfo.DLL in the A2D\Lib folder with a newer version? If so then please go back to an older version. The last working version is v. 18.05.
The reason for my guess is that you are getting an "Unsupported number of channels" message. A2D gets all the source info from MediaInfo, and versions after 18.05 use a different output format so software like AVStoDVD will get wrong source properties.

nope going back to 18.05 hasn't sorted it
Found PCM audio: 8 channels, 48000 Hz, 32 bits, 80.040000 seconds.
Audio track contains floating-point samples.
Writing WAV file...
input format: Microsoft WAVE Floating-point 32-bit little-endian 48000 Hz multi-channel
Unsupported # of channels passed to aften_wav_chmask_to_acmod
mismatch in channels, acmod, and lfe params
Error: Could not write to the standard output.
not a problem for me as I use ffmpeg anyway
it seems any file with 8 channels/6 channels is not liked, just tried a file with 2 channels and its fine

just done a comparision with all 3 audio encoders and I don't see a difference ??
surely audio cant effect image as video encoding is done first ??

Yes, the selected audio conversion method cannot have any effect on the video quality, the A2D workflow does not allow this. Unless something else is going on, but as long as dr_ml422 does not post his log files there is no way to analyze the problem.

Since the DVD specs do not allow for more than 6 audio channels, A2D always automatically downmixes 8-ch source audio to 6-ch. Which obviously does not work for your source audio.
I spent some time testing clips with different 8-ch audio formats this afternoon, and the result was that A2D is not well suited for 8-ch audio sources.
I used clips from here for my tests:
https://www.demo-world.eu/2d-demo-trailers-hd/
One problem is that there are many different 7.1 audio formats, and depending on the format MediaInfo spits out very different results. Which oftentimes leads to A2D making wrong downmix decisions.
One example is 8-ch EAC3 audio. This format is always detected as 6-ch, I have no idea how the other 2 channels are embedded in the format, but since LAV audio sees it as 6-ch there is no other way than treating it as 6-ch for the conversion.
For other formats MediaInfo reports 8-ch/6-ch audio, and A2D will probably pick the wrong format. Other 8-ch formats like DTS or Dolby Atmos may even cause A2D to detect 0 audio channels. So currently if you have 8-ch source audio you will need to apply some manual workarounds to convert such audio correctly.
The only way to reliably detect the number of audio channels is to check how many channels your audio source filter recognizes. For LAV audio there is a "Status" tab in the configuration window. Play the file in a DirectShow based player and open the LAV audio configuration to get the real number of channels.
Then in A2D right-click on the source title and click "Edit Source Title Info". Under "Audio Channels" enter the correct number of channels.
If you have 8 audio channels then make sure that your AVS script has the command "Audio = Audio.Dmix86()" in it. This will execute a function from "Downmix.avsi" which is located in your "AVStoDVD\Lib" folder.
So my conclusion is that right now there is no automatic way to treat 8-ch audio sources correctly. It would be a major undertaking to detect all possible 8-ch formats reliably, and I have my doubts if MrC has the time to do this in the near future. He has not posted here for almost 6 months, I sure hope that he is doing well...
BTW you may be interested in using an improved version of the "Downmix.avsi" script. Have a look here:

cheers manolito for the info, yes most of my sources get detected as 0 channel and encode in 2 channel, but manualy setting the channels now allows me to encode in 5.1 :)

Happy New Year to all! Ok I'll run two tests with each and compare the two. Do I have to uncheck delete AVSToDVD Log Files in the main window, or are these different files? I always see some files after conversion. Remember I was having issues with FFMpeg and Aften so lets see if it takes with these tests. You have to do a whole movie. A short clip will not be enough to see any solid differences. It could just be the update since I was comparing to some older conversions before Mr, C came back with an update.

No, there is no need to uncheck this option. The AVStoDVD log file will always stay in the output folder after every conversion, and this is the file we need to analyze.

Just like I said. Here goes two logs. Angel Has Fallen is with Aften/FFMpeg, and Olympus Has Fallen is with FFMpeg/AviSynth.

https://filebin.net/5mqvdamyolbg0fc0/Olympus_Has_Fallen_2013.log?t=ue5gq302
If I were to somehow share the video you'll see that Angel Has Fallen has darker more greenish color. It could possibly be a leak from the Menu as I used the Greenish Menu with the DVD Disc in the Background.
