I'm going to try again tonight with v2.5.1, but I'm having problems converting a 3D Blu-ray to MKV (I want to put it on my NAS). BDtoAVCHD seems to be stuck at the first pass. It starts the first pass and beyond that, nothing seems to happen -- although I can see in the taskmanager that x264.exe is taking up some CPU time (around 12-13%, which on my quadcore hyperthreaded CPU means it's running in one thread), nothing actually seem to happen. The first pass just doesn't seem to progress.

Video is set to 3D SBS, audio is set to DTS Core (from the original DTS Master Audio audiotrack), untoched (Dutch) subtitles, target media size 12000 megabyte.

Any idea why the first pass doesn't seem to do anything?

-- Edit: with "seems to be stuck", I mean usually you see the progress in a percentage, current frame, etc; however, that just won't appear at all.

Same problem with the new version, unfortunately enough...

@Wildfire:
Are you have ticked option x264 OpenCL acceleration? If yes, disable it!

@KaraokeAmerica:
The logs (eac3to log, x264/x265 log and error log) are on TEMP folder. The TEMP folder is located where it says in settings (menu Options > Settings).

And for your "failed" issue is probably has something to do with Intel Graphics drivers.
Check Intel Media SDK System Analyzer (located on BDtoAVCHD Help menu)

And post here this information.

Also update Intel Graphics drivers to latest (if you use them).

Yes, but usually it works just fine.

I've already worked around the problem. First I had BDtoAVCHD create a 2D+3D version via remux, then used that as a source. That seemed to work fine for some reason.

That was on another system, with other hardware. :)

But I'll keep it in mind -- if I come across a Blu-ray on which BDtoAVCHD fails, I'll remember to disable OpenCL acceleration to check if that's the cause.

Thank you for the info!

I have found the temp files. The last disk that failed has this in its temp log:

It appears to be fine.

I do NOT have x264 OpenCL acceleration checked either.

Please keep in mind that I changed nothing since the v2.4.7 that I was using. I simply installed v2.5.0 then v2.5.1. It hasn't worked successfully since v2.4.7. I don't know what changed.

As an aside I would like to know if there is a more comprehensive user manual for this program. It has some interesting features, but I don't know what some of them even mean! How do you use "MKV Remux" mode and what is the difference between that and CRF mode? I get a message that I can't use remux mode and must choose differently. I would like to understand what all these options mean.

Thanks for the cool program!

OK, this did work! Did the new version of BDtoAVCHD have some new check for a version or something? Is that why it stopped working?

Thank you!

Is there a more comprehensive manual on operations?

Hmmm, suddenly mvenc.exe is being picked up with a generic trojan detection by BitDefender ("Gen:Variant.Kazy.775851"). A few other scanners are picking up something too, see https://www.virustotal.com/en/file/7770070ebaa2bdb6a37a99733a8e14e17610403c2de69200ba8c956be411e806/analysis/1448752235/

I'm assuming it's a false positive, but just to be sure I thought I'd mention it here anyway.

It's a false positive, of course. I reported it to Bitdefender, CAT-QuickHeal and Ad-Aware... others antivirus names using Bitdefender engine.

@KaraokeAmerica:
It's not a new check. From version 2.4.3 (five months ago) is needed because MVCsource is compiled using latest Avisynth API.

Version 2.4.3 (06/13/2015)
- Updated: MVCsource with Avisynth headers v6, due this, older Avisynth versions (2.5.8) are no longer compatible ***is now required Avisynth v2.6.0***.
- Updated: x265 encoder to version 1.7.166.
- Small fixes and general improvements.
There is no operation manual, sorry.

Strange then because I had been using it perfectly fine as recently as a couple weeks ago with no issues and without updating AVISynth. v2.5.0 is when it stopped working with no other changes.

I am having a new issue. I am trying to rip a 3D movie, "Monsters University" to a TAB-MKV. It seems to go as expected until it gets to step 2/3. Then it just hangs at this message:

"[Step 2/3 - X264 CRF] Recode video using x264, single pass CRF..."

I have let it run for hours and even overnight now. I even rebooted the machine. It just sits there at that step whether I use the original BR disk or the ISO I made from it. It never gives me an error and never produces an error log that I am aware of. The option is greyed out.

It just sits at that stage and does nothing.

Any ideas what could cause this? Could it be related to the latest Windows updates from this past Tuesday?

Thank you!

Does it work OK with other titles?

I will try another title to be sure, but it was working fine last time I tried it before this one. The only change was the recent, December "patch Tuesday". That could be coincidence though. I will test and update here.

If x264 OpenCL acceleration is enabled, try disabling it. With 2-pass encoding, my system would sometimes be stuck on the first pass, it would start and then do nothing. Turned out to be the x264 OpenCL acceleration. Perhaps the same thing is happening here.

It is not enabled however. I use entirely the default settings at this point. I even reset them as per Pistachio's suggestion.

