Solved a problem I've been having with a video I was given access to, it's a film which I want to watch while I'm on the train going home tomorrow (but I don't have any Internet connection on the train! dur) so that was really frustrating me. Hi - am a newbie to the forums and definitely not a computer expert so would like to thank Viodentia firstly for an excellent program - its very annoying when you buy music/video and aren't allowed to do what you want with it!

Secondly just to note that I tried MilOtis' rollback fix and whilst using those instructions didn't work for me (yes I did follow to the letter but somehow still had WMP11 and the same old IBX number at the end!) - I kind of adapted it and did it this way:

Used the Windows Rollback from WMP11 to WMP10, then also rolled back WMP11 Runtime.

Then I deleted the stuff in the DRM folder and upgraded through the microsoft site. hurrah! I got the older IBX. Can now use FairUse4WM again. Only prob I have is that some of the licences I used have gone and the provider says I have used too many times and has "expired" even tho I have "backedup" my licences (as an aside - anyone know how to fix this/get the licences to work again from backup?).

However, this doesn't really bother me as I'd already used FU4WM on them and backed up onto DVD.

So thanks everyone for input and I hope some of those stuck with WMP11 can use the above info.

Shame that the original programmer got slapped with that suit from Microsoft - no wonder he went into hiding, but thank you anyway - I wish I was as clever as that. :D

Quit the BS because if you bought it you could burn it to a cd and rip it to MP3 and do whatever you want with it. If you are referring to To-go services then that music you do not own and are simply renting it.

It is working 100% FairUSe4WM 1.3fix and also Fairuse4WM1.3. Both are still working but with windows media player 9. Please, follow the instruction and read well. If you dont rollback to media player 9 u will get a lot of errors,.
Viodenta, I just need it to say that you are really good man. incredible how fast your program put the fucking mocosoft protection out. hahaha. The only problem is I can not use Urge.com because it says that it needs windows media player 11 so that I didnt get it but with yahoo music I made it and It is working very good. Thanks a lot again. Hahaha. Now I am so happy and about microsoft, I just wanna say that they really stole the money from people. I just use windows because of the games but Mac and linux is the best.

Your DRM folder is merely hidden. You need to uncheck hide protected system files to see it.

Please read the previous pages of this topic. You must have WMP 11 final. You need to downgrade to WMP11beta using the 11/17 fix. A link for it is here in this forum.

I just spent about nine hours total this past weekend trying madly to either "roll back" my system and install WMP 11 Beta 2 or just go back to 10. No joy here w/milOtis's info.

At one point, I decided to rip everything out by the roots and used XPLite pro to do it. I uninstalled everything from 9+, scoured the registry for straggling references to WMP 11 5721.5145 and deleted them, then used XPLite to re-install WMP 9. That worked. Next, I got a copy of WMP 10 and tried to install. System complained that "this version of Media Player cannot be installed on your system." I then installed WMP 11 Beta 2. The install went okay and the player works, but I cannot go to the individualization site milOtis references. The button to perform the task stays grayed out.

Now, If I uninstall Beta 2, install WMP 11 final and visit the site, the button can be clicked. If I follow milOtis's directions and copy the Beta 2 files over top of the Final version files before visiting and clicking, I still get a higher version IBX file. Additionally, the player won't work as it displays the error "version 5721.5145 expected, 5705.5043 installed. Do you want to visit Microsoft's site and re-install?" I've even tried the trick of turning off Windows File Protection and copying the same files from the install over the ones in C:\windows\system32\dllcache with no luck.

From what I've been able to tell, there are a number of other files that get installed to the Windows directory when WMP 11 is installed that are versioned the same number as the final version of WMP 11. (You can tell by searching the registry for 5721.5145.) These are not included in milOtis's fix files. If the versions don't jibe, not only won't individualization work but WMP 11 won't even load.

I'm about ready to do a system flush and re-install from scratch. It's been about 2 years since the last one anyway... :D

I was having the same issue about not being able to roll back. I found out how to completly remove WMP 11 final, and then reinstall 11 beta. It worked great for me. I did find some pages which helped to completly remove all of the WMP 11. Go here read through the whole page, and then do what it says.

There is an important step half way down the page, look for this "I tried every possible solution that was give in all the sites..... maybe there are even tools which i might have not come across... but the following worked for me... so i hope it will work for u too

after the rollback is complete... a restart might be required... then afterwards...

What a rude person! No actually you can't - you can burn the file to CD but the tv episodes I bought (from direct2drive.com) and paid for have the DRM on them so you can't make them into DVDs to watch on your TV - I also buy music from Digirama.co.nz and their stuff is also protected so you can't even put it into I-Tunes without ripping it first. I, together with a lot of these other people in this forum think you should be able to do what you like with this music/video if you have bought it. (and no its not To-go - all the things I have got I have clicked a "buy" button and paid with my credit card not a "rent" button)

So why don't you quit being rude to other people and find out your facts first - what do you think all these other people are posting about - and that is what FairUse4WM is all about, being able to use stuff you have paid for - if you haven't got anything useful to add to the forum and all you are going to do is insult people then don't bother posting.

