@ Kurt
Can´t open all your lates ZIP Archives with 7Zip, WinRAR or normal ZIP. Have you changed your packer?Hi Joe,
Do you mean you're also unable to unpack Yamb-1.4_20060103.zip?
If so, I've not encountered any such troubles with any of the three tools you mentioned
Cheers

I had checked mp4tags code and there were only routines for jpg and png. I didn't include png support coz I'm lazy... :o but I can add it for sure.
I don't know about the code, but I've tried with a build of mp4tags (the mpeg4ip tagging tools, right?) and it works also with gif. Try it and let me know.

It seems like corrupted file download if using download manager. I used free download manager client for the download yesterday and downloaded file is corrupted.
Download using a single thread from your browser should fix this. That's how my download works after a few try out.

aa right. It works...restriction is for extraction. Sorry for the confusion. I'll add it asap.

I think Hyper Shinchan means the new Yamb build.
You should use SINGLE thread download using browser. Multi-thread download using Download Manager seems to have problem here, file corrupted.

Yes, I mean that, right. I'll try it.
P.S. why did you write "Hyper Shinchan"??? It's kinda strange... you can call me also Shinchan, if you think that "Hyper" is weird.

BTW, is it possible to add the copyright string (it's not a great feature, but actually it's the only metadata specified in the standard, but that it's not displayed from any player.....)?

mp4tags hasn't this command as you can see:
http://kurtnoise.free.fr/mp4tags_cmdl.gif
There is a copyright switch in mp4box but this is not displayed by a dshow players as you have noticed. For the moment, you can write your copyright style in "Comments" part if you want...MPC displays it fine.

Why don't you try it by yourselves? It supports gif, at least in the 6.0.0.18 release (that it's the one I'm using). I can upgrade to 6.0.1 if you need it.
It doesn't show the animation in the animated gif, anyway (but I think that it's the same with animated png).
About the copyright, I was referring to the MP4Box one can you add it? It's displayed from Crappy Time (former Quick Time):D

Yeah, it seems quite good, indeed it seems better than mp4tags, it also output the mp4 in another file from default (good idea). If you will implement it, do you think to add all the switch or not? It's quite a long list.

All switches aren't necessary I think (especially TV shows, podcats...). But I like copyright and lyrics, though it works only with iTunes.
An other good point for this tool : it doesn't screw up chapters atom.
An other bad point : it supports only unicode characters. At least for the windows build. Fortunately, it's not a real problem for me coz I can use my Unicode-to-UTF8 conversion routine...;)

That's right! Your Yamb is really good for the tagging with special characters (and it works also with japanese characters!!!).
BTW how can i use special characters in the command line, until it's not included in Yamb? there is a way to switch the prompt to UTF-8?

I'd just like to add some info I've gathered after looking at lots of mpeg4 files (audio & video). Not that I understand vast swaths of the specification, but here goes anyway.
• iTunes doesn't let you embed anything except jpeg (progressive or otherwise) or png. Everything else it converts. Up until some iTunes 6.0x release, it wasn't capable of showing any other kind of image. It can currently show a gif of a pdf (at least a single-page pdf) & probably anything Quicktime can, but nobody should ever, EVER support that. Not everyone is on the latest iTunes. Up until some 6.0 version, if the image wasn't nearly 72dpi it wouldn't display either (i damn near scratched my head off trying to figure that one out some time ago because I embedded outside of iTunes).
• iTunes doesn't like uuid atoms in (what iTunes must think of as MY hierarchy) moov.udta.meta.ilst. Any uuid atom there will cause iTunes to completely ignore all metadata. Remove the uuid atom, and iTunes will float your boat.
• mp4tags (or anything based on mpeg4ip's libmp4v2) works very fast (compared to AtomicParsley, that's for sure). But since there is no perfect mpeg4 metadata tagger, libmp4v2 comes with a price too. When you alter a tag, what happens is a determination is made as to where the moov atom is with respect to mdat. If mdat comes before moov (libmp4v2's favorite), then there are essentially no penalties - except that it sucks for streaming. However, if moov comes first (great for streaming, but not so hot for libmp4v2), the original moov atom is duplicated at the end (thus mdat is "sandwiched" between the 2 moov atoms), and the original is NULLed out to be a free atom. That's the libmp4v2 penalty - you have to use a seperate optimize (mp4creator -optimize) on the file to really finish the task of mp4tags - I don't think most programs that use libmp4v2 do that optimizing. Now if you have lots of artwork in an audio file, say that's 600K of new free atom space. If its a video file - it's more like 1.5MB (at least). That adds up after over the course of a few dozen files. Serious consideration should be given to implementing that additional step of optimization.

