Ok, I shall try again and let you know about the result....:(

Please let me know:
What should be the Settings under Deinterlacer options? The source is progressive, I ran the analysis. Under Deinterlacer> Deinterlacer, I have chosen NONE. But I have no idea what to choose under Deinterlacer> Field Order and Deinterlacer> Cust. Matrix.
Please suggest....
(Tried to consult Wiki, but could not find any info...sorry)

@arrirc
My understanding is that if you have a progressive source and have chosen either Progressive or None (doesn't matter which really) then the other fields are irrelevant. Never caused a problem for me anyway.

Yes Zacoz, you have understood it correctly. :)
So the Diinterlace> Deinterlace part simply specifies the type of source- right?
There is one more problem I have encountered, it seems to be almost impossible to edit a Job already added in the que. I see at the bottom of the program window "computing file size in MB", and then nothing happens. :O

yes, for an unknow source users must select AUTO.. BUT if you know your source, you can specify all parameters
look here for a quick reference http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?p=937978#post937978

yes, for an unknow source users must select AUTO.. BUT if you know your source, you can specify all parametersSomething that I'm curious about with de-interlacing. If the source is NTSC 29.97, then the de-interlaced output is 23.976. That's fine. Sometimes though the AUTO settings simply can't seem to de-interlace correctly so then I need to check using VirtualDub and after that manually specify the Deinterlacer and Field Order parameters in AutoMKV.
Question: Why is the output still 29.97? Why not 23.976? Am I doing something wrong? Or is this normal behavior?
buzzqw
15th March 2008, 11:03
If the source is NTSC 29.97, then the de-interlaced output is 23.976
only if deinterlacer falg it as to ivtc, or you manually select FILM or Decimating
moreover for 29.97->23.976 isn't to specify field order
in 0.96 will be added a "safe" deinteralcer, it will be the same procedure as Auto deinterlacer, but with a low threashold, so deinterlacer will be easily triggered

How is the .96 version coming along?

I've got a DXVA question re: H264 trans-codes with AutoMKV.
I have some video I'm transcoding, it's DVD, soft-telecined, progressive content at 16:9. I'm using x264 with CRQ-20, no resize.
If I choose "Force Muxing DAR" to be 16:9, the video will not support DXVA using MPC-HC and it's internal decoder.
If I choose "Auto" for the "Force Muxing DAR" option, then the DXVA is supported, but the aspect ratio comes out at 1.50:1, instead of 16:9.
I posted over in the MPC-HC thread too, I hate to cross-post, but I'm not sure where the problem lies.
I'm using AutoMKV .95D and MPC-HC build 460 and the latest version of ReClock. ATI HD2600 XT, CCC 8.3.

@noee
please post a log, of this case
If I choose "Auto" for the "Force Muxing DAR" option, then the DXVA is supported, but the aspect ratio comes out at 1.50:1, instead of 16:9.

I meant to offer congratulations earlier on your new addition. I too recently have a new little boy. A wonderful joy, to be sure.
Okay, here's the log. I tested this one again, DXVA works but the aspect ratio shows as 1.50:1 in the Haali Splitter Property Page and MPC-HC in "default" shows it the same. You'll note this run included a trim(0,8000).

Hi, buzzqw. Hope you're getting some sleep:-)
When do you think the subtitles/missing mkv issue will be fixed? Not a huge deal, but I just ran across it again with Fanny and Alexander, and now I have pretty much only subtitled movies left to rip. It broke with the previous buid, I think.
Here is the old link: http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?p=1097010#post1097010

Hmmm, I never selected anything, I thought that was all coming from DGIndex?
Anyway, here is the log with "Anamorphic" checked, "Force Muxed DAR" = Auto.

BTW, note that I'm using an "M2V" as the input. This was created with the PGCDemux tool. Not sure if that matters or not.
HTH, Thanks.