Hi
Been using this for a while to convert 3d mvc to recoded m2ts for playing on sammy tv. Been working great and I've done plenty of titles. Have discovered three though that I just can't get to work. They appear to recode fine and finish in BdtoAVCHD. However, when i play them back they will reach a certain point (different in each case), pixelate badly and then crash the tv. It's not possible to fast forward beyond the pixellation point.
Normally I adjust bitrate to be close to original but I've tried it using the BD25 calculated bitrate and default settings and it makes no difference (in fact the crash point tends to come earlier).
One thing I have noticed is that in these files the AVC stream is only a bit higher than the MVC file (e.g. 12gb AVC, 10gb MVC) - normally the difference is more exaggerated on those that have worked fine.
My question is, is there any way of not using quick sync and still do a 3D MVC conversion? Or perhaps use software rather than hardware? I know I could try SBS but all other films are in MVC format.
Thank you....great programme btw, it's invaluable :-)

Samsung TVs (recent ones anyway) can play back 3D MVC fine through the Plex app. They just need converting to m2ts files through tsmuxer. Occasionally you get one that crashes, which is where BDtoAVHCD comes in. Adjust the bitrate and recode and it's usually fine. Just sorted my problem with another attempt at one of my problem titles with a bitrate just a tad shy of the original.

Is there a more comprehensive tutorial that you know of than the one at the BDtoAVCHD web page? Not aware of any tutorial. I just picked up enough info from a few bods on the plex forums and this one to learn how to do it, but it is a lot of trial and error! If you want to PM me I can answer in more detail.
Your question about plex though I can answer now, it will only play in 3D frame-packed MVC when it direct plays (so the audio has to be DTS or AC3) - i.e. Plex just hands over the file to the TV. If you select transcoding, it changes to 2D straight away. You will find that if you put an m2ts file on a memory stick and put it in a recent Samsung TV that it will play that file in 3d fine as well.

Maybe it's a problem with the Intel Graphics drivers. Rename Intel Media SDK path to force use internal libmfxsw32.dll included with BDtoAVCHD (SW mode):

And try again.

Installing the new driver did work until 80%, then it stopped servering frames and stall the encoding. After a reboot it still didnt want to just play my avs file. So know I'm trying SW Mode, by renaming the Media SDK folder and move the libmfxsw32 to C:\Windows\System32 folder. Lets hope it works.

On my system, it dosnt seem like there is any improvement in using HW instead of SW when it comes to speed. But lets hope it works.

You got something strange in your system. If BDtoAVCHD is installed on a clean system BDtoAVCHD works as it is (logically is not needed to manually copy files in system32 and the installer doesn't do).

EDIT: Probably you have others "libmfxsw32.dll" versions from others programs (maybe FRIM or BDrebuilder) with modifications on system default paths or something.

EDIT2: BDtoAVCHD installer does not change anything in system paths. BDtoAVCHD ony uses "libmfxsw32.dll" from it's local folder in normal (clean) conditions.

GZZ
3rd January 2016, 23:46

I am trying to rip "The Martian" from an ISO that I ripped using AnyDVD-HD. I am getting this behavior again:

I have only ever tried subtitles with a single movie: "The Walk" because the main characters are French and although most of the film is English there are times that they are speaking French with sub-titles.

I opted for ONLY forced sub-titles and although I haven't watched the entire movie yet, I know they showed up at least some of the time. As far as I know the entire thing is correct, but I haven't finished yet.

I think I've found a bug in 2.5.4. I've been converting several of my 3D Blu-rays, and normally my preference is to leave both the audio and subtitles as untouched so that I can do more post-processing with them later. Lately, however, I've noticed that subtitles have been getting burned into the resulting .m2ts file. When I play it back through VLC, the subtitles are showing up even though VLC doesn't recognize that there's an active subtitle track. The only way to get around it is by re-encoding the disc again without any subtitles at all. (I haven't tried "forced only" because very few of my discs have forced subtitles.)

This has only been a recent problem. I guess I could reinstall a previous version to see if it's this particular version, but I wanted to mention this to you.

By the same token, I would really like it if BDtoAVCHD would not remove everything once a job is added to the queue. I normally only do one disc at a time; so for instances like the subtitle issue or if I want to also render the same disc in a 2D format, I need to go through and do everything from scratch, including going through the "Scan Bitrates" function. This seems like a waste of time if no other discs are involved.

I still love the program (and to show support I don't block your ads), but I wanted to mention these.

pistacho
29th March 2016, 11:16
Caerbannog:

This is not a bug: the only subtitles format for 3D SBS/TAB output is burned subtitles (as is part of video cannot be disabled in player time).

Thera are four options:

"None": no subtitles are included in output (is the default when no exist forced subtitles in selected language).
"Untouched": entire track of selected language is included in output.
"Flagged Forced": entire track of selected language is included in output and subtitles are flagged as forced (is the default when the souce track contains only forced subtitles and is properly detected by program).
"Extract only Forced": only forced subtitles of selected language (if any) is included in output (is the default when source track contains mixed complete subtitles and forced subtitles and is properly detected by program).

In summary: if "Scan bitrates" is executed and default options are used the program detects if exist forced subtitles in souce and includes it in output only if matches with selected language.

EDIT:
If you want PGS subtitles (switchable at player time) is required 3D MVC output format but only is compatible with "real" 3D Blu-Ray players.

Are there are any software players that can play these?

Yes exits some SW players (e.g. PowerDVD 15) that can reproduce 3D Bluray isos with PGS subtitles, etc. although some requirements still needed: Graphics card with HDMI 1.4 or better and Windows 8.1 or 10 (Windows 7 or lower cannot output 3D video trough HDMI) and of course 3D TV or monitor.

Other alternative are network media players as Mede8er (http://www.mede8er.com/mede8er_product_med600x3d.htm) can stream 3D isos from network shared folder.

Or recently LAV filers (https://github.com/Nevcairiel/LAVFilters/releases) is beginning to support MVC decoding but requires compatible player that also support 3D Blu-Ray (probably MPC-HC developer/nightly builds but I don't known current state).
