JDobbs well after about 15 backups I found an other Hiccup, while watching the extra’s after about a minute Quentin Tarantino is badly lip syncing (1 sec.), just before it happens you can see the movie speeds up ~0.1 sec then after a while (next cell?) it’s ok again. (Power DVD)
Made a backup with RB 30, 31 and they were OK then 45,44, 42, 38, 35 they showed the lip sync
I looked at the history and think it happened here:
Apr 10th, 2004 (v0.33) there were many changes, I don’t have any versions between 31-35 can’t check it.
I took a look in the VTS_02_0.IFO
Ifoedit (http://img10.imageshack.us/img10/5691/ifoed.jpg)
It looks like 27 cells
Version 31 creates 27 AVS files
And
Version 45 creates 32 AVS files ?:confused:
The sync problem happens in this or after this cell
Version 31
File: V02000100001002.AVS

# AVS File Created by DVD Rebuilder
# VOBID:01, CELLID:02

mpeg2source("D:\DVDS\RES\D2VAVS\V02A.D2V")
trim(812,2424)
ConvertToYUY2(interlaced=true)
This is what happens in Version 45 (and probably the rest)

DVD-RB 0.4x seems to have a problem with reading or "rebuilding" the correct subtitle timecodes.
After rebuilding the second disc of "LOTR - The Two Towers - SEE" PAL RC2 I noticed that the
forced subtitles are being displayed with a small delay compared to the original DVD. You can also
see that there is a small difference between what the character just says and the time the subtitle
is displayed.
I used VobSub to compare the timecodes of the original DVD and the backup done with DVD-RB.
The difference between each timecode of the original and the backup is +80ms.
Following are some examples of the original and the backup subtitle timecodes read out with VobSub:

hello, i would like to post a new bug:
DVD-RB 0.45
I backuped The Mummy
It has 2 VTS of extras (about 1.5 GB) and i choosed half D1 resolution+half bitrate on them.
the result was a 4.488.784.456 bytes DVD.
Can that be so much undersized?
Did anyone noticed my last post about "no VTS flags" in the "half D1 resolution menu" when loading a saved project?
THANX for your patience... :)

Just finished terminator 2 (region 2) without the DTS sound track and now it finishes without any problems. Can the DTS sound track cause the buffer overflow error???

OK, I unchecked the Half-D1 Half Space option, deleted all the work files and hit Transcode again. Everything went well, but I cannot burn the result. I can play it from the hard drive, but when I try to burn it (Nero 6.3.0) I get the following:
DVD-Video files reallocation started.
File'VTS_02_0.VOB' is not referenced and should not be present
DVD-Video files reallocation failed.
Does anyone have a suggestion?
I have not seen anyone report something like this.

Try deleting the file VTS_02_0.VOB (and do a "Get VTS Sectors" in Ifoedit, to be safe).
Anyway, you could burn with no problem even with that file. Test on a RW.

And don't use Nero, it's bad for DVD
That's not true. Nero 6.3.0.0+ works FINE for DVD. I've done over 100 DVD backups burned with Nero and they ALL work as they should.

Check the bitrate of this particular segment, if it's under 1000bps, put 1500bps, reencode, then rebuild. It always worked for me. (if the cell can be at 1500bps without increasing too much the space...)

PAL or NTSC? I backed this up with the same using CCE SP 2.50, DVD Decryptor file mode, NTSC R1. No problems at all.

@sapstar
I have run into that using ECL Optimiser, lowered the bitrate on extras to below 1000 and CCE hangs during the encode. It will hange forever until it is cancelled. Upped the BR to 1200 and it went fine. Does CCE not handle BR's below 1000 well?

@lab-one
NTSC R1.
@SAPSTAR
Here's what the .ecl says:
vbr_brate_avg=879
vbr_brate_min=0
vbr_brate_max=9000
So I can't very well put the min at 1500. Hmm.
But then I'm looking at the previous VTS (9), and I see:
vbr_brate_avg=1123
vbr_brate_min=0
vbr_brate_max=9000
And that worked fine.
I have "Half-D1 and Half Space For Extras" checked.

