Bug report for HMS 1.9.355.21:

- The installer registers all splitters regardless of what's been chosen during setup.
- It associates MKV and MKA files with WMP even when told not to.
- When uninstalling HMS it just deletes the files instead of unregistering them before.
- Not a bug per se but it would still be nice to make the renderer an optional component.

This has been tested on a clean install of XP SP3.

TrueHD in M2TS and TS (untouched and remuxed))doesnt work with latest Haali. Only the AC3 Core comes out from Haali and it stutters.
But the remuxed Stream into mkv works fine and is decoded as TrueHD. Remuxed TrueHD/MLP Audio in MKA works fine too now :)

HMS doesn't want to open certain M2TS files. Graphedit spits out an error saying "Unspecified error (Return code: 0x80004005)". Previous versions of HMS worked fine.

Works with both versions: http://stfcc.org/misc/00000.cut.m2ts
Doesn't work with the newest version: http://stfcc.org/misc/theoffice.cut.m2ts

I wonder if this happens on Win 7 too.

It does.

It does.

Damn. :(

Edit: Snowknight26, let me see if I understand: during install you do not select "avi", but then you play an avi file and Haali's media splitter is used ? Or is the filter simply registered but is not used during playback ?

Are we going to see a fixed installer, or is the installer ok and the previously reported issue is not true ? Because if the issue is true, it's a serious problem.

I can't comment on that one - I was only agreeing to the 2nd point I quoted.

Ok, I've tested it myself.

Even when I uncheck MP4 and MPEG-TS/PS, Haali takes over when decoding them. Now, about MP4 that doesn't seem to be an issue because Haali handles MP4 files pretty well, but when it comes to MPEG-PS splitting I'm now unable to play files because Haali's splitter breaks on them.

This is seriously bad. I have not tested the uninstaller part, but if the files get deleted before being unregistered, I feel bad about the people that don't know how to recover from that in case their playback gets broken. Really, what is up with this release of the splitter ? Isn't it safer to just take it down until these issues are addressed ?

Could this be due the installer

By default it selects TS/PS correct? If that is the case why dont you just not check them off as part of the install?

I did uncheck them. That's what the problem is.

haali splitter always scans contents of files in current folder upon launching an .mkv video... which takes a few seconds since there could be 50 or 300 episodes in many shows. And the file does NOT contain segment-linking headers or ordered chapters (my file has no chapters at all actually).

I thought this was addressed a year ago, but alas it wasn't.

I have not even tried to install the new version. Can anyone else confirm the issue?

I did uncheck them. That's what the problem is.

I thought this was addressed a year ago, but alas it wasn't.

Turn it off in the splitter options, its under Input and the option is "Try to open linked files". I found out cos my media center has hundreds of MKV's and i also was getting the same problem and very high memory usage, but turning the option to "No" fixed this.

toytown, I have many linked series (ordered chapters), so there's no way I would want to turn it off. Anyway it's an extremely easy to fix bug.

another haali's splitter peculiarity: mkv Aspect Ratio.
e.g. I have a 1440x800 mkv with 16:9 AR set in mkv header. It should play at 1440x810, but when haali splitter is used in MPCHC, it is decoded to 1536x800 with strange AR (4551:2560) then gets rescaled by renderer (any of them) to the correct AR & size, however when an internal MPCHC's matroska is used the video is decoded as source is (1440x800) and is passed to renderer with mkv-specified AR (16:9). And though the result is the same but the quality degrades due to redundant resizing.

Yet it seems that maybe both MPCHC's video decoder (FF libavcodec) and CoreAVC are to blame, because the only vital difference between MPCHC's splitter OUT-pin and haali's is:
biXPelsPerMeter: 0 (Haali: AR correction numerator, 81 in my case)
biYPelsPerMeter: 0 (Haali: AR correction denominator, 80 in my case)

Hi robUx4

Is there a chance that the haali splitter can handle more than 32 tracks inside?

Many blurays have a lot of audio files and subtitle files and i want to keep all tracks.

This is just me or haali splitter still refusing to split AC3-in-MP4?

No, still not working with standard compliant AC3-in-MP4.

Have a problem with Haali Media Splitter:

Haali seems to have the problem that there is only one audiostream possible when playing a .m2ts to choose in I ve noticed that this is always the audio commentary. Is there a way to fix this? Are you guys also you the MPC-HC internal MPEG/TS splitter instead of the Haali splitter?

mikelebron

Stick with Gabest splitter right now.. Haali (at least the January build) has a ton of issues.. if you must us the Haali splitter then use the december build.

Honestly, the Gabest splitter for me has been the most stable..

Haali (at least the January build)
??? January 2009, or are you referring to a new beta? The Dec. 2009 release was a disapointment, imho. :( It really should be bug-free by now.

talking about latest beta January 2010... December is far more stable and functional.. yea its unfortunate and very surprising... Seems the development at this point is just an after thought.. it really should be passed on to someone else who can dedicate the time... (though what happened to that "closed beta for only special people" - no one gave feedback?)

^^same for me. not that I want to be ungrateful, but if the changes are really as unsignificant as this, you might as well stop working on the splitter.

or you could just stop posting nonsense))
as for me I am happy for the "Scan the folder for more segments only if the file references external segments" fix.

Well, bug #2 has been fixed in version 1.10.120.15. That's progress, I guess...

I have created a new topic to document all bugs in the splitter in a more organized way. Everyone please post detailed bug reports there.

The file (MatroskaSplitter v1.13.138.14) is identical with this one (http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?p=1624370#post1624370) from April, and its uninstaller may have a minor problem (http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?p=1633917#post1633917).

Haali shared his entire source code for splitter & muxer with JEEB awhile back, and even allowed release of binaries built from patched source code.

So maybe it's time for some feature requests... :)

1) a ZIP or 7z archive, for the people who don't like the installer

2) a standalone DS muxer

3) DON'T associate the splitter with file extensions (mk*, mp4, ts, whatever)

4) add HEVC support
