ok ok, i am unsuspended now, if anyone needs help with all this fairuse4wm stuff, i just rolled back a friends' computer yesterday and so fairuse4wm is still working, and he even had all the latest updates and downloads from microsoft, so pm me if you need help, i have the instructions for how to fix fairuse4wm/wmp all wrapped up in a tidy package.

what do you mean how did i get a license key? are you assuming i don't own the dvd? you should know for protected movies like this - if not music - you are given a license key to playback the movie for a period of time, just look up "terminator" and you will understand

Typically, physical media with WMV files will use 1-play licenses so you access their server every usage.
Fix this by setting Windows Media to prompt for license acquisition. WM will get the license and wait for you to click "[Play]". If you don't click "[Play]", the license isn't consumed and other programs can use it.

It doesn't take much to confuse me - and I'm confused about the "Terminator 2" discussion in this thread.

Is this a purchased DVD that contains both the normal (.IFOs, .BUPs, .VOBs) resolution movie and a high res, .WMV version of either the entire movie or a portion of it?

Or is it strictly a purchased WMV/HD version?

(Or is it the little 2 minute clip that's freely available for download from Microsoft at:

How do you use this program anyway? Maybe it doesn't work for me because like you guys said my license is not stored on my system. Recover keys does nothing for me. I only ever looked into this program to remove DRM on this movie.

I think discussion of T2 HD is important because I have never seen DRM successfully stripped from it. No one seems to be able to back it up reading at avsforum and topics at doom9.

If that's the case, applying the logic we've all used to justify ripping DVDs, it would seem to me that if I purchased that two disc DVD set, I'd be equally entitled to rip both the standard version and the HD version contained in the purchased set - it's just a matter of different copy protection schemes...

I don't agree. If I bought the WMV HD DVD then I have right to watch it whenever I want. However the DRM restricts me: there is a need of internet connection, USA location, installing very buggy software (InterActual) and working license servers.

Two years ago, long before FairUse4WM I copied it to my HD. It was quite difficult process which I described here (http://archive2.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showthread.php?p=5556628&&#post5556628). But I bet with FairUse4WM it must be much easier.

I just downloaded Fairuse4wm, and I can't get it to work. I have already done some very extensive searching "several afternoons worth of looking", and I cant seem to find a clear solution to my problem. For all of you computer geeks, this probably seems clear cut, but for me it isnt. You need to download and use the 11-27 fix. You have too new of a version of the IBX. The 11-27 fix rolls back WMP 11 to WMP 11beta. Look for the file in the thread (it is here) and follow the instructions therein.

I have around 1200 protected WMA files, and I noticed that when I have tried to select all of them, fairuse4wm crashes. I assume that the error has something to do how many files I am selecting, but to my knowledge the limit on selecting files in most programs is around either 16,000 or 32,000. I know that the 32k limit is true in VB and C. Is there any way to get around that limit, such as loading the file list from an external source (txt or otherwise)?

Yes, all 1200 songs are bought, not rented. The DRM is not a problem since my IBX version is older, and is v11 beta.

I just got done doing ALOT of searching, and I have only managed to frustrait myself! I rolled my WMP11 back to WMP10, and downloaded FairUSeWM 1.2 (fix) I encountered a different problem however.

1. I click on Recover Keys, and I get a screen that says:
Attempting to recouver DRMv1 keys

FairUse4WM will use a WM-Installed DLL to determine system specific information.

"DrmClien.DLL" has version 10.0.3802

2. So I click "Ok" and get this message:
This program will freeze until Media Player exits. You may have to close Media Player manually if it runs longer than a minute.
"Indiv01.key" has version 11.6000.6324

Please close all Media Player windows!
Click OK what you are ready to proceed

3. So I close out of WMP and anything else, and hit "OK"

4. Then I get a winow that pops up that says: "Choose a licensed Windows Media file that has a working license..." Sooo, i proceed to do and select a Licensed Windows Media Player File in My Music...

4. Then Windows Media Player pops up, and says its trying to open media... I wait, and wait, and wait, and nothing happens...

5. I try and close out of WMP, and FairUse crashes "freaks out, and quits responding" I have done this with multiple WMP Licensed files, and I get the same result.