The Problem is that I use Vista, and there is no such folder. Well, there is a folder c:\programdata\DRM , but it is totally empty (even with hidden files activated...)

Make sure you click the option to show protected files as well. I had the same problem as you until i read i had to not only click "show all hidden files" but "show protected files" too. Good luck! I'm using XP so hope vista is similar.

It might be true. I'm not sure if you can really rollback in vista though, since it comes with wmp11 final already installed so you might be screwed already.

However, you could always run a virtual machine inside vista with windows xp sp2, and do your music downloading in there.

just drag the two folders into your program folder and click yes

I don't know why you say this but the FIX works just fine.

Because XP recovery files replaces the files with the newer version. Puts it right back on. It even complains about trying to run the older version. I put on Beta 2 version and it works perfectly fine. So I removed the final version and put on installed beta 2 version and it works fine. But XP WILL NOT let you replace the newer files it replaces them immediately.

Yep, those links didn't work last night for me but seem ok now.

This was my first experience with DRM music- I was anti DRM before (but not hellbent against it) but now I dislike it even more. The reason I bought them was b/c a legal site called Peer Impact is having a deal where you can buy singles/albums at .25 / $2.50
and they have a huge selection, and some of it is in unprotected mp3. But playing back and burning the protected wma is a real pain in the ass. Waiting several seconds for every stinking file to check online for the license before it will play sucks big time. I brought my laptop into the exercise room and loaded up some techno files to listen to during my workout. After a song ended, the music stopped to get the license for the next track and wouldn't play until I pressed the ok/play button. That was somewhat disrupting my exercise. And it's not just once per track, sometimes I have to reauthorize the track if i play it later. It would be one thing if I could pre-authorize all tracks at once before playback and never worry about it again, but the way it is now really sucks.

And then there are the burning issues. The Peer Impact company provides an app to download/play/burn the music they have. But it gave me messages like "burning has been temporarily disabled- please use WMP to to burn CD". Well I tried that and it didn't work- as far as I can tell there are 2 ways to burn with WMP9 (what I have on win2k) with a roxio or nero plugin which is free. The Nero plugin won't play ball with protected files, and the Roxio plugin failed to aquire the licenses of the WMA files even though I have them. Being computer savy, I knew of other apps that could burn protected wma. Real Player made me download some WMA SDK, reboot, and then install another update for WMA support. After doing that it said it was ready to burn and everything seemed to be fine until I actually tried to playback the burned CD- complete silence. So I tried MusicMatch Jukebox- it would start to burn the cd, then pause in the middle of burning to get the license evertime it was burning a new track. And guess what, the license getting procedure failed. That's four programs I tried to burn with and no results, unless you count 2 wasted CDRs.
Also I'd like to mention that my laptop is from 2001 (my only computer) so no built in wireless or usb 2.0. I have a single pcmcia card slot, which I usually use for wireless but will swap to a high speed usb2/firewire card when I do burning. If I have to get a damn license before or while burning, I am forced to reduce burning speed to 4x on the built in usb 1 port since I must access the net via the pcmcia wireless card.

So now fairuse4wm comes into play and strips that damn DRM right out. Plays instantly with no fuss in Media Player Classic and should work in my car stereo as-is without having to convert from burned-cdr to unprotected mp3 or wma. So again I'd like to thank the author.

Even after going through all this I ordered some more music from Peer Impact today. I guess they have the author of fairuse4wm to thank for that. But if they jack up the prices then forget it, but for now $2.50 an album or .25 per single is a pretty good deal. At least as long as I can declaw the DRM...

Does anyone know what to do if a error message of "unhandled situation -9071 occurs.

I can play the DRM file fine. But then when I close WMP this error comes up, but and I cant find anything from googling.

Am using FU4WM v1.3 and v1.3 fix

Hmm... I haven't noticed that. I've used Zune and WMP 11 on three computers without incident.

Computer 1: WMP Beta 1 --> Beta 2 --> Final, and installed Zune via download (before I installed WMP final)

Computer 2: Beta 2 --> Final, Zune via download

Computer 3: Beta 1 --> Final, Zune via CD.


It should be noted that computers one and three no longer work with FU4WM, but played fine together before I stupidly allowed them to update. I dunno if something happened on your computer, but I had no prompt to update WMP while installing Zune.

Not to be offensive or anything, but please don't post if you didn't actually install the software. You just made a lot more work for me that was pointless. In the process of installing the Zune Software, which you would know had you actually done it, it automatically installs "Windows Media Format 11 runtime."

If it helps, on my other computer, even though it has windows media player 11 and everything is all the way up to date, it still installs this runtime thing.

