OK, I uninstalled the OGGDS 0.9.9.5 and installed CoreVorbis 1.1 2005-07-09 and now it works! So I'm happy now.

This may be a problem of CoreWavPack (http://corecodec.org/frs/?group_id=54&release_id=103) and not a problem of Haali's splitter, but something is wrong when playing MKV with an A_WAVPACK4 audio track, if the audio ends before video.

If the audio is MP3, video goes normally to the very end even after the audio ends, but if the audio is WavPack, the video stops (or stutters) in the middle, when the audio ends.

Anyone can reproduce this problem?

Demo.
SoC_[XviD+WavPack+MP3]-007.mkv (http://www.faireal.org/tmp/SoC_%5bXviD+WavPack+MP3%5d-007.mkv) 2.1MB 16sec

Thanks in advance :)

This is a generic DShow problem. When the audio track ends, the graph clock provided by audio renderer stops ticking.

I just concatened 4 files in one (RV10+HE-AAC) and when i want to switch concatened files, MPC crashes (error in drcv.dll). I have other ones with x264 video and there's no problem while switching :s

Haali, but it works if the audio is MP3 Vorbis FLAC TTA etc.
Why only WavPack?

Altho, perhaps easily I could come up with a workaround by padding audio.

Sorry if this is an already heavily discussed issue... But I'm experiencing seeking problems with the 1.6.87.20 (25/02/2006) build of Matroska Splitter when seeking in MP4 files. I'm guessing it's probably B-frame related, but alll I know is that when I use the Trim() function in Avisynth, I don't always get the final frame range that I wanted.

To clarify: I'll load an MP4 clip as video1, then I'll load the source AVI file as video2... I'll stack them vertically in Avisynth. If I don't do any Trim() operations on the MP4 clip, the videos aligned perfectly. However, the moment I try to trim to, say, the second half of the MP4 clip - the video gets offset by 1 frame.

Can anyone suggest a workaround that would work with all MP4 videos?

DirectShow cannot do frame accurate seeking. It doesn't expose frame numbers, but timestamps. If you want to use DirectShowSource() and do e.g. a PSNR comparison, you should *always* check if the two sources are aligned.

I have a lot of problem with the haali splitter in my mkv: lack of sync between audio and video, bad and slow seeking.

My mkv files are working very well with the gabest splitter.

But the haali splitter is great for mp4 files.

So is there a possibility to register the haali only for mp4 and let the gabest for mkv?
Gabest splitter is also better integrated in the players, e.g. TCMP I am using for some years now.

Moreover, I was disburbed to see that the haali media splitter package is called MastroskaSpltter which is the name of the gabest splitter on mastroska.org. It should be called HaaliMediaSplitter because it is also far more than a mkv splitter

@Eric B
Haali's splitter is great for Theora.ogg too.
What you are asking is possible (and easy) btw... You can just uninstall and re-install Haali's Splitter, when you can tick the specific checkboxes as you like (EDIT: Note that it'd be also possible to use Gabest's MP4Splitter for MP4 while using Haali's Splitter for MKV). You migth want to re-register Gabest's filter after that just in case.

I've tried that, but it does not work. The haali is still used although I disabled it and registered the gabest splitter!

Liisachan

@Eric B: You get that problem with any player, especially with GraphEdit too?

I can reproduce the similar pb only on MPC and only when MPC's internal splitter is disabled. In that case Haali's filter is loaded for MKV while it is supposed to be disabled when installed. This might be MPC's own pb. I can see this is annoying.

But I can open .mp4 and .mkv at the same time using 2 GraphEdits, .mp4 is loaded via Haali, mkv via Gabest, as they are supposed to be...

I've tried different install/uninstall / registry cleanup and updated my players.
I still do not have a correct seeking under my mkv containing AVC video.

I ve registred the gabest filter after the installation of the haali one (unckecking as you said), and it is working for everything else than AVC, i.e. other MKV videos (ASP) are playing well with the Gabest filter. But not for AVC since Gabest filter cannot connect to CoreAVC. (confirmed by Graphedit)

Haali is working well with mp4.

So, as I did not find a perfect solution, I will simply abandon the MKV container for AVC video and stay by MP4.

Eric B, your directshow filters are probably pretty messed up, if we consider what you wrote in that other post (http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?t=99033). It would be better to reinstall Windows if you don't know what to do to fix it, as avc in mkv definitely works as seen in so many files.

Liisachan

But not for AVC since Gabest filter cannot connect to CoreAVC. (confirmed by Graphedit) MatroskaSplitter->CoreAVC connects for me. How about trying ffdshow just in case? If that doesn't work either, CoreAVC is not responsible, so it might help to narrow down the problem.

Eric B

Yes, it must come from my installation. I
Yes, my windows sucks. Too old now (3 years!!), but I do not have the courrage and the time to reinstall everything. So I stay with my work-arround solution: avc only in mp4

I ve reinstalled ffdshow by specifing h264. When I open a mkv without AVC, it uses the MatroskaSplitter. Otherwise, it still uses the Haali splitter and then connect it to ffdshow now instead of CoreAVC.

MPC is funny in that, when the internal splitter is disabled, it uses the settings under HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Media Type\{e436eb83-524f-11ce-9f53-0020af0ba770}\{49952F4C-3EDC-4A9B-8906-1DE02A3D4BC2} even if another matroska splitter has a higher merit. You have to change the source filter classid listed under the above key. MPC will not honor the source filter classid listed under HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Media Type\Extensions\.mkv if it is different. My personal observation is that other directshow programs will honor the source filter classid listed under the .mkv registry key. MPC has to be different for some reason.

