There are some cases where the evo filenames aren't the proper, so evodemux can't detect both. Renaming them to feature_1.evo and feature_2.evo always works.

a little suggestion: when I try to slowdown a ac3 track I have to type -libav additionally each time, because nero cant do that. so would it be possible to set that -libav switch as default for ac3 slowdown(or where it is else concerned as well) ?
nautilus7
27th February 2008, 16:24
Why can't you do it? I have decoded many ac3s with nero and applied slowdown the same time. You shouldn't get any problems. Decoding is a completely different stage than slowing down and takes place afterwards.
Thunderbolt8
27th February 2008, 16:36
dunno, each time I type 'eac3to input.ac3 output.ac3 -slowdown' i get the message that this type is not supported (nero audio decoder2) or something like that, so that I have to type '-libav' each time to have it work. so I was just wondering if it doesnt work with nero anyway, then it would make sense to set the -libav switch as default for this option.
nautilus7
27th February 2008, 16:50
Is the input 640 kbps? I think that eac3to gets confused because input file type and bitrate is the same and tries to slowdown without decoding, which of course isn't possible. When you set the -libav option it understands that it should decode and everything works fine.
You can do it in 2 steps:
eac3to input.ac3 temp.raw -slowdown
eac3to temp.raw output.ac3
Thunderbolt8
27th February 2008, 17:11
the input varies between 2.0, 5.1 - 192, 384 and 448 kbit/s files -> tv sources
nautilus7
27th February 2008, 17:18
Anyway, then only it has to do with the filetype being the same. It should work in 2 steps.

Dear Thunderbolt8, you are wasting both nautilus7's and my time by posting error reports which are as unspecific as that. Furthermore with this type of error reporting you're blowing up the size of this thread. Your error report should be one post long and contain all necessary information. Now your one little problem has already consumed 7 posts in this thread and still nobody knows exactly what your problem is. (At least I don't.) Is it really so difficult to post the eac3to log!?
Thunderbolt8
27th February 2008, 18:27
frankly said yes, because that copy&pase thing from the dos box somehow worked for me only randomly. anyway, Ill try again.
X:\eac3to>eac3to X:\input.ac3 X:\output.ac3 -slowdown
AC3, 2.0 channels, 2:35:13, 384kbit/s, 48khz
Decoding with DirectShow (Nero Audio Decoder 2)...
The DirectShow audio decoder didn't accept the input stream.
I get this result for all TV sources I wanted to slow down so far, as I said above 2.0, 5.1 sources with 192, 384, 448 kbit/s. each time, I had to type -libav manually, thats why I just wondered whether it might make more sense to add the -libav switch as default for this slowdown type, since one of eac3to aims also seems to be simplicity for the user.
nautilus7
27th February 2008, 20:38
Are you able to decode the ac3 file to wav or raw without any option set? I believe not... which means your problem has nothing to do with the slowdown thing.
The eac3to log is saved in the log.txt located in the same folder as the program.
Thunderbolt8
27th February 2008, 21:49
nope, the same error message :S
so its a problem with the ac3 stream (which otherwise doesnt give me any problems though)? im just curious, because as I said I had to use with with every TV source I slowed down so far, while some of them indeed had little errors I had to solve with delaycut, but others were clean.

Hey folks new to eac3to. I have small issue thats probably simple but not sure since I dont have a lot of experience with this. I jsut demuxed a DD+ stream from anHD-DVD and am tryingto convert it to AC3. However I am getting a "Conversion not supported" error and not sure what it means. Wrong codec? I have Nero 7 essentials and thought that was all I needed. Am I incorrect? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

The eac3to log is saved in the log.txt located in the same folder as the program.
And you can also pipe the output to a text file. You just need to do a little "cleaning up" afterwards, e.g.,
eac3to input.ac3 output.ac3 > output.log.txt
The cleaning up steps are simple. In Notepad, you can do an Edit | Replace pretty quickly:
- replace two dashes "--" with nothing
- replace two spaces " " with nothing
- first copy the LF character, past it in the "Find what" box and replace with nothing
It may seem like a lot, but once you do it a few times, it's pretty quick.

