By the way.. WMV encoder uses all the cpu cores you have. Xvid_encraw does not. Is there a way to get dual or quad core processing enabled? It seems to me the h.264 also doesn't use more than 1 core..

Just ran a test sample here on Core 2 Duo WinXP system and Xvid_encraw was using between 40% and 75% - so it's using both cores, just not fully (maybe it doesn't need to).
When you mention h.264, do you mean x264 within AutoMKV? On my system x264 consistently uses 96-99% if I'm not running anything else.

Try to use the threat-parameter. I did some tests and found out, that for my C2Duo "3" ist the best choice (xvidencraw). With this my processor uses 60-80% and encodings are very fast. After increasing the parameter (4-6) the processor uses 90-95% BUT it takes longer time to finish the encoding-process. So high processor-use does NOT always mean fast encoding!

cpu use most depends on filter chains.. if filters aren't smp optimized.. xvid_encraw/x264 can encode only frames avaiable..

P.S. i am waiting for m2ts files.. if anyone

Buzzqw:

I was just curious, is there a way through AutoMKV to rip a 5.1 surround audio and preserve it in the rip without degrading it to stereo?

just selecting "Original" in dowmixing list
any problem ?

@Encoder888

I have the same problem since a while. it,s always downmix to AC3 2ch.

even if Ac3Filter play it 5.1

I use ripbot264 to convert the audio track and replace the audio from automkv and mux it back.

Encoder888
3rd March 2008, 17:18
Yeah, well "original" just copies the original audio which is pretty sizable, I was wondering if there was a way to compress all 6 channels of the audio in a similar way that 2 get compressed, of course it will be bigger, but not as big as the original.

buzzqw
3rd March 2008, 17:38
so choose as codec AC3 and Original as DownMixing mode, then set bitrate...

Hm. Should try again without the omnipresent removegrain(2) filter. Maybe it'll then use >90% cpu even with just 2 threads. That's the only filter I've explicitly enabled with xvids.

Btw for the record, xvid anamorphic and PAR=Auto seems to work ok. At least for DVD rips. Let's try it with DVB captures.

Oh wow, I can't believe how stupid I am. Thanks for answering my dumb question. I guess I never looked into the audio settings too much...

Encoder888
3rd March 2008, 20:12
I also have another question. I just got a BD-ROM drive today and I copied a Blu-Ray movie on my PC. I've never done any HD encoding, and so I was wondering if someone could help me with directions as to how to rip a blu-ray movie... Basically, the movie (both audio and video) is a LOT of .m2ts files, and that's it, no indication files, like with DVDs, or nothing... So, AutoMKV does not recognize the .m2ts format, and I'm guessing there is no support for Blu-Ray encoding at this time... ?

if you want i have already a beta (PM me)... (with only ac3 audio support)... i desperately need for some m2ts sample with different audio

about m2ts file handling.. better to look around.. my knowledge is insignificant on bluray (even if i have a ps3)

sure, I could do some testing on the m2ts files...

By the way, from my previous question, about selecting original in the downmixing mode and then selecting a codec to preserve the original 6 channels - you said select AC3. Can I select whichever one I want (like Nero AAC ?)

buzzqw

Can I select whichever one I want (like Nero AAC ?)

6ch aware codecs are: nero, aac cct, and ogg.
For ogg i cannot guarantee correct channels mapping

It's not possible to rip all Bluray movies. The BD+ protected discs are rip-proof at the moment.

I can't get AutoMKV to encode x264 - it starts encoding and then just stops. Is there something wrong with the packaged encoder?

Also, is there a way to add 3 audio tracks to a matroska container? Looks like the GUI only allows 2.

@ buzzqw:

I joined the forum the day after your son was born, since i was not allowed to post then, and i've been away til now, here's what i wanted to say:

"Congrats also from here! After years of xvid i just discovered AutoMKV yesterday, and having done my first x264 movie i kinda start feeling reborn too ;)

First i gotta say the program is really great, thanks a lot, i have two questions though (being new to the whole thing, i hope i'm not repeating)

Is it possible to make the program window resizeable? Im having text cut off, and at certain items i got a feeling there is some second line hidden underneath the next object.. since i wouldn't mind a larger window, having it resizable would be great.

