Maybe I should send you a MediaInfo of one that is read by TV ?
yes please... send the media info
I could try on a USB stick though but I have big doubts the files will be recognised there and not on network.
maybe maybe not... it is just to get more info about this "weird behavior"...

I'm on Win7x64 SP1 and recently switched from 1.1.8 to 1.1.9. I had problems with java not being recognized. The java.exe was located at c:\windows\system32 and shown in Windows Explorer. When navigating there from the dialog opened by pressing F11 in the Java status page, it was not shown (several other files weren't shown as well). Same thing in 1.1.8, but as 1.1.8 doesn't check, if the file exists, BDSup2Sub e.g. still worked fine.
It seems this is not related to user rights, as I set a copy of java.exe to the same rights and ownership as ipconfig.exe (same folder and being shown). Still nothing.
After comparing the setup to my other PC, I saw that there was no folder "Program Files (x86)\Java" on the one, that caused problems. So I installed the current JRE from the java homepage (http://www.java.com/de/download), which finally solved the problem. Might have been related to my java having been the version, that comes with Windows and was 64bit therefore, but that's just a guess. Maybe this can help others.
Sometimes I get async files when encoding MKVs, though audio is set do "Just Mux". When remuxing the created video stream with the audio from the original MKV everything is in sync. Any ideas on that?
Don't know, if this has been answered yet, but I had the same problem sometimes. For me, it always came from segmented mkv files. Which means, the mkv is actually made up of several video files, that all have their own audio. Audio for a segment does not need to be the exact length of the video. So for the output, they can overlap or have a gap. The problem is, that demuxing those streams will output a file, where they are written one after the other, without paying attention to their actual offset.
If you want to reencode those files, you can do that with eac3to directly from the video file:
//show, what's inside the file
eac3to segmented.mkv
//encode stream 2 and 3 to aac, options are per output file
eac3to segmented.mkv 2:Output_stream2.m4a -quality=0.5 -otheroptions 3:output_stream3.m4a -quality=0.4 ...

Interesting, I'm having similar issues with xvid_encraw not being unrecognised, using F11, but things worked fine in 1.1.8.
It's almost like Staxrip has found everything is A okay in the system and will not allow a user change, which really could mean user permissions/rights in Win7, but in XP I'm not sure how this could be same thing, maybe registry?

Second issue on the way to be solved
You are absolutely right Fanta. They all work for me too on the stick :devil: I am moving the encoded files (2,41Go) from the photo directory to the movie directory (4h45min) and see if the TV recognises the files there. If so, I shall move the original MTS files, much bigger (5.69Go), too !
While encoding with mkvmerge v3.3.0 ('Language') the MTS 30min 2.91Go to mkv 754Mo file there must be a loss in quality ?
Is there a way to do it without any loss ?
4 hours later : It works both mkv and mp4 files are read on the video directory. i shall move at least one MTV file to see if it is read as well. Documentation says AVCHD is not read but AVCHD lite might be ?
:thanks: again for your help Fanta

sorry about that question... i guess you mean encoding with staxrip and the output is using mkv container...
so, for keeping same size requires 2 pass encoding using target size OR no recompression... maybe increasing crf value helps to keep size but at the end of the day it will be quality loss...

Yes, that is what I meant Fanta. I had left the recompression at 100% (last page of options). crf was between 19 and 21 as recommended for Film HQ (not HD i guess HD=HQ) if I recall well. I did the 2 pass as well at least on one of the two encodes (container mkv and mp4). Both finished around 700Mo for an original around 2.2Go. So I got a size decrease of 2/3.
Looks like I will search for target size. But that's probably on the second or third page that seemed to complicated for me.
I will have a try and keep you informed. :thanks:

happens after indexing with ffms2 or immediately when using DirectShowSource.... sometimes stax crashes because of this, sometimes it's only a failed operation..
then the same thing happened in the old version of staxrip...
after some looking and backtracking I came to helix yuv codecs....
so I changed the VIDC.YV12 value back to ff_vfw and then the old version finally worked again...
since the new version of StaxRip requires you to use helix, I can't use it until there is a workaround... and since I'm not the only one with this problem, it should have some priority, I hope..

about avi file it coult be read and write permission... are you using network drive?... try to copy the file to your internal HD.
for 2pass encoding you need to change the profile from Quality mode to 2pass, in main form... then StaxRip will 'ask' for target Size.
i will check the mediainfo at home...

For AVI file input StaxRip uses the AviSource source filter by default. This does not always work for DivX or XviD sources (Packed bitstream, FourCC code and other things).
You should try to manually change the source filter to FFVideoSource (maybe even DirectShowSource).
Good luck

Is there a way to specify the output directory for mkvmerge when selecting "Merge Files" option for source?
I've tried setting the paths in Project Options, as well as going to Tools>Launch>mkvmerge GUI and specifying the output directory there.
I frequently merge many 4GB avi files together - having the same drive being accessed for reading and writing data at the same time seems like a poor idea when I have an additional drive that can be used for writing the merged .mkv file into.

I am trying to use Staxrip with SEt's latest MT avisynth but I can't because it doesn't allow me to put other filters above Source ones. Is there a switch to disable "The first filter must have the category Source" warning? I tried putting SetMTMode under Source category through Profiles but it gives me "The script's return value was not a video clip, (Is the undefined value).".
I want it very much because I want to use QTGMC deinterlacing (without multithreading it's very slow).

Go to Options - Filters and you have "Code inserted at top of scripts". Put there SetMTMode(3) or SetMTMode(5), whatever works with QTGMC. I think this is per-project setting.

>Can I edit the automatic ConvertToYV12()
Yes! Method 1 - one-time changes: Double click on the Source filter and edit the Avisynth directly.
Method 2 - custom source filters: Right click on the "Source" filter;
Scroll down to Profiles...
A text editor opens with all your filters in a special, one-filter-per-line format;
Scroll down to the Source section;
Add new source filters, modify existing ones. Go nuts.The syntax takes a little getting used to.
It's easier if you get your Avisynth source scriptlet working outside of StaxRip first, and then
translate it to StaxRip syntax - replace newlines with %newline%, etc.

It sounds like you're describing how to manually crop the sides of a video in the actual crop dialog. I want to set up a template to do this automatically. The usual crop script to crop all sides is:
Crop(%crop_left%,%crop_top%,-%crop_right%,-%crop_bottom%)
I tried to change it to crop only the sides like this:
Crop(%crop_left%,-%crop_right%)
But when I run that script, I get the following error:
Script error: Invalid arguments to function "Crop" (C:\Movies\Conversions\Test temp files\Test.avs, Line 7)
Here are the crop arguments from the script file:
Crop(0,0, -Width % 8,-Height % 8)
Crop(20,-0)
Any ideas on how to correct this?

Crop(%crop_left%,%crop_top%,-%crop_right%,-%crop_bottom%)
I tried to change it to crop only the sides like this:
Crop(%crop_left%,-%crop_right%)
But when I run that script, I get the following error:
Script error: Invalid arguments to function "Crop" (C:\Movies\Conversions\Test temp files\Test.avs, Line 7)
Here are the crop arguments from the script file:
Crop(0,0, -Width % 8,-Height % 8)
Crop(20,-0)
Any ideas on how to correct this?
i dont have staxrip arround so i cannot test what you are saying but in fact you have to manually edit the crop function and after that save the template...
