love the program, works a treat,
just a quick question, but is there anyway to override the mod16 enforcement on the XviD settings, I'm wanting to encode to 704x396 and 720x404, its just rejecting the res outputs, ive tried to find an option to allow me to do this, but cant find anything, any help would be appricated

thank you, couldnt find it at first till i twigged i needed to upgrade XD
thanks for the help
for reference, the VS filter included in this release is out of date for what some fansubbers use, dont know if you want to upgrade that or not, but I have to replace it to ensure the subs i encode come out right, new version is bundled in with aegisub 2.1.7

Hey you :),
Is it possible for you to give a guide on how to add watermark to a video using staxrip? I've found a couple post about it, but I still can't figure it out. Can you help?

about preview and cutting function (F5):
Is it possible to display the video at the Preview in 8bit mode? Specially when you have to edit a H264 (.TS) file? It will be more accurate and fast to browse in the video, to mark and cut it..

Hmmm, strange new issue
My AVS script states
Spline36Resize(720,404)
yet when loaded in stax, it overrides this to 720 x 400
Even with the mod set to something else, it just defaults to this value,
Any idea why it would be doing this?
Edit: Thanks for the link to the new vsfilter, didnt even realise a new version was out

I've uploaded a new test built supporting DGSource which was running completely stable so far. Thanks to Neuron2, Multitask and Zathor for helping.
http://www.filedropper.com/staxrip1143
Sorry that I cannot reply on every issue, there is a increased amount of feedback I receive, not only here but also by Mail and in the german forum. The amount of popular formats and tools is increasing, it becomes difficult to deal with everything.

That's exactly why you should not hurry to start adding new stuff like crazy Stax, StaxRip is known for the things it does, it does them perfectly fine. I'd rather have 50 options which all work than 100 options of which only 20 work.
Once again, :thanks: for this wonderful tool.

your needs dont stay the same forever do they?
Your correct MuLTiTaSK, and thanks to your fantastic support StaxRip is maturing steadily :), but it's still a 1-man projects AFAIK,
so it's better to implement 1 feature at a time, so the known StaxRip guarentee "Working great out-of-the-box" remains, and it will not head the MeGUI way where so many things were halfly implemented and the developers lost track of all the open bugs.
We can be glad we have guys like Stax76 & MuLTiTaSK in the encoder world.:)

we just have to make sure what StaxRip does it does it correctly and we will be fine
all feedback from StaxRip users helps stax76 use his gifts and we need to support him the same way he's been supporting us for many years:)
sharing information is vital to better all the video community
thanks for the kind words;)

Maybe I should write a bit about the biggest issues, in the past you had mostly MPEG-2 with 2-3 audio formats. You could simply demux all tracks and use DGMPGDec to load the video in AviSynth. Things have become more difficult since there are different containers like when you rip with MakeMKV you get MKV and if you use AnyDVD you get M2TS though eac3to could mux to MKV. There can be many different source and target audio formats, some might want to cut so decoding is needed for formats that cannot be cut, there are other issues like delay, some audio streams are huge so it might not be desired to demux all of them, it might not even be desired to demux a single one but rather convert directly with a tool capable of doing this like eac3to. There are large and difficult changes required like stream selection preventing the need to demux large audio streams from mkv/m2ts prior job pressing. It's difficult since everything needs to be streamlined and there are a lot possible formats. There are different ways things can be done and it's difficult to support many different ways, to find out which ways work best, to decide which presets and automation to use and to guess what the user is trying to achieve. There are 3 different video codecs possible in Blu-ray and different tools to decode them, DGMPGDec, DGDecNV, DirectShowSource, ffms2. Adding more formats and tools is difficult to do, adds new bugs and breaks old features, causes things to be more difficult to maintain, harder to learn and use, harder to support etc. so Betsy25 makes a good point saying less is more, on the other side users like Multitask want to use new formats and faster tools and Blu-ray is obviously important.

