madshi: did you test if the new Nero 9 filters can be used by 3rd-party programs?
I don't have access to Nero 9. Whoever has access to that can test whether the DirectShow audio decoder works in GraphEdit. My best guess would be no. Why should they revert the protection they added in Nero 8?

No. You can just delete the WAV files if you don't want any sounds. eac3to doesn't mind if the WAV files aren't there.
Then how about a compromise? Can you at least use foobar2k to do WAV->WAV, but apply per-track replay gain? The bloody things are just way too damn loud as they are. When listening to replay-gained music the success sound comes like the voice of Lucifer from the bowels of Hell.

I was wondering if anyone knows what format would give me the closest to the original that I could use with my ATI 4850 video card that allows for bit stream non PAP audio over HDMI to my Onkyo 805?
I have been using strictly AC3 format, but that is no better then using Spdif. I am a little confused over the different choices. I have tried to convert to PCM, but can't get it to work. Now I am trying LPCM and I will see how that works. After that I will attempt raw. Maybe it's my decoder as I am using the latest ffdshow.
Any help to find the closest audio to the Hi-Def used on Blu-Rays used would be most appreciated.
Thanks,
Mark

I have these little knobs called volume controls on my speakers...they do wonders. :)
I have to say, the first time you put these in, I jumped off my chair because I had my volume pretty loud and didn't expect any sound from eac3to. LOL
Not to make more work for you, but have you considered using the pre-defined sounds from Windows? That way we can assign our own WAV files or turn them off altogether from the Control Panel. At least you won't have to embed any sounds or provide any switches for this. :)

I'd suggest transcoding to FLAC. You can use madFlac for decoding. The audio should be transported as PCM over HDMI to your Onkyo in up to 7.1 with full bitdepth, as far as I can say. However, you can't mux FLAC into a m2ts file, if that's what you're trying to do?

I'm not sure if this has been discussed in this thread earlier: is there any quality loss when decoding regular AC3 tracks to WAV using the Nero 7 DirectShow filter, which outputs 24bit wave files which eac3to then converts to 16bit.

Hi !
Need your answers :-)
I'm demuxing a PCM track from a M2TS file with tsMuxerGUI.
And then using mkvmerge to add that track to a MKV file.
Is this right way to do it ?
And I know this have nothing to do with eac3to , BUT you are so good at this stuff so I hope you could point me at the right direction if I'm wrong :-)

eac3to doesn't convert them to 16bit (unless you ask it to). If you decode AC3 to 24bit WAV with the Nero 7 decoder there's no quality loss. If you tell eac3to to downconvert to 16bit the noise floor will ever so slightly increase. Whether you (or anybody) can hear the increased noise floor is something even the experts don't agree on. So don't expect to get a clear answer about that! The big question for me, though, is why decode the AC3 track in the first place?

If you demux to PCM then you can't add this to MKV. I guess you're demuxing to WAV? If you do that you may run into trouble with 24bit tracks cause WAV files with more than 4GB (or even 2GB) are problematic. I'm not sure if mkvtoolnix can handle them correctly. I'm not sure if TsMuxeR can create them properly, either. If your final aim is MKV then I suggest letting eac3to directly convert the PCM track to FLAC. That saves space and still gives you 100% identical audio quality.

Ok , But my Tvix cant handle multichanel flac, but TviX lates FW have HD-Sound passtrough :-) Yhen I would have PCM in my MKV ( If MKV allowed that) So FLAC is not a way to go for me, And I hope PCM should do it.

MP4 is a container. You mean AAC? Both AC3 and AAC are lossy codecs. So you shouldn't worry about quality loss when *decoding* the original AC3 track. The loss in audio quality is not during decoding but during the reencoding to the final AC3 or AAC track.

Not yet. But it will probably be added sooner or later.

mkvtoolnix doesn't accept PCM, but it accepts WAV. WAV is the same as PCM with just a little header in front of the PCM data. mkvtoolnix needs the WAV header because only that way it knows how many channels the PCM data has and which bitdepth etc...
Mkvmerge what completed now with NO errors.... Can I trust that
Looks good. But you've luck. The track is only 16bit and only 1:50 hours long. With 24bit PCM tracks or with longer 16bit tracks things might get more difficult.
Basically you can double check whether the MKV is alright by just playing the beginning and end of the movie. If you get proper sound at both beginning and end then the MKV should be fine.

