Doesn't work for anyone who still has WMP 10.......maybe it wasn't supposed to....monkey boy is WAYY over my head....:stupid:

10th November 2006, 05:21
Yeah, I don't think it was supposed to. But it works here with WMP11 final, while fu4wm 1.3 regular didn't. (Decoding works in both, but recovering keys only in the 1.3fix)

picree

So does FU4WM abandon WMP10? I wasn't upgrading WMP because I didn't want the hassles...should I go to WMP11? Are there any additional DRM restrictions?

The AES key displayed in new key extraction
For the v11 individualization, v2ksndv.bla (or v2ks###.bla) is now an XML file. There are two tags of particular interest, the first 40 bytes of "c:PKCert" is the public key for ECC encryption and the "Keys" which stores all the secondary keys.

Each time you re-individualize, the DLL sends "escrowed" key information to Microsoft's servers which decrypts it and re-encrypts it inside this secondary key table. These are all the keys for previous individualizations.

The <Keys> tag is encrypted with AES in Counter mode using the displayed key. To decrypt, create a 16-byte BIG-ENDIAN counter (that is, 16 bytes of 0, next would be 15-bytes of 0's and one 1 byte, and so forth). Encrypt that with the AES key. XOR the output with the next 16-bytes from the tag.

Once decrypted, the Keys tag holds a XML document which in turn has both the old ECC keys (which v1.3 happily extracts for you), and some RSA keys - the RSA keys are apparently new for v11, and I don't know what they're for.

By the way, if one looks at the individualization process in Wireshark, it's conceivable that future individualizations can be handled with the assistence of Microsoft's own servers.

Looks like the RSA keys are whats different in WMP11 and why a patch was needed

OK, but I don't think I'm alone in saying that FU4WM is no longer able to clean WMP10 DRM material....

Is there a new step I'm missing when using FU4WM with WMP10? I keep getting the "requires a different key" message.:(

If nobody want's to post or discuss the solution here I understand. I have other more direct ways to remove DRM from the music I own. I just find this a novelty.

Don't ask me to explain please...:search:

Just use FairUse4WM 1.3 without the fix. its working with WMP10 flawlessly.

FaireUse4WM 1.3 Fix is working with my WMP11 without any problems :) nice work!

picree
11th November 2006, 12:55
We'll...not for me. As I said I keep getting a message during decrypt that says it "requires a different key" then it fails to decrypt. Can someone point me to instructions on how to repair the FU4WM and WMP10 handshake or link or whatever? How do I get FU4WM to look for a new set of keys?

EDIT: NEVERMIND, I figured out how to force FU4WM 1.3 to recover a new set of keys..........:stupid: It now works with WMP10..

Everything was working fine for me, but not I keep getting the message that the files "do not appear to be licensed to me". I have tried both 1.3 and the fixed 1.3. I am running WMP11.

It all worked flawlessly a couple weeks ago, now some of my files throw that message. Would it have something to do with the fact that some of the files were downloaded using my Urge account, and some were from my wife's? Or is it just from WMP being upgraded? I have tried re-getting the keys, still the same message.

Any ideas?

Thanks.

Hey,

My fairuse4wm 1.3 was working fine on Windows Media Player 11 final, (non-fix). But i thought it wasn't (duh should have checked), so i recovered keys using fix. Now both non-fix and fix won't decrypt files, even much older DRM files due to an "unrecognisable DRM header". I know these files can be unDRMed because i have done it before.

Anyone can offer some help? I would be forever thankful. I want to transfer the music I OWN, to my Zune when it comes.

EDIT: The same files will unDRM correctly on another machine. To be clear NOTHING will unDRM on the Media Player 11 machine.

I had a simmilar problem recently and had to get my content provider to contact thier DRM clearance service to reset my licneces it took about two weeks and I know the right people to contact when there's a problem including the developers and CEO of the service and the contacts at the DRM service .

So I feel sorry for anyone who has to deal with regular customer service .

After that experience I made sure I unDRMed all of my content so it wont happen again :P...

"Indiv01.key" 11.0.6000.6324

That looks like a higher version number than before doesn't it? I guess it means we'll have to wait and see if viodentia or monkey boy or someone can make FU4WM work with the new version.

My IndivBox.key file is v11.0.5497.6285. This update was forced on me on both WMP10 and 11. Can't play my videos without the update.

Yep, looks like I'm going to have to wait until FU or UuDRM is updated.