@daxab
I did not use the half d1 option. However, CCE hung on VTS_09 when I had it under 1000 BR. When I redid it above 1000 BR, it worked fine.

Ok, I re-encoded the troublesome cell with a new minimum (100 instead of 0). This got rid of the first error. Now I have a new interesting failure, apparently in a later cell in the same VOB:
"Error in UpdateIFO: Shouldn't happen - contact developer."
The log says:
- Rebuilding segment 7 VOBID:1 CELLID:8
- Updating information in NAVPACKS...
jdobbs
30th April 2004, 22:52
I need a general concensus on this... should I set the average bitrate to something above 1000? Just a warning -- if you are planning to tell me to set the minimum bitrate above 1000 it would be a waste of breath...
Should it be set only for Half-D1 or all encodings?
The reason I hesitate on this is that I have been encoding with a minimum bitrate of 0 since I got my first copy of CCE back in 2001 and I've never had it fail due to a low bitrate... That includes DVD material, half-d1 material, SVCD material, and even VCD... my instinct is telling me there is something else wrong here.
I do have an open mind, though.
I am trying to get past the "Error in UpdateIFO: Shouldn't happen - contact developer." error by reencoding with a different minimum bitrate -- and it seems to help, but then triggers another problem.
I reencoded the cell where the problem was (vob 10/cell 1), but then a new failure appeared in a later cell in the same VOB (as noted previously). Reading the log, it appears that the reason the "Error in UpdateIFO" happens is because, the first cell is now skipped -- it starts with segment 1/vob 10/cell 2 instead of segment 0/vob 10/cell 1.

Yes it works, however you are way more liekly to have issues with it later that's all. Nero does funky stuff regarding dvd structure.
Update: I re-encoded the first cell, the one that originally caused the Run-time error 9. This time, instead of a minimum of 100, I used a minimum of 500.
The rebuild finished!
I'm not 100% sure that there isn't something else going on, because while trying to make this work I re-encoded every other cell in the VOB as well. But this seems to be what made the difference.

I think it is very possible that this whole bitrate chase might be a snipe hunt. So far I hear it being blamed for "this shouldn't happen" error -- which can only happen when someone is messing with the source files between passes. I here it is causing '9' errors, which aren't really related at all to the bitrate (unless the output is 100% bad -- which would be easy to recognize as the .M2V files wouldn't play either).

I think it is very possible that this whole bitrate chase might be a snipe hunt.Right. One possibility is that when the person re-encodes, the reason it helps is because they overwrite a bogus .mpv file with a good one -- and that the minimum bitrate has nothing to do with it.

Should be done tomorrow AM. If I run into the same problem again, I'll try viewing the .mpv file in Windows Media Player with min=0, min=100, and min=500, and see if there is any difference.

I think you may be right there. I've only encountered #9 once and all I did was re-encode the segment causing the error and rebuild (and it worked). I didn't change anything from previous encode, just copied the job out of the rebuilder.ECL and pasted into item.ecl, then encoded the job manually with CCE.

I have error 9 in 1 DVD using Rejig engine.
If I use the original cell (renaming it from MPV to M2V) I get an
"Error in UpdateIFO: Shouldn't happen - contact developer."
(Why, that's the original structure???)
If I reencode the cell with CCE the rebuild finish without problem.
Anyway, both rejigged cell and original cell plays with no problem in Windows Media Player.

The '9' error on REBUILD that seemed to be related to bitrate was found and fixed and will be posted in Version 0.46. It was caused by a group of reference frames that all coexisted in the same output sector... CCE was at no fault whatsoever -- my code was checking against an incorrect index value.

# Vob/Cell ID: 1, 2 (PTS: 41680) I agree this could be a problem -- but not necessarily. DVD-RB reauthors from scratch... so the timestamp doesn't always match (e.g. if the video/audio streams were shifted a few milliseconds the subpicture would be also). That typically doesn't happen, but I have seen more than one original DVD whose timecodes were incorrect (I know that sounds strange - but I went in and manually calculated what they should be) that I've had to insert code in DVD-RB to find and correct.

