I tried to export the x264 profiles from the 1.1.1.0 version but could not do it. I usually use the unrestricted 2 pass balanced, HQ, Extra quality and rarely the 2 pass fast and the 2 pass insane. Well what I can do is to add new profiles in 1.1.1.9 and copy the settings from the 1.1.1.0 manually.
But since the 1.1.1.9 beta version has the autocrop failure problem I see no reason to enter such trouble.
Also the autocrop problem emerges when the source file is .ts AVC x576 file. HD frame size files don't have that problem...

So I shall look in the x264 official page for x264 presets or are they created by independent users? I could import them to Staxrip or shall I have to add them manually?

There are list controls in the x264 dialog where you can select presets and tunings.

No thanks, I should have such a file.

Description is a bit confusing, please elaborate.

Sorry, I was in a hurry writing it. Funny thing is, I cannot reproduce it now and did lots of encodes. So I guess it must have been my fault and I set anything wrong.

So I shall look in the x264 official page for x264 presets or are they created by independent users?

Just select the speed with the preset setting and the type of video you encode with the tuning (e.g. film, animation).

PS: In the thread title and on the Sourceforge page you link to 1.1.1.8, although 1.1.1.9 has been released. Is there any reason why one should use 1.1.1.8 and not 1.1.1.9?

w4tt4n4b3
15th October 2009, 15:11
I noticed the presets yesterday but thanks for the thumbnail-screenshot, mate. because I am so attached to the 1.1.1.0 version I created manually some new profiles and added them to the 1.1.1.9 version and saved them...
But I will experiment with the presets of the 1.1.1.9.
I always choose 2 pass because I want to dictate the size of the produced file. I am in position to guess the size if I use quality mode.

One reason for me not to use the 1.1.1.9 is that just a minute ago the autocrop function failed while the same file loaded on the 1.1.1.0 was autocropped... It may sound weird but it is a reality.

Hello Stax
a question please.
i recording from DVB-S in Mpg format.
by preparing the mpg in staxrip the video and audio was split by ProjectX.
in V 1.1.1.6 and 1.1.1.7 this is not possible because of the commandLine

"%application:Java%" -jar "%application:ProjectX%" %source_files_blank% -out "%working_dir%"

Do you agree to change the Commandline into

"%application:Java%" -jar "%application:ProjectX%" %source_files% -out "%working_dir%"

maybe fixed meanwhile.
i am not sure.
will test 1.1.1.9 beta tomorrow

thanks

p.s. great job man

Staxrip only ignites your encoder, so if your encoder (x264, xvid) supports them, then it will work just fine in Staxrip. x264 certainly does multi-core, not sure about xvid.

Just a question about the AAC encoding.

I encoded a 3min clip with both AAC 110-150kbps & AAC 5.1 200-250kbps , but the results seem really weird :

Using AAC 110-150kbps
Audio = 3.68 MB

Using AAC 5.1 200-250kbps
Audio = 1.96 MB

.... While I expected the AAC 5.1 to actually be larger, it's only 50% the size of the former one

MediaInfo tells me about :
AAC 110-150kbps
ID : 2
Format : AAC
Format/Info : Advanced Audio Codec
Format version : Version 4
Format profile : LC
Format settings, SBR : No
Codec ID : 40
Duration : 2mn 46s

Maximum bit rate : 204 Kbps
Channel(s) : 2 channels
Channel positions : L R
Sampling rate : 48.0 KHz

I am going to assume you don't know about HE-AAC do you? Yeah I do not know how staxrip did a HE-AAC doing a AAC 5.1 I have no Idea but reason its smaller is because staxrip encoded the AAC into SBR AAC look in ur media info u weren't reading. the 2nd one indicates that its SBR AAC. Point is HE-AAC (SBR AAC) tend to lower AAC by around 20-80% of the original and keep the quality the same (debatable). Anyways u encoded unknowingly to HE-AAC. It is confusing why did it encode to HE-AAC stax?

This is all fine and dandy but some of us like the old MeGUI profiles and wish to continue using them. So how do we put them back? Simply clicking on the Encoder Profiles and attempting to import them doesn't work.

I just noticed that you cannot change rc-lookahead. If you try to change it away from the standard it just adds a command with the standard value (if you change it from standard 40 to 50 or to 30 it adds -rc-lookahead 40 to the command line).

I also just noticed that noise reduction does not work either. No matter what you select for noise reduction, it does not appear in the command line.

Incompatible maybe no, but the profiles may no longer provide the results you expect as some options have been updated or removed and new features and default settings added or changed.

