If i could take it back then i would but its now way pass the return date. so i am stuck with it. i just gotten into the BD backup thing a couple of months ago and that when i found that it couldn't play them. i just got the sony bdp s360 so i now have that as well.

I never could get my Samsung BD-P2500 to work right with full copies to BD9, but it works fine for full copies to BD25 and Movie Only copies to BD9 if I remove the AUXDATA folder or check the block for "Strict compliance with AVCHD". My guess is that the firmwares are similar between the different models.

BD-25 copies should work on any Blu-Ray standalone player. If it doesn't then either BD-RB or the player has an issue.

This player works great w/ Bd Rebuilder, it was discussed here recently, now it is on sale for $152.99 w/coupon code, I have no idea how long it will last (coupon =$30 off)

Just for the record, even though this was stated by J.Dobbs (THE creator of the Rebuilders) - I just updates my Sony BDP-S360 from version 002 to version 006, the picture quality improved and there has been no difference in playability of BD-Rebuilder encodes to BD25 or to DVD9 full backup or movie only. I'm so happy to have a player that works so well after trying to get a Panasonic BD80 to play BD Rebuilder full backups w/ no luck, the strict AVCHD movie only will work.:D

anybody tested fully disc support bdx written on dvd media on Philips BDP 7500 SL yet?

By quick fix - you mean fw updates?
I read a post by BigOrange in afterdawn.com where he says that he had a player, and updated the fw and then it wouldn't play BD Rebuilder discs anymore, or it is hit and miss - his advice, if nothings broke - stay away from fw updates...what does everyone else think about this? No. By "quick fix" I meant changes/fixes to BD-RB.

Anyone know what's up with PS3 lately. Some of my discs that used to play don't anymore, yet they play perfectly on the BDP-S360
Sony botched something up in the last firmware update

I saw a similar post a few days ago and went back to check some of my older copies... they all play fine with the PS3 3.01 firmware on both my 80gb Fat model and my new Slim. These are all Movie Only AVCHD copies onto BD9.
I didn't bother to check my Full Movie copies onto BD25, as they should play anyway...

That's the wierd part. If it was consistent, it would be easy (or easier) to nail down the problem. I haven't seen much that breaks it down by specific model/revisions of PS3's. I think I'm lucky with having the old 80gb MotorStorm bundle. That model doesn't seem to be plagued with some of the ankle biting issues that other 80gb models seem to have.
I haven't had any problems from my new Slim either, but I'm waiting for them to show up. :)

Hi, I've got a Pana BD60 and have freezing issues with some DVD backups.
No problems:
Hulk
Cars
continuing (not ceasing after about 10 seconds) freeze:
Wall-E
Ratatouille
Has anybody experienced similar issues? Is it a problem of decrypter, rebuilder or player?

Comparative analysis of BD-Rebuilder output on various players.
So, as I had been discussing on the bug report thread earlier, I've been seeing some odd problems with BD-25 converted movies on a friend's Sony S300.
What I then did was bring around a couple of friends, all Blu-ray enthusiasts, with their players. Between us we then had 3 Sonys (PS3, S300 and S350), one Samsung (BD-P1500), one LG (BD370), and one Philips (BD3000). We sat there all day testing a wide range of my output discs on all these players. And here are our findings:
Best players: PS3 & Sony S350 - played everything we threw at it with no artifacts, pauses or skips
Recurring problems with other players:
S300 - jerky motion on some titles
Samsung BD-P1500: picture freezes on some titles while audio continues
Philips BD3000: no major problems, but incompatibility problems with some newer titles (same with original discs i.e. Terminator Salvation, crappy disc menu programming apparently, requiring a firmware update not yet available for this machine)
LG BD370: By far the worst :( The machine itself has some great features, but a good number of the discs we tried on it would break down into motion artifacts. Worst offenders being Up, Blood: Last Vampire, Mamma Mia.
Jdobbs mentioned in the other thread that this could be LG's way of dealing with read errors, but it is throughout the entire movie, and I also re-burned a couple of the movies again on some higher grade discs, to the same result.
These were all tried with movies converted over time, from the first version of BD-rebuilder I used (24.xx I think) to 31.02, all players have the latest firmware available
Got Blu-ray? :D
http://dl.dropbox.com/u/691356/playaz.jpg
So, for the sake of troubleshooting/debugging, do you guys want me to post any logs or other information? Any tweaks I might be able to put in BD-Rebuilder to re-do these problem titles?

