Anyways, Blackmanresize is supposedly similar to Lanczos but produces less artifacts. Spline36resize is similar but probably better than blackmanresize.

Personnally i've test both "Blackman Resize" and also "Lanczos" and i prefer "Spline36Resize". Less artifacts, les mosaics in black pictures, more fast also.

I will left it Spline36Resize, i think is a better rendal. I've found in the last month a webpage with all AviSynth filters comparaison with images comparaison and found the one i used but it couln'd be the same for every movie.

What do you think? Is it better to put the AviSynth check as an optional step (new checkbox in 'Misc' preferences) or live with an occasional Avs2Avi error msg?

;)

Bye

Personnally, i was prefer to set an checkbox. Whenever if this step is crashed, exported output get all done and complete. I was using more batch file from the version 2.3.2 get more stable at this point for me.

If you think that avs2avi.exe crashed can cause faillure to conversion, you can set an parentese "Default=yes" or "no" on commentary in the checkbox title.

What did you think about that?

Thanks!! :p

@burfadel

Just some thought:

1. Haali is necessary, ffdshow too. Are you sure that W7 is using them? Check it with Windows 7 Preferred Filter Tweaker.
2. Using Preview, do you have sound?
3. Any chance to try on a WinXP machine?

;)

Bye

There is no sound with previewing, regardless of whether its with a file where there isn't sound on the output DVD, or those input files where the sound works perfectly!

I have tried the preferred filter tweaker, and the ffdshow merit, reinstalling the latest haali (14 Aug 2010 version), latest ffdshow build etc, no luck...

I don't have an XP machine I could try it on, but if its not an issue anyone else is experiencing its probably something screwy on my computer. Strange thing is though, every other programme and media player plays these files fine. I even tried the latest DVDstyler (v1.8.2 beta 2), and that worked fine with these files... I much prefer to use avstodvd though as the video quality is much, much better IMO.

As a workaround I batch convert the files in Goldwave then encode manually to DVD compliant AC3 which then works fine.

Goldwave can utilise system filters when opening files, hence why you can open the sound from mkv, mp4 files etc.

@burfadel ::::

ffdshow; Download the CLSID revision.
Remove any Klite codecs pack, or other codec packages if installed. It's making some confusions.

- Update your chipset, audio, motherboads drivers for the latest.
- Update directx of windows:
http://www.microsoft.com/directx
clic to Download DirectX
"Latest DirectX Downloads for Gamers "

You should resolve a lot of knowing troubles.

I have been using XhmikorR's ffdshow builds, currently 3556. I'll download CLSID's 3556 and see if that makes any difference. In terms of Directx etc, I always download the latest redist when it comes out, I'll reinstall it. Despite the Intel chipset drivers not being real drivers (just inf files) I still download them and have them handy if needed, currently Intel Chipset 9.1.2.1008, and Intel AHCI 9.6.4.1002. Using Realtek R2.51, AC3filter 1.63b, reclock (NOT enabled for anything except mpc-hc playback), Lame mp3 ACM 3.98 (only installed after I noticed the issue), Haali's 14 Aug, latest Real Alternative, QT Lite 4.

I'll try CLSID's build, play around with a few things and see if I can get it to play nice...!

No problem. I've seen some issues regarding XXL ffshow rev in the past. I've using all the time clsid. After installing ffdshow clsid, try this.

- Go in AVStoDVD; In Preferences; Avisynth;
- Select AVS Source Filter; DirectShowSource.
- Restart AVStoDVD;

Normally, preview is showed with an avisynt script. I can't have a project get done with A2Dsource.

Good luck!

Question: What is your Windows 7 languages and country configurations?

burfadel
4th September 2010, 03:11
Still no luck, although I found something which doesn't make much sense to me. On playback, ac3filter loads (nothing strange there), and shows there is audio playing, but there is no sound. Its literally only this app that I have aproblem with audio. The ac3filter doesn't apply to the encoding and decoding process, only to the playback preview. The Windows 7 language and country is set to English, Australia.

MrC
4th September 2010, 11:25
If you have installed ffdshow, then AC3Filter is redundant: uninstall it and retry.

