For video part, when video pin connects to coreavc 1.2, it will only show green screen. when video pin connects to cyberlink h.264/avc decoder, screens looks good, but will lost some frames for every 10-20 seconds. I checked the h.264 es, looks like there are short NAL start code(00 00 01 instead of 00 00 00 01). Is it possible reason?
I think with the two .avc testfiles from this (http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?p=969420#post969420) and this (http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?p=969867#post969867) post, could be the same problem. They play fine, but you can't mux them with Haali Matroska Muxer (nor mkvtoolnix).

Here is a sample of the opening credits of a bluray title.
When Haali Filter is connected to CoreAVC there are quite a few glitches. With Nero Filter and Powerdvd AVC Decoder, this plays fine. The rest of the movie plays mostly fine with Haali filter except in some scenes where the bit rate is very high (more than 35 bits)

Are you able to play muxed VC1 from Evo in mkv smooth ?
It plays only in "slowmotion"
i use :
1. EVO VC1 to mkv with gdsmux
2. ReMux the mkv with 23.976 Timecode
3. Latest Haali Splitter
It connetcs to WMVideoDecoder DMO (WM11)
No smooth Results for Playback .Wether with or without Audio.
But For Directshowsource its fine with correct Frames and Framerate, but it would be nixe to have a smooth VC1 MkV Playback

Yes, i made a Test with it too...no succces
The File starts playing fine and after a few second Framerate goes down and its in slowmotion and stutters a lot
I have a A64 X2 @4800 ,Cyberlink plays the 1080p VC1 perfect, the mkv with WMVideoDecoder are at around 90% Cpu load
-----------------
Also i noticed a Problem´with Haali Splitter from 7.3.07
When i mux a DD+ track with AC3 in a x264 and the AC3 is with default Track Flag @ yes, Haali cant play the 2nd DD+ Stream. It stops playing.
When DD+ is the Default Track (or the only) it works.
With the previous Beta with DD+ Support its not a Problem, so ive to use the beta
@Madshi

Yes, but CPU usage is quite high - with my Intel Core 2 Duo PC. It seems to me that the WMVideoDecoder is not very well optimized. CoreAVC behaves better for me. Maybe the CoreAVC guys will offer a VC-1 decoder in the future? :)

I dont belive my X2 4800 Dual Core /2GB Ram MAchine is to slow.
I use Cyberlinks VC1 Decoder "without" DXVa cause its not working on my old x800
Cyberlink PowerDVD HDDVD plays HDDVD with VC1 100% smooth with max 90% at highest Settings
Or i can play BlueRy HighBitrate 1080p H264 at highest Quality without DXVA smooth
So it must be Decoder /Splitter Related

I didn't mean that your PC is generally too slow for VC1 decoding. I meant to say that maybe the MS VC1 decoder is so non-optimized that it needs a PC that is even faster than yours - although a better optimized VC1 decoder will just fine on your PC. On my PC the MS decoder works smoothly, but the CPU usage is very high, as I said, so I can very well imagine that with a lesser PC there might be problems. I think my PC is quite a bit faster than yours in multimedia tasks. These Core 2 Duo CPUs rock!
But well, I've really no idea. Maybe I'm wrong and there's a specific problem with the filters you're using. But on my PC Haali + MS VC1 works fine.

No smooth Results for Playback .Wether with or without Audio.I have the exact same problem. It's not really slomotion but it's slower then it should be. Audio is fine first few seconds and then it starts to stutter. CPU is at 70% so don't think thats the problem. If I only mux the VC1 into MKV and play it back it also plays back slower then it should.
Please let me know if you find a solution for this.

