The only way to have subs in your AVCHD is when they're present on your original Blu-ray, or, when converting a MKV, when they're already muxed in with your MKV. Supplying a SRT, for example, is not possible.

I just tried using your program. Simple GUI I/F and very easy to use! And, I also like having the option to keep the HD audio track.

I'm trying to backup Evangelion 2.22 to a BD25 keeping the DTS-HD MA track at the "very slow" x264 setting. However, the final result came out to be 15.7 GB, and I was expecting something closer to 23.2 GB.

Is this normal?

I noticed that when I select the forced subtitles, when it makes into these copies BD are activated for the duration of the film, so do not full but those are automatic. :confused:

Then I have problem, perhaps unique, I can not find the subtitles convicts in Van Helsing, if I leave everything default, turn on the wrong ones, referring to the director's commentary or other
if I try to select another subtitle file, you enable only those standing for the duration of the film. :(

I tried for two days helping with other tools, I'd give anything to be done, wonder if anyone has had this problem or if a solution exists.

Usually forced subs come in a separate track. However, in some BD (few) can come mixed in the same track as all dialog subtitles.

Perhaps this is what happens in this case. If so there is no way to separate them. One solution would be to get the forced subs separately and add them later with tsMuxer.


I have a question regarding the subtitles. Is there any way to customize the font style and size and so forth for them? On my backup I ended up with very small subtitles pushed to the bottom of the screen.

There is no option to change the format of the subs but usually not necessary. The position, size, color and font are taken from the original PGS track. If the Blu-Ray the letters are large and yellow in the conversion will look the same for example. Have you checked as are the original subtitles?

Incrusted subtitles in video are not possible but forced subtitles (default on) or unforced (default off) YES.

It is more versatile to have the subtitles on a track to have them incrusted in the video... I think.

Perhaps with only an audio track needs only this size but do not know.

Yes, the subtitles on the source are in normal size, whereas the backed-up ones are tiny. I also tried multiple discs to see if it was just on the first one, but it was the same on all I tested.

So here is correct. The bitrate calculated by the program matches :)

But the real file has a different size and hence a different bitrate. In fact according to MediaInfo: total bitrate < video bitrate. This is impossible! :confused:

Overall bit rate : 20.1 Mbps


I can only think of two things: The video or file is corrupted (or missing a piece) or x264 codec has ignored the bitrrate indicated in the command line.

On the other hand the x264 command line is correct:

I watched the movie and it's very pixelated. It appears that this encode is no good :(.

A reboot did fix it, but still it's strange... any idea what went wrong? BDtoAVCHD didn't work properly today - the screen was messed up. See the image below. The repair function did not fix it, neither did uninstalling and installing it again. A reboot was the cure. As long as it works, I'm glad, but I'd still like to know what could have caused something like this.

I am very interested to backup BD main movies to BD25 and have tested a few softwares accordingly (Ripbot 264, AVCHDcoder, BDRebuilder, MultiAVCHD and BDtoAVCHD) and BDtoAVCHD is the best I have found for my own needs.

Why?

Very easy GUI
Very good management of VBR Audio files (with Scan Bitrate ! Very good idea to implement that option for calculating precisely the output video bitrates)
Manual tuning allowed for output video bitrates
HD Audio can be left untouched
Tweaking of X264 with standard presets
No need to wait for ending the "demuxing" process before defining the output parameters
No need for codec as avisynth, ffdshow and haali media splitter
1st process seems not to be "demuxing" but only "indexation" (at least 2x faster)
--weightp 2 as an option
x264 allowed in x64 mode

All these together in only one GUI

It's a VERY GOOD job:)

A question : what happens if normal subtitles and forced subtitles are in different tracks and I select the normal subtitle track for output, is the forced track also selected by default?
If not , it could be interesting to have it included by default

I suggest the following future improvements (and I will really appreciate them) :

-Selection of multiple subtitle tracks (at least for normal subtitles and forced subtitles tracks)
-X264 options for animations (--tune animation)
-Some tweaks for x264 (compatible with bluray specs) allowing to tune the standard presets (like --deblock (between -2 and +2) --me (hex and umh) --subme (between 6 and 9) -merange (16 and 24) --trellis (1 and 2) --psy-rd --partitions all --direct auto)

-selection of multiple audio tracks (even if I don't really need it but others can be very interested)

and...possibility for donation...it's worth;)

A small "bug" (not annoying) : my selected preferred audio and subtitle tracks are french and english comes first in the BDtoAVCHD window at opening "2012" folder (french comes first for other Blurays)

Thank you for these very interesting additional settings.
Perhaps another possible improvement for the future.
Some films have an alternative end.
In some cases, there are two m2ts files with very close durations.
For example, for "I Am A Legend", 00051.m2ts lasting 1:43:54 and 00000.m2ts lasting 1:40:32. 00051.mts is the alternative end. BDtoAVCHD displays only the longest duration (00051.m2ts). As in HD-DVD/Blu-ray Stream Extractor (GUI for eac3to), it might be useful to leave the choice between both m2ts files. In my case, I prefer the normal end and so I have to select 00000.m2ts separately.

I'll look if I can implement when I see a BD with this peculiarity. Normally when there are multiple versions of the film uses the system "seamless branching". In this case it lets you choose which version to convert.

I suppose in the case referred (I Am a Legend) is the entire movie twice in two different m2ts. But it is not very common.

I converted the Prince of Persia Blu-ray to AVCHD using BDtoAVCDHD 1.1.5, I experienced no problems. Perhaps because I was working off an ISO I made using AnyDVD HD?

Hmmm, I have the retail region B Blu-ray. If I don't forget, tomorrow I'll check if it's some kind of special edition, although this was the only version on sale in the store. I assume it's the version other stores here in the Netherlands also have.