6. If I leave WMP open as I select a file to "Recover the Key from" I get an error that says:

Unable to recouver private key

Unhandled situation -9000 while Creating Windows Media instance.

Retry Cancel

7. So i click Retry, and it brings me right back to the "Recovering Unique Identifiers" window

Any help is greatly apreciated! Im new to this all, so if im doing something stupid, I dont intend to:p

I am trying to use this fairuse4wm1.3 and when I attempt to load my liscence I get an error message stating that I do not have any IBX Components. I have Windows mediaplayer 10 and have tried this on another computer of mine without any problems. Is there any way that I can get the required IBX components?

I just got done trying again, and still the same error. I know if following the directions correctly. I went back to the DRM folder, after i had deleted everything, and did the upgrade through the link provided, and it tells me that my IBX number is the same. Maybe the link provided isnt giving me the the right IBX #?

ok this is what I did and worked for me a month or so ago (hope I got this all right):

This is what microsoft suggests:
Rolling back to a previous version of the Player
Windows Media Player is a feature of the Windows operating system and cannot be removed entirely. However, in Windows XP, you can roll back to the version of the Player that was previously on your computer.

You must be logged on as an administrator or a member of the Administrators group to perform the following procedure.

1.
Disconnect any portable music or video devices that might be attached to your computer.
For more information, see Issues with devices after removing Windows Media Player.
2.
In Category View of Control Panel, click Add or Remove Programs, and then click Remove a program.
3.
At the top of the list, select the Show updates check box.
4.
In the Windows XP - Software Updates section, click Windows Media Player 11, and then click Change/Remove.
5.
In each of the two confirmation dialog boxes that appear, click OK.
6.
When the rollback process is complete (it might take several minutes to complete), click Restart.
7.
In Category View of Control Panel, click Add or Remove Programs, and then click Remove a program.

Download the roll back fix, delete everything in your DRM folders (make sure you are showing all hidden files and all microsoft protected files) and make sure you follow all directions in the roll back fix but do not copy the windows media player & runtime folders until after you do this:

GOTO ->
C:\WINDOWS\$NtUninstallwmp11$\spuninst\spuninst.exe

after the rollback is complete... a restart might be required... then afterwards...

C:\WINDOWS\$NtUninstallWMFDist11$\spuninst\spuninst.exe

restart.

Now copy the two windows media & runtime folders into your program folder. Now play a licensed file or go to ezdrm and try out a file and it will update to to the previous ibx version so fairuse should now work.

Try running with the FairUseCommander front end. For such a large amount of files it should invoke it's batch limiting code (if the batch feature is enabled) which may work around this problem (it will result is several calls to FairUse instead of just one to keep it under the 32k character command line argument length). If that still doesn't work you can disable the batching completely and it will call FairUse via command line 1200 times. It won't be pretty but it will get the job done.

I have only managed to screw my computer up, loose all of my music licenses "which I cant get back because I had to cancel to jukebox subscription", and really frustriate myself!:mad: :mad: :mad: So here goes the long process of trying to reverse all crap I did to my computer! I will wait for Viendata to come out with Fairuse4wm v1.4... I have had enough of this "rolling back" stuff! the license is forever to play which is the same as the bought music from other services, so if you use URGE subscription to download you OWN, wheras other services make your music unplayable when your subscription ends, so URGE downloads are the same as owning since the licenses work indefinately even after cancelling or ending the trial.

I had the latest version of WM11 on both of my PC's and tried everything and it wouldn't work until I figured out I had to uninstall the WM11 redistributible along with WM11. Go into your windows folder and look for the WM11 uninstall as well as the WM11 redistributible uninstall. Run both. This will revert you back to WM10 or WM9 depending on what you had previously. Then you can delete your license files as described. Don't bother going to the windows website to generate new licenses. Just go to www.oldapps.com and download WM11 Beta. When you install the beta, it will give you the old WM11 redistributible at the same time and generate your license files. You can then buy a song from Walmart.com and play it once and then extract the Walmart.com keys with fairuse4wm. I've done it on 3 different PC's now without any problems (all of them had the latest WM11 on it). Keep in mind that the minute you delete your old license files to generate new ones, any content you had locked to those keys will no longer be playable or extractable. This will only work on new files you purchase.

