Well, that's certainly a MAJOR upgrade, and a long time coming.

I do a lot of encoding / transcoding of movies & TV series, etc, and the more power you've got, the faster it all gets done.

There comes a time when we are all running out of time, so the faster we can do stuff, the better.

I rarely use Staxrip, my "go to" is Ripbot264 (but a modded build), have been using it for decades, in one form or another.

And as the saying goes, "Happy wife, happy life".

Nope 4 different downloads and attempts to get it to run and nope it won't open. It let's me create the settings directory but when I double click on the exe file nothing happens it doesn't even appear in task manager.

I have no idea why this happens, you might try running it on a virtual machine to see if the problem resides on the host computer.

DGHDRtoSDR is now at version 1.16, and the parameters have changed quite a bit since then. I spent some time with optimizing the params for the current version, and the results look very good to me.

PQ sources:

HLG sources:

The PQ params are stolen from a post by Gispos here at Doom9, I only changed the value for "white" a little bit. The HLG params are the result of my own tests, I think they are not that bad...


Whatever, I still prefer DGHDRtoSDR over the FFmpeg offerings, but this is probably a matter of taste.

I don't know if this is what you are looking for. When preparing an encode I usually do a sample 10 minute encode to see the results. You can get a reasonable estimate of the bitrate and file size that way.

Hello Khun_Doug, most of the time I use two-pass encoding, and I have read that the first pass (the analysis) can be run in turbo mode (i.e., a fast pass) without significantly affecting the final quality, but saving hours of encoding time. This option is available in Handbrake, but I can't find it in Staxrip, and for a specific encoding I need to use Staxrip because I have to perform some filtering that is not available in Handbrake.

when using multithreading, a warning in green "nlmeans.avs did not load" but after a few seconds staxrip goes on to encode

Staxrip seems to be working as the encoded h264 video, from a dvd home mpg comes out fine. I'm wondering if there is a timing issue with the warning vs when all the modules loading? When using multithreading, staxrip is sluggish regarding changing settings such the width and height in resize but it does respond. The multithreading is about 2.5x faster. I went by the guide "How to set up a simple multithreaded QTGMC template for AviSynth".

Did the warning come up too soon? Is this normal behavior?

The warning comes up after starting the job. The warning, in green text, shows for about 3 seconds and after the program then goes on to encode.

I have tried all the filters recommended here:

But it always ends up generating a video that is at least 3 to 4 minutes shorter than the original video (which is approximately 1 hour and 30 minutes long) and it results out of sync audio


To “fix” it in a messy way, I import the original audio from the video and reduce the tempo with Audacity without affecting the pitch until it matches the exact time of the encoded video, and that's not a very elegant way to do it.

Is there a cleaner way to do it with Staxrip?

Convert to MKV first.

Anyway you can extract timestamps from MOV too.

Anyone noticed using this latest version of staxrip when converting it's slowing down after a few minutes? I have noticed it doing it and thought what was happening well when I looked at my drive it looked like it went offline and after a 5 or so seconds it come back on again and staxrip continued converting!! it's only doing this when using staxrip I tried several other applications and not once did the drive go offline.

i haven't used staxrip in a long time, i heard something about Auto CRF (VMAF scanning), where using something like SVT-AV1-HDR along with VMAF scoring can setup a auto chain where the encoder will using the VMAF score set the CRF value on the encoder.

Regarding x265 encoding, I would like to ask if there is a reliable procedure for estimating the bitrate within the same preset by setting a specific CFR.
I imagine that to do this I would have to encode a large part of the file and see the bitrate value produced, but this would take a long time.

Hi everyone. Relatively new to Staxrip.

So far so good. I love the fact you have all the Vapoursynth filters.

I've only been using it for one video at a time, but now I want to process a folder full of videos and having a heck of time figuring it out. When I configure one video in the way I want all of them to go, it says I cannot save it as a project template with a video loaded. However with nothing loaded, I have no audio, subtitles or anything else TO configure as a template. What is the preferred method?

For example, these are DVD's with light autocropping, so the end result might need to be ~704x480 anamorphic, but the program defaults are 1920x1080 progressive when you start it up... so not sure how to pick my parameters without something to bounce against.

What Emulgator forget to mention was all you should need to do, is download an AVX x265 build, and overwrite the one that is there.

Of course, with a CPU with a more advanced instruction set, faster encoding is achieved (not always noticeable).
