I remember quite a few complaints (or frustrations, if you'd like to be more accurate about it) that were launched toward DVD Shrink and Jdobbs back in the days of DVD9-to-DVD5 backups. I believe it even lead to a "free pies" sticky, if memory serves. While I can understand that many people would prefer a simple and basic GUI that has a "make a flawless copy" button on it, the fact is that no such button could EVER exist for the simple fact that quality is subjective; what looks fantastic to me might look like crap to Sharktooth.
So I'm going to chip in and simply add my own heartfelt "Thanks!" to those who choose--of their own free will--to devote portions of their limited time toward creating tools that put US in charge of making our backups in whatever manner WE feel is best. They offer the end user flexibility and nearly endless choices, which is something I have yet to find in any commercial product. That these tools are offered for free makes their offer nothing short of incredible! I feel it's the least I can do to learn how to actually use these tools--not a burdeon: And yes, my time's as limited as the next person's.
Thanks again to all the developers. I for one deeply appreciate all of your hard work!

Wow, a couple of people made some constructive criticism and cheerleaders flood in to block them out, not much has changed since highschool has it?
I agree with ettin and honeyko, but its not even about fancy GUI's or easy presets, theres just no information aside from some dry and rather two dimensional explanations about what their filters/encoders/settings can do. Instead of its creator spending some extra time writing a detailed description and explanation of each feature, they write a line or two mentioning that it exists and that it does in fact do something, but leaves you wondering what, so then you spend hours just trying to figure that out for yourself.
No, they dont have to do anything for anyone and i guess its cool that they've done anything at all, but if your going to put something out there for people to use and not offer an indepth guide for its use, dont expect to be taken seriously. But hey, i guess if these programmers wanted people to take them seriously, industry professionals would be using "AutoMPEG2" instead of CCE.

I notice in the changelog at the start of the thread it says " Fixed some pop up windows" I am in the process of ugrading to 0.95, only started using AutoMKV yesterday been using MeGUi but at present for me it is too unstable and AutoMKV seems to have a lot of options I like.
There have been only two issues one after I start queue and AutoMKV starts encoding I keep receiving pop ups in notepad such as set objShell = CreateObject("WScript.Shell")
objShell.Run """C:\Documents and Settings\home\My Documents\Downloads\Music Videos\Complete\temp\movielenght.bat""",7,True and the encoding will not continue until I close them. Is this what is fixed in 0.95c ? Or is there an option to disable this behaviour?
Qtrim failed in every instance on 0.93 but I will test out this on 0.95c first. It really is the pop up windows that I am troubled about.
The rest seems awesome it actually appears it may actually be a complete one program does all solution, but I guess will have to test it further yet. :)

@flebber
please try the 0.97 the vbscript for movielenght is resolved (and btw wasn't a problem.. just you miss some components for launching vbscript .. maybe your antivirus blocking it ?)
@Poof
automkv isn't my job, just an hobby. So, feel free to use it or not, and.. when mastered, please.. update the wiki

HI All
Been away for a while, and haven't kept up with the posts.
I am having issues with audio sync and have tried all the different settings available with no luck.
Is there any other way of fixing issues with audio sync
Thanks

@Prolific
your script is ok, please open it with virtualdub, do you get any error ?
also, check your c:\program files\avisynth2.5\plugins folder and RENAME the plugins folder to plugins-old
i can suppose you have some weird filters in avisynth plugins folder that is automatically loaded.. and break the script

I confirm the preview problem remains in the latest beta version. A few points:
1. When choosing preview in the latest beta the "original aspect ratio" is not set .. this was automatically set in version 0.95.
2. The failure to preview results in the bottom controls being not functional (play, pause etc). The AutoMKV interface is similar to the picture posted in Post 157. However the other interface controls (cropping, Accept, Cancel, Preview resized) all function .. If I select "Preview Resized" then the movie renders correctly in the new window. This problem is specific to a VOB file .. The VOB files that fail to "preview" will fail repeatedly. I have used gspot and graphedit to view which codecs are used by the VOB .. they are the normal codecs required for all other VOB's. In fact GSPOT and Graphedit can play these VOB's with no problem (just like the Preview Resized routine will also play them.)
I find autoMKV to be a very useful program ... although it is somewhat daunting to figure out what all of the options are and when/which filters are usefull ...