Engadget posted a nice summary of the legal action (http://www.engadget.com/2006/11/13/microsofts-war-waged-with-fairuse4wm/) currently ongoing against "John Does 1-10 a.k.a. viodentia". Some parts of particular interest:

If Microsoft is unable to procure useful information from Google or Yahoo!, or if they run into a dead end at the ISP level, it will need to find some other means of identifying Viodentia. To expand the scope of its search, Microsoft would need to seek and receive further permission from the court. The present order gives Microsoft only 120 days to discover Viodentia's identity. Although Microsoft can seek a time extension, if it cannot name an actual person in its suit before Judge Coughenour's patience wears out, the case will likely be thrown out.

The critical importance of the subpoena power to Microsoft's case against Viodentia explains the otherwise-mysterious question of why Microsoft has filed a suit for copyright infringement rather than for circumvention of DRM. The subpoena power is a little-noticed feature that the DMCA added to copyright law. In the old days, ISPs often refused to disclose the identities of their users. Then along came the DMCA's 17 U.S.C. 512(h)(1), which enables a content owner to subpoena an ISP and demand user identities. This is crucial because ultimately, it is the only way to maintain a lawsuit and force a user like Viodentia to stop. But here's the problem: 512(h)(1) applies only to copyright violation and not to DRM circumvention. If it were only a matter of hacking WM, Microsoft would not be able to use a subpoena to identify Viodentia. Therefore, Microsoft must claim copyright infringement, whether or not that actually is the case.

So now we know why they are pursuing a patently ridiculous copyright infringement claim, it's obviously not because they actually believe any code was stolen, it's just so they can use the subpoena power.

So what do you think they shoudl do? Sit back and let the masses get free music from yahoo, napster and the other music-to-go services? I know many people who used this program and signed up for a 2 week trial and downloaded tons of music then removed the DRM. I am sure Viodelda works for MS but what do i know.

I just signed into napster and had to install an update. Not sure what it was but I will see if this program still works.

Then why would you buy a Zune knowing it only works with Zune Service? That's like buying an Ipod to use with Rhapsody-to-go.

You know Zune is not a very good Mp3 player right? The reviews for it suck and there are much better players on the market. If you want a good MP3 player I suggest you get a creative player as it has the best sound quality and media support plus the screen is nice (much better than an Ipod). Plays Divx, Xvid, WMv, WMA, Mpeg, AVi etc. http://www.creative.com/products/product.asp?category=213&subcategory=214&product=14331

Like I mentioned earlier, 11.0.6000.6324 is a higher version number than before which means Microsoft have updated the IBX again. So you'll just have to wait and see if viodentia or monkey boy or somebody will come out with a new version.

I think it will only work for DRM windows media files such as wma. You can try it on these ebooks and see what happens, but I doubt if it will work. Who knows, it might.

I hope Monkeyboy or someone else can fix the new IBX version soon! (*crosses fingers*)

Ok first, download a sample movie clip at ezdrm.com and see if you can successfully decrypt that with fairusew4m 1.3 or the 1.3fix. If you can, then what I suggest is you play your drm protected movie, verify that it can play and work.

After that, use 1.3 or 1.3fix to try to get a license from that file and see if you can decrypt it. Hopefully that will work, at least that is what I have had experience with before.

Curious, where are you getting a drm protected movie from?

Re: One time licenses

You are very likely running into a "one play" license. FairUse4WM only works if you have a license and doesn't have the ability (... yet ... ) to ask the servers for a new license.

The solution to this is let FairUse4WM use the license instead of Media Player - by acquiring but not playing the file.
- Set your media player to ALWAYS PROMPT before acquiring a license. You should have this as your common setting anyway, because it will save you from folks using the DRM URL to deliver IE Exploits.
- Open the file in Media Player and acquire the license, but DON'T click play
- While the dialog is open you should be able to use FairUse4WM on that file. You can also exit Media Player (Click close) and collect licenses for multiple files.

IBX Version 11.0.6000.6324 isn't supported yet

Basically, this is the key to the matter. If you have this IBX version you can't use any version of FairUse4WM, none of them will work. You have to hope that viodentia will come out of hiding, or that monkey boy or someone else will figure out a patch.

Are you converting the files to MP3 or something? Because WMA/WMV doesn't use the ID3 standard, it uses its own proprietary method for storing artist and track data and stuff. FairUse4WM doesn't remove it as far as I'm aware but if you convert to MP3 afterwards you'll probably lose the info.

You're good.... That's exactly what I am doing. I am using the Imtoo WMA MP3 converter. Do you know of any other program that will do the conversion AND take the proprietary tags into the MP3 ID3 tags??

Many thanks again.
