Good suggestion for improving chapters retaining feat.
:thanks:
Thanks for confirming the "retaining chapters from Sources" does not work for all sources! Apparently not many folks [tried to] use this feature or I'd have found more postings about it.
Dunno if you want to add "chapters from BD" to your list of enhancements but AFAIK that will require eac3to and ChapterGen as MediaInfo doesn't seem to do it.
Anyway now I know to separately use "Import Chapters" for each title.

What happen if you try to remux the m2ts with tsRemux, leaving only the audio/subs tracks you need?
I've received another warning about division by zero, but the cause was a framerate detected as "0" by MediaInfo. That's should not be the same issue as yours.

Hi Mrc,
That movie was encoded with Ripbot264 1.16.4 and re-expoted in AVCHD format with TsMuxerGUI. It not gonna change if i set to m2ts; AVCHD is the same format has the m2ts file?
I'Ve try another movie, samething. Version 2.3.4 is ok! Everything pass.
Let me know if i can help more than this.
**EDIT**
Tested re-muxed in m2ts with txmuser without subtitles; samething.
Also updated ffdshow clsidd rev3871 to 3881; samething.
I'Ve try another movie, samething. Version 2.3.4 is ok! Everything pass.
Ok, let me check. I will give you a 2.4.1 Alpha for testing.

The issue has neen resolved but i found that the image quality is not has the preview stable version 2.3.4!
The fast mouvement is a little bit saccaged sometimes. I seen some desinterlaced lines on caracters mouvements; saccaged a little bit in some action scene.
I use same settings then before. DirecShow; 2-pass; Sline36Resize; etc.

Fine with the issue. :)
About the output quality: could you please send me the log files from 2.3.4 and 2.4.1 Alpha projects that show different quality?

I use same settings then before. DirecShow; 2-pass; Sline36Resize; etc.
Sorry if this has been asked before... The couple times I've used this software it has worked brilliantly, though I was surprised that it defaults to 1-pass and still manages to hit the bitrate target effectively (necessary as my BD-to-DVD conversions were for discs with 6 TV episodes thereon). Can I assume 2-pass will be even better re-encoding to MPEG2, and more accurate still with fitting-episodes-to-DVD, and at what speed penalty? Twice as slow? Ten times?

I will post you the first log; i second will follow when i will finished all conversions.

It seems that encoding 5.1 DTS to 5.1 AC3 using wavi+aften will give 2.0 AC3 audio. Is this not possible or am I making mistake in preference? I have choose AC3 with 448 kbps bit rate. I assume with 448 kbps you will get 5.1 AC3 if the input is 6 channels.
@laserfan
yes, theoretically 2-pass VBR encoding will give you a better result than 1-pass VBR, mainly using low bitrates (i.e. <3000 kbps). Encoding time should increase about 70-80% than 1-pass VBR.
@8ternity
if you have some frames screenshots that show quality difference, that would be great. Otherwise, log files are enough ;)
@ynamojn

Many thanks for your careful reply, and thanks again for this excellent software, which somehow has flown under my radar for a long time now.
Next time I need to use it I am gonna send you a contribution. I promise. :)

Windows 7 64bit.
XviD1.2.1 or 1.32.
Selecting QuEnc (no problem with HcEnc) the conversion freezes as soon as the QuEnc window pops up (Not Responding in Task Manager).
Single or multi-thread.
If I choose multithread I get four instances of QuEnc not responding.
I found that if I changed the fourCC code of the AVI to DX50 there is no problem.
If I was to simply run QuEnc from the subfolder it creates the mpeg file OK.
( I found that FAVC displays the same behaviour, but put it down to being older and not supported recently).
@laserfan
thank you very much in advance
@broxburn
have you installed Windows 7 Preferred Filter Tweaker and selected XviD as default decoder?

@8ternity
Thus AVStoDVD 2.4.1 Alpha does not apply 2:3 pulldown command when encoding with HCenc.
Do you have the possibility to copy&paste here the full MediaInfo 0.7.44 (advanced mode) report?
Bye
I've not update to 0.7.44 from a long time ago, so i had the same version installed in my system. But i saw that you had a mediainfo.dll in a folder into AVStoDVD installed folder..

Yes, mediainfo.dll is just the library. AVStoDVD 2.4.1 Alpha has release 0.7.44. From AVStoDVD short info string, it seems that 0.7.44 has trouble with your m2ts, while 0.7.41 has not.
If you install MediaInfo 0.7.44 with GUI, you may check (Advanced mode) if the framerate reading is really 0 fps.
Let me know

Thank you for this great software!:)
What would be the method to get the subtitles from blu-ray?
I extracted and converted to the subtitle idx/sub using BDSup2Sub to be accepted by AVStoDVD but the result has been that below.

CAn i ask you a suggestion.
Could you offer a magnetic option like in "IMGBURN" for the batch queue box, so when we magnetic on the avstodvd.exe frame, both box magnetic and align on each other like IMGBURN does.
It will be great to attach on the bottom; on the left or right side of the frame so it can stay align and magnetic to the main program will be great.

Have you ever had this problem with subtitles?
@8ternity
good "magnetic" suggestion. Will put in the ToDo list. ;)
@soneca
idx/sub subtitles carry the colors palette info inside them (idx file). The palette info is transferred by SubtitlesCreator during idx/sub to sup conversion. Then Muxman uses the sup file. Somewhere in the encoding/authoring chain (BDSup2Sub, SubtitlesCreator, BatchMux, Muxman) the palette configuration is messed up.
BTW in the latest 2.4.1 Alpha (https://sites.google.com/site/avstodvdmain/AVStoDVD_241Alpha110706_exe_only.7z) (actually just one AVStoDVD.exe file) there is the option (see 'Preferences'/'Authoring') to customize/force the authored subtitles color. Let me know if that new option solves your issue.

