I need DTS-HD samples.
madshi, i will provide to you all samples that i have. i will start preparing them, but it will took several days to cut and upload them.
should we cut the first 5MB of EVOB/M2TS files or demux and then cut from the raw dts tracks?

No. I don't give ETAs... ;)
Well, I wont give you my DTS-HD samples then... :p
Seriously, is it much different from HD DVD sub demuxing that needs time to be implemented?
should we cut the first 5MB of EVOB/M2TS files or demux and then cut from the raw dts tracks? Raw dts tracks is fine.
Here's pack 1 (http://www.sendspace.com/file/82hdgd). Rambo4 sample is 7.1 ch but i named it 5.1 by mistake!!!
Here's pack 2 (http://www.sendspace.com/file/b6cpe4).
Here is a list of the samples included in the 2 packs:
* Rambo 2 HD DVD (Master Audio 5.1 16 bit 48 KHz)
* Rambo 3 HD DVD (Master Audio 5.1 16 bit 48 KHz)
* Studio Canal trailer from the above discs (Master Audio 2.0 16 bit 48 KHz)
* Rambo 4 Blu-ray (Master Audio 7.1 24 bit 48 KHz)
* Sexy Beast HD DVD (High Resolution 5.1 24 bit 48 KHz)
* Testosteron HD DVD (High Resolution 5.1 24 bit 48 KHz)
* Mr Brooks Blu-ray (US) (Master Audio 5.1 24 bit 48 KHz)
* Master & Commander Blu-ray (EUR) (Master Audio 5.1 24 bit 48 KHz)
* The Orphanage Blu-ray (Master Audio 7.1 24 bit 48 KHz)
I have a few more discs with DTS-HD sound and will upload if necessary.

Stupid question - when ripping some audio - DTS I think it was - I get an error that Libav cannot handle it and that just the "core" is being ripped. What exactly is the core? Is it stereo or 5.1 or what? Just curious as occasionally this is all I'm able to use on some vids.

DTS-HD tracks have a conventional DTS core, which can be 5.1 or 6.1. The libav decoder cannot decode DTS-HD, it can however decode the core. If you just "rip" (which is a term commonly used for lossless extraction) libav is not involved at all. If you transcode audio by using libav then the additional DTS-HD information is been lost.

Does anybody have the "Queen Rock Montreal" Blu-Ray/HD DVD? This one is special cause the core is 48khz while the DTS-HD packages seem to be 96khz. Would be great to get a small sample of that DTS track!

[a04] This audio track contains only 16 bit of information.
[a04] The zero bytes were successfully removed.
Video track 2 contains 167654 frames.
eac3to processing took 34 minutes, 12 seconds.
Done.
im getting the lossless check failed error again when i tried to convert TrueHD to flac for some reason. i know this used to show up on the join spots of seamless branching movies, but it turned out to be a problem with nero and was fixed. Here however i got the error with a non-seamless branching movie (it's 300)... really weird, its the first time ive seen it like this and i was just wondering what could be causing it (i really doubt the TrueHD stream is damaged) or if it affected the flac in any way.
i dont think it did because 300 also comes with an uncompressed PCM and when i converted that to flac, i got no errors and the file size is completely identical to what i got from the truehd.
but... still pls look into it. if it turns out the error is irrelevant, u can have it not show up in your next release :)
oh and thx for u answer to my pcm gap question.

How do cut raw dts files?
A hex editor would do. Just cut off the file after the first few MBs. E.g. this one is nice and freeware:
http://www.mh-nexus.de/
Or I think this one should work, too:
"eac3to source.dts dest.dts -5mb"
How big?
5MB would be plenty.

on this site "DTS - Orchestra" and "DTS - SFX" trailers are byte by byte identical respectively with 00022.m2ts and 00004.m2ts from "DTS-HD 2008 High Definition Audio Demonstration Blu-ray Disc", but on the disc covers the number of channels for these two demos are not marked. however, i managed to find out that they are 7.1 with simple test as i mentioned here:
http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?p=1147644#post1147644
the site also says that they are 7.1, so it is double confirmation.
i have 3-4 DTS-HD MA samples that failed the test, i.e. ArcSoft can't decode them bit-perfectly.