I have Half-D1 manually selected on some VOBs. On those VOBs, the audio sync is way off: It starts out fine, and over the course of the chapter, drifts worse and worse. Appears to resync at the next cell. It's very obvious since the VOB is an extra with a guy talking.
The main movie appears to be in generally good sync, but I did notice one or two minor spots, so it might not be related to Half-D1. But these might have also been sync problems in the original movie.

J, as expected "IJob" finished fine using 1/2-1/2. Thanks much for dealing with that pesky '9'. Since you now have this source, I wonder if you could check the 'driving school' extra, and the following extra about minis. Using powerDVD, I have audio sync errors in both, although the second will come back into sync after a scene change at some stage.
/Add: Also out of sync on standalone. As I simply used the original disk in ISO form and hit "transcode", you should be able to recreate.
Gee, after "IJob" you will need to drink a bottle of "Good Key-an-ti", slurp, slurp, slurp.

@JDobbs
If you want to test a DVD where the "Buffer overflow #0004 " still shows up, try the NTSC version of one of the Babylon 5 season 4 discs.
Have tried these both original + one version, where I have "hidden" PGC 1 in the first VTS set with DVD Remake, ( PGC 1 corresponds with the play button, so all vob/cell id´s here are reused later for the individual episodes).
I have backed it up sucessfully with the "Big Three", (after using DVD ReMake)
The last version I tried it with was 0.45, and it almost finished writing the first big VOB, it get quite a bit furthe into the rebuild process than the earlier versions.
(If you don´t own the Babylon 5 series, what are you waiting for ? anybody who likes SciFi need to own this :D :D )

I have an audio sync problem on just chapter 11 of this DVD. All the other chapters are flawless. I noticed the problem when using InterVideo WinDVD 5 (newest updated version), and am playing the movie off my hard drive. When I play chapter 11 from the original directory that I dumped it to, it plays perfectly. Any clues?
I haven't touched the directory after running the one click, so if you need any info from there, let me know.

Some stutter. It Happens in the two movies that I encode using these version of DVD-RB and only in some chapters. If I jump to the next chapter and then rewind back to the previous chapter and press play , when the movie reach the chapter from were I rewind back its begins to stutter.
If I jump from chapter to chapter it plays fine without stutter. Normal play don't show any stutter its seems to happen only when I use rewind.
I tested a movie that I make with DVD-RB v0.44 and don't have this problem. I will try to do other movie with both versions and see what happen.
I tried versions .44, .45 .46 with different movies and it seems that the problem only happens in the same two movies House of Sand and Fog and Hounted Mansion. It happens only in some chapters.

I posted a similar problem right after your first sync post here (http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?s=&postid=483776&highlight=Reservoir+Dogs#post483776)
Do you have a older version of RB (below 0.33) to check if that one works ?
And if it works, could you count the number of avs files created by the 2 versions ?
Thx

I don't keep any of the older versions when I grab the new ones. I probably will start doing so however. I can't remember exactly which version it stopped at, but I had bad stuttering problems with some early .3x versions. I could rerun it through whatever version you wan tme to if you send it to me.

Great job on ver.46 Fixed several run time errors for me.
Its all good....:)
Quenc 050 doesn't seem to like DVD-RB 046. The prepare goes fine but when encoding it just does all the segments in a few seconds and Quenc doesn't appear. It finishes at 100%.
I tried Quenc 049 and it worked as expected.

That ain't good. I guess I'll need to check that tonight. My guess would be that the libavcodec.dll file (that is now separated from the EXE) is not being found.

I posted a similar problem right after your first sync post here
Do you have a older version of RB (below 0.33) to check if that one works ?
And if it works, could you count the number of avs files created by the 2 versions ?
Thx
Both version .30 and .46 created 20 .avs files.

NTSC, R1, what is pre-processing?

Pre-processing...removing parts of the DVD with an app such as DVDShrink. I backed-up the same movie without any problems.