Hi,
I want to encode video and put all audio and all subtitles (different languages) from DVD into x264 MKV. Do I need any other tools other then AutoMKV to make this happen? If no then what settings I need to use?
buzzqw

yes , automkv can do this (but i suggest to update to 0.97.1) simply select "All audio tracks" and "All subtitles"

yes , automkv can do this (but i suggest to update to 0.97.1) simply select "All audio tracks" and "All subtitles"
BHH
Thanks, that works as advertised. The only issue in resulting MKV file languages from original DVD were called "Unknown". I had 2 (Russian and English) and both of them become "unknown" in resulting MKV file.

@artisticcheese
yes you are right in case of "all audio" and "all subs" you loose the "language" tag
since you have only 2 audio and 2 subs.. better to select these with first and second audio and subs tracks :)

Hello. This is my first post here at doom9 :) I've been using AutoMKV for awhile and think that it's a great program. It has some issues but none that can't be worked out IMO. Well done to those involved.
Alright some issues with 0.95c. First, when I try to use the two-pass VC1 profiles it doesn't work. One pass Quality VBR works. Maybe it's a slight problem with the script. The WMA volume is much lower than it should be. It doesn't matter if I have volume normalization on or off. When using x264 or Xvid no problems. In Windows Media Encoder 9 when the source file has AC3, the AC3 output volume can be adjusted with AC3Filter as a plugin. The other issue is the rar file with DVD Decrypter doesn't extract. I was wondering if I could just add it manually anyways. Any suggestions?

Hi Wizecat
wmv support in automkv is very limited, sorry
mainly because Microsoft don't provide usefull/complete/fuctional command line tool to encode (audio and video)
sorry pal, but till situation is as is.. wmv will be the black sheep

Thanks for the reply buzzqw. That's unfortunate Microsoft doesn't have a command tool that will work with sound as well as video. :( A big company like that, should think bigger.
I am happy to say though that ac3 and mp3 sound is just about right when encoding using AutoMKV.

I have been trying my hand at encoding .ts files to .mkv using automkv0.95c. I have two questions. My .ts file has mepg2 video and 6ch ac3 audio. When I load the file into automkv it only loads the video and it will not let me select the audio. So I am using tsmuxer to demux the ac3 and load it into the audio portion that way. It's not a big deal, just a couple extra steps, I'm just wondering if I am doing something wrong.
My other question is about the profiles. The wiki says: "The profiles are organized according to quality and speed. Remember that the slowest profiles do not always correspond to significantly higher quality than the normal profiles.
Remember also that for an Unlimited/Unconstrained file size (aka I want Quality) is much better to select Constant Quality Profile, not the 2 pass profile. The Constant Quality profile allow user to select the quality to achive while encoding in 1 pass at reasonable speed. There is no reason to encode in 2 pass aiming for quality, because the quality will be maximized only using Constant Quality profile"
Does this mean that if I select the bitrate under advanced settings that I should be encoding with the Constant Quality profile? If I don't choose the bitrate and choose to encode to a specific file size instead what advantage am I getting by using 2-pass over 1-pass, or the slower versions of the 2-pass? What do the slower profiles do if the wiki says they don't necessarily give you a higher quality? I know you didn't write the wiki I was just hoping you could clear that up for me.

