Hi Mrc,

Suggestion: Did you can set an option of avstodvd windows like muxman and dos windows can stay minimised in the tray or task bar. When i play a game or work in photoshop, all windows pup'pups when i work with other programs. Grrrr!! :devil:

Thanks!
8ternity

Ok, put in the ToDo list.

Hi MrC,

I think I've found a bug in the latest AVStoDVD release. If you add two audiostreams (multichannel & 2ch), select the 2ch audiostream and hit "View/Edit Title Settings", A2D creates following error message:

http://i53.tinypic.com/33k7ng7.png

You can close this window, but it pops up over and over again...

BTW: Is there a reason why A2D defines this 2ch audio as multichannel or it is part of this bug ?

@Sparktank

could you please try this 2.4.1 Alpha preview (https://sites.google.com/site/avstodvdmain/AVStoDVD_241Alpha_110712_exe_only.7z)?

Regarding MKVextract...

A2D v2.4.0 proofs the following registry entry (as specified in source code):

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\mkvmergeGUI\GUI

A2D v2.4.1 Alpha looks at:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Uninstall\MKVtoolnix

...and here we got a third possibility ;) (I'm using MKVToolNix zip archive):

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\mkvmergeGUI\GUI

Maybe you should check all three (I hope there aren't any more) possible entries for the correct path.

Cheerio,
JohnJ

@John_J

endless loop... must be fixed asap. Thanks for the bug report :)

About registry entries, good suggestion. I will update the mkvextract routine with all the 3 possibilities.

;)

@shreeit

Muxman has refused the retained DTS audio track. You have to force re-encoding to AC3: go to 'Edit Title'/'Audio', toggle off 'Auto Audio Setup' and 'Keep DVD compliant Audio' and then select AC3 as 'Audio Format'. Restart your project.

@MrC
I encountered a problem with the latest version 2.41.
I have a DV project with about 20 files. After importing them into the project I change the title name from e.g. "scenes'20070405 13.50.28" to" 05.04.2007 13:50" because I also want to have this title name in the menu. AVStoDVD stops right before audio encoding of this title should start. I get an error message (...look at the log...) but there is nothing obvious. After doing some tests I noticed that you pass the title name as part of the filename to the encoder and in my case a file with ":" shall be created. And this leads to an error in the end.

Can you please have a look?

MrC

@ggtop

workaround: use the label "05.04.2007 13:50" only in the DVD Menu Editor and not in 'Edit Title'/'General'/ section.

In the next release I will add a chars check (\/:*?"<>| banned) in the 'Edit Title'/'General'/'Titlename' textbox

;)

Thank you for your quick reply. To use the labels instead is what is wanted to try next.

But I wonder what is the edit title textbox is good for?
You extract the original titlename from the filename so you can 100% sure it is valid. So it would be good it AVStoDVD would use the original title internally for temp files and so on and the edited name for the label. Or you change the behaviour of the textbox to read-only, because who would need a titlename that has to be changed a second time for the label...

@MrC..Sorry one more time..I am trying to understand and learn..You suggested Muxman refuse to retain audio track. I used tool with two .mkv files. Boths files had DTS 6.1. File1 is success and file2 is half the size of actual .mkv file and no audio.

Hi Mrc,

Related to last issue, i take out the subtitles and everything is okay for the conversion. I was only had that subtitle, no srt. I can even convert it, look like they are corrupted.

THanks :--)

@ggtop

I will think about that :)

@shreeit

in project #2, force DTS track encoding to AC3: go to 'Edit Title'/'Audio', toggle off 'Auto Audio Setup' and 'Keep DVD-compliant audio'.

@8ternity

you are welcome

@MrC. I uncheck 'Keep DVD-compliant audio' from preference/audio menu. Can't find go to 'Edit Title'/'Audio', toggle off 'Auto Audio Setup'

I noticed I got warning/error by ffmeg.exe

Stream #0.1: Audio: pcm_s161e, 48000 Hz, 6 channels, s16 4608 kb/s
Incompatible sample format 's16' for codec 'ac3', autoselecting format 'flt' [ac3 @07c097e0] No channel layout specified. The encoder will guess the layout, but might be incorrect

Can't find go to 'Edit Title'/'Audio', toggle off 'Auto Audio Setup'

Right click on the source title, click on 'Edit Title', select 'Audio' tab, toggle off 'Auto Audio Setup', toggle off 'Keep DVD compliant audio'. C'mon just be a little more intrepid when you wander within AVStoDVD GUI ;)

Do not worry, leave ffmpeg follow its path.

