Not sure if this was mentioned, but also an option to have a sub default to on would be nice, I just did a conversion of ip man 2 and had to hard code the subs so they would be on upon insertion of the disk.

See here (http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?p=1428796#post1428796)

Take a look at the 'Lock' icon ;)
Ah, I see now. Took a couple tries to figure out how to use it properly, though.

Take note that rescaling of 405 to 480/576 is only temporary, because final visualized height will be again 405 pixels.
'Final visualized height' meaning the resolution on playback? I was thinking in terms of the menu acting as regular anamorphic video does, which would mean the menu is stored at the typical 480/576 height and resized horizontally on playback, rather than vertically*.

*depending on the TV/DVD player, of course.

Like I said I wasn't sure if any perceived blurriness was a result of whatever goes into generating the menu or the text settings I was using. The text items seemed to appear crisp (albeit a tad thin-lined) on my little 13" CRT set, but on the HDTV in our living room I remember it looking rather blurred (and I do admit this could well be from what the DVD player is doing - I can't remember if I have it set to upscale to 1080p or not).

If you have already used the 'SnapGrid' feature, you would have noticed that it is just aimed to align the object to the grid. Does it cover your request?
The SnapGrid option still relies on dragging the item around, though. It may snap into place while it drags, but alignment to other elements is still accomplished by eyeballing it. I meant an option similar to what image editing tools like Photoshop or GIMP have, where pressing a single button will make all selected elements centered against the background and/or equidistant (or other various alignments) from each other without any human interaction beyond choosing the right button to push.

What I'm describing is something like this:

In the newest alpha, my last two conversions
HCenc 0.24 hangs and wavi hangs both when finishing.

The same video in 2.3.1, which has hcenc 0.24 also hangs after encoding is finished.

All the conversions are fine during playback.

I usually install codecs as needed, when reinstalling my os on one of my computers, I thought I would just install CCCP. Before installing individual codecs this was the pack I used to use, which was a few years ago.
I have never had a process hang on me and I use avstodvd on a daily basis. I didnt figure it out until after my initial post.
I just removed CCCP and went back to individual codecs and everything is back perfect. I am not sure what the deal was all my settings are the same in ffdshow compared to the control panel ffdshow in CCCP.
Keep up the great work !

@qyot27

your suggestion to implement a "Photoshop like" aligning feat is surely challenging. I will think about that, but, please, consider that I'm not a programmer (better, I'm not a programmers team), AVStoDVD is just an hobby... so it could take looong time. ;)

@larrylumbo

thanks for the report. Since AVStoDVD relies a lot on properly configured directshow decoding chains, I always suggest to get rid of codecs pack and install *only* ffdshow stable releases.

I have done several encodes now with your app but 1 thing still eludes me.Sub global settings
In your program folders under subtitlecreator is a couple of .xml sheets witch totally overrules the global settings .
After changing these values i can alter the font size, font but not get ride of outline so this scratchy looking subs after encode are nice and clean i like always to have Arial normal caption as result.
if you take a look at subcreator gui u can ad a transparent option to outline setting so the outline tearing of subs goes away .

Can you make an xml sheet for this so i can use it ??
cheers

@harnarn

AVStoDVD (re)creates the \SubtitleCreator\Data\Profiles.xml at runtime (for safety), so no way to edit it. Best option would be to have the possibility to customize subs format in the GUI: already in the ToDo list. Current workaround: open your srt file with SubtitleCreator, edit it as you like, save it as sup file. Then load the sup file into AVStoDVD.

Let me know

Thanks for info will try this out ...
but editing the .xml is possible u must edit both in subcreatorfolder but the only thing i don't knew is parameterset for outline-transparency=true ..

The same video in 2.3.1, which has hcenc 0.24 also hangs after encoding is finished.

Greetings fom Germany, same Problem here.

After the HCenc 24 is finished (100%) a windows message popup "the mpeg2 encoder wont work anymore"

After i close this message the work goes on. The result is a dvd that works perfect, no problems. I think there is only a problem at closing the mpeg2 encoder...

Avisynth 2.58
Haalisplitter from 14.08.2010
ffdshow from 19.09.2010
Avs2dvd 2.3.2 Alpha from 10.09.2010
Windows 7 64Bit

Any idea?

