When I click on Filters, a menu appears listing the source filters: automatic, mpeg-2, mpeg-2 deblocked, avc,...
But there's also a sub menu named advanced containing more or less (labels are a bit different) the same source filters. Is there a difference between selecting a filter from the main menu or from the advanced one?
Only difference is the items on top level are newbie friendly, I consider to remove the newbie friendly items since StaxRip has become too advanced and the Automatic option should be fine for most common tasks and newbies.
Thank you stax76 and MuLTiTaSK - I did get the CLI working by adding the full path to the input file. I normally reduce the frame rate of 720p to 29.97, but the only place I find frame rate mentioned is the %target_framerate% macro. Do I need to create a filter to reduce 59.94 to 29.97? Thanks!
In the Field filter category there is SelectEven() which will half the framerate, I'm not sure if it must be put in the source filter or if it can be in a separate filter or if both work and which is better or if it don't matter. just try it and let us know if it causes any problems.

Thanks again, stax76. SelectEven does work as a separate filter for me. That sounds like a deinterlace filter, but works for this purpose too.
I was going to stop asking questions now, but that reminds me that I saw the Decomb plugin installed, but I don't see an obvious way to use it?

You can find the Decomb help file in the applications or task dialog, it shows you which filters it provides, it provides field processing filters so the filters can be found in the Field category of the filter profiles.

delete StaxRip "Settings.bin" you were using on XP then run StaxRip.exe on Windows 7
It's still confusing which code do I use? And what color does the background have to be for transparencies? Also, does it have to be bitmap?

I see in 1.1.4.3, new "AAC VBR ~64 kbps" option as your default
I'm curious why you change the default from 96 (q 0.3) to 64 (q 0.2)?
Isn't q 0.3 already low enough? (I usually use q 0.4)
Thanks

I agree. Maybe something like automatic in the top menu and other options in a "manual" (or advanced) submenu

There are two reasons, first is 64 and 96 resulted in little difference in my listening test, I don't have very good ear phones though. The second reason is StaxRip uses x264's crf default 23, that it pretty low too so matches well with the 64 which is pretty low as well. 64 audio should be better than 23 video, both good enough for me in most cases, for smaller resolutions 23 is bad of course.

I am trying to encode a BD with StaxRip and DGToolsNV. I have created the .dgi file and imported as source in StaxRip. When I try to manually crop and exit, the windows stays there and StaxRip stops responding, with a minimum ~10% CPU occupation. Any idea of what is it doing? ;)
Please fix this bug, I wouldn't use RipBot again ;)

I'm using the latest build 1.1.4.3 with DG NV tools build 2003 and I'm having trouble using the gpu deinterlacer. I've set the following options under profiles: DGSource = DGSource("%source_file%",deinterlace=1,resize_w=0,resize_h=0). When I look at the avs file it creates after it runs DGNVIndex it still shows deinterlace=0. I've tried to change the script manually as well as through "Show File-Avisynth Script", but as soon as it begins processing it still shows deinterlace=0. I like Yadiff, but I prefer to deinterlace with DG NV tools. Is there an easy way to fix this or am I missing a setting?

No, it only happens when I let StaxRip create the dgi file through DGNVIndex. If I index it myself and import the avs script all is fine.

If you use the source filter Automate then StaxRip will automatically generate a source filter. If you want to use a particular filter profile then you have to choose that, right-click the source filter, choose your profile, optionally save a template, open the source.

You should use build build 1.1.4.3, when you install this build it will save your profiles to backup.
So when you start staxrip and right click profiles to edit you will see your old profiles under backup, just copy and paste to relevant category and your set :)

I'm investing quite a lot effort to migrate settings since I'm very aware that it's a pain to lose settings especially for people who made many custom profiles and templates. Sometimes it's hard to migrate things, sometimes too hard and sometimes the migration has bugs. So you would first backup your settings directory, then try a new version and if you lose something important or have problems give me feedback. Often there is a menu item called Backup where you can find templates and profiles from the previous version and since the menus are customizable you can move things outside of the backup menu but before doing this you should take a very close look since you cannot trust the migration working perfectly.

