Per the forum rules please do not bring problems processing such content here.
A quick edit of the post to remove dubious filenames only confirms your guilt!

Strike issued.

I'm guilt of trying to save my collection because my disck had blown out inside the dvdplayer, had seen this before but never believe it could happen to me. I had to by a new player and went to by a new disk (dvd) when i discovery that i can only by a boxset. What should i do with the other 4 dvd's that come in the box? Sale then separate? It is against law anyway - it is written that no disk can be sale without the boxset.
So i download the this first 4 to create this dvd.
It was my mistake not to clear the name of the file, sorry its done - i guild.
The question here is that AVStoDVD (2.3.2) is not working for me as it should be. This night i'll try to unisntall this version an install last one.

@trabanom

it seems an issue of bad formatted srt subtitle file. First, where did you get that file? Second, if you open it manually with SubtitleCreator, what error do you get?

;)

Bye

I crate the srt file on Subtitleworkshop myself. Before uninstall 2.3.2, i'll try to open on Subtitlecreator to see any kind of bad format.

The SRT file open in SubtitleCreator without any error message. I saved as... and change the name and extention but it did not work. I uninstall 2.3.2 and install 2.3.0. It works perfect.
Another thing is why the new X6 spend the same time as X4 CPU to do the same job? I´m getting 46% to 58% CPU load. the multi-thread flag is on. Do your multi-thread system work fine?

I cannot help but notice this discussion is continuing despite previous warnings.

@trabanom
The rights and wrongs of why you downloaded these files is not the point here. This has been discussed many times here and the rules are clear and well documented.

@all
We do not tolerate asking for, or offering help with downloaded copyright material.
Please cease discussion of these files.
Final warning.

@Soichiro

please take note that Windows 7 is still not fully supported by AVStoDVD (see readme.txt file). I suspect there's something in the win7 64bit registry management I am missing, simply because I do not have it installed, so I cannot check. Sorry, but so far I can only give suggestions and not solutions on that issue. Anyway next release will have a more robust errors handling during AVStoDVD startup.

@8ternity

Hi there, are you doing? About the audio issue, please refer to Help/FAQ/Audio/Q4.4

Hi.

Using FAVC and was having an audio sync problem, so I was looking around for another free video software program and found yours. Unfortunately, this program does the same thing so maybe you can give me some insight on what may be causing this. It is fine until about half way through the video when the audio goes out of sync and gets progressively worse up to the end. I tried the evalution copy of ConvertXtoDVD with the same file and there was no such problem. Any idea on why this is happening?

Also, as in FAVC, it does not recognize text inside of parentheses or brackets. What do you need to do to remedy this?

Thank you in advance for any help you can give.

Was hoping someone here could help.
I'm trying to make a dvd of video clips for a friend. The very first time it didnt work so I updated AVStoDVD and all the other applications it asks to install I ok'd.
Now it completed sucessfully (still had 2 errors that I bypassed saying output time was not as long as original or something) but other then that no errors reported by AVStoDVD.
I tried it out and at the beginning of every clip everyone sounds like a chipmunk, then aprox 10 sec into the clip (every one is different) there is no sound at all. I tried it again changing no settings just incase it was just some glitch and it did the exact same thing.
They are all .MP4 videos and all different lengths. 96 clips in total. 1:53:11 hours total.

I tried copy/paste the log but it was too long.. I tried to attach it but the file was too big so I had to upload it to google doc instead.

Two Questions
It is possible to edit the ends off of a video in avs2dvd? If for example I accidentally leave a few blank frames at the beginning or end.
It is possible to turn off Trellis Quantization? My computer is so old I'm getting 2 FPS.

Yes, JohnJ did a damned good job! As every supporter so far ;)
And a new skin icons set by you would be very appreciated.

Yes it is. Just go to 'Edit Title'/'AviSynth' and use 'Trim' command.

It is possible to turn off Trellis Quantization? My computer is so old I'm getting 2 FPS.

Trellis in QuEnc 0.75 Alpha is not really used as Trellis, but it was a quick&dirty way to use a current control to activate multithread encoding. Surely DGZ, in the upcoming release of QuEnc, will fix that.

BTW, my friend, do consider upgrade your system.... ;)

Would you like a link?

