@buzzwq

do you have plan to release a beta that will integrate tsmuxer 1.4.5 for the bluray output ? (and need to calculate the size for fitting it on a DVD5 :) )

thanks

@jult

check log.. also open the movie.avs in virtualdub.. got errors ?I'm not using any AVS filtering for this. (You should add an option to disable avs entirely, and just let it be staxrip on steroids..)
Vdub says on temp\movie.avs:

Avisynth open failure:
LoadPlugin: unable to load "C:\Base\V\AutoMKV\exe\filter\FFMpegSource.dll"
(B:\temp\movie.avs, line 15)

Here's the log (ffmpeg even crashed on me just now!).
Strange thing is, the source avi for this is a x264 lossless. One would assume x264 understand its own videos!

Also, I prefer --me esa and do --nr 50 so I use my own profile/commands for x264 (which it did not use.. :( ):

I'm having a problem with setting a custom filesize. I'm converting DVD's to MKV's. I try to set it to 4gb but the filesize always ends up much bigger. I tried inputting both 4000 and 4000000 in the custom file box but no luck.

I'm using:
- HighQuality_Slower
- Lanczos resize
- Auto width
- Anamorphic

Any ideas?
Thanks

I have a very newbie question, I guess..
I have encoded a few dvd's with autoMKV 0.95c, exactly like the guide at http://www.kayakingcoach.com/GUIDE.htm.
With MPC HC 1.1.0.0 I have perfect sound, perfect subtitle but NO picture...
Is this a problem with MPC HC or the encoding by automkv?
Where shall I start searching for the problem?

First of All Welcome to the Forum!

i suggest to install (as described in first post of this thread) ffdshow and haali media splitter

Some cropping complaints -

I have DVB captures with black bars. Sometimes even several as BBC had this brilliant idea about "compromise" aspect ratio of 15:10 (or something like that)

So now when I hit preview, I can pause the video, relocate it to suitable position and I can set good mod8 crop values.

However, the SIZE value is NOT updated and .95c plonks the original (or stretched for anamorphic) value to the "specify width x height" boxes. Also "autocrop and autoresize"-box is ticked.

So if I interpret all that correctly, I'd get black bars cropped (good) and then UPSCALED back to original resolution possibly messing the AR (bad)

Ticking "manual crop" box and unticking "crop + resize" forgets the values in the boxes. Minor but annoying inconvenience.

Barleyman

Another annoyance:

The test deint fires two x264 passes to determine if we're interlaced or not. So far so good. However, 2nd pass is sloooow, like 15 minutes!

Also the CPU of X2 athlon is only used by about 25-30% (http://personal.inet.fi/koti/ohramies/2008/interlace.png)

correct. Just simply scale down resolution to what you want

nothing much to do. Deinterlacer process is a 2 pass work. On first is determined if frame is tff/bff, the second determine the pattern (interlaced or not).
The second work actually cannot be faster.. but i can keep busy all cpus if you want (it's a matter of analyze a bigger resolution..., you will not get a better analysis but all cores will be busy)

Would it be possible to integrate support for a third audio track. As for some files I would need to have such a third track. It looks like it is not impossible as my search showed me that AutoGK or MEGui do have the possibility to use more than two audio tracks. But I wouldn´t be surprised if this was a awful lot of work to program and therefore it is left out. It is a question out of curiosity.

I´ve got another question regarding the useable codecs. Is there a possibility to use the divx codec for the processing of files with AutoMKV and if not here comes my noob question.

@all
Is there any quality difference at all between DivX 6.8 Pro and the current Xvid release? As I heard there was none, but since then the DivX encoder evolved from 6.3 to 6.8.

Unfortunately I am not that familiar with encoding so pleas forgive me that possible noob question.

Edit: How can I use a "custom Profile" where I can set main parameters like bitrate. I.E. is there a profile where I can check a specific bitrate instead of an quantitizer? If not, what quantitizers could be recomended for Xvid and x264 encoding a DVD source file? BTW did i get it right, the lower the quantitizer number the higer the bitrate and the quality.

One more question is there any benefit in the quality/size ratio if I am using 1 - pass CBR compared to two pass encoding if there is no need to meet a specific filesize?

I don't know if the crop window-applet is something you wrote, but wouldn't it be more logical the size would automagically adjust to whatever value you cropped the video to?

OK, of course I can adjust the size but I guess I'd rather play safe and enter the values again to the crop boxes after choosing "crop only" ..

Seems a bit counterintuitive it can't be faster.. What's the actual holdup here? Analysis filter?

I suppose fastest way remains using eyeball mk1 to check the video manually. Broadcast flags and DVD flags seem to be nonsense more often than not, unfortunately.

Going back to xvid multicore for a bit, does the default of "0" threads use some kind of autodetect by xvid_encraw?

yea, that's for sure. Deinteralce analysis isn't perfect but do it's job, and will not spend more then 10 minutes

You might consider a slightly more "hands-on" approach by manually demuxing the extra tracks or manually encoding the audio with BeSweet/BeLight and muxing (http://www.kamiwa.de/node/4) your preferred choice.

It's also an opportunity to finetune your encoding skills.

Suppose, in AutoMKV, I perform an XviD single pass at CQ3 with "100% Quality" checked in advanced settings. I then note the resultant file-size and enter it in the output size box for a 2-Pass "Insane Quality".

Q. Assuming all other settings (filters, etc) remain the same, will a 2-Pass of output size XYZmb be of discernibly higher quality than a CQ of size XYZmb? (IOW, am I getting anything for tripling the encoding time?)