Hi stax,
Not sure if its a bug, but when I go to the JAVA "Application" screen, it says "Application not found", but I do have it installed. Tried it on 2 PC and same problem.
Running Windows 7 With Java 6 Update 18 (Latest), Staxrip 1.1.3
And yes I've restarted my PC. Does this mean ProjectX won't work?

Hi,
Since a long time I'm trying to do something in StaxRip, but until today I still don't know how to do it :
Example : I have a 20 minute MKV video file, and I want to remux it into a 2 minutes MKV file, I don't want to re-encode it, just remux it, I just want to choose a part of the video. So as usual I do this :
- I add the MKV source file.
- I choose "Just Mux" as video codec, and MKV container.
- In audio I also choose "Just mux"
- I cut the video (and it works cause it shows me "2 minutes" next to "length").
But the encoding process doesn't work completely, cause the final video is still a 20 minutes (and 700mo, it's a 1280x720) video, but the sound was cut, cause the video contains only the sound of the part I chose.
Is there any way to remux a part of a MKV video without having to reecode it using the "x264" codec.
Thanks.
PS : Sorry for my average English, I'm French.
PS 2 : I'm using StaxRip 1.1.3.0

@Bilskate
I've added now partly support, there will be option in the muxing config dialog called Split at cut points when just muxing, if it's enabled then --splitt will be used, if it's not enabled then StaxRip uses the current behavior which is try to cut audio unless the filename contains _Cutting (file was already cut be StaxRip). There are two issues, first is it's not frame accurate since mkvmerge can only split at key frames, second is only split is done so you have to delete not needed output files and append needed output files (hopefully not hard with mmg) if multiple cut points were used. I think about doing the appending part too.

I know I keep saying this, but can you add watermark support? I think it would be a great feature that none of the other video software has, which will make staxrip more unique.
I finally figured out how to do this by adding a couple filters and download a plugin, but honestly its been a hassle trying to figure out which each line of code represents without a GUI.
I use this plugin here: http://neuron2.net/logo/logo.html
If you like, I can show you how I did it with staxrip. But I'm sure you can figure that out yourself :)

a quality slider possible to adjust it's percentage?
I don't have 2pass experience and I'm not sure if it would make sense so I would need a detailed description.

Are you saying installing this .NET version fixed the problem, I cannot imagine this, it would be a big issue since a lot people would run into it.
I know I keep saying this, but can you add watermark support?
Please use dedicated threads for anything uncommon like watermark, there are already more common issues than I can cope with.

if you want to use a 64bit build of x264 with StaxRip follow this simple workaround
Download ->avs4x264.exe (bit.ly/8D2vRi)
rename avs4x264.exe to x264.exe
rename the 64bit x264.exe your using to x264_64.exe
place them in the same folder
x264.exe->x264_64.exe
continue using x64 builds of x264;)

It works here and without detailed description I can't make any changes, the point of 2 pass is using a fixed file size so adjusting the file size according the quality is pointless, well maybe somebody can describe a scenario where it isn't pointless, for such a scenario I would need a detailed description.
MuLTiTaSK
25th January 2010, 21:14
@stax76
2passes with a aimed quality is not pointless
it actually yields better results for me then just running a quick blinded -crf encode
i want control over my encoding process
i usally encode with a Aimed Quality percentage of 80-100 with -crf 17 being 100% quality
quality being the most important factor
after i run compressibility check i adjust the quality according to the compressibility of source
i encode my backups to quality then store my disks away simple does it;)

hello
I've been using staxrip since 2005 I believe
I'm very pleased with it, except one section
the audio
enocding audio has always been my problem
a couple of years ago, when on planetdvb, stax put the section [audio] in filters and nicaudio decoding
then somehow the code broke
now it has been partly fixed (when cutting, audiodub should go up in the avs, right after MPEG2Source, so as to get audio processing done right inside avisynth)
my question is: stax, why don't you implement stdout to encode audio and use avisynth's audio processing? on the fly conversion without intermediate files is the best way, isn't it?
keep up the good work
