Log doesn't help me at all since it does not contain the decoder call. :)
My guess is that Hybrid messes up with the decoder call.
-> see: http://www.selur.de/support how to create a debugOutput log :)
(delete the old job from the job queue, restart hybrid, set the output, enable the debug output, do everything until you created the crash, upload the debugOutput to e.g. pastebin and send me a link to it)

After some thinking about it, I think I see the problem. :)
If you did enable 'x264->Misc->Adjustments->Adjustments->Use internal decoder if possible' the problem is that x264 seemingly can't decode your file.
-> if this option is enabled ffmpeg or mencoder will be used to decode the file and x264 itself will not do the color conversion.
If ffmpeg/mencoder also fail and you can upload a small sample of such a file I can look into it and may be figure out a workaround.

If you got a vfw decoder installed for the Sony Packed YUV codec it might help to use the 'avisynth extension' this way AviSource should be used which than will use the vfw decoder. (not 100% so a sample might be good)

I don't know, the codec is installed in ths system as part of Sony Vegas Pro. So there should be a decoder too, right?

The Sony YUV videos (4:2:2) make ffms and lavf to crash. And the only way to run them with avs is using ffdshow pipe. (Not precise).

I will test that about unchecking internal decoder. If fail, Ill send you the requested log.

EDIT: That was already unchecked as I can see :\
I will try a uncompressed RGB24 sample. Also, I will send you a sample of a Sony YUV encodec video: http://7054977.netau.net/files/input.zip

Not sure if it's a vfw decoder or a directshow decoder or an internal decoder, but using the avisynth extension might be worth a try.

a small sample will probably help more, that way I can try to reproduce the problem here. :)

Reencoding works fine here (with 'x264->Misc->Adjustments->Adjustments->Use internal decoder if possible' disabled).
If it does not for you it's probably because I tweaked my Hybrid version by downloading the 'binary codec pack' from http://www.mplayerhq.hu/design7/dload.html#binary_codecs extracted it into the Hybrid folder and renamed it from 'windows-essential-20071007' to 'codecs' this way Hybrids mencoder and mplayer version can use it to decode some more exotic content. ;) (see: http://forum.selur.de/topic33-hidden-hybrid-options.html)

Does it crash with Use internals enabled?
Downloading that pack...

Selur
22nd December 2012, 17:43
Yes, when using the internal decoder of x264 it crashes for me too -> aside from the ridiculously long codec id/info MediaInfo doesn't offer any means to differentiate this file from others as far as I see otherwise I would write a workaround so that Hybrid automatically does not use the internal decoder. btw. it's not really worth to use the internal decoder anyways since I never encountered a case where it was faster than decoding with another application and piping to x264. ;) (I did however encounter a few files that were faster when not decoded directly through x264)

Cu Selur

Bleck
22nd December 2012, 17:50
It was always faster for me. When using ffmpeg as pipe, I had like 3 fps vs 15-20 fps with internal.
(Video encoding was slow too).

Selur

Really? Okay, seems like your samples clearly differ from the once I tested with. :)

btw. since you probably have more of those files created with Vegas, to they all show a TCOD&TCDD flag? (see: mediainfo --fullhelp "path to file") If they do I could use that as indicator not to use the internal decoder. :)

I'm sorry to jump in here, when you're now discussing the CUDA thing (not for Linux, I'm afraid...)
1. you can keep the idx/sub subtitles, if your decoder software support them (mp4box and Hybrid do), no need to convert to .srt

Yes selur, the decoder does support them.
As there was no forced subs in the sub stream, I created my own ones from the original stream. And to read and select them, I had to convert to srt.
I will try again with testing version.

do that, especially try the 'Search hidden forced subttiles on DVD'
here's the toolTip info for it:
When enabled Hybrid will look for forced subtitle inside other subtitle tracks.
Warning: Preview of such tracks won't work, due to a bug in MPlayer, see: http://lists.mplayerhq.hu/pipermail/mplayer-users/2007-March/066118.html

I un installed the various ms visual updates... & went thru them 1 by 1.

I solved the eedi3.dll error, the 2005 ms visual studio update stops it error there.

I'm not sure what the 2008 ms visual studio does (if it's even relevant, although both 2008 & 2005 mentioned in the previously linked thread).

So the 2005 update solves the eedi3.dll from failing to load, but i now get an error saying "can't load SSE2Tools.dll" error=0x7e

Can I ask exactly what versions of the ms visual redistritable you've got on you PC?, or anything else that windows maybe relying on to correctly do what we need it to.?
Thanks.
Merry Christmas :)

*gig* my windows pc is a development machine of mine, which has lots of runtimes installed. ;)
http://s13.postimage.org/hv2qm7ph3/runtime_Etc.png
+ the main question is: "What is causing the problem on your machine?"
since you are the only user ever to report this, something on your system must be different to normal installations.
(and taking my system as a starting point doesn't seem like a good idea ;))
-> did you do any uncommon modifications to you system e.g. stop some services?

Don't know what's the problem, but at least now I can also try to figure out what's causing this. ;)

using http://www.dependencywalker.com/ I got the info:
1. eedi3.dll needs a vcomp.dll
2. SSE2Tools.dll needs MSVCR71.dll -> can be fixed by putting msvcr71.dll into the avisynthplugins folder

Does hybrid 'generally' play nicely with Win8?...
aside from the avisynth issue: Yes. No real problems so far. (I think the current official doesn't support drag&drop, dev version does.)