A good list of options for x264 settings under new version see the megui wiki http://mewiki.project357.com/wiki/X264_Settings it does a good job of showing all the changes.

As I dont know, whether the Stax76Forum is still active I post it here also:
I have been using Staxrip for a long time very succesfully.
As I am now recording more and more HDTV captures 720p ( > 10GB files) I have a problem in the preview for cutting. It stops with the error: CAVIStreamSynth: System exception - access Violation at 0x6fb77ef1, reading from 0x31. I have to close and open preview a nummber of times and advance the pointer until I reach the desired time point, which is not always successful. One solution is to encode as is and cut later.
This is independent of the Stax version(presently 1.119.)

And when I encode with the "default" settings for x264 the program aborts with the message X264 Encoder failed with exit code 3. When I use AutoX264 on the same ts-file it encodes properly.
The ts-files are streams created by dvbviewer (latest version).

Lupissimo

No, I did not. Thank you for the hint. I have now cut the stream using h264ts_cutter which looks like a very nice program! If I now run Staxrip on the cut stream I get the same "CAVIStreamSynth: System exception - access Violation at 0x6fb77ef1, reading from 0x31" message when I run an xvid compressibility check!

I made some Templates for VFR in MKV (x264, DivX and XviD)

Instructions:

1. Extract all files.

2. Copy "Decomb521VFR.dll" to Staxrip Folder\Applications\AviSynth plugins\

3. Copy "x264/DivX/XviD VFR.rip" to Staxrip Folder\Templates\

4. Run Staxrip, go to Profiles > Container > Edit menu, click on Import and select "MKV VFR.srp"

5. Now go to Profiles > Filter Setup > Edit menu, click on Import and select "Default Filter VFR.srp"

6. Enjoy x264/DivX/XviD Variable Frame Rate Automatization on Staxrip

Usage:

Its very simple, run staxrip, select x264/DivX/XviD VFR template, open a video and wait for Decimate VFR Analysis and finally just encode.

http://img96.imageshack.us/img96/4479/decimate.jpg

Note: VFR is possible in MKV container with timecodes settings only, don't touch the container settings if you don't know what are you doing ;D

Stax76 can you add this templates to staxrip?

@w4tt4n4b3: I tried with and without using h264ts cutter => no difference. To me it looks as if Staxrip ( or the used subprograms ) cannot cope properly with HDTV streams. Using "autox264" I can encode the streams using default settings of the x264 codec. Encoding SDTV everything works perfectly with Staxrip. So I hope somebody can straighten this out, as HDTV will become more popular.

The reason for CAVIStreamSynth: System exception - access Violation and autocrop failing should be the AVCSource filter, I don't know about it's current and future development, using DirectShowSource or DSS2 with DirectShow AVC decoder might work better, it can be customized in StaxRip, I don't have experience with it other than basic tests since I'm not a HD user.

My video will come out at 480x240, which looks wrong. The source is 1280x720.

@Lupissimo

It crashes x264 but if you open the preview and frame step it crashes StaxRip too with the same runtime exception, this means DGAVCDEC is causing the exception since I hadn't used any other filter. You might check if StaxRip uses the latest DGAVCDEC version, try a newer version if available, ask the DGAVCDEC author if it don't help, configure StaxRip to use a DirectShow decoder instead of DGAVCDEC if he can't help.

Yes

could you please give a hint how to incorporate a DirectShow?

It's a bit difficult, you can disable DGAVCIndex in the options under 'Preparation' or you can change the DGAVCIndex preparer removing the video output file type so it will just demux but not change the source file.

You can define any source filter with any configuration but StaxRip will correct errors automatically, use DirectShowSource for unknown types etc.

:) By disabling the 2 DGAVCIndex lines under preparations it works! BUT: it is 10x slower encoding (2.5fps).

Would using FFMS2 (not knowing what it is !)help as stated here: http://forum.doom9.org/showpost.php?p=1338199&postcount=1889

And if , how can I include it in Staxrip?

I'm not sure if FFMS2 is that fast, maybe it's possible to use a dshow decoder with DXVA, if you have a newer nvidia card you could also use NV tools, should be fast but costs 15€ I think. You have to edit the source filter in StaxRip, in the first post of this thread there is a link to a tutorial telling how to use AviSynth filters in StaxRip.

I totally spaced on the place where I can type my own resize value in, I replaced the % in the resize function with Lanczos4resize(480,272) and all is gravy. :)

Is there an option I am missing to tell it to do two jobs at a time from the job queue instead of one? Since doing high profile x264 ---> baseline profile low res x264 doesn't utilize the quad too much, but two encodes at a time would get it up there.

Thanks again for this awesome program. :)