This is my current working (playing very smooth) method:
1.Copy all the movie .EVO files into a unique file with a command like:
Copy /b D:\Serenity_HD-DVD\Feature_1.Evo+D:\Serenity_HD-DVD\Feature_2.Evo E:\Serenity.Evo
2.Install Matroska Splitter (07-03-2007)
3.Open GraphEdit (v. 9.04.78.0000 - Build: 041201)
4.Insert Filters - DirectShow Filters - Haali Media Splitter
5.Select "All Files (*.*)" and choose your .EVO (VC-1 codec) file (i.e. Serenity.Evo)
6.Insert Filters - DirectShow Filters - Haali Matroska Muxer
7.Choose your destination output file (best in a different HD drive) (i.e. Serenity.mkv)
8.Conect the Video pin of Serenity.Evo to the Input pin of Serenity.mkv and click the play icon on graphedit
9.After a while (10 to 15 minutes on my system) you will get the desired Serenity.mkv file at the same framerate like the HD-DVD, usually 23.976 fps
10.Install mkvmerge GUI v2.0.2
11.Create a .Txt file calling it "Video_to_25fps.Txt" and containing the next 2 lines:
# timecode format v1
assume 25.000
12.Open mkvmerge GUI v2.0.2 and "Add" the input file created in the above step 9 (Serenity.mkv)
13.Put the file (step 11) "Video_to_25fps.Txt" into the "Timecodes:" control
14.Choose the "Output filename" (best in a different HD drive) (i.e. Serenity_25fps.mkv) and press "Start muxing". It´s very important for smooth playback to make this step separately.
15.Demux your desired .AC3 track from the same movie from your DVD (25fps PAL)
15.Close and open again mkvmerge GUI v2.0.2
16.In "Input files" put the resulting file from step 14 (Serenity_25fps.mkv) and the .AC3 track file from step 15.
17.Choose the "Output filename" (best in a different HD drive) (i.e. Serenity_final.mkv) and press "Start muxing".
Good luck

Brand new version:
http://haali.cs.msu.ru/mkv/
28/03/2007
* New Features:
o The installer now shows a warning if you try to overwrite a newer version of the splitter.
o Added support for TRACKSETEX tags, they work much like TRACKSET ones below, with one addition: first word in the tag's value specifies the edition ID that is linked to this trackset. If that edition is activated from the UI, the trackset is also activated.
o Track numbers instead of track IDs can be specified in TRACKSET(EX) tags by using #num syntax.
o Added support for 'h264' fourcc to the muxer.
o The splitter will now register m2ts and evo extensions when MPEG TS/PS support is enabled.
* Fixed Items:
o Some code rearrangement in the renderer that allows it to work on Intel GMA950 graphics devices (onboard graphics commonly found in laptops). Also it might reduce tearing on some other chipsets (Intel driver doesn't like to be called from multiple threads, it's possible that there are more drivers like that).
o The splitter no longer removes extra H.264 SPS and PPS NALUs from the stream, since there are transport streams where SPS and PPS do change in the middle of a stream.
Sounds like I should retry muxing Equilibrium now. Thanks as always to Haali!

When i play mkv with AC3 "and" EAC3 Tracks, Haali stops playing when i select the EAC3 Audio.
Only whe the EAC3 is muxed with Default Track Flag "yes" in mkvmerge , i can change the Audio track without Problems.
With the beta Build 1.7.94.16 everthing works perefct.
Also the VC1 "slowmotion Problem" is still there

I've a feature suggestion:
Seeking in TS files works generally fine, but seeking in MKV files is much faster. So I'm wondering: Would it be possible (would it make sense) to add some kind of cache to the TS splitter? I guess what makes the seeking slow is probably the searching for key frames? If so, maybe the cache could remember all key frames it already found. Then seeking would be as quick as in MKV files for those sections of the video the cache already knows. Furthermore maybe a low priority background thread could scan through the whole video file and fill the cache in the background? Don't know if all this makes sense. It's just an idea I had...
Haali
2nd April 2007, 08:13
What makes seeking slow is a total absence of index from TS streams. If you need faster seeking, use a sensible indexed container (there are plenty of them).
Edit: What you suggest is actually building an index in memory. This will certainly help, but it's easier to simply use a container that already implements an index.

Sure, I'm using MKV for most movies. I just wanted to post the idea that an internal cache would probably improve TS seeking time. Anyway, it was just an idea and I can certainly live with the current seeking behaviour.

Sorry if I sounded harsh, I didn't intend that, and I'm not against ideas. But in this case, TS is not designed for random playback, and instead of adding workarounds to make up for that, I'd rather use something that is designed for seeking.

No worries mate... :)

Not trying to talk you into something. But let me post the two reasons why I'm interested in TS playback improvements:
(1) I'm thinking about buying an external media player hardware box sometime in the future, when I can find one with useable h.264 support. Unfortunately by far most of those media player boxes don't support MKV. Some may support MP4, but not with AC3/DTS tracks. So keeping the movies in TS format does make some sense to me. I'm kinda torn. Converting the movies to MKV makes sense. Leaving them in TS makes also sense.
(2) Blu-Ray streams are basically TS, as far as I've read. So for Blu-Ray playback, improvements in the TS splitter would improve Blu-Ray seeking, too. But I have to admit that I haven't tested Blu-Ray playback yet. Maybe there's an index in the Blu-Ray TS file or in another file on the Blu-Ray disc? I've no idea...
But as I said, I can very well live with the current seeking times. After all normally I watch a movie from start to end... :) So if you don't feel like adding TS seeking workarounds, that's just fine for me.