As I found out while completing the instructions included with 12- something -06 fix, after completing it, you get a problem with logging in to reobtain the licenses.

I don't know what else is there is that I can do. I should note that I didn't allow any updates. I had to install Windows Installer v3.1 to install the Zune Software, but no other changes have been made to the computer. Its running on windows media player v9.00.00.3250, but once I install the Zune Software, it automatically updates the Individualization key to the latest version.

Please, can someone please help me out...

Maybe the fix works for some and not others however it definitely did not work for me. I did however manage to get fairuse working by rolling back wmp 11 and wm runtime11 through add/remove programs. I then installed wmp 11 beta2 from oldapps and installed it. Next i delted everything in the drm folder and re-individualised and now everything works. Hope this helps anybody still having dificulties.

Aside, does anybody know of any good programs which will obtain song information for some music files on my computer? the files are on my computer, not on cd.

Not to be offensive or anything, but please don't post if you didn't actually install the software.

I installed both Zune and WMP 11 on 4 computers now with no issue. Maybe I just didn't pay too close attention to the install (or maybe it's because I installed WMP 11 before installing Zune) that I never saw a screen like what you posted.

Sorry I couldn't be of more help, but from personal experience it's worked for me.

I'm not sure exactly what the situation is with you, but I'd uninstall Zune first, then perhaps rollback to Beta 2. If I'm wrong, please accept my sincerest apologies. You just have to understand where I'm coming from (all XP, two MCE 2005 Rollup 2, one of which hooked to an XBOX 360).

I tired what you said... it didn't work... I got it so that it was one of the ibx versions that was approved with windows media 11 beta2, and then as soon as I installed the Zune software, it automatically updated it to the latest one.

I don't know how you got it working, but whenever the zune software is installed for me, it automatically updates it. Man you got lucky... Looks like I'll need to try something new...

I down loaded another movie and opened it with wm and it opens to watch, it's just I cannot undrm them. When my pass runs out my vid is gone
I did up grade to fair use 1.3 still the same, I rolled back to wm10 same problem.

If you use 1.1 click back then click recover key and when it asks you to choose a file to obtain a key from choose the movie file you are having problms with- this should sort it out.

If you are using 1.3 do the same only you shouldnt need to select an individual file. If you do again select the particular movie file. Hope this helps

so the fix that was posted *worked* for me on my other windows install, but now for some reason it doesnt work once I installed on my raid! Windows media 9 with winxp sp2 on fresh install. windows file protection is a pain and gets in the way, but I installed a program called wfpadmin which allows me to disable wfp for 1 reboot. I copy wmp files in that folder over but when I try to run the exe it says that windows media player is not properly installed, do I want to go to the microsoft website and reinstall. I ran fairuse4wm after and it says drmclien.dll has version 9.9.9.3250. If I skip it and it continues it says that indivbox.key has version 10.0.0.3646. I tried running wmp before and after applying the microsoft website drm update and deleting the contents of the folder.
Would it be possible for me to just copy the contents of the drm folder from the good known working windows install?
ideas? anyone else have this issue?


*edit* I resolved my issue. I downloaded a copy of wmp11 beta2 installer legit full from oldapps.com and installed it. after a reboot fairuse is now working fine :-)

In changing your wmp version you have updated it and received microsofts patch which stops fairuse working. Rollback wmp 11 and wmp 11 runtime through add/remove programs and then reboot. Next install wmp11 beta 2 from oldapps.com and when you have done that delte everything in the drm folder and re-individualise. Then just follow the steps that i said earlier.

I'm not sure, but I'd guess it has something to do with installing Zune Software v.1.0 (get a previous version, or take it from the CD). The two computers that still work with FairUse4WM (creating an account with any service provider will update ibx), one was updated with the CD, and one was installed from the website, two days before Zune itself was released. I think it may be an issue with v 1.2 of the Zune software, but I don't see any reason why it would affect PlaysForSure--doesn't Zune's marketplace use a different version (9.1 of Janus)? I don't understand why it would, but I guess I could be wrong. And hell, if I'm lucky, than so be it.

I have a file which asks for a username and password when I open the file, the problem being, I don't have a username and password anymore.

Any help is appreciated.

Blutach, thank you for your reply. Firstly, let me apologise to to you and other members of the forum, as it was not my intention to bring the integrity of the board into question, so for that I apologise.

Secondly, although I do not have to explain myself, I feel I should as you seem to have taken my comments to heart. My comment of "I don't have the time" is a true one - I am a Doctor working a night shift in a busy Trauma Department and as I am sure you will agree, my priorities lie with patients, not with 38 pages of text. So with that, my comments where true and did not intended to insult you or anyone else.

And as you to will hopefully find out, comments can always be taken in the wrong way, and interpreted in the worst possible way, despite them being made with the best possible intentions.