Secondly: What do you think about a checkbox "redo last job", something in a way complemental to "prepare phase only" (afaiu)? When changing your mind in the middle of video-encoding, or trying out different parameters on a certain film, it would really be comfortable not having to wait for all the indexing, demuxing, analyzing and audio stuff all over again, by just using the old stuff with one click. (As for now i know i could specify external audio, for the rest i don't know (yet), still, that's why i said "with one click")

OK thanks again for your work, i hope you get some sleep these days, eheh ;)"

are you using peculiar dpi /monitor ? anyway i will look at this!

and when to click ? in the middle of a job ? .. so it' like a abort/resume... better to close automkv and restart.. sorry but this isn't a easy task to do... :o

I meant more like after aborting a job. So in the next try you check this box meaning everything stays the same exept for video options (like for example switching codec profile). Anyway was just an idea... :D

haali media splitter is able to switch audio tracks and subtitle languages... but is better to use with a decent player like media player classic or zoomplayer

REQUEST:

Add 15000,1001 and 12000,1001 to list of built-in FPS settings.

15000,1001 is very useful for killing half of the largely useless frames in NTSC "talking head" documentaries and blurry hand-cam travelogue DVDs; and 12000,1001 will remove redundant progressive frames in 12fps anime.

Hi all,

I just discovered AutoMKV recently and am amazed at the results I'm getting. Great job!!!

I don't know if I have to set up a separate thread anywhere, but I've got a little problem. I'm currently re-encoding episodes of a TV show (Flight of the Conchords) which is fom a PAL DVD.

I haven't touched the setting in the deinterlacer at all, but I'm noticing some really nasty motion artefacts. Static scenes are OK, but when there's motion going on the picture is stuttering all over the place.

Is there anything I can do to fix this? If you need any further information please let me know...and if this is the wrong thread, I apologise.

Thanks for all comments!

Any idea how to fix this?

@Roscoe62

You could try selecting "HQ Deint" on the "Advanced Settings" tab to see if that does a better job. Otherwise you will need to specify the de-interlacing manually by selecting Interlaced and specifying Field Order as TFF or BFF (you can load it into dgindex and press F5 which will show you). You log from the failed conversions should show you whether it detected TFF or BFF also.

I had the same problem with some extras on a TV Series DVD and only way to get it to come out ok was to manually specify it.

As I understand it, currently there are cases where the detection can't decide whether it's interlaced or not (e.g. approx 50% seems interlaced and 50% progressive) and so it doesn't apply interlacing. There's been some discussion and preferences put forward by some earlier in this thread and buzzqw has it on his "to do" list to look at an improvement here.

BUG ...... in the Queue, but hopefully easy to address without being PITA.

Job 0 - AQ strength & AQ sensitivity set to non zero (e.g. 5 / 20)
Job 1 - AQ strength & AQ sensitivity set to zero (or blank)

Settings are correctly saved in queueX.ini files (blank settings are saved as 0).

Job 0 runs with AQ settings (5 / 20) read from queue0.ini and used correctly
Job 1 runs with AQ settings from previous job.

It seems that if AQ settings are zero in the queueX.ini then it doesn't overwrite any settings that may exist from the previous job.

Hi,

I saw some long threads about making movies exactly 16:9 to fully occupy screen of my TV but I have not understood much of what being said.
What I want to do is for any conversion I would be making (MKV-->DivX, DVD--DivX) is it possible to not having any black bars on top for any content which is wider then 16:9?
I don't care if some parts of the movies will be missing becouse of that, all I want is to maximize my viewing size. I can do it on TV but don't want to mess with remote control and switch back and forth.