I have a question regarding MPEG PS (VOB) and subtitles. I found out that the splitter doesn't output subs at all. Would it be possible to add this feature? Then ffdshow or VobSub should be able to handle displaying of the subtitles.
This would allow to play DVDs without stupid menues, warnings and advertisments.

I'm sorry to post a few bug reports:
(1) With the latest Haali version (and the one before) the muxer seems to sometimes create MKV files which don't play fluidly. With some source videos it works, with others not. Here's one example:
ftp://mplayerhq.hu/MPlayer/samples/evob/DELSCENE1.EVO
The muxing with "Haali Media Splitter -> Haali Matroska Muxer" and also with "Haali Simple Media Splitter -> Haali Matroska Muxer" and with gdsmux all runs through. But the resulting MKV behaves strangely. If I use the Elecard, Cyberlink or the MPC built in MPEG2 decoder, the video plays very jerky, while the sound is alright. If I use the DScaler 5008 IVTC modded MPEG2 decoder, the video plays fine, though! However, if I demux the video and audio tracks and mux them with mkvtoolnix, the resulting MKV plays perfectly fine with all MPEG2 decoders. So evidently there's some kind of problem with the Haali Matroska Muxer.
(2) About half of the apple 1080p trailers can't be muxed correctly. Here's one example:
http://movies.apple.com/movies/wb/harry_potter_goblet/harry_potter_goblet-tlr2_h1080p.mov
Muxing with gdsmux or with the "Haali Simple Media Splitter -> Haali Matroska Muxer" stalls at about 22% (and never completes, it has to be manually aborted). Muxing with "Haali Media Splitter -> Haali Matroska Muxer" runs through and creates a file which seems to have a good file size. However, if I play the file with MPC, MPC reports a video run time of 84 hours and the MKV doesn't play correctly (only the first frame is shown).
(3) Muxing the Departed Trailer doesn't work at all with any of the Haali muxing methods. It always stalls or doesn't even start.
ftp://mplayerhq.hu/MPlayer/samples/evob/Departed%20Trailer.EVO
(4) Muxing the Equilibrium HD-DVD EVO files (H.264) doesn't work, either. I think it's probably the same problem as (3).
(5) This is probably not a bug, but a feature wish: The "Haali Media Splitter" automatically links EVO/VOB files, which is VERY nice. However, the "Haali Simple Media Splitter" doesn't do that. So if I want to mux a movie to MKV, I have to choose between the "Haali Media Splitter" which will allow me to mux without joining the EVO/VOB files before but which will only allow one audio track to be muxed, or I can use the "Haali Simple Media Splitter" which allows me to mux all audio tracks but which needs the EVO/VOB files to be joined before muxing. Would it be possible to add automatic linking to the "Haali Simple Media Splitter", at least as an option? That would be great!
Sorry for so many bug reports! I'm not sure whether (3) and (4) are even supposed to work yet. But since the release notes say: "Added support for 'h264' fourcc to the muxer" I thought I'd report these two problems.
madshi
8th April 2007, 19:16
(6) With some (many) DVDs the last VOB file is interpreted by the Haali Media Splitter to run much too long. As a result the whole movie run length is often 3 hours instead of 1.5 or something like that. Here's a 7MB test sample, which is only a few seconds long (and VLC plays it correctly), but Haali Media Splitter reports that this VOB is almost 2 hours long:
http://madshi.net/haali.vob
It's usually always the last VOB file which makes problems. The other VOBs seem to be interpreted correctly, as far as I can say.

