btw, there is a new build (http://kurtnoise.free.fr/Yamb/Yamb-1.3.2_20051122.zip) with some improvements for this trick. You can test it...now it shows me simply nothing on that field (like in the official release too)

1/ Open a file with chapters. :D
2/ You will see a chapters button appear on the bottom right.
3/ Click on this button to save your file.

Which you easily can rename. Just press renam, do it and press Enter after you have tipped in the new name. Enter is important! :)

Edit:
It also not works for me. Yamb does not remember the saved profiles and track 2 and all tracks that follows have the name track 2, track 3 .....

It would be really nice if Yamb could support directly Matroska input. Because I am sure that there are lots of peoples who have piles of old matroska (and Vorbis) files that are needed to convert to mp4-format. Also for subtitles it would be nice if there were support for ssa and VobSubs.

Of course all the video editing problems would be immediately dissolved if there comes a new version of VirtualDubMod that extents support for Mp4/aac/H.264/VobSub/etc. But I think that we can only dream about that. :(

It is quite frustrating if your source is in Matroska file and it uses XviD/VFR (or something like that) so it cannot be demuxed with mkvextract, because synchronization with audio dispels. And if you try to open that matroska file with VirtualDubMod, of course there is also Vobsub stream that VirtualDubMod cannot handle.

It is sad that currently the best and only reasonable video editing software that is available in the World is VirtualDubMod that's latest version was published almost 2 and half years ago or so.

yamb is a gui for mp4box and when mp4box doesnt support mkv input, yamb will also not support it

it might be maybe better to ask mosu to add mp4 writing support to mkvextract, as it already supports lots of other containers too (mp4box only supports avi and i doubt the devs are interested in adding new containers)

mmmh...

1/ Yamb is just a GUI for mp4box you know. In addition, this tool doesn't support matroska files. So, I can't add this format into Yamb.
2/ ssa can be replaced by ttxt if you are interested by colors/positions etc...
3/ vobsub & ssa are not supported by mp4box also.
4/ Bear in mind that mp4box is a tool for MPEG-4 standard. So, forget about ssa, vobsub files right now.
5/ mkv vfr video streams can be extracted with a tool from Haali. Check his website.
6/ The last vdm build comes from 1-2 months.
7/ Yamb 2.0 will have some new things regarding mp4 edition.
8/ :search:
9/ Bond is too fast... :D

4/ Bear in mind that mp4box is a tool for MPEG-4 standard. So, forget about ssa, vobsub files right now.

Some Nero Digital certified Dvd-players do support ssa/vobsub within Mp4 files, although it does not include in standard. So there is demand for older subtitle formats also like vobsub, because if I want to take backup files from my little sisters cartoon Dvds I have vobsubs, not Mp4s/ttxt format. And the conversion from vobsub is just too much work demanding and also quality easily gets downwards.

But as we see that the problematic factor is not Yamb, but Mp4Box...

So maybe Mkvextract -developer will extend this function. Also it would be very nice if their tools could support both, matroska and Mp4, in the future, because those tools are much more comfortable to use for noob than Mp4Box is. At least I just do not understand how to use it, no mater how much I read guides or use Guis like Yamb. Mp4Box is just too difficult to use. I have now about a month tried to create my first Mp4-file without success.

But this answer made some clarifications about that Mp4Box won't do the job, so I need stay and wait that some one else would be so nice and will write better software.

It seems that that "new" Vdm does not include nothing relevant new to old one - except that it now tells you in the beginning, that this program does not support vobsub etc.

But anyway, Thank you for kind answers and I will continue looking miracles (like one click Mkv to Mp4 converter!) from different coordinates of space-time.

Ok, So I think that Kiss players support only external ssa subs, so it is just my misunderstanding that you could add ssa (or any other) subtitles to Mp4.

One is that If you drag and drop from explorer window a Mkv -file to Yamb, Yamb would automatically analyze the file and first it would extract preferred tracks with proper external software (like Haali (Vfr) or Mkvextract) and then saves these as Mp4 format. Also with subtitles, ssa/srt --> ttxt/Mpeg4 conversion should be automatic. I do not think that it would be impossible to program and it for sure would make things go easier.

In addition if you select a hundred Mkv-files (or ogm) and drag them into Yamb, Yamb would automatically put these in queue as separete jobs. Or if selected otherwise in options, would behave like Mmg.

If Kurtnoise can do these, he will get at least from me a great Thank You.

Although they otherwise state that standard avi does not support VFR that is just not true. Vfr works fine with Avi and VDM. So I do not think that Vfr is problem with Mp4 either. Anyway, here is a sample clip of Vfr XviD video if you still want that:

@Shiroi: I've made some tests with your sample. The main problem seems to be the extraction of the avc streams from mkv. For the moment, I suggest you to keep your files if you don't want to reencode them.

@JoeB: it seems to be fix now.

avi does not support vfr, as using n-vops is not the same as using vfr

That is a lie, because according VirtualDubMod those source mkv's (from A4E) are encoded with VFR. VirtualDubMod can save these Mkv's to Avi format without loss of synchronization with audio. But if you try to mux again these vfr avis with e.g. divxmux to make .divx file these are about two to three minutes shorter than original mkv and avi sources. As it is if you try to extract VFR video directly with Mkvextract from Matroska file. But VirtualDubMod can save VFR -video to Avi from Mkv although Vdm complains and begs to use another application.

Just try with your-self and you will surprise the real potential of good old Avi.^^

If the Vdm is a liar and those are not VFR videos, but something else, then of course my concern here is about that mysterious other thing (e.g. nVop etc.), not Vfr.

I don't know what is going on, but avi doesn't not support VFR, when you save the mkv as avi it gets changed to CFR.

yep...Finally with the help from SMD (many thanks dude ;)) the website is launched. Here is the changelog :

- Tracks delay for concatenation.
- a Warning for tagging.
- Size max equals to filesize for splitting.

Bugfixes:
- TrackName import settings.

First impressions... I like it. The tagging certainly seems to work well in all the software media players I currently like using :D

The only criticism I can think of is, there does not appear to be a way of checking/amending files that have already been tagged. Which is way I would like to see a dedicated stand-alone MP4 Tagger ;)

Really great work Kurt. There's no excuse for people not to use the MP4 container now....

MPC == Media Player Classic. You can check mp4 metadatas with it. Not editing for sure.

Concerning iTunes...well it's a good tool for iPod or Podcasts. :D Personnally, I like Apple design.

I had checked mp4tags code and there were only routines for jpg and png. I didn't include png support coz I'm lazy... :o but I can add it for sure.

Some people (not here...) with old OS are reported some issues with special characters in the Chapters filename. utf8 conversion for chapters are made internally by mp4box iirc during the mux process.

Splitting seems to be broken.

Try to load a 1.4 gb file and split it in 700mb pieces. Doesn't work. Can't go under 1000 mb in the split settings.

Worked great with 1.3.2. Is broken in since 1.3.3. Please fix it. ;)
