mp2enc.dll is not bad, it is based on an earlier version of toolame.dll, and was created for cdex, as such toolame is more optimized, this had been discussed on hydrogenaudio, and most testimonies are that in most case toolame is slightly better then mp2enc.dll.

Kurtnoise
19th June 2005, 16:44
slightly, yeah. So, the easier way (if you want to use BeLight) could be to create a batch file (by using azid if your source is ac3 and/or toolame). Then, in Edit BeSweet command line you write the command (example : c:\windows\cmd.exe c:\my_batch_file.bat) to run this batch file...

drob

Could you integrate toolame.exe into the GUI? enabling to choose between mp2enc, toolame dll and the executable? maybe by adding a fixed command line that points to toolame.exe and parsing the switches from the dll?

I'll try but you must know that it's not my first priority. ;)

The progress bar does not move for me nor does the CML come up anymore. Normal changes?

I can confirm progress bar not moving.

With what kind of input files ? ac3 or anything else ?

Only tried WAV to AC3. I can test others tonight.

Ok, I haven't been following this whole thread along, but what does it mean when all your labels disappear (literally all the words on the GUI)? I do have a 'lang' folder which contains English.ini.

I just upgraded to the latest beta, and it worked the first time I ran it, but after that all my labels disappeared. Weird.

-abs

edit: Oh yeah, and the progress bar doesn't seem to move right for me, either.

Also, is there some limitation or bug with batch encoding? That's my main reason for wanting to use BeLight (no batches in Headac3he). I queued up 4 jobs and the first 3 seem to have worked, but I got an abort in the last one. And all 4 jobs were virtually identical, so there should've been anything peculiar about job #4 that caused it to crash.

I can confirm problems with batch processing, BeLight only runs one of the jobs, usually the last one, in other cases it reported transcoding done, without actually doing anything.

There seems to be an issue with latest b30 of BeSweet, BeLight finished the job, log file confirmed the job was done, but didn't change the button to green and the status still showed trasncoding, or when transcoding into mp2, i got BeSweet doesn't exist.

When transcoding into mp2 using b29 of BeSweet, i got the BeSweet is a command line and has a GUI pop up.

Encoding into mp2 doesn't have the option for adding the -e error correction switch, trying to edit he command line didn't help.

I tried the progress bar issue both in inputing AC3 to wav and to mp2.

Is it me or progress bars aren't working in beta4?

Thanks for that noid3 option Kurt :D

I just recieved this notification from my firewal:

Application Hijacking has been detected
The application: F:\......\BeLight.exe try to launch another
application: F:\.....\mozilla.exe to go to remote host www.paypal.com

Am i the only one with this problem?
Im doing a virus check now since i suspect something is wrong with my system (totaly unrelated to belight) just to be shure.

I am trying to transcode 6 (six) MP3 files to AC3 format. I dragged all six into the menu box, but checked only the first one. The transcoding went fine (I did one to see how long it would take). I then checked 2 through 6 and started processing. I got logs for 2 and 6 only, and it kept over-writing the AC3 I had made for MP3 #1!

I got the job done by doing one at a time, closing and re-opening BeLight for each one, however, it was a bit of a pain. And, no, the progress bar did nothing for me either!

It is a beta version though!

Paulcat

p.s. I am using the latest BeSweet 1.5 beta30 and BeLight 0.22 beta4. To convert to AAC, can I use the DLL's from corecodec? Are they recognized by being in the BeSweet directory or is something else needed?

LigH
22nd June 2005, 16:36
CoreCodec made an AAC *en*coder? That's new to me - I thought they only provide a *de*coder filter.

For encoding to AAC, BeSweet only supports the Nero AAC encoder via BSN, as far as I know.

Hi Kurt,

first impression: the GUI looks real nice and works fine so far :)

two thinks I´ve noticed while trying to split a 32bits 6channel WAV:
I found no way to use this command with the GUI
BeSweet.exe -core( -input "c:\...\6ambi1.5.wav" -output "c:\...\6ambi1.5-New-" -6chfloat -logfilea BeSweet.log ) -ota( -G 0.95 )

while spliting into channels the 0% stay constant -> maybe someone else has posted this before :o

Heya,

Sorry for the delay guys...I'm really busy with my job.

Do you use the GUI to create the command line or your hands + run button :p ? If you use BeLight, it's maybe a bug. I'll check out this thing.

indeed...

first off...thanks for the proggy.,

when it is done converting 5.1 to 2.0 WAV (which is does perfectly), the dialog stops with an x and says "transcoding aborted" probably should be "transcoding finished"

@Kurtnoise13: Can you redirect the console output into some memo box in the GUI? This is done using pipes. I can supply some delphi code if you want. I used that technique in an old project I've done and it works fine.

