Hmm,... might be that it requires DirectX to be installed.
What happens if you call QSVEncC from a windows prompt (terminal)? Any error message?

Everything is fine. It tells that there is an error due to no command given but the same is on the other OS and it works... kinda. read further. DirectX Web setup says I was fine already and I believe te problem might be in missing some files in Windows folder maybe? As I said read further.
Man, this program looks great but...
Another try installing on Windows 8.1:
1. Installed fine and working. YEY! Immediately updated Intel HD 4000 driver to the latest OEM (15.33.22.64.3621) and... Can't launch Hybryd anymore LOL! It can't find msvcP120.dll.
I copied 2 files from Dynamic and DynamicX to SysWOW64 and System32 flders and it worked.
2. Decided to doublecheck again and uninstalled Hybrid (fully with Uninstall manager). Installed again (as admin) and... this time it couldn't launch because couldn't find msvcR120.dll! Funny:)
As I found out this time it was missing just in a folder SysWOW64.
Update: Reinstalled driver Intel HD 15.33.22.64.3621 on Windows 7 and it worked now.
Could somebody tell me if it is possible to encode video in LOSSLESS with Hybrid?

a. Like the changelog mentioned a de- and reinstall was recommend.
*NOTICE*
Windows: it's recommend to uninstall old Hybrid versions (settings do not have to be removed) before installing this or a newer version
b. Unless you tell me which program is complaining about a dll, I can't fix it.
Could somebody tell me if it is possible to encode video in LOSSLESS with Hybrid?
Yes it is.
x264 in lossless mode
FFV1
UT Video
FFvHuff
are all lossless (you will still suffer losses if you do color conversions or filtering, but the output of the decoder will be compressed lossless)
Ajvar
10th July 2014, 08:19
Thank you. I will use one of those encoders for lossless.
I did not have any older version of Hybrid. As I told I installed it on 2 freshly installed OS: Windows 7 and Windows 8.1.
And as for a program which is complaining about dll... it is Hybrid_2014.7.3.1 It ass complaining about dlls. Some error message like qaas is empty or smth like that.
Now it seems launch fine even if I move those files from Windows folder so I just happy that it works.
Selur
10th July 2014, 08:25
It is complaining about dlls
Hybrid itself should not be able to complain about a missing dll, only the tools used by Hybrid should be able to.
-> Look at the window again, normally you should get something like:
---------------------------
mp4fpsmod.exe - System Error
---------------------------
The program can't start because MSVCR100.dll is missing from your computer. Try reinstalling the program to fix this problem.
---------------------------
OK
--------------------------- (the content of such popups normally can be copied using ctrl+c ;))

b. this time uninstallation is recommend since the file locations changed (see changelog) to avoid problems when Visual C++ 2010 or 2013 runtime aren't installed
So resetting defaults doesn't hurt, not cleaning the Hybrid folder might.
So if we uninstall with Windows ("add or remove programs"), that's enough and the settings and profiles are not lost ?
Selur
12th July 2014, 13:27
"add or remove programs" simply calls Hybrids uninstaller, which at the end of the installation asks whether or not you want to delete the settings&co.

So if we uninstall with Windows ("add or remove programs"), that's enough and the settings and profiles are not lost ?
... Also if you worried about losing any profiles etc, & updated to the latest version you may wanna have a look at the global user profiles you have & a look at the 'tools tab' (when 1 of your old profile has been applied) & correct the Paths for some of the tools.
Some of the tools are in a Dynamic or DynamicX folder (within the Hybrid program files DIR)
Selur
12th July 2014, 13:48
you could also simply make a copy of your settings folder,...
Win7: C:\Users\USERNAME\AppData\Roaming\hybrid
WinXP: C:\Documents and Settings\USERNAME\Application Data\hybrid
Linux: /home/USERNAME/.hybrid/
Mac: /users/USERNAME/Library/Application Support/hybrid
Some of the tools are in a Dynamic or DynamicX folder (within the Hybrid program files DIR)
any having them inside the Hybrid folder and inside a dynamic folder will cause problems

Ok, and if I choose not to delete it, there will be no problem with the next installation (it does not overwrite the undeleted folders) ?

config, internals, create debug file, level x
You can save this setting (save, all in bottom right corner) to get this file each time you open Hybrid.
I don't remember if the file is created directly or if you have to save this setting, close Hybrid and open it again. And I don't remember either where this file is created, probably in the source or output folder.
If you have a problem with QSVEncC while you don't use it, I believe you can simply remove it from Hybrid's folder.