I was just at COSTCO yesterday, and they have the Sony BDP-S460 available for under $200. It appears to be the same machine as S360, only with Netflix and YouTube capability added in. They also had a low-end player (I forget the brand) for under $100.
Amazing how these are dropping. I just bought my S360 a few months ago for considerably more than that.

New to the forum and this may be an isolated case, but I've been using PC based players (PowerDVD etc.) for viewing/playing BD-Rebuilder backups - on which all of the movie-only and full disc backups I've done to BD5/9 have played without issue (terrific program BTW, jdobbs - thanks). Decided it was time for a stand-alone player and picked up the Sony BDP-N460 (streaming video) last week, assuming it would fall in line with Sony BDP-S300\S350\S360\S500\S550 series compatibility with full disc to BD9 encodes. All of the full disc backup encodes that I've done to BD9 with BD-J menus won't play in the Sony BDP-N460 ("can't operate this disc"). The full disc encodes to BD9 with HDMV (only) menus play fine. Movie-only encodes to BD9 or BD5 also play fine. BD9 media has been Memorex (typically Disc ID: RITEK-S04-66), burner - LG GGC-H20L.
After going through around 5-6 coasters trying to find out where I went wrong, I just picked up the Sony BDP-S360 for compatibility comparison purposes. As it turns out, all of the full disc backup encodes that I've done to BD9 with BD-J menus that would not play on the Sony BDP-N460, play fine on the Sony BDP-S360. I don't have a BD burner, but assuming it wouldn't be an issue for either player if burned to BD-25.
There was also the issue of an encode of "Goldfinger" that I had just recently done, movie-only to BD9 using BD-RB v0.31.02 where there was severe pixelization when played back on the Sony BDP-N460 (noted other reports on this when played on the Oppo). The pixelization issue was fixed when reverting back to BD-RB v0.31.01 (x264.exe version r1310) and played on the Sony BDP-N460. That same encode using BD-RB v 0.31.02 that had severe pixelization played back on the Sony BDP-N460, plays perfectly fine on the Sony BDP-S360. Both of these encodes worked fine when played back using PowerDVD/MPCHC on my PC, so there was no way of being able to tell the difference until burned to disc and played in a stand-alone, the results being totally player dependent. All of those "coasters" now play fine on the Sony BDP-S360.
I'm just wondering if anyone else has had any similar experience with the Sony BDP-N460. Unfortunate, since from what little I watched, most of the Netflix HD streaming was quite good IMO.

Good to know. I had assumed it was a repackaged 360...
So did I. The BDP-N460 and the BDP-S360 units look near identical front and rear as well as the menu structure (sans streaming in the BDP-S360). I even tried a short video slideshow using ProShow Producer outputted to Blu-ray burned to BD5 which uses BD-J menus by default - the BDP-S360 plays it, the BDP-N460 can't. Still interested if this behavior can be confirmed by other users. I live-chatted/e-mailed Sony support re: the ProShow issue, but they were little if any help. Just guessing, but my first take is that it's a firmware issue yet to be upgraded (or maybe not).

Compatibility is very important, but mkv support and NTFS on USB drivers are also important, and Sony players lack them... Hopefully compatibility can be improved with firmware upgrades but the other two options are more difficult to get (especially from Sony).

There will be players that support it -- but they'll always be on the fringe like DivX was/is. The money is in using Blu-ray to its full potential.

I agree. Unfortunately, Sony seems to be the way to go for Blu-Ray backups to DVD/BD media. The others just don't compare, proven by reading these forums.
The dilemma is most people wan't it both ways, so Sony may not be for them. But then the compatibility complaints are raised when using optical media.

An update to my earlier findings... Went to the mall, to a Hi-Fi shop where I know the manager, and tried a problem disc (Up BD25) on an LG BD350, which played absolutely fine... So either there's some kind of bug in the 370's firmware or what, I don't know...

