so is there a way to import the configuration or
settings?

To try again, when StaxRip don't find settings it asks where to create new settings or load old settings.

@BellesFesses

If the latest version gives this warning using default settings the please upload a sample.

Edit: One additional question just arose with 1.9.0.0: Is it no longer possible to use an already installed YUV-codec? I have K-Lite installed with a YUV-codec. With 1.8.0.0 StaxRip used to ask which to use (ffshow or another, I do not remember, I guess huffyuv). And why not use Helix YUV 1.3? (Though according to the changelog the only difference is the supported resolution up to 8192².)

I've changed code in this regard because many prefer LAV Filters, ffdshow should still be recognized as YV12 decoder, maybe it don't work because of the codec pack. I guess I missed the newest Helix version.

But it would be nicer to have that either documented or even a button.

Some things are better prohibited or at least hidden.

What is faster, the Helix YV12 decoder or FFDshow? I got a feeling with the latest FFDshow installed that using the FFDshow YV12 decoder is faster.

mmm... this is weird... can you post a screenshot of audio encoding configuration?... besides do you use ffdshow or maybe a codec pack?...

Hi fantasmanegro,

Sorry I have not responded any sooner ... just saw your post.

Fantasmanegro, I do have ffdshow, I am running v1.14257, I believe I went back to this since the newer versions were giving me some kind problem, can't recall what though.

Also, since thru my readings most experts recommend Not to install any kind of Codec Packs ... I have never bothered with Codec Pack of any kind. I do have some XviD, AviSynth and other regular stuff that you need to run some Video proggies.

BTW, I did also download 1.1.8.0 from SourceForge ...same thing.

So, I see Stax76 has released 1.1.9.0 ... so, I will just try that.

Thanks!

G! :)

no problem, ... just one question... by no audio you mean that there is an audio channel/track with no wave or not audio file is muxed to video file?

Thank you so much for your answer Stax 76,

You can see MediaInfo on my previous post. My original HD file is 2.91Go and made with a Z10 Panasonic Lumix Camera. They call it AVCHD lite. Extension is .MTS

Some things are better prohibited or at least hidden.

Thank you so much Stax 76 for your answer. :thanks:

Please look at the MediaInfo uploaded on my previous post.

The HD file is 2.91Go and made with a Panasonic Z10 Lumix Camera. The format is called AVCHD lite and consists in

Container ? :
Format : BDAV
Format/Info : Blu-ray Video
Video :
Format : AVC
Format profile : High@L4.0
Codec ID : 27
Audio :
Format : AC-3
Codec ID : 129

I do not know how to cut and make a sample  with this format. Please indicate a guide on how to cut this type of file or maybe give me the info here if you have the time.

I can see you are quite busy and am very grateful for your help :thanks:

EDIT 1 : Found a way to make a sample using tsMuxerGUI.exe and a tuto here avchdvideos.blogspot.fr (http://avchdvideos.blogspot.fr/p/trimming-my-avchd-files.html)

I can't upload 30 seconds sample. I shall try again in second edit ....

How to add "Misc/Convert to YV12" Filter in Staxrip

i can open the file and encode but not in mkv container... i missed the point... what was the question?...

Good morning to all  (please add wave smiley :))

The point fanta is in the title of my posts. I'm losing the thread of my posts so I will recapitulate :

How to add "Misc/Convert to YV12" Filter in Staxrip ? question to : research and fix found on this forum not working du to old version of StaxRip

I am trying to make two video files (maybe one serving both purposes is enough) : one recognised by Facebook upload and a second to be read on a Samsung TV PS51D550 3D. My caméra is a Panasonic Z10 Lumix making AVCHD lite files.

That means change container, here I am guessing, to mp4 or MKV***. Leave video format AVC and change audio AC3 to AAC. I am what you call a newbie. But I hope you may say an alert one :)

***I have tried with MKVmerge but it doesn't work. It seems to make a MKV version 2 file container not recognised on the TV and that is why I switched to StaxRip

POST 1 : original post #4447 (http://forum.doom9.org/showpost.php?p=1635158&postcount=4447) with links to research on this forum and MediaInfo for original file.

I hope all this editing is useful and you catch my purpose. I tried to be as complete as possible. You guys don't have much time and I wouldn't want to abuse your time. I don't usually speak English living in France. So that is maybe a difficulty in getting across ?

