Hi all.
Total newbie. Have got this running on an NUC i3 intel graphics HD4000. I'm used to macs so out of my depth.
My main reason for trying to use this is to be able to play my full 3D blu rays via plex on to samsung tv. Some have worked fine, but others are causing issues (as has been noted on this thread - like Jurassic Park!). I've tried to load numerous BDMV folders and other sources and just can't get it to recognise a 3D source (the MVC doesn't show on the video options). Therefore I don't get the 3D button to make the selection. Screen shot attached from the system analyser in the folder. Is it just that my set up is not powerful enough, or is it the lack of filters highlighted here? Not sure what to do to rectify this.

If BDtoAVCHD can't recognize 3D source is because is not intact Blu-Ray structure or it has been preprocessed improperly, etc.

Use "Open BD folder" option and source only can be:


An ISO file (already decrypted). In this case you need to mount ISO file first and open corresponding drive letter.
Physical Blu-Ray disc. In this case you need a decrypter like AnyDVD HD to decrypt the disc.

Preprocessed/remuxed formats (output's from MakeMKV, MKV containers, TsMuxer, etc.) are not valid. Only intact Blu-Ray original structure.

And for ISO files, please don't extract the contents to HDD, only mount ISO file.

In addition NUC i3 (HD 4000) is powerful enough to perform the conversion but do not expect the same performance as a desktop PC with i7. In a modern PC takes only 25-30 minutes to perform a conversion (at 80-90 fps). On NUC i3 probably only reach 10 fps or less.

Thanks for getting back to me. I haven't tried either of those options yet so will give it a go. I thought (obviously wrongly) that a direct copy of the blu ray folder would have been ok!
Can i ask what the lack of direct show filters is about on the system analysis? Is this a problem at all?

I do not know exactly which "direct show filters" you mean. Only is needed Intel HD Graphics driver and BDtoAVCHD installer. No external codecs are needed and is NOT necessary install Intel Media SDK. The required files comes with the Intel driver (HW) and BDtoAVCHD (SW).

Any idea why MVC 3D movies shrank with BDtoAVCHD (version 2.4.2) using quicksynk on i7 4770K system and burned to BD25 disk have glitches when played on a disk BD player? Sometimes every few seconds, sometimes every few minutes. I had the same issue using quicksynk and BD-RB. Also, the subtitles 3D effect is greatly minimised, it is there but just about. Is there a setting I am missing or could it be just my particular system set up?

With the latest Intel graphics driver and BDtoAVCHD v2.4.3 I am getting 4-5 fps. Something is not right. With the previous version 2.4.2 I was getting around 45 fps.

Nothing has changed regarding MVC encoding between versions 2.4.2 to 2.4.3.

Perhaps you have a problem with unsupported or improperly installed drivers. Runs "Intel Media SDK System Analyzer" tool on BDtoAVCHD Help menu and paste screenshot or output text.

This occurs because your system has two graphics adapters (Intel and Nvidia GTX750) and Intel is no configured as primary display or not has a physical monitor connected. This is a limitation of Windows 7 (this issue not occurs with Windows 8/8.1).

Some solutions:


Connect a monitor to Intel graphics and use as primary display.

Now BDtoAVCHD stops at the last step "Recode MVC 3D video..." and nothing happens beyond this step. I waited for an hour and it did not move. Is it my settings again?

Sure!! (since this only happens to you :rolleyes:)

Tips:


First of all resets all options to default values: Menu > Options > Settings "Defaults" button
And use the default "medium" preset instead of "placebo".



(I've always wondered why people who are first time to use a program must touch all options instead of using the normal/defaults values...)

Thank you for the prompt response however, reset to Defaults did not solve the issue. I've used the previous version with success even with different settings than the default ones. I suspect it may be the latest Intel Graphics driver - will try an older version. Any other ideas?

Then when I saw you used the "placebo" preset I was reminded of another user who had a similar problem:

Ran a quality=3 backup of Gravity, and it looked fine. Ran another backup, this time with "placebo" (quality=1) and it came out garbled. Base view is fine, but dependent view is messed up. Did another run with quality set for 2, and that came out garbled as well.

It may be for the same cause or not (do not know) but I still think it would be very interesting to do one conversion with medium preset to check whether "glitches" have a relation with preset or always occurs.


