"the Windows Media player on the 64 bit" OS is in fact a 32 bit application, or so someone said in the WMP11 announcement thread on this forum.

So the WMP11 is 32 and the MCE is 64 bit? I have to run this by the developers of MCE.. It would explain the problems.

After re-installing MatroskaPropv2.8.exe, thumbnails are back again. at least for me, haali+prop do work, if first I install Haali's then Prop

And maybe Haali splitter is not responsible for freezing; even after uninstalling Haali's splitter, Explorer freezes when a folder with MKVs is thumbnail'ed

all in all. those thumbnails-related pbs are only cosmetic and not really important.

I found a recent problem involving audio switching with Haali. I use the MKV container with X264 video, AC3 audio and VobSub graphic subtitles. I have two audios, and one of the audios I down mixed from the 6ch audio to 2ch. After I mux all the items, and open in any player, if I switch from the audio I down mixed, to the second audio stream (not down mixed, but is 2ch) and back to the first audio stream it plays as if its forcing everything into the left channel. Its odd, i've never heard it before. It's as if it was playing back 6ch audio, and pushing everything to the left channel except for a rear right channel, which plays softly on the right. So far it seems its only with the audio that I made, using besweet. Thing is, if I enable MPC's matroska splitter, it does not have any problems at all.... so I know it's haali's fault. Also the audios play fine separatly, and when the video is first played its fine, only after switching to stream 2 then back does it mess up! Any help appreciated.... and yes I have re-encoded the audio twice already using different downmix methods. All is the same.

Edit:
Interesting enough, I tried playing in VLC, and I get the opposite effect. The audio plays incorrectly first, but when switching to stream 2 and back the audio sounds fine...... this is really bugging me now.

And what do you use to decode those ac3 streams ? As I remember MPC's built-in splitter rebuilds the graph when switching audio tracks while Haali's doesn't. Some decoders don't adapt to this.

dude051

I've tried both AC3Filter and FFDShow's AC3 decoder. Both react the same.

I actually made a mistake in my previous post: Gabest's mkv splitter builds graphs for all the audio streams upon opening the file, it doesn't rebuild the audio render graph when switching audio tracks.

Since you are experiencing problem with that file in all players, I'm ready to blame it.

Hoewever, do you realise it's not helping anyone if you just come and say "hey ! I made a file and it won't work with Haali's splitter !" How about a sample of the file so others would have a chance to see what's wrong ?

I'll put a sample up later tonight. Although, the file is very generic, i've created it using more than one source and the result is the same. As I said, using besweet to downmix 6ch AC3 audio to 2ch AC3 audio. So far various downmix routines prove the same thing. I've used LFE - LR, Surround - LR, drop surround and encode as direct stereo 2/0, ect, seems the same. I will though get a sample later up tonight.

Yesterday I was advised to delete HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\.mkv and re-install Haali's splitter to enable its shell ext. and thumbnails, and it did work! If anyone experienced the same mess it's worth trying.
Thanks again, Haali :)

But did you notice this? it doesn't like WideChar (Unicode). If the text (such as the title) in the property is not in your default non-Unicode language, you'll get a lot of ????????

Haali, the "media" tab in the property is the one that is added as your shell extension? If so, it's now supporting Unicode! Thank you very much :)

Previously, it didn't support non-ascii, even if it's from the system's current code page.
Now I can see even Chinese or Japanese correctly. The info displayed may be still simpler compared with MatroskaPropv2.8, but the development of MatroskaProp seems to have been stopped, so...
I'm happy for now anyway because it shows Unicode characters :)

Haali

I have a .ts file (AVC1 + DTS + AC3), I can play it in mpc(rev611-3) via haali media splitter(1.6.400.11) + coreavc video decoder + AC3 filter(1.11) , AC3 audio(PID 37) is normal, the problem is after I switched from PID 37 to PID 36(DTS audio),there is no audio at all.Gabest mpeg splitter(1, 0, 0, 4) works well with that file.
here (http://www.mytempdir.com/1139877)( 9.53 MB) is that .ts file.
OS: XP SP2.

I just saw the Media Shell tab in mkv properties, it's excellent ! If only we could change Aspect ratio of the file like in MatroskaProp ^^
Could we have subtitles info too ? :)
Or could we right click on the line and choose to copy it in clipboard ? ^^

Requests:

In the new Media tab, it would be great if Video tracks listed their framerate (fps), as Matroskaprop does.

Also in the Media tab, Audio tracks should list the number of channels (also as Matroskaprop does).

Even better, a configurator allowing to select which property items are visible by default on the Media tab.