@ Multitask,
True words, true words....
@Stax76
That's the point, less is more. But what to put in?
For me intergration of NV Tools is absolutly the number one, because this would be a big encoding speed improvment.
Second is the impementation of blue ray, cause DVD is going to die.
I think eac3to would be the right tool for the most Blue Ray jobs. Subtitles are litle tricky, the only tool i know is BDSup2Sub.
Btw. I just tested the new release with a DVD source.
NV tools working fine, but when i do a compcheck with a non Mod 16 resulution ( in my case mod 4), StaxRip crashes after compcheck is finished. <----Sorry i forgot, i'm talking about x264
But... cool down, your are not Dr. Kimble on the run :)

the most important benefit of having DGDecNV support in StaxRip is proper frame accurate video decoding of AVC and VC1 streams and now we have it cause of stax76;)

Hey you :),
Is it possible for you to give a guide on how to add watermark to a video using staxrip? I've found a couple post about it, but I still can't figure it out. Can you help?
adding watermark while ripping (http://www.videohelp.com/forum/archive/adding-watermark-while-ripping-t368704.html)

@Multitask
I tried that, but it still changing the res i specified in AVS
If i load the source material into stax without the use of avs and set a resize it allows me to specify 720x404
It just seems to be when i load it from AVS and have it specified to a non mod16 res, any mod16 res i input it works fine, its like its forcing mod16 on it even though i specified a mod8 option and set it to mod8

Possible to increase the limit length of names?
Are you getting the file length error when using the GUI? I get it when trying to use the CLI. When I shorten the filename I get a different error from DGIndex, and will post details in a separate reply.

I am really impressed with the auto crop features of StaxRip, good work! 1.1.4.3 works great for me from the GUI, but I want to use the CLI and cannot get StaxRip to work from the command-line interface. I created a simple template and call it like this:
StaxRip.exe -t:HD2MKV "TEST 1080i.mpg" -e -exit
But DGIndex displays the following error:
Couldn't open input file in HIDE mode! Exiting.
The DGIndex command line looks wrong to me:
"C:\Program Files\StaxRip\Applications\DGIndex\DGIndex.exe" -i "TEST 1080i.mpg" -ia 2 -fo 0 -yr 1 -tn 1 -om 2 -drc 2 -dsd 0 -dsa 0 -o "TEST 1080i.mpgTEST 1080i temp files\\TEST 1080i" -hide -exit
I can call DGIndex manually with a valid command-line and it works fine in Hide mode, so it looks like StaxRip is not calling DGIndex correctly from the CLI. I can do the same encode fine from the GUI. Is the CLI working for anyone else? Thanks!

Just tell me the source and target format you want and if you know it how the transcoding is ideally performed.
but when i do a compcheck with a non Mod 16 resulution ( in my case mod 4), StaxRip crashes after compcheck is finished.
I couldn't reproduce this.
@Maeggor
Maybe it's possible to install the .NET version found in the readme file.
yet when loaded in stax, it overrides this to 720 x 400
What exactly do you mean with this?
StaxRip.exe -t:HD2MKV "TEST 1080i.mpg" -e -exit
That's only a filename or a relative path if you want, relative paths aren't officially supported, you have to use absolute paths.

Thanks, I did remove -hide, but DGIndex still just sits there not doing anything because the path on the command being passed to it is wrong - "C:\Program Files\StaxRip\Applications\DGIndex\DGIndex.exe" -i "TEST 1080i.mpg" -ia 2 -fo 0 -yr 1 -tn 1 -om 2 -drc 2 -dsd 0 -dsa 0 -o "TEST 1080i.mpgTEST 1080i temp files\\TEST 1080i" -exit