Can you post your resmovie.avs files?
Do you get an error if you open resmovie.avs in virtualdubmod?
Strangely on your second log post there is over 5 1/2 hours gap between resize testing commencing and the error being thrown. :confused:

in 0.96 will be added a "safe" deinteralcer, it will be the same procedure as Auto deinterlacer, but with a low threashold, so deinterlacer will be easily triggeredThis is great. I'm looking forward to testing it. I have a few of these "stubborn" DVD's.

Feature Request: The ability to load a specific chapters file (rather than being forced to use \AutoMKV\exe\chapters.txt) with the reference to the file saved and reloaded from the queueX.ini file. This would enable me to use a different chapter set for each job placed into the queue. Presently I'm stuck with only using one set of chapters per queue when processing my DVB captures.
Even leaving the queue aside it would enable me to have a pre-set selection of chapter files that I can easily chose from depending upon the length of my DVB source. E.g. presently I have the following text files saved for cut and paste use:
- fixed 5 min chapters: 0 - 40 mins (for std TV series)
- fixed 5 min chapters: 0 - 45 mins (for slightly longer TV series)
- fixed 10 min chapters: 0 - 2hr 30 mins (for movies - edit length to suit)

@zacoz
... done :)
you must create your chapters file with chapter editor (copy&paste from your sample) and then save where you want.
Adding this to queue will save your chapter position

When I try to encode TS files I have captured from my HD satellite card (h264) I get a message "no video sequence header found", "check PIDs". I seem to only have 1 PID to choose from though. Any idea what I can do to sort this out ? Thanks.

DgIndex does not support h264!

17th March 2008, 08:28
@JonRead
It might be worth attempting to demux the TS file first and then feed the separate video, audio & subtitle files into AutoMKV. This is what I do with my DVB mpeg2 broadcasts as I also edit them to remove ads as part of the process.
Not sure whether this gets around Atak_Snajpera's observation or not.

Atak_Snajpera is correct!
you must wait next update (that will include dgavcdec) or, using 0.95c, check "Use DSS for A/V"

Couldn't tell you how many times I've tried taking h.264 .ts file and encoding to MKV, only to have this stop me. I still haven't figured out how to use dgavcdec to demux it and then save the seperate audio and video streams. Hopefully this will all be built in and automated in 0.96

i did a first install of AutoMKV095_NORIP, dependencies and the 'c' update. on every encode, i got an informational or warning dialog:
"xvid_encraw.exe
Unable To Locate DLL. The dynamic link library MSVCP80.dll could not be found in the specified path <path_for_the_user_i'm_running_as>."
the dialog has an OK button only. after clicking it, encoding would continue and finish successfully.
i found msvcp80.dll in C:\Program Files\AutoMKV 0\exe\Matroska\ on my system and added this directory to the path variable, which fixed the warning.
i noticed that automkv adds directories to the path variable dynamically and think the ..\Matroska\ directory needs to be added, too.

Hi,
I posted earlier about seeing a bunch of motion artefacts on an encode I'd done from a PAL DVD of a TV episode (Flight of the Conchords). Anyway, I took the suggestion of selecting HQ DeInt and while that certainly improved things the problem is still there. I also tried manually selecting Interlaced in the Deinterlacing dropdown box and specifying TFF (which is what DGIndex said). That didn't really make much of a difference. I'm scratching my head over this one and would be grateful for any suggestions.
I don't know if you need it or not, but here's the log...

-- Virtually all DVDs of TV shows (especially cartoons) are hybrids.
I also note that Roscoe's DVD is a PAL; if it's a PAL of a US or Japanese show, odds are very high that it's a cheap "tinny" (23.976 fps sped up to 25fps) release. The way to fix those is Advanced Profiles Editing > Change FPS > Assume FPS > 24000,1001. Encode the video without audio. Then extract the audio and re-time it using BeSweetGUI's built-in converter.