;)

Bye

burfadel
4th September 2010, 22:23
I'll give that a go, but is AC3filter really redundant? It doesn't decode the audio, its an audio processor. If playing in MPC-HC for example, its still the internal decoders that decode the audio (such as the AAC decoder etc), its only there for the audio processing as I like the sound enhancement of setting artificial surround (stereo widener), and its quality of 2 to 5.1 channel conversion.

burfadel
4th September 2010, 22:59
I removed AC3filter but still no luck. I then reinstalled it, and noticed something in the start menu for AC3filter that I hadn't noticed before (since I usually keep my start menu tidy...). It was a tiny reg file called 'Clear filter cache', it contains the following:

REGEDIT4

[-HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Multimedia\ActiveMovie\Filter Cache]
(the - removes the current content of that key)

Removing the contents of that reg key using the about reg file worked perfectly, all the files that the audio didn't work with before now work.

I don't think it was AC3filter that caused the issue, since the issue was still there when it was uninstalled.

I should point out it was only the processing stuff in ac3filter I was using, in its config I set ac3filter to only be used with PCM, then put it in MPC-HC external filter list, and set its merit has 'prefferred'.

Then setting the audio in ac3filter as 24 bit, 192000 hz (same setting as windows is set to and the audio decoder, 4db of surround, a little DRC, equaliser, etc.

I just prefer the quality of sound from ac3filter processing than ffdshow audio processing (processing only, that is still using the MPC-HC decoders) can be enabled by selecting 'ffdshow audio processing' in the it in the same external filters list in MPC-HC as where ac3filter can be set.

I also prefer the quality of the 2 to 5.1 channel etc converter in ac3filter.

Anyways, problem is solved, thanks for the help! If anyone else has a similar issue, try copying and pasting the above into a .reg file and run it, it worked for me :)

MrC
5th September 2010, 08:41
@burfadel

thanks for sharing your experience and the issue solution. Good job!

To clearly understand if AC3Filter is in the decoding chain or not, and if yes, where it is, you can use GraphEdit and render your input file.

;)

5th September 2010, 10:24
I don't know why the activemovie cache registry entry caused that problem, but I ran through everything I had and everything is running perfectly! Apparently its recreated automatically, and also from using google I found it to be the solution for those having other issues too, such as DVD's not playing in WMP etc... (anything filter and activemovie related I guess)!

Trying to convert a 720p DTS mkv, video is perfect, and appears to demux the DTS track fine as I see the separate file in the working folder, however it get's near the finishing stage and I get this error: "warning! errors found during audio track demuxing." I say ok to proceed, however there is no sound in the finished video and of course the video is undersized due to the missing audio. Any ideas around this?

Muxman has rejected the demuxed DTS track: probably it is not strictly DVD compliant, even it seems to be (DTS - 1536 kbps - CBR - 6ch - 48000Hz - 16bit). One solution is to force re-encoding to AC3: go to 'Title Edit'/'Audio' and toggle off 'Keep DVD compliant audio'.

Thanks for your quick response, will give that a try, and thanks for the great program, use to use convertxtodvd, but the quality is day and night different.

One more quick question, I was trying to use this program to convert a PAL dvd to NTSC, but it seems the program forces PAL and I can't seem to change it even if default is NTSC, is there a way around this?

Thanks again!!

Be sure you have set 'NTSC' in 'Preferences'/'Video'/'DVD Video Standard', then 'Save current Preferences as default', then start the new Project. Steps sequence is important.

Yeah I had it set that way, what I did wrong was I clicked through the prompt at the beginning that says the source material is PAL would you like change the output to pal or keep it NTSC, second run worked like a charm, thanks again. I plan on sending a donation, keep up the great work!

About thumbs avs file editing, it is still in the ToDo list ;)

Hi MrC,

just tested the new alpha with my small DV project and motion menus. Everything was fine except that I hoped I could manually change the avs. Which position does it have on your list?

I'm assuming this indicates a compatibility or encoder issue with HCEnc. Has Hank commented on it and will he be releasing a new beta?