Thank you for a superb product! I use slow as my setting & it is an 8 hour process on a Quad Core Q6600 with 16GB RAM so quite a good time.....Can I ask if it will ever be possible to copy multiple audio streams at all?

I keep getting Error Unable to read BD structure using Open BD Folder either from original disc or HD. I use AnydvdHD to rip to folder in a straight forward way. I have no problem using TMT to playback or BDRB to access those folders. I wonder what have gone wrong.

I have tested the 1.2.0 version making only backup to BD-R 25GB and it works fine. Never get a real problem.
Bitrates calculation for video is really perfect even with DTS-HD MA audio. 20 MB free on the BD-R before burning !!!!
That means that 99.9% of the BD-R is used.

I made some suggestions for improvements in the past and hope Pistacho will take some of them in consideration.
Maybe another one : an option for automatic shutdown of the computer at the end of the mux process. Just because I used to sleep at 2.00 AM.

pkho : be aware that such event could happen if you have a cracked version of AnyDVD HD. Try another encrypted Bluray. Try also a homemade bluray (family movie : not encrypted). You will directly see if the problem comes from AnyDVD HD.

Here are my settings for backup to BD25 with recompression :

for movies : speed vs quality (preset) : slower, tune : film and --merange 24 as additional parameter. Video bitrate is generally calculated between 14000 and 20000

for animations : speed vs quality : slower, tune : animation, --merange 24 --bframes 3 --ref 4 and --trellis 0 as additional parameters.

Tune animation introduces higher bframes number and higher ref number (with preset slower) and I suspect it is not compatible with Bluray Spec (not tested). I correct it with --brames 3 and --ref 4.

In both cases, the result is perfect. Impossible to see any difference with the original BD even using the pause function and freezing frames

New: It takes into account events WM_QUERYENDSESSION and WM_ENDSESSION so Windows can tell the program that should stop the conversion to restart/shutdown the computer. You can continue the conversion without repeating the steps already completed.
Fixed: flickering in some interlaced video sources. Now command --demuxer "lavf" is used in these sources.

Hmm, think i may have found a bug.

I was encoding a movie, but decided to stop it.

I reconfigured the encode and tried to delete the original one. I cannot remove it.

Re-started program, highlighted stopped encode and still do not have a option to delete it.

There is still something annoying for me (probably also for others)

Managing forced subtitles with Bluray ripping softwares is generally realized following 2 different methods:

1) Either the forced subtitles are in the main subtitle file which includes some forced captions (we can check it in the log file created by the HD DVD Bluray Stream Extractor software or by opening the .sup file with BDSuptoSub and identifying some forced captions in it).

BDtoAVCHD can easily manage that by selecting (option: "selected" in target subtitle) the main subtitle track

2) Or the forced subtitles file is a separate .sup file (with small size and very low bitrate) but no forced captions

BDtoAVCHD can also easily manage that by selecting and forcing (option : "selected forced") this small .sup file. We can check it with BDedit controlling the corresponding command in the movieobject.bdmv file (something like 51C00001 0000C001)

BUT when using the second method it is impossible to add a second sub track, for example to add the normal subtitles (I mean the forced and non forced subtitles together) because BDtoAVCHD is not able to manage more than one .sup file.

The solution is to use TsMuxer for adding the second sub track but TsMuxer CANCELS any forced sub track in the movieobject.bdmv file. It is thus necessary to use an additional small and easy tool I found on the Web (called “correctBD.exe”) to force once again the small sized sub track including the forced subtitles.

All this is quite annoying.

Conclusion : it would be very interesting that BDtoAVCHD is able to include more than one subtitle tracks in the output .m2ts file and is able to force only one of them by modifying the movieobject.bdmv file.

Maybe you have already been working on that :)

I have got the same problem with french. It is a very small bug...solved with 2 clicks...
Other softs use "fre" and "fra" as iso codes for french and don't seem to have the problems. Maybe it is the cause but I don't know.

I don't need any menus, intros,... and BDtoAVCHD is the best for movie only backup ;) .... but please don't forget the multiple subtitle tracks....

The tuning is just a specific option in the X264 commandline that tweak specific video options such as PSY and AQ optimizations. You can view the documentations for all of these options under x264's help dialog under the "--tune" option.

I am planning to take the necessary for me video & audio tracks ( english (or main) DTSHD-MA + my native languages audio tracks) + subs (english (or main) + my languages sub track) and to cut the all of other unnecessary for me parts of this BD50 sources.

Can we have a chance to add on the main screen the second audio & subs language row? (like main audio & subs language row)

I know that I can do it with TsMuxer + eac3to, but your software seems to be more simple for all of that?

Subtitles come out too small with BDtoAVCHD. At least, they did with two MKVs I converted to AVCHD. The subtitles were embedded in the original MKVs. As there are no options in BDtoAVCHD to control subtitles, I wonder how I can fix this problem...

-- Edit: that's with BDtoAVCHD v1.2.1, so it's the latest version. Some info about the MKV I tried encoding and which came out with too small subtitles (most people would need a spyglass to be able to read them :)). Extracted with MediaInfo.

Sorry but I can not help with this because I have never used WINE. Might not work because it keeps the settings in the Windows registry and also used many functions of the WIN32 API. Usually get better functionality and performance that using standard C functions.

Thanks for the info. I'll use AVCHDCoder for now, but I must say: whereas BDtoAVCHD is install-and-go, AVCHDCoder actually required me to read the installation guidelines in order for it to work :)
(meaning there were several steps I had to take to get the program to run as expected)

This is the only thing to be absolutly perfect.
Is only to change the GUI a little bit allowing to have 2 combos of audios.
Same with subtitles.
Maybe is complex to do that, but I don't understand what is the reason.
