So Zakia, it worked! I do not understand why or what the process was involved in remuxing these files but I now have a 26.7GB ts file that plays beautifully in PowerDVD and in Crystal Player (my new favourite).

However, when I try to load the file in AutoGK or VideoRedo I am told that no video streams are found. If I look at the file in Mediainfo it gives no video information yet obviously the video is there.

User Pelican9 wrote a nice Blu-Ray structure editor called BDEdit. You can use it to figure out the order of the files in the main movie, but it is a tedious process. See thread http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?t=125903 for more info. After you know the order you can use the "copy /b file1.ts+file2.ts+...+fileN.ts output.ts" to combine them into one big file.

Thx dmz01. Oh for a pgc.net-like solution?

Video Redo is an MPEG-2 only program, Deja Vu is VC-1 so not surprised it don't work.

I thought I would share my hard won experience of the last few months working with Blu-Ray discs.

Working from Blu-Ray source my objective is to store full resolution/quality movie files on my hard disk which can then be played directly to my 1080p HDTV.

I have developed a reasonably effective solution for this through experimentation and discussion on this and other forums. The best example of success that I can give is "Layer Cake" which I ripped using DVD FAB Platinum 4 (although I am now preferring AnyDVD) to m2ts files in the STREAM folder. I then used Tsremux to select the obviously biggest m2ts file and remux it to a 21.7GB ts file which I can play in PowerDVD, Crystal (my favourite) or even WMP11.

The killer though is that I then used AutoGK to convert to a specified 100% quality, full 1920 x 1080 Xvid avi file of 8.5GB which, to my eyes, looks superb and plays in anything.

I want to achieve this result throughout my library of Blu-Ray movies.

I see that a sort of trend has developed in that mkv files are being used to store 720p HD material. I don' t really understand why or what benefit mkv offers over avi. Does anyone have any views on this?

One difficulty is understanding the Blu-Ray programme chain (pgc) or order in which they m2ts files have to be played. In many releases there is just one huge m2ts file of 15GB + and it is obvious. In some there are two or three m2ts files but increasingly there can be up to a dozen m2ts files of from 2GB to 5GB each. For instance with "Deja Vu", I only succeeded because I was given the sequence in a COPY command as:
copy /b 00048.m2ts + 00049.m2ts + 00035.m2ts + 00037.m2ts + 00039.m2ts + 00061.m2ts + 00032.m2ts + 00034.m2ts + 00046.m2ts + 00036.m2ts + 00038.m2ts + 00040.m2ts + 00041.m2ts "DejaVu.m2ts"
Now how can that sequence be understood? And I do not understand why I had to run this through Tsremux twice to get the required result. I have been referred to a programme called BDedit http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?t=125903 or it has been suggested that it is best just to google the programme chain for each title. Any further input to this issue would be appreciated.
There are other issues though with which I would appreciate any input/advice/observations:
1. The general principal of what I am doing and the tools I am using. For instance, I suspect that VirtualDubMod could be a good component in this. I have very little experience with it. My 8.5GB achievement with Layer Cake seems to me to be an ideal compromise for quality/size. Personally I believe that optical storage is too fragile and virtually dead except for distribution (and better broadband sppeds will soon finish that)/. I have 8.4TB of hard disks and 8/.5GB seems a reasonable size for a top quality movie to me.

2. Problems with ts files. Using exactly the same tools/settings I have some ts files which when I try to load them in to AutoGK say "no video stream present" when clearly there is a video stream in the file and I can play it. For instance, here is MediaInfo on Layer Cake (giving video info) and MediaInfo on Goodfellas (giving no video info) - both ts files were arrived at by exactly the same method. 3. Problems with audio streams. I don't understand how to get the correct audio stream. For instance, in Flyboys (where, happily, there is one 28GB m2ts file) there are DTS-HD Master, DTS1, DTS2 and Dolby Digital streams. I can't seem to avoid the director's commentary!!

OK, first up, this thread is supposed to be about the TSRemux application and you might be best off starting your own thread as most of this isn't anything to do with TSRemux. But anyway, the above statement I have to disagree with. You're taking 30GB or so file and re-encoding it down to an 8.5GB file and claiming 100% quality - I'm sorry but that is ridiculous. The only way to maintain 100% quality is to not touch the video in anyway aside from remuxing into different containers. It may well look superb on your setup but don't believe you're maintaing 100% quality.

Just sign up at www.abhdtv.net and things like this are posted there. The only BR's I can think of I've seen like this are Deja Vu, Ratatouille and Black Hawk Down (only in 2 parts anyway) so I'm not sure about it being a growing trend.

You need to understand what codec the video is encoded in, Blu-Ray's can come in any one of 3 flavours, MPEG-2, VC-1 or AVC (h.264). Layer Cake is MPEG-2 so traditional tools will recognise the video but Goodfellas is VC-1 so that's why MediaInfo doesn't recognise the video.