EDIT:

Ok,found a solution.
it was a problem with HCenc 0.24...
Hank did a 0.25beta release that fixes this problem. U can get it here:
http://www.videohelp.com/tools/HC

Version history:
HC025 beta
I've found a source which always hangs at the end, the encode finishes OK but HCenc will not close.
If you want to use it with the HC024 release, just rename this new HC025 beta.

Ill test it!

Hello MrC,

First of all, thank you for your software :).

I've been searching through the whole thread, but I havenīt found anything related to it. Excuse me if this has been reported before.

I started to use your software (2.3.1) to convert NTSC avi's to PAL with the speedup option.

The video is converted without problems to 25 fps (outstanding HC:) ), but the sound sometimes work and others, doesnīt.

So I have uninstalled AVStoDVD, FFDshow anda AC3Filter. Then I have installed FFDshow and AVStoDVD again. And everything was the same, without working properly :(.
So I was looking at what could be wrong, and finally I saw on the title info that the audio was marked just as a "Direct Stream Copy" instead of being re-encoded to 25 fps. I "fixed" it by unticking "Keep DVD compliant audio".

Could you look how to fix it?.

I've got the log with the encode that works properly, but if you want I can repeat the encode with the "bug".

Also I've seen in the log in "Preferences" sectionthis: "PAL Speedup: -1" when I also seen "PAL Speedup: True". Is this just a comestic bug?.

Regards and thank you in advance :).

MrC
25th September 2010, 22:20
@ Mr. Monte

there's something wrong in your decoding chain. Please check your codecs. Moreover the project avs script you have posted have a DirectShowSource call, instead the error you are now reporting is from FFMpegSource: please do not change AVS Source Filter while trying to understand what's wrong. Do not forget to download the 2.3.3 Alpha hotfix.

@tom942

first of all welcome there and thanks for using AVStoDVD and reporting back your experience.
I assume that your source title has a AC3 audio track, right? By default AVStoDVD keeps DVD compliant AC3 track. So far I have left to the user the duty to check if a audio track must be kept or not: of course if you are using the 'PAL SpeedUp' feat, the audio source track must be re-encoded and not kept. I can add a msg warning about that in title load routine.

'-1' or 'true' values are boolean variables not converted to integer in the log routine. In the latest 2.3.2 alpha the cosmetic bug has been fixed.

;)

Mr. C,

Where do you get 233 Alpha hotfix? i went to your homepage and it's not there. I went back in this thread and only saw 2.3.2 hotfix on page 77. How do I fix my decoding chain? What would be the best way? i have nothing but FFDSHOW and Halli loaded. No codec packs and using Win7Tweaker all are set to FFDSHOW. Is there a program or script to reset all to default?

Mr. Monte
26th September 2010, 07:44
O.k..using graphedit, I was able to find out that on MKV's with AC3 or DTS, FFDSHOW was NOT decoding audio (video was fine). However, MKV's were associated with Windows Media Player, so they played fine.

I was able to correct the issue by REINSTALLING AC3Filter. however, why was FFDSHOW unable to decode? I looked at the FFDSHOW decoder setup and AC3 and DTS were set to libdts and lib52?

TIA

MrC
26th September 2010, 12:43
@Mr. Monte

of course I was referring to 2.3.2 alpha hotfix. Sorry for the typo.

If ffdshow was not able to decode AC3/DTS audio, you have made the right choice to reinstall AC3Filter. To understand why ffdshow is not working with AC3 and DTS you should address the question to the authors (http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?t=120465).

Yes, it was an AC3 stream. It is the tipical AVI with an XviD and one or two AC3 streams. I forgot to write it down. Sorry :(.

I thought that if I tick "Pal speedup" in "Preferences", both, audio and video, were reencoded without user interaction. The warning, as you said, would be useful :), or even do the change the soft itself, without user interaction, what do you think?.
A thing that I donīt understand was that I tried an AVI with a length over 2 hours 30 minutes, and the video and audio were enconded without me doing anything :confused:.

Greetings :).

Ok. I tried a movie with exactly a 2:46:30 length. I added the AVI (with an XviD stream and a AC3 stream), and the soft, automatically speed up the video and the audio to PAL, without modifying anything by me, I mean without unticking "Keep DVD Compliant audio".

Why this time the audio was not marked "Direct Stream Copy" and was properly re-encoded?. That's what I donīt understand :).

Greetings :).