I still have the Sony BDP-N460 (firmware v120):
Plays:
All BD-Rebuilder movie-only backups that I've done to BD5/9 (with one exception noted below).
All full disc encodes to BD9 with HDMV menus only.
Does not play:
Full disc encodes to BD9 with BD-J menus.
Movie only encodes with BD-Rebuilder v0.31.02 - reportedly no weightp support in the BDP-N460 - must be disabled (resulted in severe blocking/pixelization) - fixed in v0.31.04 (defaults to --weightp 0) and confirmed to work fine in v0.31.05 on a movie-only of Dave Matthews: Live at Radio City (had to do movie-only due to the IGS issue in a near 1GB .m2ts menu file). Blocking was not an issue with earlier BD-Rebuilder versions movie-only burned to BD5/9.
As an aside, the Netflix HD streaming on the BDP-N460 is quite good IMO. I'm using a Cat 6 STP (Shielded Twisted Pairs) RJ45 cable from my router, but I doubt that it makes any difference - it worked as well with a cheap retractable coiled type connection. The occasional buffering appears to be sourced based and the majority of the titles have played w/o interruption (I have a standard cable 5Mbps account). The Netflix HD selection is limited, but the pricing is right for one BD/DVD out at a time and streaming HD is unlimited. I'm hoping that a firmware upgrade will resolve the BDP-N460 full disc BD-J menu to BD9 issue prior to having to return it by 1/31/10. So far, the Sony BDP-S360 plays every BD-RB I've thrown at it except for some Universal titled BD's full disc to BD9 with PIP/secondary audio (no audio or subtitles in main movie - e.g. "Public Enemies"). Home brewed AVCHD needs to be encoded lower than 18(?) Mbps or it chokes.

I should have clarified that the AVCHD issue had nothing to do with BD-RB. That was my own faux pas using ProShow Producer for a still pic slide show presentation (wedding) burned directly to BD5 that I mistakenly encoded at 25Mbps. I re-encoded the project to 15Mbps and it worked fine on the Sony BDP-S360, but still will not play on the Sony BDP-N460 due to the default (and can't be modified) BD-J menu structure in ProShow Producer.

So I assign DVD+RW and click okay and it looks like the setting sticks. When i go to burn...BOOKTYPE - DVD_ROM

How in the world are you guys burninf DVD9 discs with DVD+R booktype for the Samsung player?! I am about to throw this Samsung junk into the trash compactor! lol

in order to change bootype settings in imgburn go here:

now go to:

Is patching with AVCHD patcher not required anymore? Is that why I get an error message when I tried to Patch the index.bdmv from BD-REbuilder working folder with AVCHD Patcher? I just want to make the most complaint BD9 and not running the AVCHD Patcher is OK. Thanks.

Patching is needed for playback of full backups with EU PS3's and maybe some other players (not very well tested).
Strict AVCHD breaks playback in funai based players (denon, phillips, insignia), windvd 9/10, and 2009+ builds of powerdvd 7/8/9 from dvd/bd. It will allow 2009+ builds of powerdvd 7/8/9 to playback from hard drive but only if AC3 audio.
The only thing you lose with non-strict avchd is powerdvd 7/8/9 hard drive playback, otherwise all known players support it.

Also -- when I speak about AVCHD, I'm talking about movie-only (as I said in my post). If you do full backup to BD-5/9, you're a slave to the firmware of the player -- and you can't predict what will happen on the next automatic firmware update. With BD-R's now only slightly more expensive than usable DVD-9's ($1.70 compared to $2.22) -- it's a good idea to do full backups to BD-R. I pretty much do all my full backups that way now.

Only what I could which is powerdvd 7/8/9 and winDVD 9/10. I haven't been keeping track of funai firmware updates but some of the players that don't support are probably already EOL from 2 years ago.
My guess is some players look at folder structure to determine if its AVCHD or BD and funai players don't claim to support AVCHD.

I am confused. So Strict AVCHD should be enabled, disabled or it just doesn't matter?

Are you playing it back on funai players, with windvd 9/10 or from disc/image with powerdvd 7/8/9?
If so, don't use strict avchd. If not it probably doesn't matter if your audio is AC3, if it's DTS audio there might be some unknown problems with strict AVCHD.

I do have an Insignia NS-BRDVD and when using "Strcict AVCHD" for movie only, it will not play