The thumbnail feature is neat, especially because you can set an offset so it doesn't generate the preview from the first frame. No more pages of black but a really funky amount of different looking pictures here. Also neat that you can use it with some copying of registry key for MP4/MKV/OGM and AVI. However with ZoomPlayer it doesn't work with simply enabling it in the options as ZoomPlayer creates special keys in the registry and doesn't use the default MatroskaVideo key in HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT. I copied the shellex parts to ZPMP4File, ZPOGMFile, ZPAVIFile and ZPMKVFile and it works great so far, thanks for making my thumbnails look more useful. Would be nice if you could set the regkey used for enabling at least as a hidden option somewhere.

Can you give me a more easy description of this? Iīm not so used to regedit. :)

@ Haali

Wouldnīt it be easier to make the shell extension also work for mp4? :)

During my tests, there were two things that did not work correctly - the first one especially is very annoying for me, but might eventually be well known:

1) I made H.264-TS recordings with several audio streams from DVB-S2. Sometimes, they played correctly, sometimes I just get a grey screen. Yesterday I seem to have found out the reason: I configured in the recording software that I want every TS file to be split after a size of around 4400 MByte for DVD archiving. When I played the first file of a e.g. 4-part set, it was played correctly. But when I put all parts together (e.g. copy /b 1.ts+2.ts... all.ts) and try to play this file with e.g. 18 GByte, I get this grey screen. I still havenīt tested the exact limit where this bug occurs, but I think you might know exactly the size of the pointers etc. you use :) Or do you see any other reason for this behaviour?
How would I have to rename the recordings to use the concatenation feature of the Matroska filter?

2) I had some compatiblity problems with MatroskaSplitter installed. If I remember correctly, WinDVD even crashed on every start of a playback. And quite weird, even PowerDVD seemes to use Matroska when playing back TS files although it is able to open TS files itself. Is there any way to temporarily disable Matroska? Lowering the Merit with the Radlight filter manager unfortunately did not seem not to help (or I lowered the Merit of the wrong filter :)).

Thanks in advance

Perhaps a blacklist option would be a solution. For example, ffdshow has the ability to blacklist applications. That will prevent the ffdshow filter from being used by those applications.

JK1974

@clsid: This is exactly the function that I would like to see in the Haali splitter ;)

Recently I found that after installing Haali's splitter, VSFilter doesn't work with subs in a language that is not ANSI_CHARSET, such as Chinese or Russian.

Gabest's splitter + VSFilter = works fine with those languages, so I suppose VSFilter is OK.

Haali's splitter + MPC's internal sub renderer = works fine too.

The problem is only for Haali's + VSFilter combination.

Maybe is this just that my system is messed up after installing and re-installing many things for testing?
I didn't notice this problem for a long (if it was there for a long time) as I almost always use MPC's internal sub renderer...

EDIT:
This problem occurs only on MPC. Another player, like WMP and VSFilter mix well.

EDIT2:
This problem occurs only when MPC's internal sub renderer is available, as in VMR9 Renderless. Otherwise, MPC and VSFilter mix well with Haali's filter.

EDIT3:
under this combination EASTEUROPE_CHARSET is ok too. not only ANSI_CHARSET.

Hello Haali,

I have a coulple of questions.

I noticed that after installing Matrosska Media Saplitter (http://haali.cs.msu.ru/mkv/) with AVI support, standard File Source stopped to connect with MS AVI Splitter.

In this case File Source's out pin media subtype is
Major Type: Stream - Sub Type: {49952F4C-3EDC-4A9B-8906-1DE02A3D4BC2} - Format: GUID_NULL

And without Haali splitter installed it is:
Major Type: Stream - Sub Type: Avi - Format: GUID_NULL

Could you please comment such a behaviour?

Haali
18th January 2007, 01:03
This is a builtin behaviour of File Source. It searches the registry for supported signatures and uses the filter clsid as subtype. I can do nothing about it, that's just how File Source works.

Thanks for the response.
In fact you are right. MS File source seems to have such ambiguous behaveour.

Nevertheless in the registry your subtype is above AVI subtype
{49952F4C-3EDC-4A9B-8906-1DE02A3D4BC2} (haali)
{E436EB88-524F-11CE-9F53-0020AF0BA770} (MEDIASUBTYPE_AVI)

And this seems to be the reason why MS File Source do not use ith own mediatype.

In fact, I'm sure very many people has headache becouse of this.
For example if it is installed your Haali Splitter with AVI support do you think Windows Media Player will be apble to playback AVI DV type 1?

Another question is wether your filter allows swithing off AVI support by means of any programming interface?

Haali
18th January 2007, 23:16
There is no such API, and AVI support is turned off by default because of the problems like that.

I'm writing myself a little DirectShow Player for my home theatre system, and the Haali Splitter is clearly the tool for the job of sourcing/splitting my HDTV ts files. I'd like to be able to enumerate and choose the video/audio streams (what's called Service on the tray icon popup menu) programmatically, since I'm controlling things with a remote instead of the mouse. Is there an API that the Haali Splitter supports that allows this?

I see that ZoomPlayer can do this, but perhaps they're just cheating and deconstructing the menu?