@pilot550
first of all use the latest build not this old 'one
Does this mean that if I select the bitrate under advanced settings that I should be encoding with the Constant Quality profile?
no, absolutely
manual bitrate is to use only for forcing BITRATE , and bitrate is used in 1 pass or 2 pass encoding , NOT on crf encoding
forcing "specify quality" (under manual bitrate) is a way , for newby, to use quality profiles without knowing the meaning of quantitizer..., setting quality to 75% is easier than set quant to 2.7
If I don't choose the bitrate and choose to encode to a specific file size instead what advantage am I getting by using 2-pass over 1-pass, or the slower versions of the 2-pass?
if you want encoding for specific size, is always better to use a 2 pass profile (the balanced is a good choice)
if you don't mean size, use a constant quality profile

Thank you, that clears up a lot. I think I'm starting to get it now. I found the latest build as well.

Firstly if you want people to use the latest build why isn't it linked on the first post of this thread? You can't blame people for using the build that's actually on the first post.
Second that build doesn't even install. I downloaded it and all that happens is I get an error message telling me that there is an .txt file missing or something.
This thread is a bloody mess. Is it too much to ask for someone to put a link to the latest working version of the program on the first post of the thread, where everyone who comes here is obviously going to look for it? So far I've downloaded 5 different versions of this from various download sites and none of them have been the full version or wouldn't install. As far as I can tell this whole thing is just a crock of shit.

I used AutoMKV and I converted 5 different MKV movies to AVI. But to my horror none of them could be audible or had no audio coming out. Video played nicely at top quality but the audio didnt come at all. I have all necessary codecs installed mentioned in this page. Can anyone help me where I went wrong or what I forgot to do.
Steps That I took for (MKV to AVI) Conversion.
Input File > Choose Container, Codec & Profile (AVI, XVID, 2 Pass Insane Quality)
> Audio Track 1 (Stream #0.1 Audio:aac, AC3 Stereo) Advanced Audio Option (CBR, Frequency 41000)
> Resizers (Set width Resolution = Original) > Output size/Name Option ( 1cd, Name of the movie)
> Start Encoding.
I am also posting One of the Logs to see where and what caused the problem.

I have had it with this Software.
I tired to covert a 300MKV movie to 700AVI Movie. And its given me goosebumps, by wasting my time.
I have Win xp service pack 2, 200gb hardisk, 2 gb ram. Just see the time wasted mine, by trying to mux audio by Ffmeg.

If you enter the log in [code] ... /code] tags you can post the complete log !
That said, I have also experienced many problems while encoding ... sometimes because of AutoMKV, othertimes because of Windows, hardware or simply my own iggerance.
I am hardly the greatest encoder ever but AutoMKV has certainly been my altime favourite encoding app.
If there is anyway we could help in improving your computing experience ... please don't hesitate to ask !!
It's all good !

Where did you get the MKV file?
I downloaded it from the Internet.
But the point is not that, the software is unable to properly convert a MKV file to AVI, Cause it converts the video but audio has problem. i tired 0.98.1 & 0.98.2. None could properly convert, please go through my post #928,930,932,934,941. And its been weeks I am posting log after log. but havent received proper reply or solution. Buzzqw wont understand english very well. I have said him several times that i use the lastest Automkv to convert files. But he wont understand at all. Again he would suggest me to download the latest one. I guess the version name is given on top of the log. I think he never goes through the log.
This forum is for Automkv and the moderator or authors are suppose to help us to solve our problem, but is they are unable to then i see no point in carrying on with this software.

Quite right ... but in the meantime re-download AutoMKV 0.98.2 (http://www.64k.it/andres/data/a/AutoMKV0982.rar) and try again ... such is the root to success !
retired 0.98.2 till further check
re uploaded the 0.98.2
please test it AutoMKV 0.98.2 (http://www.64k.it/andres/data/a/AutoMKV0982.rar)
Pirating is evil and some movie/file(s) are beyond redemption.
Hopefully you're into the good stuff and all works out for the best in the end.
Until then ... hang in there ... and all will be revealed !!!
It's all good !

Struck for rule 6.
@delacroixp
Also struck for rule 6 for giving help on it after he clearly stated he downloaded it. You acknowledged that and then gave help anyway.