From the link and the log file you sent me by PM, it seems it is OK.

About the issue, there is a strange thing that can explain the out of synch: output video is long 58.01 and audio is 58.04. Probably video decoding/encoding failed somewhere.

Please try again the project using DirectShowSource instead of A2DSource (you can set in 'Preferences'/'Video').

Better if you use latest AVStoDVD release (2.3.3)

Let me know

;)

P.S. Remove the 'no PM' setting because I cannot reply directly to yours

Thanks I was hoping for a gui for editing maybe add it in the next version. Turns out the 2fps was due to the encoder freezing not an old computer. Looks the source file had issues.

Thanks for the reply. My internet has been down so I was just finally able to get one of the videos uploaded. I picked a short one so the file was small to download.

I tried making a disc with only 4 titles and the same sound problem happened

I use AVStoDVD all the time to make movies with .mkv, .avi with no problems. Only these files are giving me problems.

@ThaDraGun

Haali Media Splitter is not capable to handle that mp4. You have to download (http://sourceforge.net/projects/guliverkli/files/MP4%20Splitter/MP4%20Splitter%201.0.0.3/mp4splitter_20050310.7z/download) and install mp4splitter by Gabest (unzip packed file and run regsvr32.exe mp4splitter.ax from win console).

Let me know

Sorry, don't understand how to install those files. When I extract it gives me "MP4Splitter.ax" what do I do with it.

I think I figured it out.
Put it in system32 folder then go to run and type
"regsvr32.exe mp4splitter.ax"

I do that and it gives me an error and it says that mp4splitter.ax may not be compatible.

Im using windows 7 x64

I also tried in command prompt (ran as administrator) and same error.

I'm currently running with WinXP. Maybe some Windows7 64bit users can give us some hints how to install mp4splitter. Or you can google a little bit.

Haali worked fine here, but I'm also on XP. Haali version is Nov 21 2010, ffdshow-tryouts rev3631 (Nov 12 2010, clsid), and the working script is below. The resizer is a matter of preference (I chose Bilinear for speed reasons only), as could be the use of SSRC.

DirectShowSource("VID00091.MP4",fps=30,convertfps=true)
BilinearResize(720,480)
SSRC(48000,fast=false)
AssumeFPS(29.97,sync_audio=true)
SSRC(48000,fast=false)

Alternately, you could always remux those MP4s to MKV using mkvtoolnix and then give the MKV to AVStoDVD. Still a good idea to make sure you're using the latest version of Haali, though.

With Windows 64 bit, the 64 bit stuff goes in System32 and the 32 bit stuff goes in SysWow64. :)

Try copying to C:\Windows\SysWow64 and running regsvr32 on it from there.

If that doesn't work, try putting it in the same folder as the program that's calling it instead of a system folder, if possible.

I think I have the latest version of Haali. I just downloaded from their site (version 1.10.348.15)
I installed it and tried it again and same sound problem.

I think I'll try to change to MKV instead.
Ive never used mkvtoolnix before.. is there a way to throw all the clips in there and it'll do them one after another.
I dragged and dropped them all in the window and it looked like everything was going ok, but then it made it all into one file.. but multiple titles. AVStoDVD didnt like that.

What audio decoder are you using? That would have more of an impact, honestly. And that's what it sounds like to me. It may be that Windows' AAC decoder doesn't like Haali. The solution to that would be to make sure that ffdshow is in a high enough priority to be chosen over Windows' own decoders. I don't know if this still requires a third-party tool to accomplish or whether ffdshow itself can be used to do this (I'm also firing blind here since I don't have access to Win7 at all, and Vista doesn't have this problem from what I've experienced).

Anyway, yeah, you can set mkvmerge to do batch jobs. Add the file, then go to the Muxing menu and select 'Add to job queue'. Then, File->New to clear it out, add the second file, and repeat. For 96 files that'll get kind of tedious, though. There is a shortcut, however, which will take the tediousness out of clicking around the GUI and inputting each file into the queue manually.

