@flebber
Maybe putting it in a function in a avsi file in the auto loading plugin dir or in a custom macro which can be defined at Tools > Settings > General > Advanced > Custom Macros or putting it in a file in the settings dir and then use a macro for the settings dir path to import the file using the Import function. You can open the settings dir under Tools > Directories > Settings. You could also put it directly in the filter profiles splitting new lines using the %newline% macro.

Forum rules - last revision 10/25/2009
Welcome to Doom9's forum. In order to make your stay as pleasant and constructive as possible please take your time to read through this document, it will help you navigate the pits and traps this community has created for new members ;) These rules can be changed without notice though normally we announce changes via announcement in all the forums.
1) Read up before asking! There are tons of guides, FAQs and each forum has a dedicated Q&A thread with additional info.
1a) Use the search function before posting. Chances are your question has already been answered.
2) Respect the netiquette: Lurk and get to know the forum before you post.
3) Keep the focus: Questions outside the scope of a certain forum will either be moved, locked or simply be deleted.
4) Be nice to each other and respect the moderator. Profanity and insults will not be tolerated. If you have a problem with another member turn to the respective moderator and if the moderator can't help you send a private message to Doom9.
5) Do not spam. No blatant advertising.
6) No warez, cracks, serials or illegally obtained copyrighted content! Links to content of a questionable nature (e.g. anything you don't own and/or have downloaded), asking for, offering, or asking for help/helping to process such content in any way or form is not tolerated.
7) Keep the size of personal images down.
8) No cross posting. Post your message once, to the appropriate forum and nowhere else or it will be locked or deleted without warning.
9) Use a title that describes the content of your post. Don't use all caps or special characters to draw attention.
10) Do not send questions pertaining to topics of discussion on this board via personal messages or email to Moderators or Admins, they will be ignored.
11) Don't post just to increase your number of posts. If you have nothing to say on a certain matter then don't post. The number of posts on this board has no direct relation to the experience of a member.
12) How NOT to post on this forum:
5 minutes after your initial post you reply to your own post writing something like "Why is nobody helping me? I'm sure you know the answer". Once somebody replies to your thread but doesn't give you exactly the answer you've been expecting you insult them.
Do not ask "what's best" because this question cannot be answered objectively. Each and everyone has their own view about what's best in a certain area. The best is what works best for you!
13) The official language is English. Outside the translator forum English is the only allowed language.
14) Multiple registrations are prohibited and are grounds for immediate account deletion.
15) Political discussion not directly related to DVD backup issues are prohibited, as is any discussion on religion and religious matters.
16) Instructions by the moderator team are to be followed.
17) No discussion about the rules or their interpretation.
The interpretation of these rules is solely up to the owner of this forum and can change at any time without prior notice. If you're unsure about what constitutes a breach of a rule, ask a member of the moderator squad or refer to the most recent precedent in the forum (though since interpretation can change, we cannot guarantee that any precedent you may find still applies so in order to be on the safe side, ask a moderator if the precedent still applies).
If you don't comply with these rules you'll have to face a set of sanctions.
A note about attachments: Each attachment has to be validated by a moderator to ensure no unwanted content is being posted. Therefore your attachments won't be visible immediately after you upload, but only after a moderator has checked them which can take some time.
Last but not least there's a thread that you should read which explains how to best get started if you're new around here: Welcome / How to post a question

Hi to everybody interested.
I can claim that I was able to encode perfectly a VC-1 stream with StaxRip using eac3to and FFMS2 as suggested by MultiTask.

Including FFMS2 functions in StaxRip would be really appreciated...
For now I hesitate since it would add 2 MB but I further evaluate it, it should also be possible to use DirectShowSource for VC-1 in StaxRip. What I did though is adding FFVideoSource as filter profile but only in case the plugin is located in the AviSynth auto loading plugin directory. Same is true for DGSource and DGMultiSource. When the filter profiles are generated these profiles will only be added when the plugins is present.