@shreeit

I suppose you are referring to audio encoding time: about 2h40min. Surely ffmpeg (encoder for large 5+1 audio tracks) is not a lightning bolt... Some improvement could be achieved by adding the "-thread n" command option (to be tested).

BTW, what is your configuration (CPU, RAM, etc.)?

Could you give me the image size for the installer? I will build another one of your choice from the two version you want.

Question: Why you didnt set my splash screen in default ? You dont want to replace the original one?

Could you give me the image size for the installer? I will build another one of your choice from the two version you want.

There are 2 images:
164x314 (https://sites.google.com/site/avstodvdmain/AVStoDVD_Splash_164x314.bmp)
150x57 (https://sites.google.com/site/avstodvdmain/AVStoDVD_Splash_150x57.bmp)

Thanks again for the support. It is very appreciated, mate.

Question: Why you didnt set my splash screen in default ? You dont want to replace the original one?

Just because the original splash image is commonly associated with AVStoDVD on the web. But I think to make yours as default for a big release change (i.e. 3.0.0)

Thx, all works fine now.

Specially the convert from 23,976 mkv to 25fps dvd works since one of the last versions (i think its 2.3.1)absolutly stutterfree...

Anyone else experiencing issues with converting DTS to 6 channel AC3, no matter what settings I do, and what version I try (.1 or .2) it converts to 2 channel. Any suggestions if you aren't experiencing this? Thanks in advance.

thanks for this new version!!!

have not used for a while...all seems good!!!

however, how does one change DC Prec for HCenc to 10 in your GUI? or do I need to goto the hc ini file and manually do this. If I have missed it in the GUI, sorry. If it is not there, maybe it could be?

thanks again!!!!

Hi ron,

DC precision is set at runtime by following criteria (VB code copy&paste, it is quite clear):

Select Case .VideoBitRate
Case Is > 6000
DC_Precision = "10"
Case Is > 4000
DC_Precision = "9"
Case Else
DC_Precision = "8"
End Select

If you want to change it, you have to toggle on 'Edit Command Parameters at runtime'.

I'm not sure if it affects end ruslts in any way, so far all DVDs work fine but converting avi files (2nd pass) results in this error in HCenc INFO bar ERROR large source mismatch found in pass 2 starting at frame 0, count 1 frames

Just thought I'll bring that up here, also have one more question ! is there any way to add more custom menu themes/ background ? Never tried anything since always use the black one included with installation, otherwise top notch software !

Where do I find my DTS filter output mixer settings? I checked ffdshow but couldn't find it in there, anywhere ese I should be looking? Thanks for your help.

In this case, it may be that ffdshow IS you dts filter. Looking at the FFDshow Audio settings section, check your mixer setup. If it set to 2-channel output, that is your problem.

If DTS is disabled in your FFDShow setup, then you will have to find your alternate DTS decoder's settings.

If you get no visual errors, I would not worry about. If you do, you can try to switch AVS Source Filter from A2DSource to FFMpegSource.

Of course you can add more themes. Just create a new folder in \AVStoDVD\Menu\Templates and use same files configuration as other original themes. Moreover I would suggest you to share your custom themes to all user, if you wish. ;)

I forgot there's a FAQ about that: see Help\FAQ\Audio\Q4.1

Hey MrC

Forgot how much fun your program is....

I notice that when I convert my HD mkvs from personal video collection (server) to DVD, your gui inserts colormatrix in the wrong spot. My understanding is that it needs to be BEFORE the converttoyv12 statement. Your gui places it after the resize statement.

What do u think?

Perfect, looks like that was the issue, should have checked the faq, thanks much!

I would leave the colormatrix call after the converttoyv12 because colormatrix requires YUV2 or YV12 colorspace.

BUT I will move every video filter before resizing, which is always better.

Thanks for the suggestion

that is strange, because when I use colormatrix and put it before the convert2yv12 I get no error when running....but I did check:

http://avisynth.org.ru/docs/english/externalfilters/colormatrix.htm

and you are right. Thanks!!!

Note though, that when you say: "BUT I will move every video filter before resizing, which is always better."

sharpening, as in digital photo imaging, should ALWAYS be the last part of the workflow, including after resizing...so msharpen should remain after the resize.

also, as a suggestion, could you make it so there is a registry entry to make the defaults for AQ and lumgain in HCenc? I always use 2 for each, this way one can leave this for all projects and never have to worry about forgetting it.

thanks!!!
