Hey guys, sorry for a newb question but I never needed this before. Is there a way to stop StaxRip from closing its main UI once you start the job list, so you can continue working on further jobs while the first ones on the list are encoding?

Just open another StaxRip window and keep adding jobs.

Still enjoying StaxRip almost daily. Of course I miss the regular updates, but I love that many things can be manually updated, or worked around. Only things bugging me are AV1-related (ex: SVT-AV1, update commands, show bitrate during encoding, or don't hang when "--progress 2"). Anyway, love you all who've helped with StaxRip over the years. Still nothing beats it.

You can open another instance of StaxRip while encoding, and add jobs. (I would only be careful changing global settings during this time, as I've had the changes disappear, probably overwritten by other instance. Or maybe I imagined this.) But yes, new jobs should be just fine. Edit: I missed fredlkrue's reply, agreed.

I have been using the audio settings below to convert TrueHD and DTS-HD 7.1 to 5.1 AC3.
Is this correct or do I need advanced options for mapping the channels correctly?

I recommend reading the ffmpeg information on how downgrading the number of channels is handled. In this case you are going from DTS 7.1 to 5.1 AC3. I would be curious how the two extra source channels are muxxed into 5.1 format. The ffmpeg docs should cover that.
Additonally, you have the "normalize" box checked. You may decide to retain the original levels of the DV source, so unchecking this is something you might want to investigate. Perhaps try listening to so a sample with and without normalize to see it sounds.

Did anyone have any luck integrating latest VapourSynth into StaxRip? Some of the updated VS plugins now require API4 from VS R55+, but I wasn't able to update to VapourSynth R60 and Python 3.10 manually. It keeps crashing for some reason, and the error log is unhelpful.

Good morning, I often use StaxRip to remux video files to insert data from nfo files (more varied information, such as synopses and etc.) in mkvs tags, I would like to know how to do this via command line with StaxRip, I'm looking to add StaxRip as a post-process to another application calling TinyMediaManager which renames the files, as well as downloads nfo files with information about the movie and/or episode of the series, as well as artwork such as cover art, posters and the like related to media , with this I intend TinyMediaManager to invoke StaxRip, insert nfo that as well as arts in mkv file via command line, could anyone help me please? I'm a beginner and my knowledge of running things via the command line is limited.

Using Staxrip to encode using 265 on new Ryzen 5900x 12 core CPU. The settings are: --bitrate 2250 --preset slow --output-depth 10 --pools 24
I am getting 18 fps with CPU use around 60% on 24 threads - max temp 87C typical temp 84C so I don't think there is thermal throttling.
Any tips on coaxing more fps out of this CPU?

You don't mention what filters, if any, are being used. Depending on filters, you will likely benefit from using the PreFetch. I have a Ryzen 5950X and find that a PreFetch of 12 or 14 works well with HD source. For SD, I find a value of 6 or 8 works best.
You will find that depending on the source, it is unlikely you will get more out of the processor. The way X265 does parallelism means the various threads take different amount of time to complete. Each thread needs to complete before the encoding can continue as the decision tree works out the best way to encode the source. I rarely max out my 5950X.
One last thing worth mentioning. You don't mention if you are using the Ryzen precision boost. In my experience with both my 3950X and then the 5950X, I found that disabling precision boost and doing a manual overclock allowed me to get a lot more out of the CPU with less heat. Sometimes the stock voltages are too high, causing unnecessary heat. You can experiment with various clock speeds and voltages, and testing for stability with something like Prime95 or Cinebench.

While using QTGMC for deinterlacing older MPEG2-/-VOB-files (Pal, NTSC but also 1080p-MPEG2-HDTV-files) the produced material is NOT progressive, when I choose ffmpeg-ProRes output in a MOV Container. MediaInfo reports the produced file to be formerly progressive and afterwards changed to "interlaced" (?) - what is definetively wrong. The source material had been interlaced. I tried it with different interlaced video clips and everytime got the same mediainfo report.