Since this is Windows 7, you should be able to select all of those MP4 files, and then use the Alternate right-click menu to copy their filenames (hold down Shift while right clicking, and choose the 'Copy Path' option). Paste this into a plain .txt document using Notepad. Now, bring up the Replace dialog (Ctrl+H for a shortcut) and tell it to Replace All instances of .mp4 with .mkv" " (yes, the quotation mark-space-quotation mark is necessary). At the bottom of the document, hit Enter twice and paste the filenames again. This time, when you bring up Replace, tell it to change .mp4 to .mp4" (again, quotation mark necessary, although there's just one of them this time).

At the top of the document, type mkvmerge -o " and then hit Enter a couple times so that the .mkv filenames are spaced down. Save the .txt document. Right now it should look like this (shortened for brevity; the C:\Users\Documents\whatever file paths will be whatever they really are on your setup):
mkvmerge -o "

C:\Users\Documents\whatever\VID0001.mkv" "
C:\Users\Documents\whatever\VID0002.mkv" "
C:\Users\Documents\whatever\VID0003.mkv" "

C:\Users\Documents\whatever\VID0001.mp4"
C:\Users\Documents\whatever\VID0002.mp4"
C:\Users\Documents\whatever\VID0003.mp4"

Now, create another new text file and open it, but leave it blank for now. If you have OpenOffice, great. If you don't, download it from here (http://www.openoffice.org/). Anyway, what you want to do is open the .txt file with all the filenames in it in OpenOffice's spreadsheet program (do this through the right-click->Open With... menu or whatever it is in Win7). It may show up with a proper 'OpenOffice.org Spreadsheet' or 'OpenOffice.org Calc' name or just as 'scalc'. 'scalc' more likely if you have to go and tell it where scalc.exe is (should be C:\Program Files\OpenOffice.org 3\program\scalc.exe).

When it tries to open the file, you'll see a dialog appear. Click OK, and it'll open the file in the spreadsheet. Now, select all of the .mkv entries and cut/paste them to the top of column B. Then cut/paste all the .mp4 entries to the top of column C. Finally, click on the mkvmerge entry and use the drag feature to duplicate it down until there's a mkvmerge entry to match every .mkv and .mp4 entry.

Now, select the last .mp4 entry, hold Shift, and then press Ctrl+Home. This should select all of the entries with text in them. Now, either Copy (Edit->Copy or Ctrl+C) the entries, and paste them into that blank .txt file you'd created and should have open. You'll notice that there's a bunch of tabs in the document. To get rid of these, copy one of them, open the Replace dialog, and paste it into the Find field. Leave the Replace field empty. Then tell it to Replace All. So, now it should look like:

mkvmerge -o "C:\Users\Documents\whatever\VID0001.mkv" "C:\Users\Documents\whatever\VID0001.mp4"
mkvmerge -o "C:\Users\Documents\whatever\VID0002.mkv" "C:\Users\Documents\whatever\VID0002.mp4"
mkvmerge -o "C:\Users\Documents\whatever\VID0003.mkv" "C:\Users\Documents\whatever\VID0003.mp4"

That's it. Save the file and give it a .bat extension. Then just double-click on the .bat file and mkvmerge will mux all of the MP4 files to MKV automatically.

Well, there's already the audio delay info read by MediaInfo (CTRL-I on the source title, Audio section). But right now it is not used, just read. Could you please verify if the audio delay detected by MediaInfo on your m2ts is same as CX2D (1823.71 ms I guess from the log file)?

It would be quite easy to implement an auto audio delay fix. We should just validate if MediaInfo audio delay is reliable.

;)

The Source was an MKV BD5 that i've reconvert in DVD for my brother to be readable on his dvd. So here the Source of ConvertXtoDVD has imported for conversion.

I had another project that i used ConvertXtoDVD about the audio delay. I will give you the other source and exported in my next reply.

Let me know if you need someting else.

8ternity!

Basically what I would know, assuming that CX2D is doing a good job in auto adjust delay, is the correlation with MediaInfo delay reading. Maybe on more source titles.

Thanks!

First, THANK YOU for your software.

I am trying to migrate away from FAVC, not the least because AVSTODVD seems to support .m4v which I am trying to handle right now.