Hi, small remark:

I was trying to get a DVB recording to DVD. I pulled it through ProjectX (http://www.videohelp.com/tools/ProjectX) to remove any errors first. It gave me a m2v and a mp2 file which I threw at AVStoDVD. But on authoring I kept getting the following error:

"Warning! Errors found during Title 1 Audio Track 1 encoding. Do you want to start Backup Audio encoding routine (FFmpeg based)? [YES/NO]"

To be clear this happened when AVStoDVD tried to do an audio stream copy (ffmpeg "-acodec copy" parameter). I went to investigate and it turns out that the error is caused by the fact that my source audio file has the word "error" in its path.

I assume this behavior is intentional, but it can have side-effects, like in my case where I wanted to keep original audio quality but the audio stream was encoded. Maybe this behavior can be smartened a bit so there's no unnecessary encoding when a stream copy can be done. Maybe the warning could be clearer too; I didn't know that by pressing YES I was choosing for an encode instead of a stream copy.

@whiskey

1. Open the srt file with Notepad
2. Save it with ANSI format
3. Open the new srt with SubtitleCreator (it comes with AVStoDVD package)
4. Report here the error message from SubtitleCreator (if any)

;)

Hi MrC,

I have the same problem as Whiskey. I think the problem is a typing error in the SubtitleCreator parameters AVStoDVD provides. See, there's no space between the "-i" and the IFO path parameter!

SubtitleCreator Parameters: "C:\DVD\DVD_0_Clash.Of.Empires.Battle.For.Asia.srt" -p4 -i"C:\Program Files (x86)\AVStoDVD\SubtitleCreator\Examples\VTS_01_1.IFO"

Bye

Could you take a look at one of the above logs which also demonstrates the srt problem? It seems to create the .sup files in both cases just fine though. I checked them with SubtitleCreator.

I can provide you with temporary files for both cases above if you want. Thank you!

Yep, there's a bug in the ffmpeg log parsing routine: currently if there is the word "error" in the log file, whatever position, then the audio demuxing step is considered failed. Just have to fix it. Thanks for the bug report.

No errors. I don't know what exactly goes wrong, because a perfectly good .sup file seems to be created during the AVStoDVD process. I can take the sup file AVStoDVD just generated (but gave me an error on), put it in the same AVStoDVD project instead of the srt and the whole authoring process goes without a hitch. So the sup generating in itself doesn't seem to be faulty.

You've got mail.

The (fake) error is probably due to the 'DVD Asset Path' and 'Temp Files Path' having the same value in your Preferences. It is obviously a bug to be fixed but, as workaround, you can give different paths to these 2 variables.

Did you had instruction regarding custom dvd menu templates (background, button, etc.) to customisez a dvd menu in default? I want to check for creating a theme menu, starting to play with that to create one menu for testing.

MrC

@8ternity

you can start having a look at the 'Templates - Readme.txt' file under '\AVStoDVD\Menu\Templates' folder. Then you can download some custom templates from here (http://sourceforge.net/projects/avstodvd/files/avstodvd_addons/More%20Templates/) and get some hints.

I hope you will share your creations with us. ;)

Thanks in advance

Hi all,

right now I'm converting some dozens DV tapes to DVD and always wondered why the preview doesn't work although the final DVD / encoded file works fine.
My setup is Windows 7 64bit, Cedocida DV codec installed, AVS Source Filter: AviSource().

I did some research and found that I have to use all involved components in the same "environment". Because I have 32bit Avisynth installed it loads the 32bit cedocida VfW codec with AviSource() enabled, I also have to use 32bit MPC-HC for preview. And that was the culprit, because my default preview player path pointed to the 64bit version. After installing the 32bit version in parallel and changing the path everything works fine.

Like I said before I have some DV tapes to convert to DVD. I find it nice to have the titles fading in/out. The default is 0.4 sec. I searched for it in the registry but it seems to be hard coded. Would it be possible to store this value in the registry/prefs so one wouldn't have to change it on every title?
Another thing is that the default gets displayed as 0,4 on my language settings (German) and that is invalid for the check...

