StaxRip don't support this, maybe there is another application, you could try a separate or eac3to thread.

Thanks!

I've never tried to build it from command line, maybe it needs MSBuild from .NET framework 4.0 since the error says: Project file contains ToolsVersion="4.0"

edit:

I confirm it builds with 4.0 here:

"C:\Windows\Microsoft.NET\Framework\v4.0.30319\MSBuild.exe" "C:\Users\Frank\Desktop\staxmedia-StaxRip.tar\staxmedia-StaxRip\StaxRip\StaxRip.sln"

compile works fine (for me in vs2010) but u need to download BDSup2Sub to use it and i suggest if this is required so be the java or other way around :)

stax76
28th July 2010, 16:48
I try to change that so people who don't need BDSup2Sub don't need for Java. For Blu-ray I think it's rather important because of forced subtitles.

Stax I still cannot figure out a workaround to resizing. Trying to set 720 x Auto. I know the output should be 720 x 400 but I just can't get it to do that. Resizing seems to be affected by cropping.

Maybe you are batch processing and have auto resizing enabled:

Project Option > Image > Auto resize image size

The default was changed to disabled in recent builds because too many did not notice or understand this option.

Stax it still apears that there is something going on with resizing. I start with an image of 720 x 576. After cropping the size is 704 x 572. However when resized to 704 the value is 704 x 576 and when at 720 it is 720 x 592. I have PAR at 1:1. Tried this file HDC, handbrake and megui and output file is 720x400. Thought screen might show if I am getting something wrong.

Source PAR from DVD isn't 1:1, did StaxRip detect this or did you set it as forced/custom value? It's unlikely the auto detection isn't working with DVD sources. Most of the time StaxRip will detect the correct source PAR. The code for this is complicated and was again changed much since the last uploaded build.

I am trying this new profile to acheive supersampling on some animation. Has anyone acheived a good supersampling script in Staxrip before?

This is where I have started.

Spline36Resize((%source_width%*2),(%source_height%*2)).MSharpen(threshold=10,strength=140).Spline36Resize((%source_width%),(%source_height%))

Edit: Obviously should have been
SupersamplingSpline36 = Spline36Resize((%target_width%*2),(%target_height%*2)).MSharpen(threshold=10,strength=140).Spline36Resize(%target_width%,%target_height%)
SupersamplingBlackman = BlackmanResize((%target_width%*2),(%target_height%*2)).MSharpen(threshold=10,strength=140).BlackmanResize(%target_width%,%target_height%)

stax76,

I have noticed on the new version that it no longer rips the sub titles. I have gone into options and I have enabled it but it doesn't start the process and actually decode them. If I start VSrip manually it works fine and I can rip the subtitles out without any issue but I was hoping to not have to do it manually all the time.

Thanks!

New version appears to be working fine. I did have to open the program, completely disable it, then re-enable it and save as my primary template again to make it 'stick'. Also, whenever I press "F4" to go to the crop section and I press "A" to 'auto crop' it defaults to 'no crop'. Is that one purpose? I see that "a" is set for both no-crop and auto-crop. I'll keep on experimenting with it.

Stax as the mkv container config has changed I have two questions.
1) How do i get Staxrip to automatically detect chapters in source and mux them into encoded file? Can't find the option I set last time

2) The access to the macro commands for title and video track name are gone. Not a biggie but I liked being able to set title equal to target file name or source dir name from the drop down.

stax76

@TBKHomeworld!

VSRip sometimes fails because StaxRip only runs it if there is an PGC that has the same play time then the target length, in this case you have to run it manually, you can launch VSRip from Main Menu > Tools > Launch > VSRip. The muxing dialog has a new preview feature to check if subtitles and audio are synced with video.

Also, whenever I press "F4" to go to the crop section and I press "A" to 'auto crop' it defaults to 'no crop'. Is that one purpose? I see that "a" is set for both no-crop and auto-crop.

Probably a copy paste bug, until a new build is available you can edit the shortcuts choosing 'Edit Menu'.

1) How do i get Staxrip to automatically detect chapters in source and mux them into encoded file? Can't find the option I set last time

For Blu-ray AnyDVD and eac3to demuxing and MakeMKV mkv demuxing chapters are handled but for DVD you have to rip them manually except you use DVD Decrypter which can rip them so there is room for improvement but I think I'll continue taking a break or code a little bit on my DirectShow player.