This is easiest to do with a virgin anamorphic DVD source. If the file has already been hacked to a DivX previously, it may be much harder to do because you'll need another program to add the black bars back in. 'Not to mention the loss of quality again.

Quick question here, I did a search and didn't find anything. But I am ripping all my Family Guy DVDs to .mkvs. For some reason they have split up the episodes so that on this particular dvd 3 episodes are in 1 pgc and 3 more are in another pgc. I can rip the 3 that are the longest but I can get at the other ones. Is there a way that I can pick what pgc I want to rip from without having AutoMKV do it for me?

fateman
6th March 2008, 17:51
You can't choose PGCs on the right where it has the time in the drop down?

jason288
6th March 2008, 19:51
Maybe I explained it wrong, I can choose 3 of the episodes but not the other 2.

For example: FAMILY_GUY_VOL4_D1 has 2 episodes in VTS_05 and 3 episodes in VTS_06. AutoMKV automatically selects VTS_06 cause its the longest. I want to be able to tell it to use VTS_5 only so I can get those last 2 episodes. I have used DVD Decrypter to rip single episodes and then encode from there but something happens to the subtitles and they dont get ripped/sync correctly when you do it this way.

I've tried to backup certain dvd movie. Disk is scratched and there are read errors both in dvd-drive and standalone player. That's actually reason for the backup. So i copied movie to hdd with dvddecrypter, told it to skip read error. Than i attacked rip with latest automkv. Set all parameter up and start it, but at the beginning, when automkv copy vob to its working directory i got error "PGCDEMUX: error reading source vob: not syncronized" (or something like this). I guess it was because error during grabbing? And than automkv encoded only part of movie, which were copied before this error. Any workaround?

select the first vob (usually vts_01_01.vob) and not the ifo...

Thanx. There are few titles in these vobs. Automkv pick them all, but i want only one of them.

But i guess i may decrypt it in ifo-mode, not file-mode.

Hi all

Since it's my 1st post, would like to thank you for the time and effort you put into AutoMkv. I started with MkvMagic and now switched over to AutoMkv. Both excellent programs, :thanks:.

To help you improve it, here are the issues that i've stumbled upon (no party crashers though):

Versions: win xp sp2 / automkv 0.95d / avisynth 2.57

Bugs?:
1) audio temp files deleted even though "Del Temp File" not selected (ac3, wav)

2) all supporting programs (except for x264 encoder) are executed in normal priority not idle, even though I manually set AutoMkv to idle prio (I'm running app as normal user so NOT admin)

3) two entries of "RIP ALL SUBS" in first subs drop down combobox, one should suffice

4) when selecting "RIP ALL SUBS", altought subs are ripped, they don't get included in final mp4, looks like a command line problem (from muxing.bat):
"D:\Progs\AutoMkv\exe\matroska\MP4Box.exe" -add "D:\Download\Temp\Dvd\Test\temp\movie.264": par=1.758242 -chap "D:\Progs\AutoMkv\exe\chapters.txt" -add "D:\Download\Temp\Dvd\Test\temp\movie t80 2_0ch 192kbps delay 17ms.mp4:lang=und" -add "D:\Download\Temp\Dvd\Test\temp\Test.idx#2" -fps 29.9700 -new "D:\Download\Temp\Dvd\Test\temp\Test_full.mp4"
idx contains only 1 single sub(index=0) there is no sub with index 2 so the index is wrongly set

5) # of threads not saved (already reported I think)

6) AQ strength & sensivity not properly initialized on application load (showing as 0 & 0 in command line window at bottom) altough restored corretly if in "Adv. X264 Options" section a "Reload Profile" is performed

Thanks again. And hope this helps :helpful:.

is it possible with automkv to have it automatically put the computer to sleep after completing the queue? if not specifically is there a way to have it run a command that would accomplish same: rundll32 powrprof.dll,SetSuspendState

ok, i see that my options are stayON, reboot, shutdown, and logoff. I need a hibernate function so my capture cards can wake up the machine?