@ Music Fan:
Thanks for your answer, but here's how it goes.
Installation (as admin) runs ok, setup complete.
When I want to run Hybrid, I get error 1.
Whatever I do with error 1, after that I directly get error 2.
After closing error 2 Hybrid doesn't start. No window/GUI whatsoever.
Can you advise? I'm a noob at this :stupid:
Thanks in advance

if you had another (older) Hybrid version installed, make sure to uninstall it before installing hte latest version
if you got a QuickSync capable Intel CPU and QSVEncC crashes, make sure to install the latest Intel CPU graphic drivers from https://downloadcenter.intel.com/default.aspx.
if you do not have a QuickSync capable CPU and get a QSVEncC crash please share what OS and CPU you are using
if everything fails, you can always delete the QSVEncC.exe from your Hybrid folder, Hybrid will take a bit longer on startUp, but it should not show any errors and hide QSVEnc from the GUI.
And I don't remember either where this file is created, probably in the source or output folder.
Inside the 'output'/'default output' folder, if neither a 'default output' nor an 'output' folder folder is specified no debug output file will be created.

I run Windows 7 64 bit with Core i7 2600K.
During latest driver from your suggested link, I got this:

Installed anyhow. I had no such issues with earlier versions of Hybrid.
Do wonder where I got this newer driver from... Windows update perhaps, or silent auto-update from MoBo manufacturer ASUS?
But, it did the trick. Hybrid works smoothly again, thanks for the help :)

Tested latest Hybrid_140727_64bit_binary_qt48 version with a DVD.
It completed the encoding well.
Will try with a Blu-Ray.
Already posted in other thread, but I feel it could be interesting to inform also here.
In last x264-r2453-ea0ca51 version I read in the --help:
Filtering:
--vf, --video-filter <filter0>/<filter1>/... Apply video filtering to the input file
Filter options may be specified in <filter>:<option>=<value> format.
Available filters:

select_every:step,offset1[,...]
Selur, do you know how this select_every filter works under x264?.
Do you thin it could be used to encode a selected percentage of the footage in crf mode where we don't know what will be the final file size?.

Dvd sources: for ages now I've awarded dvd shrink simply to cut episodic TV dvds into individual titles as they're often all in 1 title on the discs...
I know it's not the best way of cutting know get a clean cut on start/ends of files) so asked on forum & was directed towards either cuttermaran or mpeg2schnitt.
Will give cuttermaran a try later,
As far as output goes I've always kept.. Vob files (dvd titlesets) to a maximum size...
Is it fine to do that or is sticking to the '1gb limit' proffered?
Cheers.

if you encode these episode with the same settings, you could also copy the source 1:1 (without the copy protection) to hdd and use the 'Queue titles' option.

a. assuming there is a PGC per episode you could use: http://download.videohelp.com/jsoto/dvdtools.htm to get just a specific episode
b. size shouldn't really matter unless one of the tools has a problem with that, but I'm not aware of any such problem, or you author a dvd with it again (I would suspect that mencoder/mplayer would then not 'like' such large vob files that belong to an .ifo file)
c. personally I use cuttermaran to cut mpeg-2 content (first I normally send it through ProjectX and then process it with cuttermaran)

Dvd-Shrink makes clean cuts, I use it for a long time. But as it is only done on keyframes, it's not as precise as a smart rendering tool.

Yeah I've used dvd shrink for years too...
wasn't sure.. The cuttermaran frame accurate so has an advantage with getting a better range of cut points

Actually, according to your needs, you can make a first cut with Dvd-Shrink (to avoid to copy the entire dvd on your HDD) including a slightly larger part than what you need then make a more precise cut with a smart rendering tool.

There is a problem with last version on XP 32 : when I open an avs script including a 1080p video @ 23.976 fps and choose x264, Hybrid wants to change its framerate to 25 fps and resize it to 720*576 while I don't need these changes ! And I don't see how to remove them.
edit : actually there is no resize if I don't check hardware and don't choose Blu-ray/avchd in restriction settings (and if I choose DXVA, I can untick the resize in crop/resize window). But I'd like to check Blu-ray/avchd, I used to let it checked without problem with old versions (I don't remember until which one, I didn't make encoding for a while).
