sonic: That doesnt really help me. I know I can go out and buy something thats drm compatible. I dont want to pay alot of money I dont have, for a device I dont want to fiddle with in the car and get into an accident rigging it to work. My cd player works great, and thats how I intend to use it.

If I wanted to go spend more money to do the same task I would do it and wouldnt be here asking the question I did...I mean I dont wanna come off like a jerk but its not helpful to my question.

@tastyratz - I am not sure what level of service you have paid for - but it is clear that you do own own the music. Sonicbox's comment is pertinent - if you owned the music, you could burn it easily.

The subscription service is DRM'ed for a reason - you don't own the content. You simply may download it and play it on your PC (see their FAQ).

As such, removing DRM from the subscription content is against rule 6.

Let's stop it here, please.

4dude, if you purchase content from any of the services there is no need to "use a sound recorder and make a basic copy,then transfer it to CD.." -- you can burn audio CDs directly. (FYI: I agree DRM is stupid for purchased content. Why do it, when you can burn a DRM-free Audio CD with it?)I agree i guess my friend........

Hi. Its been such a long time since we heard anything from Viodenta. I hope that great man is safe. I have an amazing problem which I am not been able to solve through any measures.
I downloaded a licensed wmv video from a subscribed website. I am using WMP10 and applied all the security patches. Now whenever I give it the username and password to install the license on my system, it gives an 'Internet Explorer Script Error', which says that a script error has occured and I should contact Microsoft support to solve the issue. I have upgraded my hardware and before the upgrade everything was working just fine with the licensed DRM stuff. Now this script error pops up every time the license installs itself and it never lets me PLAY the file at all.
Can someone tell me what sort of componant I am missing? Is it a common fault. Also, I ran WMP11 to solve the issue but the same happend in it so I rolled back. I have installed all the required updates to solve the said matter but to no avail. That Script error comes again and again and I am really frustrated.
Can someone please help me to solve the issue.

Blutach, you never cease to amaze me at your forum browsing abilities. It seems that everyday now you have to constantly remind people of forum board rules, in particular number 6 a lot of times...lol.

First time poster, long time form reader. I never had to ask for any questions due to the amount of questions people flood you with. Just need to browse a little and read. Any how, I downloaded the 1.3fix and I got a different error and I thought I would like to share it and see if someone could come up with a reason or a fix.

I can get 1.3fix to work just fine, no problems. Then I can play the file back. But if I close the file it asks for a license again. Also, if I try to undrm the file again I'm told:

[NoDRM]-SongTitle.mp3 already exists.

But.. there is no such file in my folder. Does 1.3fix save the files someplace else or am I losing my mind? I just want to continue to playback the file.

Greetings. When you use the fairuse program, there is a screen where it asks you where you want to deposit your drm free music. Actually, its more like a dropdown box.

For me, I just tell the program to save the NODRM music files in the same directory as the DRM file. Afterwards, I just go into the respective directory and erase the original files and keep the NODRM file.

I hope that helps.

Hello, I have yet to locate the "FairUse 4WM Commander"

I have FairUse 4WM and I greatly enjoy it, however in some of the much earlier posts there are mentions of, and if I'm not mistaken even a screen shot of it in action... If anyone knows about this "Commander" and where to find it, I would appreciate your help.

I get no such screen unfortunately. Do you receive this all the time or only the first time you load up the application? Do you also get this screen with the 1.3fix version? I'm using that with WMP11 Beta 2.

I am aware of the search feature and I had tried it with no results and all I was able to come up with was a few instances that it was mentioned... with no explanation as to where or how to get it. But thx anyways

pplsfrntofjudea, Like You, I did not download the Commander when I first saw the link posted, then later I tried to search for it using the search function here but to no avail. I had to go back message by message to locate it. It appears that the reason we could not find it using the search function here is that the word "commander" does not appear in the particular post that contains the download link. The url for the download does contain the word, but the link is truncated on the post and therefore a search will not find it.