I have two .m4v files I'd like to put on one single layer DVD disc. One file is ~900MB and one file is ~1.2GB. When I add them to the same project, the size is around 6.5GB, and the size indicator at the bottom of the AVSTODVD screen goes red to tell me about the size problem. I just assumed as long as I told it I wanted a 4.7GB size final image that it would down-sample the files as needed... I believe that's what FAVC has been doing for me. However, the end result was that the size was not adjusted to fit at all - the size remains the same 6.5GB which I can't fit on my DVD of course.

So how do I get AVSTODVD to downsample my files? Is it a problem of .m4v sources? If so, any tips on software to convert to the right format first? Or did I miss some critical settings? Do I have to know more about how to set the bitrates? Any tips on how to do that? I thought AVSTODVD would be smart enough to auto-adjust the bitrates based on my target size. No?

Again, THANK YOU SO MUCH for your generous efforts to create this software.

I also noted that when this project was done building, the progress status screen told me that although video and audio encoding were completed, the "Mux Video/Audio" was red (not completed?). I tested the finished product by mounting the image and it seemed fine, so maybe the project didn't require any video/audio mux? Is this normal?

Thanks again. (If there's a better place to ask for support like this, please let me know - sorry if I goofed it up.)

AVStoDVD adjusts video bitrate to fit the DVD size, UP TO the lower avg bitrate limit. Default is 2500 kbps but it can be customized in 'Preferences'/'Video'.

The red signal in the Progress window simply means that the step is not required.

On a side note: take some time to read the Help file (press F1 everywhere) because it contains these and other useful info about AVStoDVD

Thanks for pointing this out. It wasn't totally obvious to me, but I'm certainly not an expert. (makes sense after you point out how it works, but it's not immediately obvious on its own.... maybe a tooltip when you hover over the size calculation could help point newbs to the lower avg bitrate setting?)

I'm really stuck on one minor issue, though. I found that reducing the lower avg bitrate (I think you might want to say "DOWN TO" instead) obviously reduced the size of my DVD output, except that the calculated size will not go down below 4451MB (whereas the DVD-5 size is 4450MB), even if I set the lower avg bitrate to the bottom (500).

Is this a limitation of my sources? Is there something else I'm missing? When the project finishes, will it really be exactly 4451MB and I'll be out of luck? Or will I be able to squeeze that onto a single layer DVD even if it's just 1MB oversize?

The red signal in the Progress window simply means that the step is not required.

Ah, OK. To me, I think big red signs like that usually indicate FAILURE conditions, which in this case causes confusion because it isn't a failure. You might want to consider something more along the lines of greyed-out or some text to indicate that the process was skipped because it was not needed. Just a friendly suggestion. :-)

take some time to read the Help file (press F1 everywhere) because it contains these and other useful info about AVStoDVD

FWIW, I reviewed the help file for the video settings page, and that help information wasn't really aimed at helping people like me who don't understand the point that you have to adjust the lower avg bitrate setting to fit more data into a single layer DVD output.

So, although I appreciate and accept a pointer to RTFM, what I think would help more newb-ish people like me is more of a howto. In fact, I looked for one linked from the AVStoDVD homepage and searched on the internet and didn't really see much (which is surprising since I believe this is great software that isn't exactly new).

I'm not saying you should go out and write one - you've already done your part. But information like this would be really helpful if it was published somewhere....

Anyway, I hope you might have feedback on my problem above, and again, THANK YOU very kindly for your great software.

How many video footage hours are you going to insert in a DVD-5?

As I often say, AVStoDVD is an open project: many users have already given their contribution about avisynth functions and graphical stuff. If anybody want to write a complete guide to AVStoDVD, they are welcome.

Frankly speaking, I "just" have the time to add new functionalities, update the help file and make some troubleshooting on the forums.

Yeah, the red signs led me to believe somethings wrong with my encodes in my last life :p.
But I got used to it, although it's not my logic.
Greyed out would be more sophisticated.
Thanks MrC for looking into this.

And a
Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year
To you.

FWIW, I reviewed the help file for the video settings page, and that help information wasn't really aimed at helping people like me who don't understand the point that you have to adjust the lower avg bitrate setting to fit more data into a single layer DVD output.
At the most basic level, bitrate is the amount of data that gets read (or by extension, stored) per second. An 'average' bitrate means that the encoder will try to target X particular datarate as an average. Lowering or raising it makes the output files smaller or bigger, respectively. I will now do a basic explanation of the math behind it.