Thanks

Mr. Monte
11th September 2010, 17:34
Just noticed hank released the final 024 yesterday. Can you put that in your alpha 232 for testing or final 232?

Thanks

MrC
11th September 2010, 19:15
You can easily copy the 0.24 final release in \AVStoDVD\HCenc folder. Just delete current HCenc.exe and rename HCenc_024.exe to HCenc.exe. That's all.

MrC,

Thanks quite aware and I already have..was just curious if you or a tester determined the reson for the lock-up near end of encoding (I never had those symptoms) and if it was a encoder issue, did Hank correct it. if it was not a encoder issue, what with the April release fixes it?

Thanks again for your tool

MrC
11th September 2010, 22:31
AFAIK that issue happened only on my old Athlon 1800+ with august beta (april beta was ok, so, for safety, I went back). I did inform hank about that issue and... 0.24 Final does not hang anymore. Surely AVStoDVD 2.3.2 final will include HCenc 0.24 final.

@harnarn

there's a decimal separator bug (see AddBorders(0,112,1972,0,112,1972) command) to be solved with 2.3.2 final.

Workaround: select "." as decimal separator in International Settings instead of ","

Please post the complete log file, including the audio and authoring sections.

About subs, let me make some research because from 2.3.1 to 2.3.2 there are no changes in subtitles detection and choose routine.

Thanks for the reports

All worked well ...one minor glitch subs was totally out of sync ( maybe no speed up to PAL was preformed)
And like i wrote yesterday the audio and subs was added by the manual option and pre demuxed...
Cheers

Ok, thanks again for the report.

Still cannot understand why no subs selection is popping up with latest Alpha.

About 23.976->25 speedup, there is no way to do it at runtime with SubtitleCreator, because the option is not avaliable in command line. BTW there is in SubtitleCreator GUI, so you can change framerate of your srt offline and then add the mod srt to AVStoDVD.

Or try with PAL speedup off. DGPulldown usually does its jobs quite well.

;)

One thing I thought of concerning automatically detecting audio tracks when adding a plain .m2v file:

Could the dialog to choose between multiple audio streams allow priority changing of the tracks? In the cases I was dealing with the other day, there are three files,
16.9 23.976 moviename.m2v
16.9 23.976 moviename - Stereo.ac3
16.9 23.976 moviename - Surround Sound.ac3
If I add the .m2v, the audio selection dialog pops up and lists the two .ac3 files. Stereo is the one that is checked (I would guess because it comes first alphabetically). But I want the Surround Sound track to be the first audio track, so I have to deselect Stereo, select Surround, and then manually add the Stereo track with the Add Audio Track function. If I select both in the other dialog, Stereo is the first audio track.

Is there a way to add a couple of priority buttons to the dialog to move the tracks up or down? That way both could be added at once - in the user's desired order - without having to choose one that might not be automatically selected and then have to use the Add Audio Track function later.

Good point, to put in the ToDo list.

What about 2 new options in 'Title'/'Audio Track' -> 'Move up' or 'Move down' to change order after tracks selection?

;)

In the newest alpha, my last two conversions
HCenc 0.24 hangs and wavi hangs both when finishing.

The same video in 2.3.1, which has hcenc 0.24 also hangs after encoding is finished.

All the conversions are fine during playback.

That would be good too.

For that matter, having 'Move Up' and 'Move Down' as regular button options on the main window to rearrange Titles after loading would be awesome. Right-clicking - like what's currently possible - would definitely get rather tiring after a while, and not everybody uses keyboard shortcuts or at least not prolifically. Something as vital as track ordering needs buttons, IMO. I didn't even realize there were keyboard shortcuts until a few minutes ago (or an option for it in the right-click menu, but I blame that on not being as observant as I should, or just plain forgetting it was there).

Although, for the main window, maybe a total of 5 options would be better - Move Up, Move Down, Move to Top, Move to Bottom, and Move to # (to move the Title to any arbitrary position in the list; for those cases where the Top/Bottom options throw it way too far, and it would be uncomfortable to keep having to click Up/Down to get it into position). I know I'd definitely get use out of that, I pretty regularly author discs with 30 or 40 titles to them - and for one showcase disc, I actually had to deal with 70. That one was actually the first real disc I used AVStoDVD for.