A new build for testing (http://yamb.unite-video.com/Yamb-1.4_20060118.zip)...
Changes:
Introduce mov container for muxing/splitting/joining/extracting.
Add "optimize mp4 file layout" option for tagging part. This is available if mp4creator is detected in mp4tags folder.
utf8 datas are converted in unicode for extract infos panel.
Add copyright switch.

hello, i just wanted to post a possible bug with YAMB 1.4. But before i go on to tell you about whats wrong with your program, i just wanted to say that its quite awesome, and has helped me tremendously. Ok now for the possible problem.
I think there are some problems with the way you calculate the PAR on import. I wanted to change the aspect ratio of a video of mine to 4:3 NTSC, so i selected your preset for 4:3 NTSC, and recoded it. After playing it, i realized that the aspect ratio was still incorrect. After looking at the stream information, I realized the stream had been assigned a ratio value of 10:11. I am not positive how the values compute, but i read in another post that 4:3 NTSC should turn out to be 8:9. I enabled the option to show the command line that it was passing to MP4box, and sure enough, when importing the video again with your preset of 4:3 NTSC, the command line value is ar=10:11. Perhaps this needs to be changed to 8:9 to obtain the correct aspect ratio.
I'm kinda a noob with all this video editing stuff, so I may be completley wrong, but this was my experience anyways. I resolved the problem by copying the command line into a batch file and replacing the values with 8:9.
Thanks again for making YAMB, it has worked quite nicely aside from this small problem.
Also, maybe you guys can tell me why ffdshow isn't obeying the aspect ratio, but VLC is ?
bond
22nd January 2006, 12:03
Mind you... I wonder why Jean does not use the more familiar expression "FPS" ?because the timescale isnt the framerate
mp4, as a container handling variable framerate, is totally framerate agnostic. if you want to know the average framerate of a mp4 file you need to calculate it from the duration and the framenumber. mp4box -info doesnt do that, but mp4info from mpeg4ip does it
BTW how can i use special characters in the command line, until it's not included in Yamb? there is a way to switch the prompt to UTF-8?i wrote a howto about that here (http://www.hydrogenaudio.org/forums/index.php?showtopic=12075&st=50&p=344927&#entry344927)

Blame SMD for these "bad" values...:D

xvid uses 10:11 for ntsc 4:3, but that might be the value needed for asp, dunno if its different for avc?
edit: checked the specs, 10:11 is correct for avc
8:9 is definitely not mentioned in the avc specs
Also, maybe you guys can tell me why ffdshow isn't obeying the aspect ratio, but VLC is ?in directshow you need to make sure the ar info is passed to the video renderer
iirc this can be done in ffdshow by checking the overlay mixer option

Tnx for the hints Bond!
About the aspect ratio, it seems that it's correct, the Annex E of the AVC/H.264 specs says that it's 10:11 for 720x480 NTSC with horizontal overscan.
Anyway, when I change the AR with Mp4Box it set the correct AR, but it flags the resolution in the MP4 as 0x0. Is it normal? Anyway I prefer to set it during the encoding.
I'm sorry about the gif's shit that I was claiming, but I only use ITunes and MP4tags and i've not noticed that they were converted into jpg. Anyway that new tools claims that it won't have the conversion routine in the Windows version, and they are avaible only in MACOS. Why???

I'm a little sad about the copyright option. I've tried it a lot of times, with Yamb and with the commandline but it doesn't show the copyright on QT.
QT 7 (aka crappy Time) doesn't say a single thing, while QT 6.5.2 (the latest good version of qt imho) says that it doesn't support the encoding of the notes.
Can you try it? I've tried it also with the prompt setted to 65001 table (utf-8) and with the correct fonts (as explained by Bond), but it doens't work. I think that MP4Box doesn't set it in UTF-8/16 or at least it's the only possible explanation.
Please try it.
About AtomicParsley: for me it doesn't work with utf-8, it says it also in the docs (at least in the file that i've downlaoded from Kurt website):
• cygwin - utf8 output is disabled. I have no unicode typefaces in my win98se OS, I have no idea if it even has any notion of unicode, and I have no idea how to get bash to switch typefaces even if I did.
So there isn't utf-8 output (If i try to use a special character like "à" it doens't show it.
P.S.: this program seems to be very good on MacOS, but it seems to be a piace of shit on Windows imho.

copyright switch from mp4box works fine but this is not available in any dshow players or quicktime (maybe with Osmo4 but I didn't test it).
Go to Extract tab and load your file copyrighted, you'll see some infos about that.
Concerning AtomicParsley: like I said iconv routines have been disabled for windows builds. So, for the moment you can't use it with special characters. I don't know if it's really necessary to include it into YAMB. Maybe, launch a poll and ask to other people whether they are interested...:)
btw, I can build an AtomicParsley GUI for you with utf8 support if you want...but outside Yamb.

The copyright setted by MP4Box is the same setted with QT 7, as far as I know.
It's the only avaible usage of the UDTA box specified in the specs (I can also compare the copyright atoms of QT and MP4Box if you need), and QT 6 says that the encoding is uncorrected, it's not the metadata that it's unsupported (I'll check it better late, you know that I could be easily wrong).

The source to mp4box/main.c:
gf_isom_set_copyright(file, "und", cprt);
seems to put in a lang code of "und" not (for me) "eng". It also gets hardcoded in cprt_New in box_code_base.c
That, and it seems to strip out all iTunes-style metadata. But I have a lovely copyright there. Sure its not visible.... that's the charm of it!
-----------
So in case that didn't spell it out for you, you will need to wait until mp4box lets you specify what language code you want on the command line before it will work.
Or complain to Apple that 'und' isn't a supported language.

I have no idea. As long as it works for me on Mac OS X, I'm satisfied. And on Mac OS X, I don't need cygwin.
If when you use cmd.exe you can guarantee a specific encoding (say always utf-16), then something like StringReEncode(atomPayload, "UTF-8", "UTF-16") could possibly work. If its windows codepages or whatever, then you are out of luck; if its something in (google: "man iconv_open") encodings, then it could work.