Unforunately I do not know how to create a logfile ( total newb) so I'll jsut write it out
"eac3to.exe "C:\Documents and Settings\Daniel Palacio\My Documents\WMV File Maker\output.ddp" "C:\Documents and Settings\Daniel Palacio\My Documents\WMV File Maker\output.ac3" -640 -nero
E-AC3, 5.1 channels, 3:07:22, 1536kibits/s, 48khz, dialnorm: -27db

Thats my result.

eac3to saves a log file of the last run command and its output in log.txt. Copy/paste from there next time. ;)
Try changing the path to just "output.ac3", remove -640, and change -nero to -libav.
Also, will eac3to get DTSWAV support?

I just recently got Surcode, and have now started doing DTS conversions. However it is ridiculously slow. I believe the problem is that the 6 wavs are being loaded, and the DTS file is being saved to the same hard drive.
I was wondering if it would be possible to add something like "tempFiles" flag. This way we could make sure that different hard drives are used for the wavs & DTS file (or any other conversion that needs temp files).
Thanks!

On a Q6600, it takes about 10 minutes to write a 2 hour long DTS file thats, say, 1.2GB. Doing some calculations, that turns out to be 2MB a second + 6*1.377MB/s for the WAVs = just over 10MB/s. With a HDD read/write speed of 70MB/s, I can assure you that its CPU limited, making it unnecessary for what you're asking. :)

Hey madshi, I've stumbled upon a PCM track that eac3to can't handle. It's the new Phantom of the Opera BluRay (AVC video + PCM audio).
Output from eac3to:
This might be a RAW/PCM file. Trying to figure out the details.
This will probably take a while. Please be patient...
The RAW/PCM file seems to have a bitdepth of 16 bits.
The RAW/PCM file seems to be big endian.
The RAW/PCM file seems to have 6 channels.
RAW/PCM, 5.1 channels, 2:21:06, 16 bits, 48khz
This audio conversion is not supported.
edit: Sample is screwed and it was me being dim with the command line - I'd left the "-640" parameter in my command line. Doh.
nautilus7
29th February 2008, 20:03
The sample you uploaded is complete silence, at least here. eac3to can't determine the # of ch, but if i set the -6 manually it decodes to 10 secs of silence.
What are you trying to do? The command line isn't shown in your post. Make a bigger sample also, but reproduce the problem before uploading.

OK, I screwed up, the "-640" switch had sneaked into my command line and for some reason, with this option included I got the above error. With no switches it actually converts OK.
Like this:
eac3to.exe "F:\POTO\POTO.pcm" "H:\POTO.ac3" -640I get the error.
Like this:
eac3to.exe "F:\POTO\POTO.pcm" "H:\POTO.ac3"It works. Oops.

But, you shouldn't get an error with -640 switch. Maybe you didn't type a space between the output name and the -640 switch? Anyway...

LOL. It's super fast.
:)
I have another little suggestion. In the video properties, the aspect ratio should be displayed at the end (or the beginning) and not between the framerate. I mean it should be VC-1, 1080p24 /1.001 (16:9) instead of VC-1, 1080p24 (16:9) /1.001.
Changed in v2.26.
will eac3to get DTSWAV support?
That's not planned right now. Where would you get such files from?

eac3to v2.26 released
http://madshi.net/eac3to.zip
* Haali Splitter replaced with internal splitter for EVO h264/AVC tracks
* external raw h264/AVC tracks can now be muxed directly to Matroska
* timestamps for h264/AVC MKV videos don't need to be rewritten, anymore
* gaps/overlaps in h264/AVC track of EVO files are detected now
* h264 aspect ratio is detected and written into MKV now
* Haali Media Splitter is not being used at all, anymore
* mkvtoolnix is not being used at all, anymore
* added detection for MPEG2 interlaced -> progressive mode change
* workaround for eacGui bug
Please note that h264 (re)muxing is considered "beta" right now. So don't delete your original source files yet, even if the muxed MKV seems to be alright on a quick check. We need some serious testing before we can declare h264 muxing stable and reliable.
Here are some things I found out about Haali's and mkvtoolnix' h264 muxing:
mkvtoolnix:
(1) Creates more correct timestamps than Haali for *some* h264 sources.
(2) Can't handle interlaced sources well.
(3) Sometimes creates MKVs which are out of sync with the audio tracks.
(4) Sometimes creates MKVs which show rainbow frames (only with some decoders).
(5) Seeking usually works well with the final MKVs.
Haali:
(1) Handles interlaced sources just fine.
(2) Audio is always in sync.
(3) No rainbow frames.
(4) Sometimes some timestamps are not fully correct, but the decoders don't seem to mind much?
(5) Seeking is often bad.
eac3to:
(1) Should combine all advantages of Haali and mkvtoolnix.
(2) Should have none of the problems of Haali and mkvtoolnix.
(3) Probably has some new bugs neither Haali and mkvtoolnix have... :o
(4) Needs some serious testing...