@Haali, I've a question:
I've played with demuxing E-AC3 tracks from my HD-DVD discs. I've compared the following methods:
(1) "Feature_1.evo -> Haali Media Splitter -> Dump"
(2) "Feature_1.evo -> Haali Simple Media Splitter -> Dump" joined with "Feature_2.evo -> Haali Simple Media Splitter -> Dump"
(3) "Feature_1.evo -> EvoDemux Tool" joined with "Feature_2.evo -> EvoDemux Tool"
(4) "CombinedFeatureByEvoDemux.evo -> Haali Simple Media Splitter -> Dump"
With "Serenity" all 4 methods give me the same final audio file. So far so good. But with "The Fugitive" I'm getting crazy results. (1) gives me a perfect file. (2) and (3) give me an audio file which has additional 300ms audio content at the split point between the two EVO files. Basically sync is lost at the split point. If I cut 300ms at the split point, the result is good again. (4) gives me an audio file for the 2nd EVO file, only.
Do you have any idea why this could happen? Usually I wouldn't bother you with such questions. I'm just trying to find a good way to demux all audio tracks - and you seem to have the key for that, because the Haali Media Splitter (and only the "non-simple" one) seems to be the only way to get a perfect demuxed E-AC3 file from "The Fugitive".
I was always relying on EvoDemux to demux the audio tracks, but it fails here. So I'm kinda worried, especially how I'll be able to demux TrueHD and DTS HD Master Audio tracks etc...
Thanks for any thoughts you can share on this!
P.S: Would it be possible that the two EVOs overlap a bit? And maybe the Haali Media Splitter with its automatic EVO linking logic is able to work around this problem? Just a guess...
Haali
18th April 2007, 11:55
Maybe they overlap indeed, but you need to look at frame timestamps at start of files to make sure.

If they overlapped, would the automatic EVO linking feature of the "Haali Media Splitter" automatically skip the overlapping part?

I have the same issue with a couple of EVO files. I have observed that sometime the sync issue is solved when the two parts are merged using mkvmerge.
It would be nice to find a solution to this issue. However what would be even better if the Haali Simple Media filter could behave like the classic Haali filter and merge files parts (EVO or MKV) like suggested by Madshi. This would save time, allow to choose easily audio tracks and would enable to mux multiple audio tracks at the same time in one go and of course avoid this issue described above.

Yeah, but I'd also like to find out what's happening. Because the Haali filters don't support TrueHD (yet). So I want to know whether I can trust EvoDemux' demuxed audio tracks or not.

I've just installed the last version of the Haali Splitter, and now, I cannot read the subtitles embedded in an mkv file while it used to work with the old matroska splitter. These are mostly subrip (srt) or vobsub.
The pb do not seem to come from the dvobsub, since the srt files apart an avi are launched properly with the haali filter.
But for mkv, it does not work anymore. I try with "autoload VSFilter" enabled or disabled without differences.
When I open my mkv in Graphedit, Haali read the audio and video streams but not the subtitles streams: "some of the streams are in a unsupported format".
What is missing?
EDIT: I've un installed Haali splitter and the CCCP (Comb. Codec Pack) and re install the last CCCP. Now, the subtitles (both srt and vobsub) are played well under MPC, but I've got an exception when opening a mkv with TCMP. Hum...
EDIT2: I've disabled the "autoload VSFilter" in Haali, and now, my mkv are also played well under TMCP.
So my pb has been solved, without to understand what was wrong!

@Haali: is it possible to implement that your "splitter reports keyframes to the application" ? It can be used in (eg.) MPC with the shift + arrows (go to keyframe). It's working with the built-in mkv/mp4/avi splitters (not with mpg/wmv).
It's very handy when you syncing some subitles in MPC (and other times as well). This is the only reason why I still use the built-in splitters.
Thanks

I have a A64 X2 @4800 ,Cyberlink plays the 1080p VC1 perfect, the mkv with WMVideoDecoder are at around 90% Cpu load
interesting. I have the exact same problem on an AMD X2 as well. I can't get above 27 FPS on 29.97 x264.mkv encodes. I use the haali splitter with coreavc and it never goes above 46% total cpu load (splitter around 28% and 2 threads of coreavc around 10% each)
Now in VLC i can get it easy. (and then some ) CPU load is 58% and it plays super smooth. deblocking is on in each and in fact VLC i have some post processing on that is not in the in the directshow players (i mainly use mpc)

As always, my thanks go to Haali!
After some first tests it seems that the bug (1) of the bugs I reported (see previous page) was fully fixed. The other 5 problems I reported don't seem to be fixed yet.

Darn I was so hoping it fixed the slow down haali is doing but it did not. Same problem. 720p x264 encode at 4500 bit rate just can not go above 27 FPS and only use about 46% CPU (28 haali and just under 10 for each of the 2 threads in coreavc) so it lags and audio is way out of sync. NO frames are dropped either.
VLC plays it perfectly at 58% CPU usage.
I tested Elecard's decoder/splitter also and it plays it fine as well at 61% CPU