I have done this a few times over the last week but it seems that MS has put in a catch when installing an older version. It says that there is a problem with the install and asks you to download from their site. I have successfully rolled back the WMP11 but I can't get my old player to work. It crashes when I try to play a movie.

I got fairuse awhile back and im having the same problem as mountainbike extremest. now i dont care how i do it but i really twant to strip drms off my music. it has literally been driving me insane. ive tried pretty much every tutorial on here and i was wondering if any of you have an idea to make fairuse work or if there is a different way to stip drms? I'm good wi9th computers (i built my own :]) but i cant figure out how to get this program to work. this is also my first time with drm stripping...:D

i doubt it will work in the final version of Vista since that ships with the Final version of WMP11.
And who knows MS may have blocked any tampering with drm files on the software lvl as they have done wth blu-ray and hd-dvd playback.

We will just have to wait and see.
The best bet for folks who want to remove drm and don't want the headache of rolling back software or deleting folders is
1)To create a streamlined install disc of XP using Nlite.
2) Use Vmware server or another virtual pc emulator.
3)Install your streamlined version of XP in that environment and use THAT as your music/movie purchase pc.

Never update to wmp11 final use the last beta beta 3 i believe, and until wmp11 final becomes the default player just use fairuse on the virtual environment and transfer your drm free media over to your real pc with good old networking.

I had my Windows use automatically update so it installed Windows media 11 automatically and I couldn't convert my DRM files anymore.
I try everything in the book still couldn't get it to do it.
so, I redo my PC from an image file that I created with WM 10
Now it's working with no problem.
So, my suggestion is roll it back to WM 10 and wait till they come out the one that will work with WM 11 then upgrade it to WM 11.

IBX stands for individualized blackbox component. This deals with DRM. I have that same version as you "it is the newest, and WILL NOT work with the latest FairUse. Check out "Post #824" I tried this technique, and had no suck luck. Only managed to frustriate myself, and my computer:mad: I too have done extensive searching. Im sure there is a way to get it to work, but I have yet to find it, nor do do I have the time to tinker with it "college student." Right now, i think our best bet is to wait for Voiedata to come out with v1.4. Until then, I patently wait. My nrofessional advice "if you have plenty of time" is to do some searching for "11.0.6000.6324" If you happen to find a solution that works, PM me:D :thanks:

weird thing is is that mine wont roll back to wmp 10...
if it did then fairuse would work on my comp but other than that im stuck at the moment. i might go to oldapps.com to get wmp 10, cause i did an upgrade from wmp 9 to the latest wmp 11...then i rolled back to wmp 11 beta 1. this fairuse thing is really weird for me... but im going to get it to work...i am determined.................lol

Five days isnt that long but I felt like a kid waiting for the new Star Wars movie to come out.

Hopefully someone can help me. I am using Windows MCE and am recording movies for later viewing. More and more lately the movies are protected and when I try to play them on other devices (ie - MiniPS, Other PC, work, on a trip, etc...) I get the message Restricted Content. This really urks me because I am in no way trying to pirate movies I just want to view the movies I have recorded.

I have tried running FairUse4WM but it does not give me the option to select a DVR-MS movie. I have also tried DVR2WMV to convert the DVR to a WMV file so I could use FairUse4WM but the program just hangs and doesnt convert the file.

Could someone please help?

I don't believe there will be anymore updates to fairuse4wm since Microsoft's John Doe lawsuit.

Hello, for those of you that have tried the new fixes and so forth with version 1.3, these fixes (After you visit microsoft site for the DRM update for IPX or what it is which will give you version 11.0.6XXX.XXXX :mad:) will no longer work. If you have the old 11.0.5XXX.XXXX version you will be fine, but make sure you have automatic updates off for WMP11 turned off - you are one of the lucky ones. Other than that the rest of us will have to wait for the next new version of FU4VM to come out, if there is a possibility of it happening.

Or you can downgrade to WMP 10. It worked for me.

I had WMP 11 with all the updates, and I was able to uninstall it and WMP Runtime. I installed WMP 10.0.0.3646, and FU4WM worked again. I then installed all the updates for WMP 10 and it still works.

I had WMP 11 with all the updates, and I was able to uninstall it and WMP Runtime. I installed WMP 10.0.0.3646, and FU4WM worked again. I then installed all the updates for WMP 10 and it still works.

Have you tried it with in last couple of days?