-> to resolve the SSE2Tools.dll loading, it's enough to copy msvcr71.dll into the avisynthplugins folder
to fix the eedi3.dll loading only installing Visual Studio 2005 runtime + Visual Studio 2005 runtime SP1 seems to fix the issue :/

SEt posted an eedi3.dll (http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?p=1607912#post1607912) which doesn't require vcomp.dll -> simply replace the eedi3.dll in the avisynthextension with the new one and it should work. :)
-> updated the avisynth extension to include the new eedi3.dll and msvcr71.dll

selur,
in your last testing version, audio language tags are lost.
Previously, when I added audio language tags, when I wanted to select a language, I could see the language tag I wanted to select.
With last testing version, I just see audio track numbers, but not the language tag.

a. what version are you using? (latest testing is 2012.12.29.1)
b. what are you doing?
I just tested:
1. start hybrid
2. load file
3. activate tagging
4. and under Tag->Audiostream tagging I can select the audio stream and the language without a problem
Under Main->Audio and Audio->Main->Track you can either see just 'Track number' or 'Track number - language' depending if the source had language infos for the streams.

There's nothing wrong with Hybrid GUI, I see audio tracks correctly, and I apparently tag audio correctly.
BUT, when I play the encoded mp4 file with VLC, or see properties in MediaInfo, it just shows audio track numbers, and not language, as it used in mp4 encoded with previous Hybrid versions.
I hope I explained myself better now.

could there be a selection when passthru (audio handling) is able to specify wich track to passthru, or both?

If you want to passthrough all audio streams except a specific one the quickest way would be to: load source with Audio handling set to passthrough all, then switch Audio handling to Custom and remove the one audio track you don't want.
If you want to passthrough an audio track with a specific language and no others, the quickest way would be to set Config->Automation->On Load->Select audio with language and Main->Audio handling->Custom, than load your source and press the '+' in the audio tab.
If you want to only add stream x and y the quicktest way would probably be to set Main->Audio handling->Custom and add the streams manually.

Hybrid does not have some additional logic language that allows you to specify to only add e.g. "the third audio only if the 1st one is french and only add the first one if it's chinese". :)

now that i have started looking at de-interlacing methods....
i have a small sample PAL 720X576 (interlaced) top field first 25fps., before i had the avisynth working i tried 'bob' mode.... it produces the best output so far in terms of getting rid of comb effects. however i would prefer to keep original frame-rates.
it outputs @ 50fps, plays fine... 1min source clip = normal speed.
After doing a quick test of QTGMC (slower preset) even, + bob....
outputs @ 50fps, mediainfo reports it as 1min duration, = plays back at double speed.?...puzzled. (is this normal?, or am i missing a setting, anothet step?)

im not even sure of the best ways of doing this stuff just yet....

There's a small display bug in the current version, it shows the QTGMC configuration even if QTGMC is not selected -> make sure you select QTGMC as Deinterlacer if you want to use it. :)
Other than that using QTGMC + bob should double the fps and the frame count, so the length should stay the same. (that's what a bobber is supposed to do)
-> just tested, if QTGMC is selected as Deinterlacer the output is sync here

But after encoding with Hybrid they are grey with white border, and it does make them more difficult to be read.

Is there any adjustment in Hybrid to tweak subtitle colour?. I looked for it but didn't find any.
If there's no way to tweak subs colour, any advice on how to modify them to look like the original?.

:thanks:

What are you doing exactly? converting srt->ttxt? converting ass -> ttxt? passing through srt/ass/idx/... subtitles? hardcoding subtitles?
If you are passing through subtitles -> Hybrid shouldn't change anything.
If you are converting to ttxt -> If your input are srt subtitles: Hybrid doesn't have an option to specify the color of the subtitles. .srt subtitles do not have color infos, the color they are displayed in depends on the subtitle decoder. (I can probably write some code for it tomorrow or on Sunday) If your input subtitles are ass formated, the color should be transfered to ttxt. (if not I can look into it)
If you are embedding/hardcoding subtitles there is a bunch of options to overwrite/set colors.

They are the original subtitles, just passed through.
And they are played in the same player, VLC, the original DVD (the files in the HDD) and the Hybrid encoded file.

I thought that just passing through shouldn't change anything, but colours are different.

If your are not hardcoding the subtitles Hybrid will, extract the subtitles using MPlayer (and create a idx/sub files) and than mux these subtitles with mp4box/mkvmerge depending on the output format you choose.
This should not change any information regarding the subtitles, especially since these are picture based subtitles,...
-> I really doubt that this is a bug in Hybrid, sounds more like this is due to some setting in VLC. :)

You're probably right.
It may be a problem in MPlayer (when extracting the subs), or VLC when playing them.
I don't think it's a setting in VLC, since I don't change anything, and some subs are shown correctly and others wrong, with same settings.
I don't have another h264 player.
I played it in Hybrid-preview subtitles, and they are shown as grey/light white with black border (better than in VLC)

My bet is on VLC. :)
I doubt that mplayer is even able to change the color or picture subtitles.
(not using VLC here; I use MPC-HC+Lav Filters+madVR or Windows and (S)MPlayer on Linux&Mac)

Is it ok that Hybrid uses mencoder to decode videos even though I chose ffmpeg as preferred decoder? I was trying to convert a lossless utvideo (hd 720p) to x264 and the result was a complete mess. While ffmpeg is able to decode utvideo properly (build it myself :) ), I can't say anything about good old buggy mencoder, but I doubt it.

I'm using the latest Hybrid on Linux Debian 32bit