Hi,
Just noob question:
When I've got HDDVD source on HDD and inside audio:
English Dolby Digital-Plus 5.1 Surround
English DTS 5.1 Surround
French Dolby Digital-Plus 5.1 Surround
Spanish Dolby Digital-Plus 5.1 Surround
and I'd like to make separate DTS 1536kbps audio what command must I use?
Second: is possible to mux orginal VC-1 with DTS core to mkv and if yes give me exact command line please.
Sorry, but I have not any experience with evo rips...
Thx for understanding in advance.

First type
eac3to 1st.evo+2nd.evo
to get the track ids. Then type:
eac3to 1st.evo+2nd.evo video_id: video.mkv dts_audio_id: audio.dts
Read the first post. It's not very detailed, but it explains several things.

I just downloaded 2.26 and ran "eac3to -test" and I noticed that it saw Sonic as not installed. I do have it, and 2.25 picks it up just fine.
I just tried to run a convert with both versions. They both work, and the output is identical, so it seems that the -test display may be off. (Or maybe my computer is screwed :p)

wow thanks thats finally what weve been all waiting for I guess.
in the next days Ill go through all my AVC HD DVDs and also blu-rays (using xport to demux and eac3to to remux then), which gave me problems again and will compare the results.
for those who are interested in problematic AVC sources, the ones ive encountered so far are
- babel (HD) -> rainbow frames (but not very often)
- band of brothers 1st EP (HD) -> rainbow frames directly since the beginning for the complete episode (after few secs)
- basic instinct (BD) -> rainbow frames/distorted picture
- equilibrium (HD) -> seeking problems
- ghost in the shell (BD) -> distorted picture
- oldboy (BD) -> distorted picture
those problems all occur using ffdshow. some maybe dont, e.g. the rainbow frames of band of brothers or babel (at least as far as I have been reported) when using another decoder e.g. coreavc, so in this case mkvmerge only partly screws up the remux (since playback is fine with ffdshow from the source .evo). the other problems occur with all tested decoders so far (ffdshow, coreavc, vlc) in this case mkvmerge just made a mess.

Works just fine here with my French Terminator 2 (just retested it to be sure). I think nautilus7 had the right idea. This is a known bug in an older eac3to version. My best guess is that your browser has given you an old eac3to download. Run "eac3to" without any parameters to check which version you have. It must be v2.26. If it's not, clear your browser cache and redownload.

Yes, I am 100% sure it is v2.26.
All I simply did was demux from the original evos with eac3to, not evodemux, and rename to .dtshd.
My command was eac3to t2.dtshd t2.flac. Sonic 4.3 is installed.
When I tried again with 2.26 I think it progressed farther this time, before throwing the error. Before it seemed to get 2/3 of the way, now with 2.26 it seemed to almost reach the end before erroring.

Does the core extraction also fail with v2.26? That wouldn't make much sense because if you successfully demuxed the track with eac3to v2.26, core extraction should also work just fine. Of course you could try to demux and extract the core in one step. But it should really be the same as demuxing first and then extracting the core in a separate step.
As I said, I tested demuxing + core extraction half an hour ago with the French Terminator 2 HD DVD with v2.26 and everything worked just fine for me.
If the progress position where it throws the error changes all the time then I'd say that your PC is unstable because there's not really any way that this could should happen. Maybe your CPU is overclocked too much? Or maybe your harddisk needs a scandisk?