The reason is this: kbps, one of the standard units of measurement for bitrate, stands for kilobits per second. Eight kilobits (kB) = one kilobyte (KB), because eight bits = one byte.

So, all one has to do to figure out how large the files they encode will be is to take the length of the video in seconds and multiply it by the datarate (if you multiply by kilobit, then you have to then divide by 8 to get the number in KBs).

In that example, a 150-minute (2½ hour) video is 9000 seconds. You know that a single layer DVD can hold 4.26 GB (4260 MBs or 4,260,000 KB), so you set the equation up and solve to get the datarate. Like so:

4260000 / 9000 = ~473

473 is the rate in kilobytes. So multiply this by 8 = it becomes 3784kbps. 3784kbps is the maximum constant bitrate the disc can handle for a movie of that length (and this includes the audio, so if you want/need just the video's bitrate by itself, subtract the audio bitrate from that number; there's also some container overhead to account for; if you round the total rate down by a couple dozen to a hundred kbps it should be okay). Now, the encoders used typically are going to be using a variable bitrate, which means that the rate will fluctuate over time based on how complex the source is. If it doesn't need all of those bits, then they aren't used and the rate drops (thus the minimum threshold). On the flip side, if it needs more in certain areas it can do so (the maximum threshold). The average bitrate setting tries to balance these two thresholds out over the entire length of the movie, so all those peaks and depressions ultimately result in the average you specified.

In my case, I calculate the maximum constant rate the disc can take for the movie I want to put on it, and set that as the maximum rate. I then make the average bitrate equal to or below the maximum. Since I do all my encoding in HCenc prior to ever giving it to AVStoDVD, I can see how large the output files really are (and HCenc is extremely good with its bit allocation and encoding quality, so even if you set X to be the maximum and average rates, it doesn't mean it'll necessarily ever need that much - I frequently prepare myself and my HCenc profiles for a movie to take up almost an entire layer of a DVD-5 and when all is said and done, many times the output files are a gig or gig-and-a-half smaller, with no real visual loss because it didn't need all those extra bits).

How many video footage hours are you going to insert in a DVD-5?

About 5 hours 39 minutes. Is there an absolute limit in this regard? It says 4451MB for ALL bitrates from 500 to 1500. Hmmm.

As I often say, AVStoDVD is an open project: many users have already given their contribution about avisynth functions and graphical stuff. If anybody want to write a complete guide to AVStoDVD, they are welcome.

Right. I wish I had the expertise to do that. I hope someone else does.

Frankly speaking, I "just" have the time to add new functionalities, update the help file and make some troubleshooting on the forums.

And you deserve all the credit in the world for that!!

Three things:

1) WOW! Thanks for the details! I did in fact understand at a basic level that bitrate affects how much video can be stored in a certain container. But what I didn't think about was the math. It's cool to actually learn the math, so thank you!

2) As I mentioned, I *did* understand at least the basic concept of the relationship between bitrate and output size. More what I had a problem with was understanding this particular tool and the fact that it does not auto-adjust this for you. The name of the setting on the video preferences page is obscure enough to a relative newb not to be very obvious that this is a limiting factor. I'm just saying that anything to make that more obvious could be helpful. :)

3) Using your very helpful math, I see that my videos, which total at just about 5:40, or 20400 seconds, should fit in at around 1670bps. But AVStoDVD keeps calculating my output size as 4451MB no matter if I set the lower avg bitrate to 1500 or 500. So there must be a problem there...

MrC

@oribani

wait wait, my friend, the problem is that estimated output size is 4451 MB instead of 4450 MB? Are you really worried about that? It is just an approximation "error"... go ahead and do not mind.

BTW, as a suggestion of mine, if you care about video quality, do not lower too much the viedo bitrate. Around 1500 kbps is really low, even for a good mpeg2 encoder as HCenc. You should move to more efficient algorithms, like xvid or x264 (mpeg4).

If you want to stay with mpeg2 nevertheless, then lower the resolution from Auto/Full-D1 to Half-D1 or VCD (see 'Preferences'/'Video'). More details in the Help section.
