Hi, anybody can help with job queueing in staxrip. I really lost right now.
I have multi videos with different playtime & I want to do batch encoding which target certain bitrate.
I noticed in template you can target only to size.
Anyway to do it with bitrate? Thx.

you can create your own templates. just set staxrip to the desired options (without opening a file!) and create a new template afterwards.

but...
Opening multiple files at the beginning and doing a "real" batch did never work for me in staxrip (only tried mkv). i set the program for every single job and create a job cue instead and let it run over night. it is a bit more work but it works.

it is also possible to already run the first job and edit the others while the first one is already running. The trick is to cue a job and run it, then open staxrip a second time and create a new job. if that job is cued, it will be applied to the same job list as the first one. Afterwards multiple jobs can be made in the second staxrip-window. saves some time, but of course everything is going sloooow ^^ (maybe it then doesn't save time at all? ^^)

Yes me too.

I did this. Works.

But the last few encodes yielded a slightly error where video comes quicker than it should be (than the sound & subtitle).

I tried with MeGUI, it doesnt produce this kind of error. (unfortunately MeGUI has another issue with me..)

For those who cares, my words description might not be undestood by all, so here i uploaded samples & where it goes wrong.

Different ReSize Filters gave Same Results!

I converted a sample video yo see how different re-size filters give the output.
I down-scaled a 1280x720 x264 video into 720x400 XviD.

5 times using 4/5 different re-size filters.

Neutral ------------ BicubicResize(720,400,0,0.5)
VerySHarp ---------- Lanczos4Resize(720,400)
Spline64Resize ----- Spline64Resize(720,400)
GaussResize -------- GaussResize(720,400,99)
GaussResize -------- GaussResize(720,400,p=99)

(yeah was not sure about GaussResize so i did both ways above. tell me the correct way!)

But all 5 output files look same!
Is it normal?
Or did i use it wrong?
(im a noob)
[Don't know about other filters but why neutral and very sharp look same?]

I usually encode audio using default settings in Staxrip which is the Dolby Surround default ,but tried the Dolby 2 setting instead and encoded a track to 112kb/s from 5.1 surround. The end audio was good as expected. Is this Dolby 2 surround downmix setting Dolby Prologic II replication?

I guess that because of the low bitrate I used the default was used in anycase and that it would be just a straight stereo mix anyway rather than D.P II which needs a much greater bitrate eg 256 to 320kb/s? Thankyou for any advice.

hello, again absolutly love this program

thanks stax

ive run in to 2 problems

i opened staxrip, clicked source, chose bluray folder, then chose the largest playlist

i then gave it a name, and chose a save directory

after that i was prompted with a greyed out box, "bluray m2ts demuxing using eac3to"

on one ocasion i was able to close it and chose all the various demux options, and once done clicked ok, but the process was instanlty met with a log i think it was regarding the eac3to? since trying again i could no longer go any futher into the prorogram and am stuck with the greyed out box as descrived above?

any help would greatly be appreciated, im sorry if this is so obvious ive just switched over from handbrake, and trying to grasp how to use it!

Edit: here is what the dialogue box says

------------------------------------------------------------
Demux M2TS using eac3to
------------------------------------------------------------

"C:\Program Files (x86)\Bluray Tools\StaxRip_1.1.7.2\Applications\eac3to\eac3to.exe" "F:\BDMV\PLAYLIST\" 1) 2: "J:\Staxrip\Inception\Untitled.mkv" 3: "J:\Staxrip\Inception\Untitled - ID3 - en-English_Master Audio.dtshd" 1: "J:\Staxrip\Inception\Untitled_Chapters.txt" 8: "J:\Staxrip\Inception\Untitled - ID8 - en-English.sup" -progressnumbers -log="J:\Staxrip\Inception\Untitled_eac3to.log"

i have checked that location unfortunately there is no log

I have a recent problem with audio in StaxRip.
The audio sounds clipped or hickuppy.
First I tried different versions of StaxRip, then running in Safe Mode.

I got back to where (I assume) the audio is being demuxed with DGIndex - the problem showed up in the demuxed ac3 file.
I then ran DGIndex directly from it's folder in StaxRip and it sounds OK.
Seems to it's when it's being demuxed from the front end.
You can hear it as the woman starts to speak.

I'm having a problem every time I cut a video with soft subtitles form the Preview window if I cut the beginning off of a video the subs end up out of sync because they don't cut with the video.

Such as if I cut the video from 5 minutes in the video and sound start at the right time but the subtitles will start from the original start point 5 minutes from the portion I've cut so they'll be 5 minutes out of sync.

Is there settings somewhere that I'm not setting right or is stax not able to cut subs for some reason?