And why your program doesn’t read the audio steam list from file? I’ve got MKV film with ENG and RUS audio tracks, so to convert all this into avi I have had to unpack mkv in video, eng audio and Russian audio files (3files) and then all this add in you prog.

Why do you want to use AVI? It's very limited and outdated. MKV and MP4 are better in almost every way.

simply NO.

100% quality mean all quant at 2, so will be not possible (without tweaking the profile) to get better quality, even if in 2 pass profile you double the final size

Why there is no possibility to put x264 in Avi container?
it's not correct. x264 loose much of it's potential in avi.
you can also read the sticky of mpeg4-avc forum

And why your program doesn’t read the audio steam list from file?

actually isn't supported. from avi/mkv/mp4 stream only the first audio is processed.
maybe in a future update

And what is the matter with any quant above 2 or 100% quality - lets say with 75% quality? Will there be a difference. I am just wondering as I am not that familiar with encoding. But as exact filsize is not that important to me the next thing to decide up on is time taken for coding.

So thank you for an answer.

If you do a single pass at 75% and get the filesize then use that filesize to do a two pass the results should be better. But, I have tried it many, many times and I don't see any difference whatsoever. So it appears that it does not make enough difference to notice. I do all my encoding, like many others, in single pass.

Hey buzz, have a suggestion for you!

Is there anyway you can ungrey the input area? It would be Sooooooo much easier to que files! I usually have all my files as 01, 02, 03, etc etc, but having to que > add > find file is much more monotonous than just replacing a single digit in the input box and hitting the 'add que' button. Thanks man, your work is top notch!

I've got an old MKV file with h264 video, OGG audio and SSA subtitles.

Is there anyway that I can not reencode the video using the GUI? I'm just trying to mux it into MP4, hardsub the video and reencode the audio only.

I'm trying to create workflow for playing back my files on the PS3.

Is there anyway that I can not reencode the video using the GUI? I'm just trying to mux it into MP4, hardsub the video and reencode the audio only.
Yes you can not encode the video but have the subs extracted and audio processed by ticking Prepare Phase Only on the advanced settings tab.
BUT You can't burn the subs into the video without re-encoding it, so you have no choice but to re-encode fully (regardless of what software you use).

Please help....
The log window said that the job was finished but I could not find any output :(
I have the option of "deleting the Temp files after the job"- enabled.
Where is the output?

06:16:35 Final Muxed size: -1 bytes

No muxed output produced - there was apparently a problem during muxing as it does appear from the log that the audio and video output files were created. You could've tried muxing them manually, BUT, they're now gone.

Moral of the Story - Don't tick "Del Temp File".

With a recent change to AutoMKV there's really no good reason to use the delete temp files option as even in batch mode now there's no problems re-using the same temp directory - it's cleared before each job is run.

(IOW, am I getting anything for tripling the encoding time ?)

simply NO.
If you do a single pass at 75% and get the filesize then use that filesize to do a two pass the results should be better.

Well... strictly speaking, 2-pass should be worse than "1-pass CQ" !

2-pass keeps looking over it's shoulder to maximise the quality without over-running the bitrate (CQ has no worries).
The result is that overall the quality is the same... but probably with 99% consistency... some sections have more quality while others have less.
2-pass is a bit like communism... always trying to share equally but never quite succeeding.

CQ gets it right the first time !

Thanks for your reply...

Ok, I shall try to redo the job without deleting the TEMP files. But will it guarantee an output as because the main problem remains unanswered still, why is there no Final Output produced? It seems that log is not throwing light in that direction.

And how can the Temporary files could be muxed? Sorry, but this is the first time I am attempting a X264 conversion.

Any help...?

Nothing can be done on that front....I really do not plan to change the folder name as that will force me to change every Shortcut manually....and there are quite a lot.

@arrirc

buzzqw's response explained the why - "mp4box dislike dots"

I know when I use mkv container, there is a batch file "muxing.bat" in the temp directory that I could run (or edit first as need be). Not sure about mp4 container though as I don't use it.

Why not just make an exception for AutoMKV, moving it to a different folder.

If you're going to stick with using a folder with dots in it then you're going to keep having this problem - likely regardless of which GUI you use as quite a lot of them use mp4box for the muxing as I understand it.

news on new update

as you may know i am quite busy with my new baby, but i don't forgot my friendly users!

0.96 is on the right way, i have done some bugfixing and introduced support for divx 6.8
i also have changed (again... and if not good i will totally remove the support) the wmv encoding
now is based on vc1encoder (based on free vc1 sdk), so no more direct profile for wmv7,wmv8,wmv9 or zune profile.
WMV will have the standard profiles, AND actually NO 1 pass or Constant quality profiles, since vc1 sdk is broken and not allow 1 pass/constant quality encoding

I wil also have introduced surely more bugs.. but i hope not to much

some users as requested support for building bluray disk.. i actually prefer (for my ps3) "simple" m2ts files... but if many users are interested i will look how to support this muxing

best regards

Ok, after de selecting the option to delete the TEMP folder, I did get the output but it was without any Audio

I have chosen AAC Original in the Audio Options.

One thing I should mention here, and that is after downloading the Codec from NERO official Site, I could not find any dll file as mentioned in the Guide, instead there are 4 exe files under the win32 directory.

Sorry, but I have accidentally deleted the Log File after the process failed, but I can confirm this that I have selected the Right Audio track and it was demuxed and stored in the folder where the output was to be saved.

Could the Developer please tell me why I did not get the Audio?:confused:

:thanks:

My setup stopped encoding - not sure why. I have the source VOBs running from a USB drive...

I could try reinstalling things, but I can't see from the log what the problem is. Anybody have an idea?