With staxrip 2.10 medianfo reports the same video sources as "progressive" after deinterlacing with QTGMC (as it should be). The bug is in Version 2.11 and in Version 2.12 as well.
I'm not a specialist in encoding, but I found out, that the bug has something to do with the new ffmpeg-version in the "StaxRip\Apps\FrameServer\AviSynth"-Folder. ALL ffmpeg Versions since then produce this bug - even if I download the newest ffmpeg-builds from here: https://www.gyan.dev/ffmpeg/builds/. Maybe something with ffmpeg itself changed and I need to use new parameters? I alway use this one:
-c:v prores -profile:v 3

Hi, this is very interesting, I too have a 3950X & 5950X, and they are quite often slower at encoding than my 5900X...
I will have to try you suggestion :)

The usual YMMV applies here. First thing I did was disable Precision Boost. I then started with core speed of 3800 and adjusted the voltage. I saved that profile in BIOD. Go for the lowest CPU core voltage that allows a stable machine. I then repeated that for 4000, and then 4200. I found with the 5950X, 3800 and 4000 handle things quite well. I have rarely used the 4200 MHz clock.
And stability is key. Once you pick a clock speed and voltage, the system should be able to handle a CineBench without fault. I also used Primt95 on CPU Test. That will give you a good idea on how well your CPU cooler is performing. Make sure to watch your CPU temperatures.

Is there anyway to change the default settings of audio encoding? I don't think templates work in this case.
For example anytime I choose AAC encoding, I want the normalize not to be checked.

What I've recently done, with my ASUS ROG X570 board, and 5950X is:-
Set the PBO Fmax to Enabled.
Set PBO to Enabled.
Curve Optimizer - Auto.
Ai OC (memory settings) to D.O.C.P.
Running a Thermaltake 360 AIO, with push / pull fans.
And it's running at approx 4400 - 4500Mhz when encoding.
It is currently running better than I remember, so that's nice ;)

Yes, I am VERY happy with my 7950X, not long after buying that, I just had to try a 13900KF, just to see what all the fuss was about, took a little bit of fiddle to get them both going the way I wanted, and they are VERY close to the same speed, when it comes to encoding.
But I use RipBot264.
So do you think you'll be able to figure out how to update things in Staxrip ??

I built a new version of Staxrip v2.13.0 with DJATOM's VS changes and it successfully opened a video using the portable VS v60. But when I tried to use some of the denoise presets things went pear shaped very quickly. So it looks like most if not all plugins and scripts need to be updated and individually tested.
I can sort of understand why Dendraspis might not be interested in pushing Staxrip forward especially with all the VS changes that need to happen just to keep functioning how it currently is.

Im running a few tests with staxrip, and using ffmetrics (vmaf) to compare the results.
Mediainfo reports the frame rate of the original at 23.976 (24000/1001) and the encoded files as 23.976. It doesnt have the fractional part.
This seems correct, but when i put them into ffmetrics to compare, it reports the source correctly, but reports the encodes at 23.81, highlighted in red as a mismatch, and this causes the vmaf scores to be inaccurate, often around 35.
I tried to work around this by encoding to ut video i think its called. A lossless codec, and this solves the problem of the framerates being mismatched (because the lossless encode has the sams problem), but introduces the problem of the sources being 10gb each, and i have like 50 sources.
I tried setting the framerate manually in staxrip to 24000/1001 but it still didnt work.
How can i fix this?

Theyre blurays of tv shows i ripped and split up into small 5 minute parts for testing. 1080p 23.976 stuff, progressive. I dont have any filters, just the basic preset from staxrip, which i then changed to my desired settings, i can list all of the changes i made:
Codec: x264
Quality: crf 18
Preset: VerySlow
Tune: Film
Profile: High
Threads: 1
Those are all the settings i set myself, so everything else is default.
Another thing about the source. I used MKVToolNix to split them, and also just pulled the AVC video stream out, so the files dont have any other content. The original bluray rips had the video file (the only remaining data), the audio, pgs subs and also chapter.

My suspicion is MKToolNix is changing the framerate somehow. Or, the source has duplicate frames and something is detecting those duplicate frames and discarding them.
I would try the following: Open the full source with StaxRip. Use the Preview to identify the five minute segment you want to encode. You can remove the audio streams so you are left with just the video. That process takes the source, does the conversion, and creates an output file that should match the frame rate of the source.

I have problems with this all the time.
Frame rate goes up to 50 and NVEncC encodes unbearably long. I use another AVS filter: fieldDeinterlace. :(