The Commander is great! Thanks to users UserMan and VivaFairUse4WM for Your efforts in creating and updating it!!!

And, Yes the commander is pretty handy. I second that thanks to UserMan & VivaFairUse4WM. :)

I thought I would start up a dedicated support area for FairUse4WM on my site with what I have found to be a solution to get FairUse4WM working properly. Please help me out with the instructions and notify me if there is anything else that should be included, such as notices, ect...

I've speant a lot of time figuring this out and typing up those instructions, so do not post them anywhere else.

Please take a look http://www.xarus.net/index.php?act=fair_use_4_wm. Click on Instructions if you want to know how to get it working. If it doesn't work, I'll try to help you get it working in the support forum, but I think this should work for everyone. Enjoy :)

OH yea I'm new. hehe Ok so here's my error when I use FairUse4WM "...does not appear to be licensed to you" These are the files I downloaded from Zune Marketplace. I think I read somewhere I can't remove the DRM from Zune files. How will I ever back them up?

From what I understand, you can't really right now. There is no viable way that I know of.For now, just burn the purchased tracks to Audio CD. Now you have a physical (unprotected) backup of the audio content.

You can also re-download any purchased song anytime you want (unlike iTunes' Music Store), so there probably isn't much of a need to "backup."

I know what you are refering to, as I myself have a Zune. I purchased a few songs, only to find it was pointless.

The problem with the Zune software, is that it runs a program in the background as soon as the computer boots. You can disable it and delete the drm folder if you move fast enough, but when you open up the Zune software, it reinstalls the latest IBX... it was a pain to figure out that that was causing the problem with my IBX version...

I would recommend you find another service provider... as because Zune is a Microsoft Product, it will always be updated as it is their "example."

It's interesting... I recently decided to upgrade to WMP 11 because I was having some difficulties with the version of WMP I had. Strange enough, it upgraded to version 11.0.5721.5145. So FairUse4WM still works. I upgraded with the downloadable from Microsoft's website.

Microsft has begun to crack down on this and is trying every way to make it no longer work. They found my site about 8 hours after I released my instructions, and they had it shut down completly until I reuploaded everything minus the infringing files...

I think they are trying to get people to upgrade just out of annoyance...

I updated the download links to get the files on my site if anyone is wondering... I will try to always keep an up to date link in there so everyone can enjoy :)

I have a wmv file with some kind of DRM I'm not used to: every time I try to play it, WMP 11 says a license needs to be acquired, then I click OK and a "Media usage rights acquisition" dialog pops up, loading some webpage. Once the page loads, the Play button becomes enabled and the file plays normally. However, it makes me do this EVERY time I try to play the file... WTF? That file is important to me and I don't want to rely for playing it on the availability of some website that may go offline at any time. I can't even read the goddamn site as it's in Chinese, but I'd gladly pay for an un-DRMed version of this video. So, how do I deal with this?

Of course I own it. Did you even read the description in my post? I have permission to play it. The problem is that it wants to connect to that site every time I play it, though after that it plays fine -- no restrictions. Indeed, the DRM was tacked on by someone distributing the file which originally was not DRMed (because the main video is in English with Americans in it, with some Chinese advertisement junk added to the beginning of the video, same as the website it connects to to get a licence). But sine I've not tracked down the original, I'm stuck with this version modified by some tool trying to get more website hits.

I just purchased a song from Napster, and I cannot get the file to be unprotected. I've tried using the "recover keys" in FairUse, but the program doesn't show up any keys... then I actually hit the "recover keys" button and it says "click start to begin", so I do and I get this error "IBX Version 11.0.6000.6324 isn't supported yet." What does this mean? Does this mean I cannot undrm the file?

Quince - permission to play and ownership are 2 different things. Plus you can lose the attitude. Sorry to hear you now have a file that has DRM. If you search, you'll find WMP11 is not the easiest to UnDRM from.