So I have a weird problem and I have looked around and I cant find the answer for it. I have been archiving my Family Guy and Futurma DVDs to 720x480 mkv files. I have just now noticed that for some reason the aspect ratio on the finished rips is 1.5. So even though is supposed to be full screen for some reason it not. There are black bars along the top and the bottom.
For my settings I am using the following:
http://jason28.shackspace.com/Basic%20Settings.JPG
http://jason28.shackspace.com/Advanced%20Settings.JPG
Anyone see anything weird in there that would cause this to happen? Also I haven't made any changes to anything else on the other tabs.

@jason288
What is the display aspect ratio of the source?
You've chosen to use a width selection of "Original" which in fact uses both the original width and the original height - I'm guessing 720 x 480. If your source has an DAR greater than 1.5 (and you've chosen Original) then you must tick "Anamorphic Encoding" on the Advanced Settings tab. There's actually a message that appears in the status bar at the bottom to recommend this in such cases.
You may also wish to try width selection of either "Autocrop" or "720" which will apply the correct DAR (you can still chose anamorphic if you want). "Autocrop" will do as you might guess an autocrop of any black bars (and if necessary a slight resize to meet MOD4 I believe) - you'll likely end up with a width of say 716 (and a height appropriate for your source DAR). With "720" it will crop any black bars and resize to an exact 720 width (and a height appropriate for your source DAR).
If your shows are widescreen and you don't have an exact matching DAR widescreen TV/monitor then it's likely you will still have black bars top and bottom though, as to fill the screen completely would require changing the DAR - you'd likely end up with a picture stretched incorrectly in one direction.

Awesome...
I never considered fixing PAL movies in this way... I should imagine that 90% of all DVD's were actually shot at 24 fps (sped-up or telecined to 25 fps).
The space saving is minimal but the result is more original and correct.

I have an job that appears to be failing during the video encode and I'm not sure why.
Edit: Some background. This was ripped by chapter with DVDFab, only chapters 1-5 (those needed for the episode) were taken. One language track and one subtitle track were removed from the original.

Actually, I already overwrote those temp files. :p
I set up a d2v of the episode and used that for input instead. The job finished fine. So I'll have to wait till the next time I try using the IFO as input. I did notice on the first frame or two when I was making the d2v, I got frames saying "Content removed by DVDFab" so maybe there was some issue with the first VOB file.
I have a different question now. The project encoded but my media player does not recognize the aspect ratio on it's own. It reads the "derived" AR as 4:3, and the "source" as 16:10. The correct AR is 16:9. Is there a setting I need to check on the Advanced tab so the media player wont be confused as to what it is?

when dealying with no resize, please check Anamorphic Encoding on advanced settings, OR use Force Mux DAR
without cropping automkv don't know exactly how to set AR
EDIT: fixed in next update!

According to the wiki (http://automkv.a.wiki-site.com/index.php/Profiles), you have to turn on Anamorphic encoding to get the Force Mux DAR to do anything. I had already run a job on a short test d2v I made, only setting Force MUX but not Anamorphic encode, I got a VERY stretched (horizontally) picture.
What should I do if I have resizing on? I just tried with resizing and the final movie never came out. Running again at original with Anamorph + Force DAR to see if that works.
Edit: Nope. Still very stretched out.

You are quite right... an 1 hour 40 minute movie would merely be 4 minutes longer (filesize unchanged).
Increasingly, 2:2:2:2:2:2:2:2:2:2:2:3 pulldown (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Telecine#2:2:2:2:2:2:2:2:2:2:2:3_pulldown) is being used to telecine 24fps film -> 25fps PAL and these movies could also benefit from a little reworking (IVTC (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Telecine#Reverse_telecine_.28a.k.a._IVTC.2Finverse_telecine.29)) ... eventhough the benefit is quite small (1/25 decrease in filesize).
This kind of telecine is generally used where sound quality is important... the faster frame speed causes a slightly noticeable increase in audio pitch (about 1 semitone (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Semitone)).
It's the right thing to do !