The lossless audio stream will always be the main one, so DTS-HD Master. Director's commentary's are always in my experience in Dolby Digital. Try looking at the specs of the disc on www.highdefdigest.com and work it out from there.

Used tsremux yesterday to remux a movie and DolbyTrueHD to DD. It works. Great. Thanks for that.

But one question again:
DD is in 448k now. Is ist possible that tsremux make a 640k DD as standard? Every old dd-decoder can handle that.
Regards,
Dirk

Remember that TsRemux does not re-compress anything. It uses whatever is in the stream originally. If the embedded DD inside the TrueHD stream is 448k then that's what you will get.

Good morning Folks...

I entered the last days into the world of Blu Ray Reauthoring, HD DVD converting and so on. During my Google-sessions i found TSremux.
I have some questions about this great program.
I tried to remux a HD DVD to a Blu Ray-Structure to view it on my PS3. It was the 16 Blocks HD-DVD with VC-1 picture stream and a DD+ with 640 kbps audio stream.
First issue was...i was not able to open this EVO-file with tsremus 0.0.19. CPU-load increases to 100% and memory usage to 900 MB!!! ("Bypass" checked and "use async I/O" dechecked).
tsremux 0.0.18 opened this EVO-file without any problems.
I tried a remux with the video and the german audio stream to a Blu Ray compliant structure. I canceled the progress after a few minutes to get the chance to burn this structure to a DVD+RW disc. I tried to play this disc on my PS3 but it didn`t work.
The video was just stuttering and there was no audio playback.
What could be the problem?? On my PC the "Blu Ray" plays fine.

First up DD+ from an HD-DVD isn't compatible with BR. Secondly I don't think, and please others correct me if I'm wrong, you can just remux straight from a HD-DVD to a BR, there's differences between the formats which mean this isn't simple.

Will TSremux 0.0.19 allow me to remux MKV(VC-1,Flac) to MPEG-TS(VC-1,Flac)? or is the latest version of TSremux still not stable enough to perform this task.

Yes. The overhead comes from all the headers of the small 192 byte packets.

olivierdb, NO... you could put flac in a .ts as a private stream, but i bet at this point in time, nothing demux it out of the .ts and get it to the flac decoder..., were still waiting on haali to add trueHD

flac is a unrecognized format by the "REAL world"

Hi,

Yes. The overhead comes from all the headers of the small 192 byte packets.

Wow, that sucks. So the maximum bitrate of a bluray-DVD9 is much lower than a HDDVD-DVD9...

What I find a bit confusing, though is the following:
I did some more testing today and authored both a HDDVD and a Bluray from the same source VC-1 and AC3 files.

The resulting Bluray is 8.724.509.984 Bytes.
The resulting HDDVD is 8.238.717.929 Bytes.

Still a lot of overhead, but not as much as converting the EVO with Tsremux to Bluray, which results in 9.229.802.076 Bytes.

Do you also have a PS3 or a standalone blu ray player for your playback?? Can you test it??

I just did (converted the EVO to M2TS, burned it and tryed it in PS3), it plays, but stutters like hell (it´s like 2fps playback).

The same elementary VC-1/AC3 streams authored as bluray, then run through TSRemux, burned and played in the PS3 work like a charm. So it´s not the VC1 or AC3 streams which causes the problem...

Nas

Could you explain this to me??
How do you authored a bluray?

My procedure was always:
- load EVO to tsremux
- choose video and audio stream
- output format: bluray
- burn on DVD
--> stuttering playback

Tested with VC-1/DD+, VC-1/DTS-HD

AVC without audio works well with the previous procedure...

EDIT:
- AVC w/o audio track plays fine
- AVC/DD+ 5.1 video plays smooth, but no audio playback <-- different DD+ encoding for bluray and hddvd
- AVC/DD+ 2.0 video plays smooth, audio playback is stuttering

--> AVC with DTS HD (i think the encoding for DTS HD for bluray and hddvd should be the same) could work...

Hi,

I am lucky to know someone with access to professional authoring software...

Here´s a guide to authoring a BDMV disc with sonic scenarist, maybe that helps:

Link (http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showthread.php?p=12369935#post12369935)

Keep in mind that the PS3 doesn´t play BDMV-authored discs on DVD5/9, but running the final BDMV-created M2TS file through Tsremux works fine...
But there are so many steps involved in this procedure, I would rather like to see tsremux be able to remux the evo to bluray directly.

Make sure you have "bypass audio processing" unchecked. The audio has to be processed or aligned when going from VOB/EVO to M2TS. There are other issues as well that I'm currently working on, so please report your findings here.

So I'm still a little confused. Please anyone, try to answer the following =

1. Can tsremux take in any HD-DVD evo (with either AVC or VC1 video) and process to get an m2ts that plays from XMB on PS3. I've read conflicting reports, author says it takes evo in, but evo's are from HD-DVDs that are not compatible with Blu-ray in any way, even HD-DVD elementary video streams are not compatible (29.97 vs 23.976), true??

