Perhaps the Haali renderer needs a graphics card with PixelShader 2.0?
Not just "graphics card with PixelShader 2.0" but the fast one.
That mean GFFX5200 - 5600 owners not in the list.

Since cvs 02/16/2006 broken is the playback of an *.ac3 audio, if no internal splitter is used ("DTS/AC3" is *disabled*). It seems that newer cvs shots aren't able anymore to connect to the standard ac3 parser filter (mpg2splt.ax).
Are you talking about external ac3 files or avi files containing ac3 audio ?
I have tried the latter with the 2006.02.26-2 build, and I have got no error (AC3 filter is installed and is set in the Overrides to Prefer)

As i wrote. A *single* elementary stream AC3. Not muxed inside anything. Say it with simple words:
test.m2v
test.ac3
test.mp2
Thats elementary streams. Try to play the "test.ac3" with disabled internal splitters/decoders. Or try to play "test.m2v" with optioned "auto load audio files". Then the actual cvs shots from MPC are unable to connect to anything.
Try it with the official 6.4.8.7 release, and it works due the fact "AC3 parser filter" will be used.
Sure, programm streams with muxed ac3 will work, anyway you use the internal or external demuxers. But that was not the question :-)

I'm still able to play elementary .AC3 and .DTS streams using MPC's internal decoder filters and FFdshows filters...
No problems passing the SPDIF bit-stream to my external DSS amplifier :D

Yes. But that is not the point. With internal splitters it works. DISABLE all in "options" => "filters" so MPC have to use the system standard splitter. MPC cvs shots are currently unable to user the system directshow architecture for ac3 elementary streams.
The workarounds are known (using internal splitter). But that was an bug report, not an question ;-).

I am very sure this this is only a temporary fault because Gabest is currently busy by implementing all the neat new features we can preview here. Otherwise I would take a closer look at the source code. But there is absolutely no reason for that. Thats all inofficial builds.
At the other side, since i play with that builds, i really LOVE the new VMR9 mixer mode. In dual display mode and the right decoders, I'm able now to play the content on both screens hardware accelerated in the right aspect ratio, dragging MPC heavily around without freezing anymore. GREAT work.
There are many possibilities to make currently video playback risky. Elecards actual MPEG2/MPEG4-AVC demuxers as example are breaking the functionality with many softwares (DVDShrink as example). xvid.ax have problems with thumbnail views of some avi's with FOURCC 'DIVX' and let crash the whole explorer.exe. Haalis Splitter is a great example of innovative programming, but far away to be stable in all points ... Elecards actual video decoders (anyway MPEG2 or MPEG4-AVC) will cash the whole system, if DXVA-acceleration is enabled and in the stream are defective i-frames.
If I wouldn't be sure that MPC wouldn't have this (temporary) little problem, i never would shout it out here ;-)
A nice day to evelyone,
Dreamer

Haali Splitter is one of the most stable programs in video decoding that there is, if not THE most stable one.
As i recall from Haali, 9 out of 10 bugs reported to him were typically caused either by mpc or by ffdshow or anything else.
As for VMR9 mixer mode -- i fully agree with you. It is great innovation, that one alone worth incrementing version number for mpc :P

Now, its a splitter, not decoder, or? ;-) [Sorry, only joking]
I have here an really good arsenal of test samples for helping me to get an good overview, which new tested directshowfilter is redundant enough to survive an hard day with me. Most of the problems, thats sure, will never occours if you are limited in daily work with ordinary, correctly encoded DivX AVI or MPEG2 programm streams straight out from your favourite software encoder.
But when you start to test around with defective streams, then redundant code is absolutely important. And thats not an theoretical aspect, its an usual daily job for example with digital broadcasting.
Please don't think I want to bash here around, but HAALIs Media Splitter isn't in my favourite list. Ok, back to MPC, or i stray from the topic MPC.

Hhmmm... I have Nero 6.x installed, and it (Nero splitter) kicks in when I disable the DTS/AC3 source filter and the AC3 transfer filter (MPC 2006.02.26-2) (either if I open the test.ac3 or the test.m2v (from a vob file created with DGMPGDec v1.4.6 ; AC3 is 2ch))

I am very sure this this is only a temporary fault because Gabest is currently busy by implementing all the neat new features we can preview here. And not only that, but also splitting of Vorbis Audio files has gotten worse.
I also tested the OGG Splitter with THEORA --> CPU: normal, audio: normal, video: the video image hangs.
But with another THEORA file the video part crashes and only audio is rendered.
First THEORA file I used --> http://www.polycrystal.org/lego/movies/A_New_Computer--small.ogg (3,46MB)
Second THEORA file --> http://www.novell.com/linux/xglrelease/transparency.ogg (3,74MB)
Too bad the OGG Splitter still has its issues with THEORA and Vorbis timeseeking.
And also the MPEG Splitter has some difficulties with certain MPEG1 Video files concerning timeseeking. (the video hangs, sound goes on)