It seems that I got proper DTS-HD channel, bitdepth and sample rate detection working now. At least it seems to work on all samples I've received as of yet.
I think I don't need any more 5.1 and 7.1 Master Audio samples. However, I'm a bit short on DTS-HD High Resolution tracks. Also if you can find some 6.1 DTS-HD tracks (either High Resolution or Master Audio), that would be nice, as well.

Thanks, these are good samples. Especially the first one: It was misidentified by the current official eac3to version as being Master Audio while in reality it's High-Resolution. The next eac3to version will identify it correctly.
Here's the log.
The file is clearly incorrectly structured. The TrueHD track is stored under the ID "0x81" which is the ID commonly used for AC3 tracks. TrueHD tracks are supposed to use the ID "0x83". That's why eac3to complains.
I hope this doesn't mean that conversion of those tracks to DTS or AC3 could be wrong.
Not really. But the next eac3to version will properly detect the channel configuration etc, anyway.

eac3to v2.49 released
http://madshi.net/eac3to.zip
* DTS parser sets correct channel mask now
* DTS-HD parser now properly detects format, channels and samplerate
* added support for ArcSoft DTS(-HD) Decoder
* added several tweaks to make ArcSoft Decoder behave correctly
* added ArcSoft test to the "-test" processing
* made ArcSoft Decoder default for DTS and DTS-HD decoding
As xkodi already found out, the ArcSoft DTS-HD decoder decodes everything we throw at it. So now we finally have full 7.1 DTS-HD Master Audio decoding!
If you guys find any DTS-HD tracks which are not properly detected by eac3to or which do not decode correctly, please let me know. All the samples that have been uploaded seem to work fine, though.

thank you, madshi! the changelog looks amazing!
i am so eager to use it, but run into troubles:
first, time when i run with "-test" switch:
C:\eac3to249>eac3to.exe -test
Nero Audio Decoder (Nero 7 or older) doesn't seem to be installed
Sonic Audio Decoder (4.3.0.169) works fine
ArcSoft Audio Decoder (1.3.2.49, 1.1.0.0) is not working correctly
.....
second, time when i run with "-test" switch:

Sonic Audio Decoder (4.3.0.169) works fine
ArcSoft Audio Decoder (1.3.2.49, 2.49.0.0) is not working correctly
.....
what should i do in order to get ArcSoft working? ASAudioHD.ax on the system is version 1.3.2.49, but which files should be 1.1.0.0 and/or 2.49.0.0?
madshi
27th June 2008, 20:37
@xkodi, I'm slightly confused. The "1.1.0.0" version number is correct. That's the version number of the ArcSoft "dtsdecoderdll.dll" which is doing all the work. The "2.49.0.0" indicates that eac3to didn't even find the "dtsdecoderdll.dll" dll. As a result (that's a bug) eac3to lists its own version number. Very strange. Why does it sometimes find the dll and sometimes not?
You could try adding search paths to these 2 directories:
C:\Program Files\ArcSoft\TotalMedia Theatre
C:\Program Files\Common Files\ArcSoft\MPEG Engine
Maybe that helps? FWIW, I had some trouble to get the decoder working in the beginning. I had to change some paths to make it work. But later I undid the path changes and still everything works fine for me now?
xkodi
27th June 2008, 20:46
adding:
C:\Program Files\ArcSoft\TotalMedia Theatre

As xkodi already found out, the ArcSoft DTS-HD decoder decodes everything we throw at it. So now we finally have full 7.1 DTS-HD Master Audio decoding!
Other then doing 7.1 decoding is there any other difference from the Sonic decoders? I only have a 5.1 set-up so I don't need 7.1.

