What is the link to the one program where not only does it remove the drm for you, but it also renames your files to take off the [NODRM] tag?

I use tag and rename for that. It works great as you can download a cover album art picture for use in itunes,If you havce the whole cd that is, as well as grab when it was made, what record company, a description of the music cd, ect. But all i use it for is to grab the correct way of the song titles and cover art. I normally go for full cds when i download. A sickness I have. I have over 80 gigs of music and some i dont even like - but hey - it was avalible. Plus i transfered a lot of cds of y parents to mp3.

Ohg thats another program i use. DB poweramp. I transfer everything to .mp3 instead of wma. That way my ipod will play it along with any other device compatabile of mp3.

My progress is download music - umm purchase music is the official way - then strip the drm, then convert to mp3, then take the full album and put into tag and rename to grab album art and offical titles. A lengthy process, but my collection is for the most part very good.

What is the absolute latest version of WMP11 that FairUse4WM will work with? I've done a clean install of XP and want to use FU4M with WMP11 but without the instability of the beta versions.

That link is expired. FairUse4WM 2006-12-09 FIX (formerly 2006-11-27) is the most recent I've found. Unfortunately, there have been some updates since then which means...newer downloads are still locked. Grrrr...

The tag and rename program is awesome! It makes it easy to rename those mp3 files now.

If you really need fairuse4wm, there are torrents available it looks like.

The program you're thinking of is FairUse Commander. I can't find a link for it anymore, but it's the most useful renamer because it integrates so well into FU4WM

Hey Blutach! Sorry if put it down with going through the rules but I needed to express myself what i really feel about mocosoft. I remember when I was watching the news 2 months ago and microsoft said that he will give 10 000 dollars if someone hack the code in Windows Vista! I guess they should give the amount already 'cause there are a lot of toys to activate Windows Vista and etc... I guess V will come soon with FairUse1.4.

I dunno about hacking Vista (any discussion is strictly against rule 6), but I wish you'd learn what the edit button is there for. 4 posts in a row in short time is bewildering.

You and I know that people are not purchasing DRM music then using this tool. People are renting the music through the music subscriptions then removing the DRM from the music. If you purchased the music you can burn it to a CD or convert it to MP3 to remove the DRM.

Perhaps some folks are... I just used it to buy the tune (I have no problem paying for music - just hate DRM because my iHP140 won't play that crap) and remove the DRM without going through the lossy steps of burning and re-ripping. I had a few too many beers one night and for some reason let Windows Update install their v11 WMP. Now I've just stopped buying DRM music - who loses there? eMusic doesn't have all the music I'd like it to, but at least I can pay for it, compensate the artists, and not have crippled music files.

Burning to CD then making an MP3 takes longer, costs more and results in lower quality. Try playing DRM from a portable player which is plugged into a dash player, laptop or receiver and used as a storage device...

It's kinda funny...I'm running Windows XP emulated in Windows Vista on an Apple iMac :) Hehe

Anyway, it works great since FairUse4WM and Windows Media Player think they are running in Windows XP, so I just used my same old 12-09 fix to manually downgrade after I had gotten all the Windows updates.

So long as you follow it word for word, and you meet all the requirements listed on their site, it should work. Its worked for the 5 computers I've set it up on and a few of my friends too... Give it a shot, as its worth a try.

According to MS Virtual PC download site VPC won't work on Vista Premium, is that correct? If so, that bites. Perhaps I should simply install Windows XP and dual boot. I'd rather use VPC within Vista though - has anyone tried to install it under Vista Premium?

Hello everyone! I've been downloading video from unbox and removing the drm. For the first time lastnight I got an error for just one of the videos. It would show that it removed the drm then it would show an error and delete the undrm video. Anyone know what could be wrong? The video is downloaded completely and plays fine with drm.

UNABLE TO DECRYPT: Size Error: 3472328296227680304 cannot be truncated to 808464432.

EDIT: I found a way around this. As the fairuse was removing the drm, i played the undrm video file in WMP until fairuse was finished then the fairuse error came up and i hit close. Since the undrm video was still playing it wouldn't automatically delete. So all is ok!

Here it is working, I installed Virtual PC yesterday, and Windows XP today, so this is 100% working and can be done by anyone using Vista. I am doing this on an intel MAC, so anyone should be able to do this.

P.S. - You can installed Virtual PC on XP also, so you can run an older version of XP on your more updated version of XP. That way if you can get your main host OS to work with FairUse4WM, then you can at least get the virtual PC one to work with it, so these instructions work for anyone who needs FairUse4WM to work. This is a guaranteed method, since you are doing a clean install of XP in your virtual machine, and as long as you don't update it will keep working.

The "2007-04-29" fix should be the end to everyone's problems...just load Virtual PC and just run a more out-of-date XP within your main OS. All you will be using it for is downloading music and FairUse4WM so you only need to tell Virtual PC to allocate like 128mb ram while it's running...You can also set up a shared folder to move the new un-DRM'd files back over to your host OS, so it's just like having another networked computer.

the people who use URGE will need WMP11 to even run URGE, so that wouldn't help those users, that's why i posted the fix...makes WMP11 work (which helps all users no matter what service you use, urge or not)

Let me just throw on my two cents, however...

It's OK to install most Windows updates. All critical updates are fine to install, it's the optional ones you gotta look out for, and even then most are clean (just make sure to look at the KB article to see what they're updating. The only update I've seen that forces you to update your IBX is one I detailed in a previous post).

Maybe I am missing the point of the virtual PC, or my install is messed up. when I start up the VPC I can not access my "real" hard drive, only the "virtual" one. is this normal, or is there something I am missing here?