I was error with all bluray m2ts video converted into DVD. I remember MrC refered me to the FAQ, but i don't know if it was available..
VSO ConvertXtoDVD has bugs too with the subtitles imported from m2ts files, when playback, a lot of subtitles freezed, not complete, etc.
Check with MrC if he support it or not, but i was submit that issue last year (version before 2.3).
@MRC:
Report that the video quality 23.976fps with the latest alpĥa, everything is back to normal. Quality is great, fluid mouvements on camera mouvements and caracters mouvements.

Hello. I think this is my first time posting in this thread?
Anyway, really enjoy this program and default back to this where CCE fails.
HCenc is tops. I always struggle whether to use CCE or HCenc lol.
I really like how this program handles subtitles and chapters.
I've tried ConvertXtoDVD (which uses Lanzcos and doesn't offer Spline; although I do not know about their more recent updated version) but when I found out about Spline16/36/64, I've never looked back at using Lanzcos for downsizing (especially after learning more about AviSynth and resizers).
I don't know if this has been brought up before, I tried to do a search but couldn't find anything. I remember slightly the topic has been brought up before.
After reformatting my XP-32bit computer, I've installed all the codecs (Haali, K-Lite, etc). I installed MKVtoolnix v4.9.1 (latest as of today: June 11, 2011) and used MKVextract 2.2.2.5 (it doesn't install, you just extract to MKVtoolnix installed directory).
However, when installing Stable Release 2.4.0, it says that MKVtoolnix isn't installed and suggests installing v4.5.0. (I chose not to)
And when starting the program it tells me that MKVextract is not installed and ripping subtitles from MKV's will not be available.
Q: Is there anyway to get AVStoDVD to recognize the newer versions of MKVtoolnix? (beyond v4.5.0)
Aside from dealing with subtitles from inside an MKV file, is there any other cause for concern having issues with AVStoDVD and MKVtoolnix latest versions installed??
If there isn't too much concern, I'll stick with the latest version of MKVtoolnix as they come out.
Everything else about AVStoDVD is wonderful!
Thank you so much for your work :)

Just a comment; you doesnt need k-lite codec pack. You just need to used "ffdshow clsid rev" it does the same and it'S this softwares that all softwares used right now (Ripbot264, AvstoDVD, HDConvertToX, etc..).
You may had confusion with other softwares when using both (K-Lite, and ffdshow).
Sparktank
12th July 2011, 04:45
Well, I've been using K-Lite for a long time.
For other programs (media players, as most media players have crappy internal codecs).
The problem is not K-Lite, it never has been.
I've had K-Lite and AVStoDVD installed together for the longest time and never had an issue.
I go through all the advanced options so there's no confusion with the programs running.
However, the issue is that AVStoDVD does not recognize MKVtoolnix versions higher than 4.5.0.
I've also got other codecs installed that have higher merit than K-Lite (no problems with all these installed).
I've also been following A2D for awhile now and whenever a newer version was released, I would update some of the internal programs (ffmpeg, now ffmpeg-git builds) and none of those produced any problems. Even updated mediainfo when ever that had an update. No problems there either.
However, right now the only issue is MKVtoolnix.
So the question remains: What impact does using MKVtoolnix 4.9.1 have when using A2D? (As of right Stable 2.4.0, it does not recognize MKVtoolnix higher than 2.5.0)
Hi MrC,
Thanks for the reply, but unfortunately the problem continues with the new version.:(

1) Very good the resource to change the color of the subtitle (version 2.4.1 Alpha).
Glad you could also develop a resource to move the subtitle onto the base of the screen.
2) The subtitles inserted cannot be reproduced by my DVD Player LG DV497H
All subtitles compatible: SubRip (.srt / .txt), SAMI (.smi), SubStation Alpha (.ssa/.txt), MicroDVD (.sub/.txt), SubViewer 2.0 (.sub/.txt),
TMPlayer (.txt), DVD Subtitle System (.txt), IDX/SUB.
3) In my case, I can only play the subtitle on the PC.
Thanks!
@jandor
1. Do you mean to customize subs position? It is already in the ToDo list ;)
2. Are you sure you have toggled on the subs on your TV remote control?

Yes, I always try to activate them by remote control. This also did not work.
They are also not shown in "Preview" by AVStoDVD.
I am trying to reproduce them via USB, perhaps be that. I did not record in DVD.

I noted one references to the error 'Cannot find 'C\..\avsinfo.txt' - but I cannot locate the solution.
I'm getting this when attempting to merge VOB files into one Title.
Intel Core I5 Windows 7 64 bit.
This is a PAL DVD movie that I am saving as NTSC.
If I leave it as PAL, there is no error.
I gave up on the merging of the VOB files (I had wanted to exclude the last, small one, because it was just credits).
I used DVD shrink in Re-author mode to edit it then opened the IFO in AVStoDVD instead and converted it without any problems.

Hm... any idea why AVStoDVD (noinstall) keeps freezing randomly on my machine?
(Sometimes while saving a project (next time - after restart - it works) or when hitting the Start button, ...)
I know it's pretty vague... but I can't give much more information than: "suddenly freezes randomly".
Any idea anyway?
Also I have a similar problem as broxburn above... though it's HCEnc which won't work (freeze), while QuEnc does.

Hi Mrc,
Suggestion: Did you can set an option of avstodvd windows like muxman and dos windows can stay minimised in the tray or task bar. When i play a game or work in photoshop, all windows pup'pups when i work with other programs. Grrrr!! :devil:
Thanks!

Really vague indeed.... :)
Set "ffdshow" as default filter for everything you can.