Command Line Help
StaxRip uses a similar command line syntax as the .NET framework tools as it simplifies development and usage. The arguments are processed sequentially in the order they appear in the command line so it would be fatal to put the shutdown switch before the encode switch or to put the source files after the encode switch. Don't forget to enclose strings containing blanks with quotes and ensure to study the examples at the bottom of this page.
Many of the available switches might not be useful from the command line, the reason why these switches are available is they are provided by StaxRip's command engine that is also used for customizable menu's and event commands.
Basic Switches
-encode, -e
Creates a job and runs the job list.
-exit
Exits StaxRip
-help, -h, -?
Opens the command line help.
-shutdown
Shuts PC down.
-standby
Puts PC in standby mode.
-template:< As String>
-t:< As String>
Loads a template.
Examples
StaxRip C:\Movie\project.rip
StaxRip "C:\Movie 2\project.rip"
StaxRip "C:\Movie 2\VTS_01_1.VOB"
StaxRip "C:\Movie 2\VTS_01_1.VOB" "C:\Movie 2\VTS_01_2.VOB"
StaxRip -template:DVB "C:\Movie 2\capture.mpg" -encode -standby
StaxRip -template:"beware of blanks" "C:\Movie 2\VTS_01_1.VOB" "C:\Movie 2\VTS_01_2.VOB" -encode -shutdown
StaxRip -Perform/ShowMessageBox:"beware of blanks",title,info
StaxRip -Perform/ShowMessageBox:no_blanks_no_quotes,"wasted_quotes",info
StaxRip -Perform/ShowMessageBox:no_blanks_no_quotes,nothingToWaste,info
StaxRip -perform/showmessagebox:"Windows and VB don't care about case, Unix and C do",title, info

Blu-ray workflow in StaxRip ideas:
load Blu-ray folder or .m2ts scan source with eac3to StaxRip then processes the info from eac3to then either joins video tracks for seamless branching Blu-ray Discs (bit.ly/5s8dkW), demux video track to raw .h264, .vc1 , mux to .mkv or skip video to index with DGIndexNV, FFMS2, DDS, DSS2 handle audio only like demux core tracks -core, convert to .flac, .m4a etc depending on what settings users set in StaxRip

@MuLTiTaSK
That don't seem to be compatible with StaxRip's audio handling. In StaxRip you have a audio source file, static command line based profiles and new dynamic GUI based profiles and in case a profile cannot handle the input format or cutting is used a intermediate conversion is performed. Here you don't have files but playlists and the only tool that can work on these playlists is the one that generated the playlist, eac3to. Currently I don't have a interest to develop a GUI for this playlist handling or try to integrate it with StaxRip's audio handling, maybe I develop a interest later. Greif's stream extractor is IIRC already included, it's in the eac3to folder and I'll make it available from Tools > Launch. It makes more sense to investigate MKV handling, currently everybody is using AnyDVD and eac3to to handle title extraction simply because these tools were available first and people develop habits quickly and easily. I don't have any habits yet and with my limited experience MakeMKV seems to be much better plus fits in StaxRip's audio handling because you have regular file, only thing that's new is that it can contain multiple streams, that's difficult to support but possible. Besides that MKV is a much better container supporting more formats, rich meta data and has little overhead, I've heard m2ts overhead is insane, that's one of the reasons I'm resistant to add m2ts output but favor MKV which is DivX Plus compatible which I fully support because I think it's great to have play MKV in the web browser and mkv compatible Blu-ray players and streaming players. Also people at DivX try their best to support my GUI and the encoding community and so do I with DivX. MakeMKV should be much faster. Also I didn't get an reply from SlySoft (requested 2 days before) to sponsor me a AnyDVD license, not that it's a problem since MakeMKV appear to be a much better solution anyway.

Maybe not a good reason, I'm not sure if there is a benefit for StaxRip in Len0x's modifications, they seemed to be AutoGK specific which seem to use autocrop in a different way iirc, might even break things so until somebody posts a good reason I'm not gonna update it.
Thanks, I will stick with 1.1 then.

i would suggest the makemkv route.
it's free (now) and easy to integrate. Only one MKV output file, and easy to process with eac3to (for extraction audio tracks)
don't try to use tsmuxer for demuxing audio from mkv since it has some problem with dts and other audio format

When I click on Filters, a menu appears listing the source filters: automatic, mpeg-2, mpeg-2 deblocked, avc,...
But there's also a sub menu named advanced containing more or less (labels are a bit different) the same source filters. Is there a difference between selecting a filter from the main menu or from the advanced one?

Thank you stax76 and MuLTiTaSK - I did get the CLI working by adding the full path to the input file. I normally reduce the frame rate of 720p to 29.97, but the only place I find frame rate mentioned is the %target_framerate% macro. Do I need to create a filter to reduce 59.94 to 29.97? Thanks!