2. Can tsremux take in an m2ts originally from a BR disk that's been VC1/AVC encoded and get a usable remuxed m2ts output to play from XMB on PS3? My answer, no,(if it's VC1), yes, (if it's AVC), true??

Thanks for a great program and keep on developing!

Read the first post so you know what this tool can/cannot do and what features it offers. Always read the first post of any tool thread is a good rule.

Your best option right now is to use existing mux tools to create a TS file first. Then you can run it through tsremux to create an m2ts file. Existing tools like Manzanita and XMuxer allow you to mux h264 and mpeg2 video elementary streams with audio streams, like ac3 and dts, into a ts container.

I haven't tried this, but version 4 of Manzanita allows you to specify the packet size. This is 188 by default for standard transport streams. The m2ts type uses 192-byte size. You may be able to just specify this packet size and rename your result to m2ts. Anyone tried this with Manzanita btw?

The other option is to mux into an MKV container and then remux into an m2ts, but the MKV support right now is in the alpha stage.

i tried specifying the 192 packet size with manzanita with hopes it would play on PS3. No luck there, even after I ran it again through TSremux.

I'm having trouble getting H264 and a converted LPCM to AC3 to remux back together from a BD-rip. I extract video/audio with TSremux (as elementary) then convert audio to .AC3 - Been trying so many times with no luck to remux them back. manzanita will give me a larger .TS (which plays with no audio on ps3) as soon as I remux that .TS to .M2ts with tsremux PS3 refuses to play it.. same thing as when I remove null packets. Problem is PS3 only plays audio with .M2TS files, not .TS files - I've been using TSremux to convert my .TS's to .M2TS with great success.. Just not with a BD-remux.

Xmuxer is useless takes 4 days to remux and while the resulting file plays on PS3, there are pausing and speed up slow down, making it unwatchable.

The application must also be compiled with debugging
enabled.

For example:

<configuration>
<system.windows.forms jitDebugging="true" />
</configuration>

When JIT debugging is enabled, any unhandled exception
will be sent to the JIT debugger registered on the computer
rather than be handled by this dialog box.

Hope you can make something of all this (it's like Chinese to me!).

mkv input insnt fully supported yet (speaking for DMZ) and it may never be

not to mention what the flac (a pointless format)
is going to do for you in a .ts
is anything able to demux that for playback and get it to the flac decoder?

also whats wrong with it in the mkv... keep it there :)

Doesn't really matter. File extensions are only really to help Windows decide what application to use to open the file. Call them whatever you want, doesn't change the data in the file.

i wanted to know extensions so i can test out the files in windows to test for any problems i.e. choppy playback or wrong languages for sound etc.

Like I say, it doesn't matter what extension you choose to use. Call them file.fred if you want. Doesn't stop you opening the files up in whatever application you want to test them with in Windows.

tested that out, works ok with dolby digital files, renaming ac3 files, but isn't working with other extracted audio files like dts-hd audio.
Didnt think it was a media player problem because when its wrapped in a .ts file the audio still plays.

Excellent piece of software :) However two improvements that would be great for Blu-Ray output would be:
Cloning of Chapter bookmarks, and
Working subtitles.

I would be sooo happy if those features were implemented :) You would really make my day, and I'd certainly make a donation for all your hard work :)

Hi

Thanks again for this excellent software

Sorry to sound dim, but how exactly do i get the embedded ac3 audio from the true hd track. Im trying to do this with Blade Runner Final Cut.

1) load m2ts into tsremux
2) tick box Blu-Ray THD to ac3
3) tick THD stream
4) ???

I tried demuxing to elementary stream but this gave me a 3.13Gb file which was the same size as the THD stream

Thx in advance for any replies

how are you guys able to load EVO files into TSremux? Everytime I try loading anything from a movie to just a trailer all I get is this:

It just sits there like that.

dmz,

I think 0.19 has a bug that was not in 0.19.

0.19:
I load .TS file and select Blu-ray option, then burn to DVD+RW.
PS3 plays video but no sound.

0.18:
I load .TS file and select Blu-ray option, then burn to DVD+RW.
PS3 plays video and sound.

DMZ,
Do you plan on adding a feature to Tsremux that will convert the DTS HD MA to DTS like you have incorporated the Dolby Truehd to AC3? I know it would help many of us out with some of those discs that just have DTS HD MA (Pan's Labyrinth for example, and all of the older Fox titles). I know I can go the Eac3to route, but that is much more difficult (my skills with line commands are weak at best) and time consuming. The Truehd to AC3 feature you added works great. Thanks.

this app does NOT convert!!!
its takes existing streams, and remuxes them into a new one

the truehd doesnt convert anything, the ac3 stream is in the truehd stream...

amazing how much confusion on this application there is

keep up the good work, i say focus on existing bugs, before anything new :)

thanks dmz... i use it alot and very happy (v 0.18)
