nope:

CBR = 2pass
VBR = 2pass
CQ = 1pass

It's the best and recommended settings for file2file encoding. RealAnime boost 2-pass speed, so encoding will finish up to 30% faster then other GUIs.

Hi, just discovered this program a few days ago, it's great, I almost can't believe it, on some avi with lots of noise, it actually looks BETTER after encoding @ 450kbps.

Now some questions :

1) How do we know which audio codec is used ? is it AAC for all bitrates/modes ?

2) Hopeless question : would you add mp3 audio support ? :D I'm watching most of my anime on a xbox, and the current media player doesn't seem to support the sound - only video - with RMVB container ;) MKV doesn't even show anything. (OGG support should also work, but I don't know the limitations of the RMVB container)

Thanks, and sorry if the second question is annoying, forget it :devil:

Hi

Yes, RV10 can show better soem encodes by removing hard-to-encode artefacts :D. About audio codec, in the producer window, you can see what codec is used. By default, 1.81 is using HE-AAC. About MP3, don't even think about it :devil: :)

@Sirber:

I googled a bit:

Good operating systems, like Linux, NT and OS/2 have a so-called "idle loop" - a loop that's always executed when the CPU has nothing to do. This loop consists of halt (HLT) instructions.

It's from here (http://www.heatsink-guide.com/cpuidle.htm).
So I guess that at least Windows NT 4, Windows 2000 and Windows XP issue a HLT instruction to the CPU. Well, and the others? I guess they don't fall into the category of 'modern OS'...

tiki4

Sirber
28th January 2004, 18:19
Why then when I start CPUIdle, my CPU fan goes from 3500 RPM to 2000? :D

tiki4
28th January 2004, 18:33
From the CPUIdle homepage (http://www.cpuidle.de) I got some more information. It seems, that it depends heavily about BIOS/chipset/processor combo if Windows NT-based OS's issue HLT or not.

Furthermore it seems that some non-Intel chipsets require special programming to be able to use HLT at all. The author of CPUIdle says that Windows does not do this programming. So I conclude that even on Windows 2000/XP maybe useful and should not do any harm, even if Windows uses HLT.

I'm running a P4 on an Intel chipset for two weeks now, so I guess I will download CPUIdle and test myself...

So, sorry, I was a little mis-informed in the first place. Now, can you say in which respect you try to do that better in your app than CPUIdle?

Regards,

tiki4

P.S.: I bought the P4 in the first place, because my AthlonXP has become too slow for RV encoding :D

Sirber
28th January 2004, 18:38
on all my system HLT aren't used, so I need CPUIdle :), but I only need it while I'm not encoding, that's why I'll do my own plugin to do that in assembly :D

Is there a reason why anytime I use RealAnime to convert an AVI to RMVB or RM, RP10 complains to me that it doesn't have the right codecs to play this file? Happened in both 1.70RC2 and 1.81

Also, why is it that anytime I try to convert an OGM Helix Producer decides to crash and die before even analyzing the file? I have a version of xvid and oggds installed.

Lagoon
28th January 2004, 18:54
Just checked the producer window, it says Audio codec : racp

Is that AAC ? sounds more like cook for me...

How do you change the audio codec used ? Thanks ;)

I wanna try all possibility for my xbox :D

RealAnime 1.70+ encode to HE-AAC, and RP10 can't decode it due to a small bug. Use MPC and CoreAAC. About OGM, check "Use AVISynth".

I wanna try all possibility for my xbox :D codec "racp" is HE-AAC. You can't change the audio codec (I.E., use cook instead of HE-AAC at 64kbps). I use the best codec avalible for the asked bitrate.

So, the assumption is that RP10 will be able to decode these in the future? :)

What about providing an option for people to encode to RA8 or RA9, or whatever it is that the realproducer package ends up using?

Sirber
28th January 2004, 19:42
yep, next update.

about the option, RealAnime is too limited in "space", so I use the best one for the given bitrate. Surreal UI will be more "free" to choose what you want.

Lagoon

Woo it works fine with cook audio :D only 44kbps though :(

Doesn't sound too bad tho, I can hardly tell any difference from the original.

Sirber
28th January 2004, 23:23
I can hear the difference between cook and HE-AAC easily (for animes). HE-AAC is much clsoer to the source than cook :)

Lagoon
28th January 2004, 23:28
Well, I prefer a little bit worse sound but being able to watch it on TV with max quality on the xbox :D

Too bad there's no 64 or 80kbps cook ;)

Sirber
28th January 2004, 23:50
If you REALLY need cook, I can give you alink of RealAnime 1.50, which use cook by default.

Lagoon
29th January 2004, 00:16
Would be nice, does 1.50 have some letdown tho ? like worse video quality ? :)

Sirber
29th January 2004, 00:33
RealAnime 1.50 is RV9-EHQ, with cook.

Lagoon
29th January 2004, 01:06
I'd appreciate it then :) Thanks a lot.

Sirber
29th January 2004, 01:25
The lastest RV9 was 1.60 IIRC.

HLT will be removed as wanted feature, since it's hell to implement :(

Adding a "log" window, and removed all msgbox.