There's a problem with AGM files.
DTS Pro Encoder will accept all AGM files made from DTS-HD Master Audio tracks, but will reject every single AGM file made from TrueHD tracks (haven't tried with LPCM as source). The encoder pops up am message saying that this isn't a valid source file. This happens all the time regardless the source track is 16bit or 24 bit. In addition, mono wavs created from TrueHD tracks work fine with the AGM packer of the encoder and the actual encoder afterwards.

but will reject every single AGM file made from TrueHD tracks
if the decoded TrueHD track is less than 4GB the problem is not there.
@madshi
just to save you time in investigating the problem:
at least when eac3to decodes TrueHD track to AGM and the decoded file is over 4GB, eac3to writes wrong value for SAMP chunk in the header.
example:
the created AGM file size: 4877833220 bytes
SAMP chunk value: 4877833220 - 260 = 0x122BDD300
eac3to writes for SAMP value: 00D3 BD22 0000 0000
instead the correct value of: 00D3 BD22 0100 0000

Stupid question :), if I demux m2ts with eac3to which has audio delay of -9 ms, do I then need to add -9 delay in TSMuxer when I mux it back to m2ts? Or does eac3to somehow fix that delay when it demuxes it.

Hi, I've lurked here for a long time and finally registered recently. I do have a question, and I realize this might have been answered somewhere along the way, but I'm new to this and honestly all of this information can get very confusing and frustrating to a newbie. So please accept my apologies if a question like this is annoying.
I've recently learned how to back my Blu-Ray's to a .mkv container on my PC using MeGUI and a plethora of other programs. I just bought a new Blu-Ray and when I open it using tsMuxer I only see one English audio track which is in TrueHD. When I demux it, it comes out as a AC3 file, but after reading this thread I'm thinking that's not how I should extract the stream. My question is how do I remove the TrueHD stream from the .m2ts file and then how do I convert that to AC3? I've read quite a bit of this thread, I saw at one point someone said something in regards to there being an AC3 stream that's coupled with the TrueHD stream. If that's true, I would just need to extract the AC3 stream, correct? I'm just unclear on how to do that.
I was able to figure out by myself how to backup a blu-ray, which took awhile, but for some reason I'm really lost as to how I can get this to work. I searched for guides on how to do this and didn't really come up with anything, or at least anything that I really understood. I hate asking something when I'm sure 95% of everyone here will roll their eyes, but this is a last ditch effort. If anyone could help it would be appreciated. Thanks.

Maybe, haven't test that. With DTS-HD, size is not a problem though.
DTS-HD bit-depth is known from the beginning and thus the correct size, i suspect that with TrueHD size is calculated at the end after the check if the last byte is zero or not and probably the calculation at the end is broken and assumes that the maximum possible size is 4GB (32bit) like in the WAV file, but AGM supports 64bit size.

I suggest this way: http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?p=1148640#post1148640
You just need to modify the command in the last step to correspond to the TrueHD/AC3 combo track (change the extension of the output file to .ac3). This will give the AC3 track that already exists into the Blu-ray. If you also need the TrueHD, change extension to .thd.

By the way, only the extraction of the audio track(s) should be repeated. It's probably slower if the entire extraction process (video, audio, subtitles) is repeated just to get audio right.

Does EAC3TO also fix delay in TrueHD files when demuxing HD DVD evo. When I demuxed it, EAC3TO didn't mention anything about fixing TrueHD delay, only with E-AC3 tracks.
It's been said a million of times. TrueHD bitstream can't be delayed. Only when converting TrueHD to another format it can be delayed.

Hi, I already have a Nero 8 installed yet the program keeps failing to open Nero Audio Decoder 2 (I am trying to convert AAC audio into AC3) and it just keeps blaring a siren in my ear every time I try
What gives? My nero is registered.