2) The access to the macro commands for title and video track name are gone. Not a biggie but I liked being able to set title equal to target file name or source dir name from the drop down.

Please provide a more detailed description.

Hi stax,

could you feature in next version customizable external tools locations (such that I choose where's x264, mkvtoolnix, neroaacenc and others located)
It would make updating tools easier if they're shared by more frontends.
Just a hint, IMHO quite easy implementation (add directory chooser to particular tools' tabs)

I have a mkv file that I cannot convert with sound because of a StaxRip error message (with ffmpeg decoding it seems).

Here is the log and I can provide additional information if needed:

I've changed it to always try a second decoding method in case the first fails, in case of ffmpeg fails it will try DirectShowSource. With a file like yours it will fail with the MS AAC decoder but work with ffdshow so please try the hotfix and check your config with tools like GraphStudio and Win7DSFilterTweaker.

I noticed a unrelated bug in your log file, attachments were extracted and added to the muxer options as mkvmerge custom command line parameters even though MP4Box is the muxer. If you still work with the project you have to remove the custom command line parameters from the muxer dialog.

http://www.filedropper.com/staxriphotfix

Fixed bug trying to run DGIndexNV even though it's not installed
Fixed bug same source file picked up for both audio tracks
Fixed bug mkvmerge custom command line parameters with attachments added to MP4Box custom command line parameters
Instead of using DirectShowSource as default StaxRip will ask if DSS or ffms2 should be used
eac3to demuxer defaults now to mkv output, DGIndexNV, ffms2 and DSS can open it, DGAVCDEC can't
Removed asking to demux video from MKV now using defaults, AVC is not demuxed since DSS, ffms2 and DGIndexNV can open it
In case the first audio decoding method fails a second method is tried
Changed shortcut for 'No Crop' in Cropping dialog to N and added new menu item 'Crop Options...' showing the crop options directly from the Cropping dialog
In case the audio track language is undetermined StaxRip now first tries to find a track with language of the current locale as track 1 and english as track 2
Improved source PAR detection for some formats

Thanks, the update fixed the problem.

As to the muxer commands I didn't change anything. With your new exe file no subtitles are added and I don't even know where to look as I don't know how to add a custom muxer command.

stax76
7th August 2010, 12:45
Both subtitles and custom command line parameters for the muxer can be edited in the container/muxer configuration dialog. With subtitles not added do you mean they were demuxed but not picked up? There is a option to define which languages to pick up, it's possible to pick up all languages, default is current locale and English. The option can be found at Project Options > Subtitles > Auto load..., you can right-click the option for help, it tell about two letter language codes and all as magic word for all subtitles. If subtitles are not picked up according to what's defined in this option you can still pick them up manually in the container/muxer configuration dialog.

Ok, I just checked the result and I didn't get a result file as the muxing fails again. So it seems I have to disable the subtitle autoloading in the settings although I don't know why Staxrip tries to add it in the first place if it isn't supported.

So here is the log with the same settings as the one before (not sure if I selected preset anime in x264 but the rest is the same) for the same file:

stax76

It's the fastest decoder but don't make a big difference for DVD since that decodes fast anyway. ffms2 is also a little bit faster then DGMPGDEC, use it as follows:

Rip DVD to hard drive using DVDFab HD Decrypter, take care ripping DVD9 as DVD9.

Open DVD folder from hard drive with MakeMKV and convert to MKV, with two hard drives this takes only 2 minutes, alternatively use some ripping method that creates only 1 big VOB file, DVD Decrypter can do that, there are probably other methods, for new discs you need AnyDVD or DVDFab Passkey (free!) otherwise DVD Decrypter might fail.

If you have MPEG-2 in MKV and StaxRip ask to demux MPEG-2 don't do it and rather open MKV directly with ffms2 or DGDecNV, next version won't any longer ask to demux video, IIRC it won't demux MPEG-2 and AVC, don't seem to make sense since ffms2 and DGDecNV open MKV quite well.

Personally I will use MakeMKV and DGDecNV for my next DVDs, so far both work great and I can only recommend both, I'll also try ffms2 more often.