Have a great day to you all  (please add  smiley) lol

PS please indulge and feel free to ask any question possible. I am eager to learn ;)

to add this just click on FILTERS -> PROFILES...

and search for [MISC], then add this line

ConvertToYV12 = ConvertToYV12()

the result is like

[Misc]
Assume 25 fps = AssumeFPS(25, 1, true)
Assume 23.976 fps = AssumeFPS(24000, 1001, true)
ConvertToYV12 = ConvertToYV12()

and click on OK button

now you can add this through FILTERS -> INSERT -> MISC

as i said before i could encode your sample with staxrip

How to add "Misc/Convert to YV12" Filter in Staxrip

Hail to all

Thank you Fanta for your kind guidance. Have tried out your method unsuccessfully :

Convert to YV12 through "your profile"
http://img9.imageshack.us/img9/7694/83kh.jpg

Message pops up :
How should MTS-AVC be opened
http://img153.imageshack.us/img153/9522/qgqa.jpg

I chose ffmpeg to start

Same problem Unsupported Color Space :
StaxRip
http://img833.imageshack.us/img833/6273/awv2.jpg

I checked the filter if the added line was still there and yep it was :
[Misc]
Assume 25 fps = AssumeFPS(25, 1, true)
Assume 23.976 fps = AssumeFPS(24000, 1001, true)
ConvertToYV12 = ConvertToYV12()

next I chose DirectShowSource
Failed to open
http://img694.imageshack.us/img694/3157/f3bw.jpg

This is so painful not to succeed. I really thought you had found the way around using "your profile" I am so sorry to bother you.
You said you were able to encode. To what did you encode to ?

If you have any other solution I would be very happy to try. Hope you still have the time. Thanks again for your help :thanks:

Looks like a second post has been deleted  I wrote back this morning using the quick reply and no quote. I had added pictures (5 in all) of all I had done to explain. It's now evening and it still hasn't been published

I don't like complaining but delay between writing and posting is terribly long. And what about the lost posts :(

I was saying this morning that it didn't work again. But I had missed out part of your explanation :
now you can add this through FILTERS -> INSERT -> MISC

Now it seems to be encoding. Another problem is it stops when the computer goes to sleep. I can't stay around and wait. I'm busy and have work to do. Is there an option for StaxRip to keep working even if my computer turns off the screen ?

Hoping my encode will work ... 20% done in 12 hours lol

Thanks again Fanta :thanks: Have a great night :see ya tomorrow: :)

EDIT 1 : threads are too slow to be authorised

My post has been authorised HOURRA !!!

The encode failed around 5 o'clock this morning. I am adding error message and log. If you still have a little time Fanta, could you please see what I did wrong ?

near the end of log there is a text

here says it encoded the file

maybe staxrip does not mux, if you check the temp folder and look for an aac and h264 file... try to mux them

by the way try to use ffmpeg

It seems like MP4Box has no way to demux this file (the file was downloaded from an adult site, it plays flawlessly in all the software players I have installed).

This is not a problem of the latest StaxRip version 1.9.0.0, previous versions had the same issue. I also tried to use different versions of MP4Box and MediaInfo, but the problem did not disappear.

The only way so far to transcode this clip was to convert it to MKV first (using mkvmerge). The MKV file was converted by StaxRip without the slightest problem.

Is there anything I could do to work around this MP4Box issue? Is there a way to force StaxRip to use ffmpeg to demux MP4 files? Under "Tools->Settings->Demuxing" the entry for demuxing MKV, WEBM, MP4 is not editable.

Cheers
manolito

I think I found the problem...:sly:

The stream IDs in the source file are 201 for video and 101 for audio. And these IDs make MP4Box choke.

I found out about this by loading the source file into AviDemux, specifying "Copy" for video and audio and saving the file into an MP4 container with a different file name. This new file had the ID 1 for video and 2 for audio. And guess what... this file was converted by StaxRip without any problems.

This means that I have some new questions:

Are these stream IDs in the original file legal? Obviously the file was created by Lavf54.59.106.

Is there any software which lets me edit stream IDs in MP4 files?

Could StaxRip take care of this problem by correcting stream IDs in MP4 files?

Maybe it's more than just the numbering, the only file I've found with 'Codec ID : mp42' demuxes here so such files should be rare, first I thought it's probably an old file because of the low resolution but the tag date is new and the profile is baseline so I guess it's a mobile version of a clip and there should also be a HD version on the site. If it's really so rare then I don't want to spent time on it and rather suggest the mkvmerge workaround.

@BellesFesses

I never had a NAS so I've no experience how encoding works in such an environment, you can try a local source drive with StaxRip 1.9.0.0 using all default values and send a log file per email if it still fails.

In v1.1.6.0 I could easily configure compressibility check for my xvid encodings. There were 2 options - "Compressibility Check" (to edit codec settings) and "Run Compressibility Check". In later version this options is gone. No matter what codec settings I choose for 1st and 2nd pass - compressibility check always uses its default settings. I tried with choosing another matrix (mpeg instead of h.263) and compared with the file produced by compressibility check - it doesn't take the settings whatever you choose.

Is this a bug produced by versions later than 1.1.6.0 or is this option really gone (so compressibility check is useless when you want to use your own codec settings)?