I guess the only issue with additional buttons for all of that would be where to fit them in on the main window, in such a way that it's still able to fit the screen (I'm making the basic assumption that the targeted screen size is 1024x768 or similar vertical resolution). Perhaps a single new button to bring up a dialog meant strictly for track ordering, which then has all those Move options available, would be a more suitable choice.

Since this is turning into a general suggestion post, there were a few other non-related ones that I'd thought of:
Using Matroska .xml chapters with the 'Import Chapters' function. It can read them just fine if you give it an MKV file that has chapters (because MediaInfo reads the chapter times instead?), but if the chapters are in that format and the file you give to AVStoDVD is MPEG-2, it takes several steps to convert that format properly over to a Celltimes file. Being able to use the .xml itself (as gotten from mmg's Chapter Editor or from mkvextract chapters file.mkv > chapters.xml) would eliminate all those extra steps.
In the menu editor, the ability to change the font, size, and weighting (bold, italic, etc.) settings across ALL the Text items instead of having to go and do it one-by-one, or needing to edit the Template file itself to change those settings. I felt like I was getting a cramp in my hand because I had to constantly deal with this for some discs I was authoring the other day.
Also with the menu, the size of the backgrounds in the Templates is 720x405. I don't know how the menu generation steps go (and thus I could be completely off here), but wouldn't text labels and so forth on the menus be clearer if the size of the backgrounds were the same size as the standard being used? Since it's 16:9, that would be 848x480 for NTSC and 1024x576 for PAL (or just go with 1024x576 and for NTSC, just resize down to 848x480 at generation time before doing any more overlaying of text/buttons/etc.). I bring this up because on some projects I thought that the non-background elements looked a tad blurry, and I don't know if that's because they were overlayed onto the background at 720x405 and then rescaled up to 720x480/576 or if it was just the set of options (font/size/weight) I used on them. If that is the way it gets done, then having the backgrounds at 1024x576/848x480 would only necessitate a resize in the horizontal direction, and hopefully, better-looking text/images. If that isn't how it happens, then feel free to correct me.
Yet again with the menu, it would be nice to have some auto-alignment functions so that the labels themselves are easier to manage in relation to the background and to each other. For this (or the font/size/weight options) it might be beneficial to allow selecting more than one label at a time. Having the grid and axis overlays help, but that still requires editing the x,y positions manually or dragging the stuff around by eye - and then there's still no guarantee the items will be aligned to each other.

As previous mentioned, don't use PAL speedup was not god.

Good suggestion. I will add xml chapter format support to the ToDo list.

Take a look at the 'Lock' icon ;)

The menu resolution is 720x405 for 16:9 to keep a wysiwyg approach to menu building: every elements will have exactly the same input and output resolution.
Take note that rescaling of 405 to 480/576 is only temporary, because final visualized height will be again 405 pixels.

If you have already used the 'SnapGrid' feature, you would have noticed that it is just aimed to align the object to the grid. Does it cover your request?

Thanks for all the improvement suggestions. Very appreciated. :)

Encode of video and (predemuxed ) audio went really good.
but no subpicture in vob after encode???
Verify the sst subtitle, because it seems to be only 0.1 MB sized. Is it a Scenarist format sub file?

;)

yes it was a Iron.Man.2.2010.1080p.BluRay.x264.DTS-WiKi.sst and it was choosen from within add subtilestab..( original .srt was 0,121mb and sst is 0,107MB and u have an part of file in post above)
But never mind this.. i dl a app called SubMagic, witch is written in C++ using Microsoft Visual Studio 2008 and this one did the magic on open up .srt and is super easy to use ( for saving back to srt) now i have to do a final encoding after re-edit the srt and saving it to 25fps witch it did like a clock....
Because i have a feeling what the global settings for subs in avstodvd is not working properly i have reduce font to 6pt and arial to see if the output is changed in to a smaller text size on encode...

Not sure if this was mentioned, but also an option to have a sub default to on would be nice, I just did a conversion of ip man 2 and had to hard code the subs so they would be on upon insertion of the disk.