adding:
C:\Program Files\ArcSoft\TotalMedia Theatre
C:\Program Files\Common Files\ArcSoft\MPEG Engine
to the search path doesn't help.
Ok, now my suggestions are getting dramatic:
(1) What happens if you point the command line to "C:\Program Files\ArcSoft\TotalMedia Theatre" and run eac3to with that directory as the active directory?
(2) As a last test does copying all files of the two ArcSoft folders mentioned above fix the problem?
do my dtsdecoderdll.dll and ASAudioHD.ax are same as yours:
dtsdecoderdll.dll
MD5 52191f0d600ba19065ace3720b76ed87
ASAudioHD.ax
MD5 bc9bc77e6ba97f43de5f0d739c07e114
Don't know how to calculate an MD5. But I'm using the official ArcSoft trial version for now. So if you're using the same one, there should be no difference in the dlls.
Other then doing 7.1 decoding is there any other difference from the Sonic decoders? I only have a 5.1 set-up so I don't need 7.1.
The Sonic decoder is pretty perfect for 5.1 decoding. However, with 7.1 tracks (and some 6.1 tracks) the Sonic decoder simply drops the back channels. If you used eac3to with the ArcSoft decoder you could ask eac3to to downconvert the 8 (or 7) channels to 5.1. eac3to would then mix the back channels into the surround channels. I think that's the better solution...

Madshi, you are absolutely amazing. Thank you very much for the new features!!!
Arcsoft decoder works fine here. My demo version expired so I ad to install it again to make it work:
C:\>eac3to -test
Nero Audio Decoder (Nero 7 or older) doesn't seem to be installed
Sonic Audio Decoder (4.3.0.169) works fine
ArcSoft Audio Decoder (1.3.2.49, 1.1.0.0) works fine
Haali Media Splitter (2008-3-29) is installed
Surcode DTS Encoder (1.0.29.0) is installed
MkvToolnix (v2.2.0) is installed

Ok, now my suggestions are getting dramatic:
(1) What happens if you point the command line to "C:\Program Files\ArcSoft\TotalMedia Theatre" and run eac3to with that directory as the active directory?
my path is actually "C:\Program Files\ArcSoft\TotalMedia Extreme", because i uninstalled the "Arcsoft TotalMedia Theatre Intro version" and installed "Arcsoft TotalMedia Extreme Trial version" which includes "TotalMedia Theatre". i've done this, because i am under the impression that the "Intro version" can't be purchased and registered and sooner or lated expires. so, probably that is the problem - eac3to works correctly with the "Intro version" only.
i've tried, what you suggested and here is the output of two subsequent runs of "eac3to.exe -test":
C:\Program Files\ArcSoft\TotalMedia Extreme>eac3to.exe -test
Nero Audio Decoder (Nero 7 or older) doesn't seem to be installed
Sonic Audio Decoder (4.3.0.169) works fine
ArcSoft Audio Decoder (1.3.2.49, 1.1.0.0) is not working correctly
Haali Media Splitter doesn't seem to be installed
Surcode DTS Encoder doesn't seem to be installed
MkvToolnix doesn't seem to be installed
C:\Program Files\ArcSoft\TotalMedia Extreme>eac3to.exe -test
Nero Audio Decoder (Nero 7 or older) doesn't seem to be installed
Sonic Audio Decoder is not working correctly
ArcSoft Audio Decoder is not working correctly
Haali Media Splitter doesn't seem to be installed
Surcode DTS Encoder doesn't seem to be installed
MkvToolnix doesn't seem to be installed
(2) As a last test does copying all files of the two ArcSoft folders mentioned above fix the problem?
do not understand where to copy those files, to the eac3to directory or somewhere else?
so, the right question is what is the difference between the "Arcsoft TotalMedia Theatre Intro version" and "Arcsoft TotalMedia Extreme Trial version" and how to make eac3to to work with the later?

But the ArcSoft decoder still works in GraphEdit for you?

Strange! Now even the Sonic decoder fails in the 2nd test run??

Sorry, I was unclear. Yes, I meant to copy all those files to the eac3to folder (only as a test).