Confirmed. So I think its not Haali's pb.
I reported it in the MPC thread where Gabest seems to be lurking.

WavPack Hybrid is decoded wrongly ("doubly") thru Haali's splitter 25/02/2006

This is not really a big problem, because practically nobody wants to store WV+WVC in MKA (as he/she can just use it Lossless WV in that case), but I'd like to report it anyway.

Let's say the music is "ABCD" then the splitter will pass it to the decoder as "AABBCCDD" and CoreWavpack thinks it's in Lossy Mode, not Hybrid Mode. If the input has 736628 samples, output will be 1473256 samples, exactly double.

Can anyone confirm?

hybrid.mka (http://www.minkymomo.info/~meroko_deathnote/tmp/WavPack/Rock_in_this_Pocket/hybrid.mka) 1.8 MB

RitP.wav (http://www.minkymomo.info/~meroko_deathnote/tmp/WavPack/Rock_in_this_Pocket/RitP.wav) Original 2.8MB

These are ok with Corewavpack (http://www.minkymomo.info/~meroko_deathnote/tmp/WavPack/Rock_in_this_Pocket/CoreWavPack-setup_1.0.3.exe):
hybrid.wv (http://www.minkymomo.info/~meroko_deathnote/tmp/WavPack/Rock_in_this_Pocket/hybrid.wv) + hybrid.wvc (http://www.minkymomo.info/~meroko_deathnote/tmp/WavPack/Rock_in_this_Pocket/hybrid.wvc)

This might be a muxer-side pb (mkvmerge), but output of mkvinfo (http://www.minkymomo.info/~meroko_deathnote/tmp/WavPack/Rock_in_this_Pocket/mkvinfo_hybrid.mka.txt) looks normal.

With this version and using silent install switch "/s", the program group is not set to "Haali Media Splitter". Instead the shortcuts are created in the root of start menu.

@haali: can u change this again?

MP4: "no supported tracks found" Haali error msg.

Nobody posted a fix for it yet?
I get it when playing Quicktime files in Zoom Player using Quicktime Alt 1.70. Haali pops up. I click OK and it plays the clip fine. No error in MPC but I have a preference for ZP.

EDIT: Found out it does not give the error if I tick "Use QuickTime ActiveX Component to play QuickTime files (Otherwise try DirectShow)" in ZP Filter Control, Settings.

thx for the update:

# 26/10/2006 [General] Various small splitter bugfixes and improvements. Added support for cuesheets and subtitles to dsmux (requires Gabest's Subtitle Source filter). Added an option to disable error messages, the splitter will silently fail on invalid/unsupported files. Thumbnails are now extracted in a separate process, so buggy codecs should no longer affect the host application. [Matroska] Much improved mkv2vfr utility now handles AVC video and correctly writes AVI files larger than 2GB, it is now included in the splitter package. [OGM] Added support for a couple of other ancient versions of the format. [DXR] A couple of bugfixes.

Great, combined with the separate process (or thread, not sure) that Vista uses for thumbnailing, I have no problem recommending that explorer thumbnailing be re-enabled for ffdshow.

One question, Haali. Does the thumbnailing use a cache, or is it recalculated every time? (I'd check myself, but I'm still trying to get the thumbnailing working; I'm sure I disabled something at one point or another.)

Possibly Haali's and ShellExt don't mix well. on my win2k, Matroska Shell Extension v2.8 is better anyway. At least it shows an attached Jpeg (if it exists) as its thumbnail. After installing the new one from Haali, Explorer again freezes easily. Even if it doesn't freeze, thumbnails are messed up. For instance, if I have 1.mkv, 2.mkv, ... , 5.mkv in the same folder, the thumbnail from one of them (let's say a pic from 1.mkv) is used for thumbnails of other mkvs too. Can't it show the attached JPEG if it exists, like Shell Extension v2.8 or foobar2000?

EDIT
I thought Explorer froze, but it's working again now after waiting for a few minutes. This is better than the prev version.

EDIT2
Maybe I should uninstall Matroska Shell Extension v2.8. Things are not working properly after updating Haali splitter.

I was curious does anyone have thumbnails working under XP MCE 2005 ?

My XP box works perfectly with thumbnails enabled but in MCE I get no thumbnails in explorer or in the MCE user interface. All I get in the MCE UI are black thumbnails and in explorer no thumbnails at all.

The version on both machines is 1.6.224.23, ffdshow is the decoder for the H.264/AAC content in the mkv files (encoded via MeGUI).

Is there some sort of incompatibility with MCE or is it just my setup ?

Thanks.

By mistake, i installed an older version of the splitter, which didn't support thumbnail extraction.
From then, it's impossible to make it work again : i uninstalled the old version, rebooted, installed new one, thumbnail still did'nt work ; so i disabled it in options, rebooted, re-enabled it, still did'nt work. Wanted to try MSE thumbnail extraction, didn't work any more either :/ ; enabled/disabled it lots of time (via its control panel), no way to make it work.

Is there a way to fix this problem ? via regedit or another method ? I was used to see beautiful thumbnails of my mkv files and now it's desperatly empty :p

Do you have thumbnails on simple avi or mpg files (assuming you don't use Haali's splitter for avi files too) ? If you don't then at some point you might have disabled video thumbnails by unregistering shmedia.dll.

Windows Media player on the same setup works perfectly.

My trouble seems that when starting a .mkv file from MCE, the Haali Media Splitter does not start, and MCE fails to play the file.

I did not have this problem om the same build of MCE on the 32 bit plattform.

Any suggestions?