@AMiR9!WV

There is error handling built in which don't seem to work in your case since it's supposed to show a more detailed error description (stack trace) and it's supposed to instruct mailing me the error description. You can try the version released yesterday and mail me the log file in case there is one.

i download new version
but i steel get this error

I tried many files and i get this same error all the time

Maybe it generates a log file with more error details.

that is the reason to use other servers to attach files to post
near the end of log there is a text
encoded 44978 frames, 1.83 fps, 3427.71 kb/s

here says it encoded the file
maybe staxrip does not mux, if you check the temp folder and look for an aac and h264 file... try to mux them
by the way try to use ffmpeg

I found just as you said : .h264 & .wav & .m4a here is the link to mediainfo (no uploads on forum any more;)).

http://www.4shared.com/rar/jzQsRkQZ/130706_MediaInfo_temp_files.html

I asked Staxrimp to make a video with mp4 container AVC video and AAC audio file. That has nothing to do with the result. But as you say I can work from here

Audio : Wav container and PCM file 29mn 59s
m4a is a MPEG-4 container and AAC file 29mn 59s also

Video : .h264 AVC container and AVC file but no length ?

I shall try and put them together (remux) with what Staxrip ?

Do you have an example (template) for putting chapters every 5 minutes txt or xml ?

So here goes I load the .h264 and i get the question on 130705 How should H264/AVC be opened and I chose, as you asked me ffmpeg. Then another pop-up and I will copy this one. Already uploaded MediaInfo and tired :

"Failed to open source, try another method?
Source: Invalid pts and dts
(W\encodage\Conversions0002\00002 temp
files\0000_Output_Source.avs line 2)
OK"

Loaded all by itself the m4a audio file so I didn't chose between wav and m4a. It was the biggest file anyway so probably the best.

It is using the wav file anyway ?

Operation failed!

x264 encoding failed

Maybe it's more than just the numbering, the only file I've found with 'Codec ID : mp42' demuxes here so such files should be rare, first I thought it's probably an old file because of the low resolution but the tag date is new and the profile is baseline so I guess it's a mobile version of a clip and there should also be a HD version on the site. If it's really so rare then I don't want to spent time on it and rather suggest the mkvmerge workaround.
Well, those files are not so rare if you sometimes download clips from YouPorn...
And there is really no way to make StaxRip demux such files with ffmpeg?

Update:

I just found out that StaxRip handles those (sometimes not so) "rare" files very well if you disable the "Demux Source File" option under "Options->Misc".

Question:
What is the catch if I disable this option "Demux Source file" globally for all my templates? This option is active by default, am I asking for trouble if I disable it?

Cheers

It could be both, I'm sorry but I don't have enough time to support legacy features.

That's disappointing. Staxrip was the best tool for ripping DVDs and BDs to xvid with its compressibility check. Without the option to configure codec settings the compressibility check is useless. Latest working version was 1.1.6.0, so I have to stay at this version. But why is this a legacy feature? I guess many people are using staxrip's compressibility check...

I guess yes and not, try to use mkvmerge (in StaxRip/Applications/Mkvtoolinx/mmg.exe) to mux or another mux tool as mp4box; use the h264 video and aac audio.:)

Do you have an example (template) for putting chapters every 5 minutes txt or xml ?

sorry about this... i do not use chapters with staxrip, i mean, i dont know how to do it...:o

@manolito

I don't remember it but according to the help I guess it skips the entire demuxing chain defined in the global settings, for most sources demuxing makes sense. Because 'Demux Source file' is a project option a possibility would be to make a project template for a special file type.

Is there a special software needed to download from that site and do you know for what exactly Writing application: Lavf54.59.106 stands for?

@joearmstrong

I consider XviD and 2 pass legacy because I see little to no sense in it compared to x264 and single pass quality/crf mode.

I appreciate your opinion and of course you are right: x264 is far better than xvid! But keep in mind that mpeg4 has more compatibility than x264. Most devices don't support x264 like my bluray-player and my ps3. And there are a lot of people out there wich still prefer xvid encodings because of compatibility.
By the way: Staxrip is still my favorite encoding tool. Thanks for your good work!

Bluray and PS3 do support x264...

i have a Bluray about 1 year old and i can play mp4 and mkv files encoded with x264.... about PS3 i guess you need to use AVCHD "disc" but at the end of the day it is h264...:eek::eek::eek::eek:

Not for me. XviD is still good enough for me and it plays fine on all my devices - x264 does not.

I guess yes and not, try to use mkvmerge (in StaxRip/Applications/Mkvtoolinx/mmg.exe) to mux or another mux tool as mp4box; use the h264 video and aac audio.:)

sorry about this... i do not use chapters with staxrip, i mean, i dont know how to do it...:o

Hail to all

Sorry for the delay. I have been quite busy and had already tried Staxrip. Postd MediaIfon directly in forum.