Edit:
The video I'm editing is a DVD ripped to VOB and IFO files, If any more info is needed please let me know

You should try hardsubbing them into the video. That way the subs will be placed at the right time.

I was trying to reconvert an avc video with 5.1 surround to Xvid & 160vbr mp3 when using this latest Staxrip build 1.1.7.2. I'm using XP with all the latest service packs and security updates as well as all the NetFramework files up until version 4 installed. This never happened with the last Staxrip build which I am now moving back to. I keep getting this annoying warning from new build Staxrip:

The application has failed to start because libsndfile-1.dll was not found. Reinstalling application may fix this problem.

I eventually realized that placing it in the Vdubmod folder in applications might work and it did only to fail on the 2nd Xvid pass when the stats file was not found.

Hey all.
Excuse my ignorance. I'm trying to create a custom macro for the demuxed subtitle file in order to add the following filter to hardcode subs:

[Subtitle]
Hardcode Subs = TextSub("%subtitle_file%")

I know I can hardcode the subtitle file by tools>hardcoded subtitle. But that is only good for hardcoding one file. I want to batch hardcode many mkv files with embedded .ass subs so I can retain the styling when I watch them from my iPad. Only by creating the custom macro correctly would allow me to do this. Basically, I want the value of the custom macro %subtitle_file% to point to the working directory's demuxed subtitle file just like the defualt macro %audio_file1% does for the audio. Thank you.

SelectEven is a field selector, not a frame selector. By its function you should still be at 50fps even after its use.

assumefps does not work because this function only changes speed of the movie. selecteven discards every other frame. the same effect gives changefps(25) function.

It does work on the video but the sound is slowed down when encoding to AAC. Encoding to mp3 has sound and video in sync.

the same effect gives changefps(25) function.

After formatting XP and reinstalling still getting that bloody annoying message above and a Staxrip crash. Like a said putting that dll in Vdubmod folder does not solve the issue and registering it was impossible. an installer package proved to be useless. Mystifying bug!

It is probably an XP system specific issue and one which has been bugging me for ages!

I doubt it...

I have been using StaxRip forever on my Win XP Pro installation without ever getting this error. And neither StaxRip nor VdubMod need this file libsndfile-1.dll.

I just searched my whole drive for this file, and I only have one single instance in my LameXP folder. And it does not come frome LameXP itself, it comes from the Fraunhofer AAC encoder which had been extracted from WinAmp.

I really can't see why Staxrip would complain when this file is missing. StaxRip does not use the FHG encoder, it uses Nero. Strange...

Probably, it comes from soundout avisynth plugin...

Copy "SoundOut.dll" and "libsndfile-1.dll" to your AviSynth plugin directory, usually "c:\program files\avisynth 2.5\plugins". If you want to have "SoundOut.dll" in another location, you should move "libsndfile-1.dll" to your system32 folder, usually "c:\windows\system32".

I once tried copying that miserable little:devil:dll to the system 32 folder and it failed miserably as all my other tryouts, but I'll certainly give it a bash and copy directly to avisynth plugin folder. Why didn't I think of that one? I copied to VdubMod instead!:o

Hopefully it will work. I've more or less had the same set up and am very careful of what goes in my system) so it is very perplexing to know how this bloody error started up in the first place.
Thankyou for your very helpful advice.:)

I think I know why it started: I installed Avisynth 2.5.8 rev2 along with new Staxrip version. Previously when things worked fine, I was using an older 2.5.8 version where this dll.file may have been included(or if not it this version of Avisynth was certainly more compatible with Staxrip's processes?) in the installer and it worked with the older version of staxrip. Your advice worked. Cheers Kurtnoise I owe you one! Thanks guys!

@zarei

Do you try to achieve something special? The value StaxRip passes to --default-duration is the frame rate returned by the avisynth script, the script can be modified using the changefps() function.

Actually you will not waste too much space, as audio codecs nowadays use technologies such as "joint stereo" to save space on mono or quasi-mono sources.

I think BeSweet can't handle mono, I've changed it to use another encoder in such case, eac3to for aac output and ffmpeg for mp3, output will remain mono. Meanwhile you can use the encoder option in the settings to force eac3to usage.

could there be an autodetect mode for audio channels? So that the audio is encoded via the codec with the original channels.

If you have 6 channels in your profile/settings and your source has only 2 it should not cause problems and produce output with 2 channels.

Done, and it works, thanks. However, no matter which encoder is selected, I cannot enter 56 kbit cause bitrate is greyed out?

It's greyed out because only VBR is supported using the eac3to encoder, I don't remember but guess this is a eac3to limitation, you would have to check the eac3to documentation. Using the BeSweet and ffmpeg encoder there is a ABR mode in the right treeview options.