In another message you also were complaining of the speed of only ~45 fps:

Mine is core i7 4770 and again, in Quicksync mode frames per second started off with 55 and then dropped to 42-43. Still much faster than software mode.

It's certainly very slow when normal is +80 fps (for i7-4770K). This makes me think you had (and have) a problem with the drivers. Also is not normal that the last Intel driver do not work (freezes) on your PC.

It would be interesting to tell us more details of "previous driver". Is Intel driver just before the last? Or is it that you had installed earlier (probably the original that came with the computer/motherboard manufacturer)?

If it is very old it could be the cause of all (gliches and only 45 fps).

In any case you should solve the problem for which it does not work the last Intel driver or find another driver that works well (and with the right speed).

All this (I think it's clear) is nothing to do with BDtoAVCHD, so I can do nothing more than give advice.

I went back to the previous Intel driver 4170 which is only a month older than the latest version 4222 (from Intel download centre).
I am well aware that the issue is not with BDtoAVCHD and was simply looking for suggestions what to change on my system/setup.
Obviously the software works well for majority of the users so I have to figure out where the bottleneck is on my system (at the moment is seems the graphics driver but who knows).

Using quicksync with BD-RB (FRIM encoder) I was getting above 200fps (although the resulting output was not entirely watchable) and this confuses me further why i cannot achieve higher than 45-50fps with your software.
I'll keep trying various settings and see what works best for me.

Great piece of software. As usual, free altenatives are so much better than paid ones. I see that it is ads supported but wouldn't mind donating either if there was a donate button somewhere.

In the Blu-ray 3D discs one of the views is also used for the 2D version and is encoded in AVC, the other (dependent view) in MVC.

The point is that this is not the same on all discs: Most AVC stream corresponding to the left view and the MVC right but in others it is the reverse. The order in which the views are encoded is defined by a flag in the .mpls file at BD.

"Prometheus" is one of the BD are in reverse order (AVC = right, MVC = left).

When making a Blu-Ray 3D conversion to H-SBS / H-TAB no problem because BDtoAVCHD identifies the flag and always performs the conversion to the correct order (for SBS right stream in the right part of image).

But for conversions Blu-Ray 3D to BD-25 MVC the same configuration as the original is preserved. That is, it is the responsibility of the player to identify the flag and play the views in the correct order (as when playing an original Blu-Ray 3D disc).

Unfortunately there are many software players and also HW players (media streamers, etc.) that do not meet all Blu-ray 3D specification and do not use MPLS flag to detect streams assignation.

Ultimately if the views are reproduced in reverse is player problem.

It happens when i convert from bluray (can be from disc with anydvd, .iso or folder with .miniso - they all give the same result) to mkv 3D SBS. So far this has happened to me with Edge of tomorrow 3D and Prometheus 3D (bluray zone b) other bluray movies i copied worked fine

The settings for BDtoAVCHD i have as they are, only thing i have changed is to mkv crf preset medium

I re-did Prometheus and tested it on the tv, the switch happens just after 45 minutes in the movie. If you want me give you debug logs i can, you just need to explain to me what i need to do.

The first attempt was no success. In my system Prometheus 3D ISO to MKV H-SBS conversion works just fine... I tested first seconds of every chapter and no inversion effect.

Now I'm trying with SW decoder (without Intel Quick Sync)...

I do all my encodings without intel quick sync. Like i said this happens just after 45 minutes in Prometheus. Is there a way for me to cut the mkv and upload a sample with re-encoding it?

Finally I was able to reproduce the problem. I have also found the cause (it's a bug in the Intel SDK) but is easy to workaround.

In my system new MVCsource works fine although is possible some bug or missing dependency because I upgraded compiler from Visual Studio 2013 to Visual Studio 2015 (besides the fix).

Later I'll try it on a clean system to check possible link issues...

After a few attempts i kept getting the same error with Prometheus and other blurays, after a reinstall and looking around in the settings i noticed that OpenCL was ticked so i unticked and everything works again :) Prometheus 3D converted correctly and plays back correctly :) I haven't tested Edge of tomorrow yet, but if Prometheus works i am sure Edge of tomorrow will work too. I can say bug has been fixed :)

When I run it, I get around 80-90% CPU usage from that process, if I change it to normal I get 90-100%. It seems like my computer isnt maxed out with setting on low.