Where can I download the Extreme Trial version?

eac3to v2.49 released
thanks! :)
so is eac3to basically now able to transport each lossless format (dts-hd(ma), truehd, lpcm) with each number of channels and each bitrate & khz 1:1 to flac or is there still something missing/not working out correctly atm?
edit: dts-hd is not completely lossless yes, but I meant this as well -.-

I'm having the same issue as xkodi.
1st test - TMT trial installed
2nd test - TMT trial uninstalled
3rd test - same as 2
4th test - TMT re-installed
http://www.cstone.net/~dk/arcsoftissue.JPG
The trial I'm using is "arcsoft_totalmediatheater_engintro.exe" that I downloaded on 6/11.
During all of the tests above, I had dtsdecoderdll.dll and ASAudioHD.ax copied to my eac3to install library.
I'm running Vista Ultimate 32-bit SP1.

yes, works perfectly in GraphEdit. is there any chance that WinXP SP3 causes the problem?
Where can I download the Extreme Trial version?
Extreme Trial build 110:
http://base.arcsoft.com/downloads//tbyb/totalmediaextreme_retail_trial_e.exe
update to build 113 that adds DTS-HD MA support:
http://base.arcsoft.com/downloads/totalmediaextreme/arcsoft/TotalMediaExtreme_1.0.6.23_1.0.6.29_Update_ALL.exe
P.S. madshi, please download http://www.slavasoft.com/hashcalc/ and calculate the MD5 hash of your Arcsoft decoder files.

I have ArcSoft TotalMedia Extreme v1.0.6.28 RETAiL will this work with eac3to? If so should I be setting it as default for everything or just DTS-MA?

I have installed this version here: http://www.arcsoft.com/support/downloads/downloadnow.asp?downloadid=384 (I mention it as I see that xkodi's links are different that mines).
this is the "Intro version", it can't be purchased, but can be used for 15 days.
the links in my previous post are for the "Trial version" that can be used for 15 days and purchased after that.
I have ArcSoft TotalMedia Extreme v1.0.6.28 RETAiL will this work with eac3to? If so should I be setting it as default for everything or just DTS-MA?
1.0.6.28 do not have DTS-HD MA support, it only decodes the DTS core, you should update to 1.0.6.29. instead the version numbers i use the build numbers:
1.0.6.28 = build 110
1.0.6.29 = build 113

madshi, i've solved the problem:
C:\>c:\eac3to249\eac3to.exe -test
Nero Audio Decoder (Nero 7 or older) doesn't seem to be installed
Sonic Audio Decoder (4.3.0.169) works fine
ArcSoft Audio Decoder (1.3.2.49, 1.1.0.0) works fine
the only different file in C:\Program Files\Common Files\ArcSoft\MPEG Engine
between the "Intro version" and the "Trial version" is: ArcDemux.ax
eac3to doesn't work with ArcDemux.ax from the "Trial version".
P.S. both ArcDemux.ax are version 1.0.2.68, the working one has MD5 sum: abf8200f9d35b7be9dee79ff23a4ba52 and the broken one is with MD5 sum ef37767a2bd8faa20b13722a05ec2ae5. maybe the difference is because of the registration capabilities of the "Trial version".

Not sure. Still using XPSP2 here.

I get the same hashes as you.

Why don't you give it a try and report back if it works? :)
If so should I be setting it as default for everything or just DTS-MA?
You don't need to set it as default, eac3to has changed defaults already. If you don't tell eac3to otherwise, it will now use ArcSoft for DTS, DTS-MA and DTS-HR decoding.

this is the "Intro version", it can't be purchased, but can be used for 15 days.
So i guess the filters become unusable after 15 days aswell?

Argh. I don't know why ArcDemux.ax has any effect on eac3to. I'm not accessing it from within eac3to. Maybe the ASAudioHD.ax uses it internally?
Which ArcDemux.ax is newer? The one from the Intro version or from the Trial version?
And does the full retail version work?

Which ArcDemux.ax is newer? The one from the Intro version or from the Trial version?
they are both the same version 1.0.2.68, but comparing them byte by byte shows that are very very different.
And does the full retail version work?
AFAIK the Retail version is the same as purchased and registered Trial version.
btw is Arcsoft better for other formats like (E-)AC3 or currently it is unknown?