Hi

I'm trying to get some errors code to manage them better. If you get errors codes that are not posted here, please post them! Thanks!!! :D

<0: [X] was pressed and producer is closing
1: CTRL + C in first pass
128: AVISynth or HE-AAC related

[edit]

Here's a shot of RealAnime 1.90:

"Max bitrate is hardcoded to be 5x the average bitrate. Because of this, you need to have a SSE+3DNOW CPU or else you'll get 1x . Karl recommended 5x to have "constant quality" and help high motion scenes."

what do you mean by: or else you'll get "1x"? you mean no max bitrate if cpu no sse+3dnow, or the same speed with the source?

btw, do you mind allow us to choose more options? I don't know about writing program, is it difficult and troublesome? e.g. max bitrate, one or two pass vbr/cbr, which audio codec to use, etc. I guess everyone has his own different preference (e.g. some may consider speed as an important factor too, so if quality don't drop too much, I would like lower max bitrate and one pass vbr and cook) even though there is one best and recommended setting.

Sirber
29th January 2004, 03:52
the "1x" thing was a joke.

I'm thinking about adding audio codec choice in the "bitrate" dropdown menu. About more options, like Max Bitrate and 1/2 pass, I don,t have room for them. I might also have to remove max Keyframe if more options comes out... :(

h9903209
29th January 2004, 04:08
don't have room? sorry don't quite understand what's that mean?

really like your program, so convenient, I guess most users really want more options... please... ^^

also, when try convert ogm, all I need to do is check avisynth? anything else? because seems still fail, it says "errors detected, producer returned 1" (just find out that this happen when filename contains chinese character)

Sirber
29th January 2004, 13:53
your file must be in US-ASCII with no "&". RealAnime UI is kinda small, so I don't have enough space for all options.

Sirber...

What is the latest version available of your program please?

Also, do you have any information about overhead with the various codec's, so that it can be used to determine final file size.

Thanks

Data

Sirber
29th January 2004, 16:48
Read the first thread :)

About the overhead, I really don't know and RealAnime don't go for "X MB".

datascab
29th January 2004, 16:53
I know.... you input required overall avg. bitrate, which i like.

Do you have any tips on what value to use to achieve a final file size.

Data

Sirber
29th January 2004, 17:09
450kbps for a 25Min anime gives something like 70-80MB, but testing it yourself is the best way :sly:

datascab
29th January 2004, 17:17
Cool.....That'll do for me.

I noticed when I started an encode... the overall avg. bitrate is allocated as follows: -

Avg. 1300000
Video 1172000
Audio 128000

So doesnt that mean that the overhead will add to final size and also it would he hard to predict coz its dynamic?

This encode i'm doing at the moment should be finished soon so it'll be interesting to see what the final size is :)

Oh i read the 1st thread.... is batch encoding in this version and if it is.... how does it allow you to specify different setting per input file?

Thanks, really cool program :)

Oh, you know where you input resize dimensions? Would it be possible to had a little tooltip like you have for the crop?

settings are global for all files, Surreal UI will grant per-file settings.

Don't forget, realanime is basic. Surreal UI will be complex :)

It's really awesome, I tried various quality AVIs, and got the same quality or even better at half the size everytime...

It's almost magic on old animes tv/vhsrips with LOTS of noise, it almost erase it completely :eek:

I finally decided to use HE-AAC, so I first watch the AVIs on the xbox then convert them and burn them for stockage :D

And I can always convert them again to MPEG2 to make dvd videos if needed, since TMPEG works like a charm even with RV9 and HE-AAC audio ;)

I'm gonna test it a lot this week end , and maybe add real video 8 and ralf ^^

damrod
31st January 2004, 16:40
cool

finally i retreive your sourcode for realanime 1.81

i have some mod ;-))

- you can load/save files list
- there's a matroska muxer tabbed panel
- you can active/disactive 2-passes mode ;-)
- you can choose process priority

but i have difficulties with the drag and drop functionnality...

BTW how do you catch the cmd window in you realanime 1.90??
it's a good idea.. no more cmd windows :-))

Sirber

About the producer, I don,t know how to "hide" it with my current API calls. About the mods, it was about time someone use that code :D

damrod

chui borne : je voulais vire le deux-passes alors je l'ai fait en ajoutant d'autre truc..

c surtout le fait de pouvoir charger/sauvegarder une liste de fichiers pour du batch enconding

oups forum en anglais ;-))
euh

i'm very studborn...i don't want two-passes encoding so i remove it
and add others mods

especially the load/save files listing...

yes i speak wall street institute ebglish (too fun this add in the sub ;-))

Some notes:
* Je suis Québécois :o
* RealAnime is IDLE by default (hardcoded in modshell.bas)

Things to change:
* Change the name, since your software isn't *my* RealAnime.
* In AVISynth tab, add "return anime", ot some people might be confused and add it manually.
* RealAnime is a GNU software, by downloading the sources you agreed to the license (http://www.gnu.org/licenses/gpl.html), which means your modification have to be GNU and open source, so you have to post the sources.

I'll add a "mods" section in my first thread when the list will be corrected.

Sirber
1st February 2004, 15:26
I've found code to "hide" the executed window with the APIs. I will release v1.90 later today.

New features:
* Complete Real Audio codec support (except: vorbis, RALF)
* Drag&Drop support
* Scheduler
* Selectable priority for producer
* Selectable "new window status" for producer
* "Non-fatal error-skip" (TM) batch mode
* Encoding logs
* Statistics
* AVISynth filters (anime/general filters)

Note: HE-AAC is listed as "Stereo Music", but keep surround informations