I have purchased wmv restricted files that required license, which I entered and they started running fine. However, when I tried to UnDRM them using the FairUse4WM program, I did not have much luck. The steps I followed are:

1. I Installed FairUse4WM 1.3 without any problems.
2. I opened FairUse4WM and clicked the “Recover Key” button (It says 0 Keys loaded”
3. I got the DrmClien.DLL has version 9.0. etc message, and when I pressed okay it went back to the first dialog box which says 0 keys loaded, and the only the Cancel button was still enabled (Exactlythe same window as in step 2).

As you can tell I am using WM 9, which should be okay. Moreover, my computer is running under Windows XP.

Next, upon getting help from an expert, I tried to individualize the windows player, and tried again. But now:

1. When pressing the Recover Key button, I got the following ,message: "Attempting to recover DRMv1 keys.....DrmClien.DLL has version 9.0.0.3250. Upon pressing Ok, I get
2. Preparing to launch Media Player ... Indivbox.key has version 10.0.0.3646.... When I press the OK button, I get
3. "Windows Error 80030002 while finding KID in V9 store".

It asks me to retry/cancel, but if I retry I go back to step 1 again.

I also got the following advise from the expert:
"Note that some WM installations will have multiple ECC key-pairs, so you will likely have to "Extract Keys" using multiple licensed files. If you find a file that doesn't convert, try extracting keys wth it. Once your whole set of keys is extracted, you will no longer need to run WM per file"
Some media files (wma/wmv) have a same KID and use a same SID. For example :

<KID>September Video</KID>
<SID>xxxxxxxxxxyyyyyyy</SID>

Above key pair valid for all media you download for september video.(just an example)

But maybe provider change/update the SID for another files that use the same KID, but with different SID as below

<KID>September Video</KID>
<SID>yyyyyyyyzzzzzzzzz</SID>

To solve the problem, try to recover key again and convert the file ALONE not multiple or batch. Indeed, I have several files (about 100) that are proteected under the same license key.

So Itried to perform the following steps on a single file:

- Set Windows Media player (WMP) to prompt on license acquisition
- Open the file, and let WMP acquire the license
- Do NOT click "Play", leave the WMP license window open
- While the window is open, use FairUse4WM on the file

but I got the messages I detailed earlier ("Windows error 80030002 while finding KID in V9 store").

So my question is WHAT ARE THE STEPS AND HOW TO EXTRACT THE KEYS??? When I only have one key!!!

I don't mind going back to WMP11 beta, or whatever older version I need. My question is, I don't know the procedure for that type of DRM. FairUse4WM says that "At least one file with an active license is necessary." I don't even know what that means. Is a file that every time checks for a license when it's played and then loses it one with an active license or not? How do I do it in this case? If it retreives a license every time it's played, I'm assuming it goes away every time I close WMP. Then how can FairUse4WM extract it then if WMP is not still playing the file (yet it says WMP must be closed)?

Im running windows vista x64 ultimate, using WMP11

Installed FairUse4Wm just fine but when i click on it it asks me to recover keys, i click on "recover keys" and it says that
"IBX components do not appear to be present." Then i click OK. Right after that, another thing pops up saying "FairUse4WM will use a WM-Installed Dll to determine system specific information. No drmclien.dll found in path." I click ok again and another window opens saying " unhandled situation -25100 while Getting DRMv1 Private Key."

I dont know much about computers so any help would be much appreciated.

Thanks DanJ. I followed your advice, but WMP 10 when runs gives the following message:
"A security update is required to play this file. Do you want to download this upgrade?"

To which I replied NO. But then I got the following message from FU4WM
"Unhandled situation -9008 while Creating Windows Media instance"
What to do next?

Vista is not supported with FairUse4WM. That's the major reason why I haven't upgraded yet.

Hello!
Sorry for my English, its not the best but i try to write as well...

a few days ago fu2wm 1.3 fix worked without any problems for me (windows xp, windows media player 11 final). but since i changed my napster account i get the following message, when the programm try to load the new keys:

Fu4wm also dont crack the wma-files anymore.

I dont know why it isnt working now - it was working ok with the new media player 11 before. I hope you can help me :)