Use the logfile option. It gives you exactly what you looking for.

thanks Kurtnoise...does this mean that we should re download beta 4? Or are you making a beta 5?

dwrbudr

@Kurtnoise13: Because I cannot see the progress of the transcoding. I'm using the latest beta and transcoding to AAC, but the current and total progress bars are always at 0%. Redirecting the console to text box is really easy - about 20-30 lines of code :)

it's the same problem like someone else has described in different post above...It's fixed for wav files but there is a strange thing with vorbis and mpeg files. I use the same code but it doesn't work... :sly: Give me some times to find this bug. Thanks.

hey kurt, i've got a small question, i noticed there are some boost modes, like those of dspguru, ligh, etc. in belight, so should they be used in ac3 to mp3 or aac or vorbis transcoding, and pls can u tell me which one should be used for ac3 to aac and ac3 to vorbis and ac3 to mp3 conversion!thanks in advance!

Kurtnoise
3rd July 2005, 09:51
The boost modes must be use only with wav input files.

LigH
3rd July 2005, 10:12
@ neo_anderson:

I guess I'm the right person to tell you about the booster...

Booster is a per-sample "dynamic compressor". It works like a saturating amplifier, and each mode uses a different saturating function:

- LigH: tangens hyperbolicus
- DSPguru: arcus tangens
- Tera: division to a sum with an abs value

The first mode (LigH) is quite linear for the quieter parts, and saturating a bit more suddenly. I'd recommend this with a factor around 3.0 for dynamic compression when the amount of channels is kept (no downmix).

The second mode (DSPguru) starts to saturate earlier. I would recomment this mode with a factor around 4.0 for dynamic compression on sources which get downmixed (e.g. AC3 5.1 to 2.0 for MP3).

The third mode (Tera) saturates even earlier. In general, I cannot recommend this mode - except maybe, if you really need to boost your material into the orbit to understand anything.

If you want to use the booster instead of Azid's DRC (and I mean "instead of", don't forget about this!), is your choice of taste. Try it. Play around. Decide for yourself.

The waveform will get distorted, but from my experience, this doesn't harm surround effects remarkably. In my opinion, its advantage is less "pumping", especially if you need the dynamic compressed well to avoid your neighbors knocking on walls. But the waveform distorsion is a downside an audiophile cannot ignore.
__

@ Kurtnoise13:

Only on WAV? What makes you assume that? BeSweet supports the booster internally as well, during the conversion of any supported format pair.

Kurtnoise
3rd July 2005, 12:32
yes I know...but I had several issues (too many distorsions...and I dont like this) when I applied a boost with some lossy files.

They use a different codepage, not Windows-1252 (ANSI/Latin1) or Latin-Western (ISO-8859-1). Special chars (above ASCII code 127) are substituted.

1250 = Central/Eastern European (probably useful for polish)
1251 = Cyrillic (useful for russian)
1252 = Western European (usual for basic latin chars)
...

Kurtnoise

Does it mean I need to change my CharSet or add a CharSet option in BeLight ??

LigH

I'm not sure; I would expect that Windows has a different default codepage in such localized installations, so you probably don't have to handle anything inside your program

Hi, I've read through the thread. I also get the Transcoding aborted error with music video audio:

- I'm using BeLight 0.22 b4.
- Audio is - 4mn 5s 244 kbps 2CH @ 6.55MB. Tested at

Dynamic compression - Normal
Output - Stereo
Normal/HE/High (2.59MB)

Just thought I'd report the error. Audio appears to be fine though (Is it fine?)

Thanks :)

Hi Kurt!

I am using Win XP Pro SP2, and when I tried to use BeLight 0.22b4 I have on my screen the truncated window of the program that cannot be completely opened anyway:

Belight 0220 beta 4
PCM WAVE 48000 16bit stereo, encoding to AC3 160kb 2 channel.

Media Player Classic details identifies encoded ac3 file as 6 channels. Gspot identifies it as 2 channel.

I'm just wandering if the file has been accurately encoded as stereo (2 channels), or if this is a bug in Belight encoding - or a bug in MPCs analysis identification of the ac3 file?.

Kurtnoise
8th July 2005, 06:27
I can't see the picture coz it needs to be approval but I'm sure about one thing : BeSweet can't transcode directly a stereo to a multichannel stream. So....;)

Vlad74

2 Kurt: I can do nothing with this window manually! The resolution is 1280x1024. I agree - It is strange, I never had same problem and I do not know what to think about it. An older version (0.22b1) had normal window size and worked well but coursed 3 times before each start that it had some problems for lack of something. Now I have it rewritten with the newest version.

Aha, yes you are right Kurtnoise! I just tested some differently encoded 2 channel AC3s and it is definitely MPC identification problem which identifies 6 channels instead of 2.

No problems with the Belight encoded AC3s then, thanks a lot :)