Your application is able to deal with interlaced VC-1 streams?

I don't know what its approach is. I have encoded 2 movies using RipBot264 and had problems with audio sync with the both of them.
I then tried to encode one of those movies using StaxRip (eac3to and ffms2) and had no problem with sync. I'm not a guru in video encoding but I guess there's something wrong in encoding method RipBot264 uses. These are generic clauses I know and I should provide details about all the stuff but I encoded lots of movies with StaxRip and had really no such problem ever.

@myksto
using DirectShow as source in .avs script introduces problems with frame accurate decoding
FFMS2 Compatibility
AVI, MKV, MP4, FLV: Frame accurate
WMV: Frame accurate(?) but avformat seems to pick keyframes relatively far away
OGM: Frame accurate(?)
VOB, MPG: Seeking seems to be off by one or two frames now and then
M2TS, TS: Seeking seems to be off a few frames here and there
Image files: Most formats can be opened if seekmode=-1 is set, no animation support

And so??
I'm sorry but I'm not a guru. :(
You mean I had problems with audio sync because of directshow well known frame accuracy problems used by RipBot? Or what else?
Thanks...
MuLTiTaSK
10th January 2010, 22:06
@myksto
possible but i cant really say cause i dont know the approach taken to encode by RB264
FFMS2 is very accurate with the containers listed above and the reason you had no sync issues

Encoding is a linear process so you don't need frame accurate access! Frame accurate access is required if you want to use AviSynth MT (SetMTMode)

StaxRip is such an awesome program, and I use it a great deal. Thanks so much for all the work you put into it!
I have a couple questions:
1) Using StaxRip with x264, if, instead of resizing your video, say to 720x400 for 16:9, you keep the video at 720x480 and tell the mkv to display it as 16:9, will this result in a higher quality video, though at the cost of increased bitrate?
2) Are you sure that a 55% compressibility check is optimal? In the 55% compressibility check encodes that I've done, the resulting videos come out at times showing signs of overcompression. A smoothed image where you would expect to find a sharp, detailed image, etc. My encodes thus far have been with the "speed" setting set to medium. Or maybe setting it to slow or slower would help the quality?

Why not close it if you don't use it? Regarding LINQBridge, it's probably to late to consider using it. Do you know which version of the .NET Framework is included with Win 7, if it's 3.5 then LINQBridge isn't much interesting.

dont resize unless you want to or have to as to hit a certain size or device as far compressibility checks try your next encode with the x264 Film HQ Preset instead of a Two Pass one and see if it works for you cheers

I did two encodes to test out x264 Film HQ, one using that profile (which came out to about 760kbps), and another using a 2-pass encode which came out to 2,112 kbps. In the Film HQ one, forehead creases and walls were noticeably smoother and compressed-looking, while in the much larger version, they looked sharp and crisp. A third encode was done at 55% compressibility, which came out just a few kbps smaller than the Film HQ one, but the two looked about the same.

At the time 50% for x264 was established a long time ago it was similar quality to 60% XviD/DivX which was the recommended value when post processing was used. I've recently changed the assistant to only complain if it's 20% from what is defined in the encoder options.

I always use quality mode set to 20 (is it a good setting?) for my H264 encodings in the encoder properties.
What i'd like to ask you is how I should use the "aimed quality ratio" (maybe the one you've been talking about) that is always set to 50% and that I always set to 95%.
Thanks.

@myksto
Best thing you can do is encode samples and movies with different values and compare the output size and image quality. CRF 18 is 100% quality and this result in large files. I always use crf values between 20 and 24, depends on various factors but mostly on the image size, small image > 20-22, large image > 22-24.

Do you have version 1141? If so then I forgot to reset the main menu, you can do this in three different ways, do you know one of them? I can't help with the command shell unless somebody built a console app with my code, 100 lines simple VB.NET code, should take less an hour to port.
Yes, I'm using version 1141. I've found the option to reset the menu and it works now. It doesn't demux the attachments though.
