sharpening, as in digital photo imaging, should ALWAYS be the last part of the workflow, including after resizing...so msharpen should remain after the resize.
Sounds reasonable. Will do. :)
also, as a suggestion, could you make it so there is a registry entry to make the defaults for AQ and lumgain in HCenc? I always use 2 for each, this way one can leave this for all projects and never have to worry about forgetting it.
Do you mean reg keys that are updated each time the user select an advanced HCenc setting, or "phantom" reg keys the user has to edit manually?
;)

thanks!!!
You can save the encoder preferences as I use HC with AQ 2 Lum 2 as well by ticking the checkbox at bottom left of settings when you are editing.
It says something similar to " Accept these settings as default"

HCenc defaults to AQ 2 anyway. Has since sometime during 0.24. You'd still need to adjust LUMGAIN, though.

Noticed one other thing...if one makes custom changes to the AVISynth tab, and then you go to another tab, the changes you made in the AVISynth tab "reset" to defaults. That is, what you entered is gone.
cheers!!!

Do you mean the 'Title Edit' form tabs? That's strange, because I cannot replicate it. Could you specify the issue step by step?

Great program, BTW.

Which version of FFDShow should we be using with AVStoDVD 2.3.2? Was it tested using a particular version?
The FFDShow Tryouts website (http://ffdshow-tryout.sourceforge.net/download.php) lists rev3154 as the "official" version, but the latest versions go up to rev3611 at the time of this post.

@gautxori
thanks for the kind words. I know that Menu Editor is a bit tall (my std res is 1280x768), I will try to steal some pixels everywhere to best fit it.

I usually avoid to use ffdshow not stable release. I have perfomed all my tests using official beta 7.

I am having problems with FFmpeg Encoder that have just started recently. When I try to edit the menu, the second window will pop up and generate the first thumbnail. Then a box will pop up that says "FFmpeg video converter has stopped working." I close it out and then the second thumbnail will generate and the error window pops up again. This will continue for each title I have on the DVD. The menu generates fine and I can edit all the elements.
The FFmpeg error message also pops up when using HCEnc as my video encoder, but only after completing each title.
This only happened within the last week or so and I use this program often - what's going on? Thanks.
(a screencap of what pops up in a separate window when generating thumbnails is attached).

If before *something* everything was ok, you should understand what's that *something* and try to reverse back. I could only guess:
- codec updates
- AviSynth broken
- "invasive" software installation
- replacement of FFmpeg with a newer release
but I have no crystal ball...

As far as I can figure, there was no *something* that would have changed anything. Since this, I have reinstalled AVStoDVD (same crashes), replaced ffmpeg.exe and HCenc.exe with no differences. I'm also getting "avs2avi.exe has stopped working" when editing the menu as well. So encoding with quenc gives me no errors, but encoding with HCenc does (only once finishing the encode). Editing menu items causes ffmpeg to crash no matter what.
Can't think any changes that would cause it to stop working all of the sudden. Avisynth works fine in VirtualDub and I haven't updated any codecs. TIA.

some questions:
1. Have you ever used Menu Editor without issues? Even with latest 2.3.2?
2. What is a2xx.file?
3. Have you already tried to unistall AVStoDVD (and clear AVStoDVD reg key) and install it again?

If I have understood correctly, you get no errors the first time you add a title, then, after saving the .a2d project and reload it, you are getting errors.
Correct?
;)

P.S. Where did you get the file you want to convert?

So far this is what i have done ..
1. Uninstalled 2.3.2 latest
2.Installed the 2.3.2 alpha build 100913 with hotfix
3.manually installed HcEnc 0.25
4.Started up a new project with output of muxed mpeg2, worked like a clock
5. Reloaded the same project but did change to dvd5 folder output, after this tried to open menu wizard and "error 35603 Invalid key".. after this press ok on error dialogue popup window..
menu wizard starts up but u can't do anything with it, u can tick the alternative boxes but as soon u press run editor "runtime error 91 Object variable or with block variable not set", then pressing ok on error popup application shuts (AVS2DVD)down .completly

They only thing I have done since last use was uninstall firefox browser, cos it was freezing my PC under windows 7 64 bit and replaced with safari. Could that be the cause, if not, any ideas?

Any other insight into what my problem might be? Everything was working perfectly and it just stopped working. I installed it on another Windows 7 x64 computer i have and I get the same errors: FFmpeg encoder crash when I try to generate thumbnails for a menu. It also happens when ECenc finishes encoding a movie.

I am alos receiving the run-time 9 error subscript out of range. I have uninstalled and reinstalled to latest version. Program worked flawlessly for months until this past week with no rhyme or reason it wont execute. Just shows runtime error upon double clicking icon.
I have cleared the registry using ccleaner also to no avail. I can run it un xp mode but prefer not to as it was never required before and also it encodes 100 times slower.
Any help will be appreciated.
Thanks

When exactly do you get that error msg?
BTW, to reset everything:
1. Uninstall AVStoDVD
2. Locate folder "C:\Program Files\AVStoDVD" and manually delete it
3. Locate registry key "HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\AVStoDVD" and manually delete it
4. Re-install AVStoDVD

Thanks for the fast response. I have tried to reset as you outlined and resulted with the same error. The issue occurs when clicking the .exe file to launch AVStoDVD. The program does not launch into the gui at all and I immediately recive the runtime 9 error.
Hopefully this is a bit more clearer, the program did work corrclty a few weeks ago so I'm thinking its a win 7 issue, but I was hoping it might be AVStoDVD related before opening that can of worms.
Thanks again,

I had a AMD 3.2Ghz X4 CPU and it took 45 minutes to create a DVD from 4x 350Mb files.
Now I have a 3.0 X6 CPU and still spend 45 minutes to do the same job.
Does 0.2Ghz make so many difference that a X6 = X4 ?

Hi,
I'm having the same problem as Phishstx, with the "Runtime error 9: Subscript out of range". It happens every time I try to open AVStoDVD. It was the first time I've installed AVStoDVD on this computer. I tried uninstalling and reinstalling, tried installing an older version, and tried with the no_installer version. Nothing makes it work. I get the same error every time. I've tried running a registry cleaner and restarting and what not to no avail. Please assist.

I'm not a mod, but ...PREAIR.avi doesn't sound like you legally own the movie.

@trabanom
Per the forum rules please do not bring problems processing such content here.
A quick edit of the post to remove dubious filenames only confirms your guilt!
Strike issued.

@Soichiro
please give me more info, such as OS name, OS bit version, if you have checked and installed all the required software in the Installer routine, if you can visualize the splash screen, if you can visualize main form, if you can try with another PC (another OS). Any additional info could be useful.
@trabanom
it seems an issue of bad formatted srt subtitle file. First, where did you get that file? Second, if you open it manually with SubtitleCreator, what error do you get?
;)

MrC: The OS on the computer in question is Windows 7 64-bit. I have all the required software installed. However, when I try to load the program, I don't even reach the splash screen. I simply get a message saying, "Run-time error '9': Subscript out of range", and when I click "OK" (which is my only option), the program simply closes. However, I can apparently run it on my Windows 2003 Server (also 64-bit). That doesn't particularly help me since that computer is 1000 miles away, but it will hopefully help track down the problem somewhat.