Hi MrC,

I just encoded a project, but it failed to encode on 1 of 4 menu pages, so that the file size for this asset is 0 kb which led to an muxing error. I was asked whether I want to keep the temp files. They are still there but not the avs files. Is there a way to resume the menu creation and the muxing?

Thank you

Hi ggtop,

yes, there is a way: delete the project log file from your Output Folder, then start again your project (assuming you have saved it ;) ). You will be asked if you want to keep the DVD asset files. Then, if you want to take a look at the menu avs script, go to the Temp Folder just before AVStoDVD asks you to keep or delete the asset files.

Let me know

Great, you saved my day ;-)
I did like you told me and it worked exactly how I desired. I was prompted for each asset to overwrite or to keep. I only agreed to the previously failed asset file and A2D continued to mux. Output is fine ;-)

I think this happened because I had my laptop under heavy i/o and QuEnc din't get the path and the input file passed in a certain time so stupid windows told me QuEnc isn't working properly and has to be closed/debugged...

Many many thanks

Keep up your very very appreciated work & support

What does it mean when I'm asked to create a Layer Break position? I've been trying to burn dual-layer DVDs, and I got no clue what this step's asking me.

I made a DVD that had one glitch, a hiccup/stutter, and I'm wondering if this Layer Break had something to do with it. I don't want any hiccups.

ggtop

Hi Shablagoo,

you may want to read the guides at the IMGBURN forum:

http://forum.imgburn.com/index.php?showforum=4

A DL (double layer) has 2 layers in which the data is written. The layer break is the point where the laser of your drive goes from one to the other layer. Mostly there are multiple options to choose that point. Some drives are quicker than others...and you also have the option to make it seamless but that is not by default and not all stand-alones can handle that.

Since this is a very basic question I suggest to simply use the search function at doom9. There are propably thousands of threads dealing with this topic.

And welcome to the forums.

AVStoDVD (Temp/Assets folders) and CCleaner (Custom "Include" directories)

So for the past couple days, I've encountered a problem. It's been fixed. But thought I should share this anyway. (In case someone else gets the problem in the future)

In the program settings for A2D, I've set the Temp/Assets folder to custom locations.
(And this has been working fine in the past)

But I also use CCleaner to clean my computer of junk files and decided to "Include" the Temp/Assets folders to CCleaner.
I like to keep the files until I'm completely satisfied with the project. (Or save them to reuse them for later, just in case).
When I'm happy with the project results, I clean the folders.
I used to do this manually, until I added the folders to CCleaner.

Now here's where the problem comes in...

The options (for CCleaner) for custom folders ask you whether you want "files only", "files and subfolders" or "files, subfolders and the folder itself"
I chose "files and subfolders", thinking it meant scan the files and subfolders.
But it actually deletes the files and the subfolders.

When the assigned Temp/Assets folders are deleted and you run A2D, A2D can't find the folders.
Unlike some programs, it doesn't re-create the Temp/Assets folders by default.
Since it doesn't recreate them, it can't find the designated folders; thus, it really has no place to store the Temp/Asset files.
And when this happens, it can't Frameserve properly.

Solution:
I always check to see if it frameserves properly before encoding.
With the Temp/Assets folders deleted, it gives you an error notification, instantly.
Simply create the assigned folders again and it should be fixed.

>.< This took me awhile to troubleshoot lol. I went through so many uninstalls/reinstalls/older versions/betas for A2D, MKVtoolnix, AVISynth, etc.
It wasn't until I re-installed A2D and did a CClean, that it dawned me to check CCleaner's settings. And voila, it was there. >.>
^_^" I changed it from "files and subfolders" to "files only".
Also had to add each folder, both Temp and Assets, into the "Include" list in CCleaner.
And things are back to normal!!
*happy dance*

On a side note:
MKVtoolnix updated to version 5.0.0.
FFmpeg updated to FFmpeg-N-32754-g936d4d4
MediaInfo upated to 7.50
>Note: Before updating any of the files, please read the "ChangeLog" to the designated program to see if it's at all pertinent to your desires.
In some cases, you don't really need to update (as some changes might be just a simple bug for a different operating system).
>>Note: Be sure to use the right FFmpeg builds before replacing (sherpya/FFmpeg Win32 binary Builds by Gianluigi Tiesi), as this could lead to various problems.
>>>Note: The current updates for FFmpeg (sherpya), the author has noted that time is limited to fully test for bugs, so use at own discretion.
>>>>Note: If updates seem to cause problems, default back to original installed files.