I shall try mmg which usually only recognise .mkv files ? and mp4box as soon as I have the time and keep you informed.

Thanks for the help and have a great day :thanks:

PS hope the message isn't posted at night lol then I would say have a great night :)

EDIT 1 : PPS : that posted immediately ? bravo !

Even many mobile (smart) phones do x264, like my DEFY, which btw isn't exactly the latest out there. For XviD I use Hybrid (http://www.selur.de/).

Fanta I am starting with my version :

StaxRip version Staxrip/Applications/MKVtoolnix/mmg.exe
mkvmerge GUI v3.3 ('Language')
error message :
You're adding an AVC/h.264 elementary stream to the output file. mkvmerge cannot determine the number of frames per second for files itself. Therefore you have to set this parameter yourself on the 'format specific option' page.

If you don't do this then mkvmerge will assume 25fps

This message will only be shown once unless you have enabled mmg's warnings on it's 'settings' page [OK]

Loaded

Frame rate on original file : 25.000 fps so I change nothing.

use the h264 video and aac audio

Loading 00002_Output.m4a OK

Is it okay to xvid_encraw with this new version. Having some trouble pointing app to folder? Followed this procedure below but Staxrip fails to find it, as it says(error message in red)

application has to be located at C:WINDOWS\system32\

The following procedure does not work for me in XP with new 1.1.9.0, but it worked great with all previous versions of Staxrip:

copy the xvid_encraw and xivdcore.dll to the staxrip folder(where the xvid encoder was).
Start staxrip go tools applications.
Press F11, go to your staxrip folder(or wherever you have your xvid encraw exe)
and select that file, you may need to select all files to see it and then okay.
Then press F12 and remove 1.2.2 and type xvid_encraw.
Now Staxrip should run xvid encraw.

Possibility! Also might explain why avisyth is not working for me(I'm using XP pro sp3 updated 32 bit system) now despite using scripts which worked perfectly well before. I used asharp before in older builds, but now crashes in new Staxrip 1.1.9.0 showing syntax red error message. Also does not allow me to make a log of error crashes so I can't post them here as whole program GUI crashes. Have to say this new build is frustrating me a bit. I will revert to previous one I think.

I think the problem comes from the MKV version 2 ? But I am not sure.

Sorry, I cannot reproduce this. Asharp is in use here all the time, and it works perfectly with the current version. I am also on WinXP SP3, the aharp.dll resides in the AviSynth plugin folder (so it will autoload), and I added "asharp(1,4)" to my filter profile.

Cheers

@manolito

I agree. Beats me too! Script works great with last(any previous in fact) version of Staxrip, but something is amiss. Hell it should be working with new version:devil:

P.S I occasionally get halo effects from it. Which script is best to run in conjunction with it e.g below?

LoadPlugin("C:\Documents and Settings\Owner\Desktop\StaxRip_1.1.9.0\Applications\AviSynth plugins\UnDot\UnDot.dll")
LoadPlugin("C:\Documents and Settings\Owner\Desktop\StaxRip_1.1.9.0\Applications\AviSynth plugins\FluxSmooth\FluxSmooth.dll")
LoadPlugin("C:\Documents and Settings\Owner\Desktop\StaxRip_1.1.9.0\Applications\AviSynth plugins\asharp\asharp.dll")
UnDot()
FluxSmoothT(2)
asharp(1.5,4.25,-0.1)

I have used asharp(1.5,4.25,-0.1)and halo effect has manifested as with (1.5,2,1,false) to a lesser effect, however the clarity of video using this sharpener is great.
asharp(1.4,4.7,-0.1) I'm testing now using older Staxrip version as author recommended this himself on his old Doom 9 page. Thanking you.:)

i want to try those files in my old samsung tv (mkv and mp4) so ... can you upload please?...

by the way... how are you trying to watch the files... with some media server like serviio and ps3ms or via usb stick?

EDIT: please upload the source files too, i mean the h264 and aac you used to...

EDIT 2: what is message that your tv shows in screen ?

EDIT 3: besides mkvtoolnix... what software did you use to create the mp4 file?...

Hail to all

Hi Fanta,

I am making 30 second samples of the files mkv and mp4 I think the sample h264 is already made. I will upload on 4shared and edit this post to tell you they are ready.

I have a network on which TV is connected. I have many HD downloaded video files on the network that I can see. Maybe I should send you a MediaInfo of one that is read by TV ?

To read the files I use the TV. The files are not shown / not recognised as files. They just don't appear on the TV even though I can see them on a computer. No media server or serviio and ps3ms nor USB stick. I could try on a USB stick though but I have big doubts the files will be recognised there and not on network.

Will edit asap Have a nice day