1. @B.F.: "In new MPC version NumPad buttons doesn't work correctly."
Confirmed: 5->9, 8->2, etc. and not always working !
2. Pixel shaders is not working with Haali's renderer. Is it a feature or a bug?
3. Haali's renderer and external vsfilter doesn't working, when the 'extended to 4:3' option is used in vsfilter.
4. The built-in Subtitle engine is not remembering the latest selected language with external subs (vsfilter does). Eg. test.avi, test.HU.srt, test.EN.srt : always test.EN.srt is loaded by default.
5. Haali's renderer and the built-in Subtitle engine: *.sub files are unsynced (format: {1676}{1737}test) . It works okay in WMR7
That's for now :)
And thanks for the SQV3 and mp3 fix in mov !!!

Now, the directshow filters of nero are doing since Nero 6 funny things (remeritising quartz.dll, qdv.dll ...). And its a funny idea for me to use them since 7.0. For first ndparser.dll tries to control the input stream, only after that half of the nero decoders says "hey, i refuse to work because i only want to work with my own applications."
No, I think Nero 7 has pushed the sheet too far thus definitely with such actions. If you thinks about it more exactly and you like your system, either you have to deregister all Nero COM objects instantly. Or be more consequent and stop using the whole Nero package.
I don't like such wobbling putting wool milk sows. An old rule says "keep it stupid and simple". No, no Nero here someplace.
If you don't like to think deeper about your directshow architecture, then its legitime to build in splitters/decoders in the application (VLC and MPC to be back on topic), but gambling around system wide with such actions is very unwise.
Only two simple examples:
1) Use an super duper option-overloaded MPEG2 decoder. Deinterlacing inside them makes you feeling good in your player equipment. But use an appliaction which is allocating the directshow architecture for import media files like Canopus Procoder, and the same decoder will garbage your whole work process because the application thinks all the time that its non-interlaced content.
2) use an super cool audio decoder which is able to work with an own matrix for making dolby surround from stereo input and output them to your cool 5.1 speakers. The same setup is very unwise for encoding an stereo input stream, because you will lose then almost all of the audio center signal and the background information ...
No, I'm not a friend of overloaded directshow filters. The features have to be inside the application, not in the decoders. Otherwise you would have too much interferences.
could you please explain what this is and what benefits there are? :)
Faster speed compared to VMR9, ability to connect with it using YV12 colorspace (which is internal colorspace in MPEG), thus avoiding redundant colorconversions.
And DAR with VMR9mixer works automatically now. I.e. if you have anamorphic video with DAR specified it's automatically resized.

I don't know if anyone can relay this to Gabest, but whenever I try to queue up more than one file at a time using the cmd line switch “/add” while MPC is closed, it usually only enqueues the first or a few of the selected files.

thankyou Egh! i've been trying to get somebody to explain for a while now! :)

It is VMR9 in the sense it's DirectShow Renderer as well.
Only that it uses shaders for bicubic resizing, and that's forced in the renderer, i.e. it doesnt' work if no PS 2.0 found on the system, cause, naturally then it would be just another VMR9. Causual renderer uses bilinear interpolation, cause that's one which is naturally built-in the 3D accellerators from the times they were born.
To be more technical, mpc allocates DirectShow surface and renders to it, in the first mode. In second and third modes, it creates two triangles and maps the video onto them. So resizing and other transformations like rotations in the 3D mode are done in hardware, using simple bilinear interpolation. These operations don't involve shaders per se.
Proper bicubic is supposed to be two-pass process even, and as far as I know that's the main reason for a new separate renderer. To simply put it, it wasn't possible to implement twopass via shaders in a current mpc shaders' implementation. Thus mpc bicubic resizing in vmr9 mode is supposed to be inferior in speed to Haali renderer. Don't forget that both resizors are written by haali himself though! :approved:

Well it same renderer but in different mode, as i understand. Thus it certainly doesn't require shaders support. VMR9 per se requires the card to be DX9-compatible, I think mixer mode is available on all those cards as well. Correct me if i'm wrong :)
Also! I created a separate thread for Haali renderer, not to offtop here. http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?t=108088
Ask your questions and post bugs there. Repeat several last questions and bug reports in that thread as well, cause I'm getting info from Haali on those.

VMR9 in simple bilinear mode, in theory work on any DX7 compatible GPU.
But it only in theory.
It work normally on GF3 and higher GPU, but work slow on GF and GF2 based GPU.
On other GPU it can work normally or not work at all.
