I have this small mov file that I downloaded from the internets ;) and the video doesn't show up in MPC when Directshow is selected for Quicktime files. Mediainfo says the video codec is jpeg. The file plays fine with Quicktime filters or in VLC.

anybody noticed that external mpeg splitter(1,0,0,4) obviously has a high cpu usage when demuxing some .vob files ? the last build i test ok on those .vob files is mpeg splitter 20060226(1,0,0,2) by celtic_druid.
maybe those .vob files have some questions,because after remuxing by some mpeg tools ,external mpeg splitter(1,0,0,4) works as well as mpeg splitter 20060226(1,0,0,2) by celtic_druid on those files.

It seems, according to VLC Media Player, this is a MOV[MP4V+TWOS] file. With MPC you'll get an error in which it isn't able to connect the audio pin to a certain filter, but when you close this window you will still get video as MP4V is no problem for the MP4 Splitter and FFDShow.
I don't know if this is a splitter issue, or just the simple absence of some sort of TWOS Decoder. (afaik FFDShow doesn't have one)
Even with VLC you won't get audio, so I guess this must be some special combination of video and audio then.

For my part I don't have error from MPC, it just freezes while opening the mov file using a lot of CPU (50%) and I have to kill it.
I use the MP4 splitter from MPC and one of the latest version of ffdshow with just postprocessing.
In the ouput options of MPC I use VMR9 Renderless with render in 3D and bilinear (PS 2.0).

Any ideas ?

Probably the same problem I had with VS' autogenerated Manifest file. XP just doesn't like them (2k doesn't care). I'll edit it and relink.

Thanks, updated the mirror. The new VSFilter works on XP for me. However, I'm afraid all the other filters compiled on 2006-03-08 share the same problem (can't regsvr32 mp4splitter.ax matroskasplitter.ax etc)

Default is to generate manifiest files. I just turned it off in all projects. Not sure how usefull half the filters are outside of MPC though with no interface to configure them.

Forgive my stupidity, but how do I know that the vsfilter.dll file is actually being used to render subtitles?

After regsvr32 c:\windows\system32\vsfilter.dll, my MPC context menu shows nothing different during playback of softsubbed files. The various options items also show nothing new, and I cannot find any new filters in the Add Filter... window.

Also, how to disable MPC's own internal subtitle renderer? There are no options that I can see.

If VSFilter is auto-loaded, you'll see a green arrow icon in the task tray.

You can force it to be loaded in .avs too, like this:

To turn off MPC's internal renderer, uncheck Play-Subtitles-Enable. If it is enabled, and if VSFilter is auto-loaded and enabled too, you'll see the subs double.

OK, I found out how to do it. Maybe in the future, a basic instruction file should be placed with the release indicating how to go about enabling it, since no GUI is provided.

First, Play-Subtitles-Enable must be unchecked, but also, the DirectVobSub filter must be added to the list of external filters and set to Prefer.

Unfortunately, DirectVobSub doesn't even provide antialiasing, so the subtitles look pretty bad on my 21" monitor at 1600x1200. So I decided to disable it and use MPC's internal renderer, which looks really nice.

Some of the external filters are very useful, but there are a few filters too that I've never tried.

Basically, VSFilter is for those who:
(1) don't use MPC.
(2) use MPC but don't (or can't) use MPC's sub renderer, because they use, for instance, Overlay.
(3) use it for hardsubbing via .avs.

But technically, it's not that VSFilter does not provide antialiasing. It's just that VSFilter doesn't know the fact that you are watching your video in the full-screen mode in the downstream.
If you select "DirectVobSub | General | Resolution | Doubled resolution" VSFilter too uses the 200% resolution.

Worked like 6.4.8.8/9 or sometimes I see attempt to render subs synchronously with video, but subs flickers and video render has many dropped frames (I use vmr9+3d, but other renders output didn't help as well).

The last couple versions, overlay mode has had grey padding borders. (Overlay is the only one that consistently works correctly for me.) Any chance to see these go to black again in the future? VMR9 also has them, but they're not noticeable because no tv->pc conversion is performed so all output is clamped (on mine) anyway.

It looks like they're RGB 16/16/16, instead of YUV 16/128/128 or RGB 0/0/0, which is what they probably should be.

MPC's builtin d2v sourcefilter is rather old (2003) and I think doesn't support the newer (1.4.6) dgindex format... I couldn't play it...
But I have tried an old DVD2AVI v1.86 on a small trailer vob: MPC plays it well, so it seems that the sourcefilter has to be updated ...

It's a rather old problem. Mpeg2 decoder dropps frames with some streams when other decoders (ffds lavc/libmpeg2, pdvd, windvd, etc) don't.

I have a .mp4 file(e:\test\sample.mp4),wmp 6.4 and mpc 6.4.8.7 play it well.
mpc 6.4.9.0 didn't play it(e:\test\sample.mp4), just hanged there, cpu usage 100% . when that file was moved out of that fold (e:\test\), mpc 6.4.9.0 played the same file but at(e:\sample.mp4) well.
other .mp4 files in e:\test\ can be played by mpc 6.4.9.0.
all mpc internal filters are disabled, haali mp4 splitter+nero video decoder+coreaac audio decoder are used.

thanks for your hinting, i have found why mpc 6.4.9.0 hanged there. another file (e:\test\sample.mp3) caused the problem .after rename sample.mp4 or sample.mp3,mpc 6.4.9.0 works well.

Reinstall ffdshow (or CoreAVC) just in case, with h264 enabled. That might help.

I'm having a problem with Ogg Theora. .ogg that played with older MPC's internal oggsplitter (altho imperfectly) doesn't open at all now. It plays with Haali's splitter tho.

Ogg theora isn't supported and never will be.

You would need to enable DivX4 support in ffdshow since that is also the option to handle MP4V.

Works fine here, although I am running a newer build. Nothing that should effect mp4 playback though.

Do you mean Gabest's OggSplitter.ax is only for OGM and not for OggFile?
What happned? Theora.ogg was once supported (altho imperfectly) by MPC as CoRoNe reported too.

Even now, if Theora is put in .dsm it plays perfectly with ffdshow, both via MPC and via Gabest's DSMSplitter. So I don't think Gabest hates Theora.