I want to ask about DGindexNV, is it better than DGIndex? ...does index better than freeware Dgindex?Along with indexing FASTER it also uses nvidia decoding so that source decoding is perfectly accurate with all sources. I used to have glitching with source material (minor pixelizations at random points in a video) which are now completely gone with DGIndexNV.

Probably my glitches were owing to decoder errors (faulty codecs) on my PC, and maybe these have since been fixed, but regardless they have never been an issue with DGIndexNV. YMMV. :)

I use StaxRIP for years now and it came to my attention that the last versions seem a lot slower than before.

Normally I would use the application to convert DVD into XviD which took me approx 1:1 in time. In hard cases it could be twice as long as the original length. Ok, I can live with that.

Recently I'm encoding XviD and MKV from transportstreams from satellite; both SDTV and HDTV, where bitrates vary from 2mbit to 10+mbit.

When I encode from HDTV, even the first pass takes 6 to 8 times longer than the playlength of the video-content. This can mean HOURS if it comes to encoding a tv-episode for example.

Also, about the subtitle extraction, it might be a handy option, to -also- extract subtitles from these transportstreams. Most of the time these are basic 'teletext' subtitles, which have a PGC-ID, which can be extracted into .srt. I would really love to have this in StaxRIP, because it would save me the hassle of using even more utilities, whereas, to me, the entire goal of staxrip is to use ONE single GUI that handles it all :)

Hope my 'bugreport' (which I can't really explain, but that it's even slower when I have browsers open (no matter IE, Opera, Firefox)) will be read and maybe something could be done to improve the speed, not to deteriate the quality.

You might wanna run the .ts through a program such as TSDoctor or VideoReDo 4 (w h264) first.

It might have to do with the first header, which contains info that is intended for your PVR and not for a standard player.

the first 3 or 4 bytes might be off and (i might not be accurate now) the 182/188 bit/bytes-block structure might be a little problem.

I have a similar thing when I instantly grab my recorded .ts files and want to play them back or use to encode them; I have to filter out the 'garbage' first.

note: both apps work for like 14 to 30 days fully. I haven't seen a freeware app (such as TSSniper) that does the cleaning part.

After the cleaning you can encode your Al Jazeera Sports recording :) (Yeah, I recon the channelname :))

@MACKerMD

Decreased speed is caused by the encoder most of the time I think so you would have to investigate encoder version and settings. DGDecNV would give speed boost because HD decoding takes much CPU time, DGDecNV can decode on the GPU. I don't know how subtitles could be extracted from such streams by command line.

@UeFa

Maybe you can upload a small sample clip.

Encoding versions are the ones you include in your builds. Currently using 1.1.6.6 beta (same with .4) only somewhere around 1.1.3 it was 'reasonably' fast.

ok, so that explains the HD decoding, but 6-8 times longer overal for the first pass to decode? I -can- playback 1080 flawlessly. Maybe an 'autodetect' option would be sweet?! The strange thing is, that the slowness (now) also occurs using regular 'SD'-content. So this includes SDTV and DVD.

I know that programs such as ProjectX (Java based) can handle it, and there's a guy I know who's trying to use a similar thing too.
Based on DVBTextSub 0.5. Which is a commandline freeware util for this. The app asks for PGC-ID, TTXpage (eg. 888), what output (srt or srt color) and filename. I think this could be easy to implement.

Hope this helps you too.

Hope this helps me also :)

@all

I wrote a small wiki page about different ripping applications, it's not very detailed but I hope it gives at least a good idea.

@MACKerMD

If you post all parameters relating to encoding speed maybe somebody can give you some tips, many things can be found it the log file. Regarding subtitles somebody would have to tell me how it works.

Regarding your PSP presets, they seem to have b-pyramid enabled in them. I tried encoding a few files for PSP though, and those with b-pyramid disabled played normally, and if I had it enabled, the files would show up as unsupported on PSP.

Googled around a bit and found this thread (http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?t=152761) regarding b-pyramid.

@UeFa

Besides the applications suggested by MACKerMD you could also try DGDecNV (http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?t=147945)(worked here with your file) and tsremux (http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?t=125447)(not tried).

@Temuthril

Thanks, I'll fix it.

@UeFa

You need to have a supported Nvidia graphics card to use DGIndexNV.