And the above updates seem to be compatible with the latest stable release of A2D 2.4.1 (August 16th, 2011).

(I always try and replace the original installed files with updated files. This seems to work without too much trouble, except sometimes for MKtoolnix. Thankfully, MrC has fixed this problem :D)
(_Backup folders are created in case of complications).

And that's about all I wanted to report, lol.
Didn't really mean for it to be too extensive :rolleyes:

@Sparktank

thank you for the complete report about your experience with AVStoDVD and interaction with other software. Thanks also for reporting the compliance with the new MKVtoolnix, FFmpeg and MediaInfo releases.

In the next AVStoDVD release I will add a consistency check on the Temp/Asset default folders, with the prompt to create them if not found.

MrC,
I have some good news for you. A music video fan has been trying to create a DVD with PCM audio tracks. In trying to help I tried every program I could find, none of them would let me either mux an m2v with pcm or author a DVD with PCM.
Yours was the only one which provided an option for "wav". Thanks for this! However, when opening an audio track, files of type wav are not shown. If I pick *.* I can force it to load, but I haven't yet tested if it really works.
The suggestion is to include *wav in the file mask if indeed this really works.
I do have another request, I'd like to support adding closed caption files (in .scc format) if possible, then it would be the only free authoring program I know that supports CC, and/or pcm data.
From what I gather, this requires the ability to mux user data into the mpeg, and finally to set a flag in the output IFO.
Thanks.

@jmac698

not sure about the "file mask" you are referring to. If you add your m2v video file, then press 'Title'/'Audio Track'/'Add Audio Track', wav type files are already included in the filter list, and you can pick them up.

About SCC subs, I'm not familiar with them. I've found some info here (http://www.theneitherworld.com/mcpoodle/SCC_TOOLS/DOCS/SCC_TOOLS.HTML), but I do not have any SCC sample. Could you provide one?

Some tech stuff, this is added per frame to mpg user data.
closed caption file format (.scc) which consists of the time code followed on the same line by a sequence of sets of 4 HEX codes representing the actual closed captioning data that will be added to the picture header user_data. This is CEA 608 standard. Only two codes per frame. user data field will start with 02 09

Another way
Up to 30 codes in each GOP. The first bytes in the user data field will be 43 43 01 f8 9e

@jmac698

very interesting, thanks for the tech info ;) I would like to have some free time to write a parsing library for SCC format... but... have you already used the SCC Tools (http://www.theneitherworld.com/mcpoodle/SCC_TOOLS/DOCS/SCC_TOOLS.HTML) command line utils? Do they work properly? If yes, it would be much more easier to use "ccasdi.exe" to convert scc to srt and then return to standard path (srt to sup conversion with SubtitleCreator).

Of course, by that method, we would lose all formatting info contained in scc (if any).

;)

I agree, there's already good tools to prepare CC and convert to SCC. All you need to support is muxing the SCC into MPG - there's hardly any parsing to do.
I have a feeling you are not understanding CC - these are not subs, they are never turning into bitmaps, just pure hex data put into the mpg stream. It's the TV only which displays them. The dvd player doesn't (usually) understand them, but puts the data into the video signal untouched.

You also have to set a flag in the IFO file.

I have never gotten CC to work in DVD. IFOedit doesn't let me set the flag, and ccmux didn't seem to work.

Probably I have not :) As I told you I am not familiar with CC. I have to spend some time to deepen a little bit. But, what is the real benefit to use CC instead of standard DVD subs? The possibility to equip single mpg files other than DVD structures? Wouldn't be easier to go with Matroska in these days?

;)

Aha, I see you are from Italy. Let me explain the importance of CC in some countries. Well, for USA it is a requirement for all TV's to show these kind of captions. It's primary use is for the hearing impaired people, however it is also quite popular for those who want to read another language (for example reading english and hearing it also). It is sent on TV programs, you can also record into mpg. This is put on DVD for some reason too; it's cheaper to keep it the way it is, if the source already had CC, and to prevent importing of DVD, because CC is not decodable in Europe.
I want it because I have no other way to create this signal.

OK, I have some sort of audio issue with one of my MKVs. I get Process aborted during title 1 audio (track 1) encoding operations.

Can't see anything odd with the file though? Any ideas? Fresh install of AVS and most settings on default. Codec issue maybe?