I got a Core I7-4770K @ 4200 mhz. I havent tested 2 encodings to see if the one on normal will finish before the one on low priority.

Dont know if this is an error or not. But if you have a video or properly a bluray without any audio track, it will fail on Eac3to extraction because it tries to extract an audio track without any extension.

I bought the North American version of Pixar's "Inside Out" 3D Blu-ray and I ran into an issue when attempting to convert it to side-by-side 3D for use on my Plex server. I ripped the disc to an unprotected ISO and mounted the ISO as a drive letter. When BDtoAVCHD v2.5.0 scanned the playlists, the only ones that it returned were (in order) 00802.mpls, 00801.mpls, and 00805.mpls. However, the English playlist is 00800.mpls. It does not come up in the selection list nor does BDtoAVCHD allow me to manually select it.

I was finally able to create the 3D version by copying the image to my hard drive and copying 00800.mpls over 00801.mpls; but then the playlists that came up were (in order) 00802.mpls and 00801.mpls. For some reason 00805.mpls disappeared. (I wouldn't have used it anyway, but it's interesting that was no longer in the list when I didn't do anything to it.)

Here's where things get weird.

After I deleted the local copy (not the ISO), I realized that I didn't do the final encode properly. I mounted the ISO again and copied the contents over to my local drive; but this time without making any playlist modifications, BDtoAVHCD listed (in order) 00801.mpls, 00802.mpls, and 00800.mpls. So 00801 and 00802 were reversed; but there was 00800.mpls and it showed the correct files to be played! Just to make sure I wasn't going crazy, I had BDtoAVHCD look at the mounted ISO and the list was back to the original format with (in order) 00802, 00801, and 00805 but no 00800! So, for whatever reason, the mounted ISO and the local copy of it are coming up with different playlist selections!

I'm guessing that this problem has something with the way the discs were mastered because when converting the 2D Blu-ray through Handbrake, it also defaulted to 00801.mpls as though 00800.mpls was not a legitimate playlist. At least Handbrake allows me to manually select the correct playlist before encoding.

I don't know if this is a bug or some trickery of how the disc was mastered, but I wanted to make you aware of this. If anything, you might want to consider letting users manually choose whichever playlist we want after suggesting what it thinks are legitimate playlists.

Dont know if this is an error or not. But if you have a video or properly a bluray without any audio track, it will fail on Eac3to extraction because it tries to extract an audio track without any extension.

I do not consider it a error because no Blu-Ray's without any audio track...

Yet I will correct for MKV's in the next version.

I'm going to try again tonight with v2.5.1, but I'm having problems converting a 3D Blu-ray to MKV (I want to put it on my NAS). BDtoAVCHD seems to be stuck at the first pass. It starts the first pass and beyond that, nothing seems to happen -- although I can see in the taskmanager that x264.exe is taking up some CPU time (around 12-13%, which on my quadcore hyperthreaded CPU means it's running in one thread), nothing actually seem to happen. The first pass just doesn't seem to progress.

Video is set to 3D SBS, audio is set to DTS Core (from the original DTS Master Audio audiotrack), untoched (Dutch) subtitles, target media size 12000 megabyte.

Any idea why the first pass doesn't seem to do anything?

-- Edit: with "seems to be stuck", I mean usually you see the progress in a percentage, current frame, etc; however, that just won't appear at all.

Is this the official forum for this program? I ask because I have used it for about the last 6 months and it has been great!

However, the last version I could get to work is 2.4.7. I have tried 3 different 3D disks and in my attempts to try to rip a SBS/TAB MKV it has failed on all of them. I saw a couple posts here about the audio having some issues and on this last one I changed the default audio choice to "untouched" It still fails.

The disk I am currently trying to rip is "Escape From Planet Earth" 3D. It is not a new movie.

I had the same issue with "Inside Out" which is new though.

I'm at a loss. I also don't see where any error log files are for troubleshooting.

I asked if this is the forum because there are many features I don't know how to use and would love to see a full manual as well as a place to ask question. If this is the place, thank you!
